Legacy Heroes

It was late and Kayla was enjoying the evening atmosphere at the lake. She, Zari and Mon had just helped with an attack in the Gulf of Mexico, having followed Barry's orders, but this one had been a hard one – Texas could have been dangerously flooded if the heroes hadn't been so close as it were. Mon had gone to bed early, while Zari was in the Lake House's sauna.

Kayla sighed to herself, wondering what these Atlantis attacks meant and wondering if she should check on Mon when a familiar portal opened next to her. She groaned.

"Hello Junior," Kayla stated, wearily.

"How do you know it's me and not one of my counterparts?" Cisco asked, the portal closing behind him.

"Since when is it anyone but you?" Kayla smirked, sitting up to look at Cisco.

"Well… true," Cisco muttered.

"Well then, what do you want this time, Ramon?" Kayla asked, frowning at the man.

"A new world," Cisco stated, Kayla raising a curious eyebrow at him. "It was part of a cluster of Earths before Crisis but has moved out to the wider multiverse since. Makes me think it's important in some way, so I want to explore it."

"Go ahead," Kayla sighed, sitting back on the deck chair.

"Oh, come on, you know I don't do these trips without you now," Cisco implored.

"True," Kayla mused. "So, it's drifted from its original place in the multiverse?"

"Yeah," Cisco smirked, knowing he'd got her interest. "It's not the only one. Canary Earth is no longer in the middle of the destruction. I have checked that out with my counterpart there and it seems like it just moved away from dead worlds, but this is different. If you're free…?"

"Yeah," Kayla paused; she wouldn't mind if Mon would join them, as he had been fun with their Disney adventure, but she knew he was asleep. "Sure, I'm free," Kayla smiled. "But this world needs a better name than Drifter Earth."

"Drifter Earth?" Cisco asked as Kayla now stood up.

"The universe is drifting from its previous place – Drifter Earth," Kayla explained.

"Let's… let's not leave you to name worlds," Cisco stated, looking disgusted at the name.

"Oy!" Kayla snapped, slapping Cisco slightly in the arm.

"Anyway…" Cisco stated, rubbing his arm now as he opened a new portal. "To not-Drifter Earth."

-Hitchhikers Guide-

The portal opened in a corridor, Cisco and Kayla stepping through before pausing.

"Lockers… windowed doors… Junior, did you take us to a school?" Kayla asked as the portal snapped closed behind them. It was dark out now, the only light in the corridor coming from the moon outside shining into the corridor through the external windows. She noticed a few lockers had been dented and there was paint on the floor.

"Not a very good school," Cisco muttered as he moved forward, to a door that was ajar. "They didn't even clean up their art classroom." Kayla followed, seeing the room covered in paint.

"Something isn't right here," Kayla muttered, looking around the room from the doorway.

"You're telling me. I mean, a High School at night – one of the creepiest places on Earth," Cisco stated. "This is almost my worst nightmare..."

"You never went to Midvale," Kayla chuckled, exiting the room. "Why exactly–?" but she didn't finish her sentence as a golden blast hit into her, sending her flying down the corridor. She was quick to react though as she summoned her costume, but before she could get up, a fist met her face and her attacker shouted out in pain, obviously human as her fist met the Kryptonian skin.

"Kayla!" Cisco shouted as Kayla jumped up to defend herself from her attacker, seeing Cisco in a fight with a man in a cape and a woman in what looked like a cat outfit. The woman who had attacked her had recoiled now and Kayla saw the blue outfit and staff.

"Stargirl…?" Kayla asked, knowing of Courtney Whitmore, the time-displaced woman from the 1940s. Not only did she have one on her world, but she had also heard of the one from New Justice and recently met the one in Old Justice, even if everything with Bruce hadn't let her interact with the woman. This woman didn't look like the Courtney she remembered thought – in fact, she didn't look like a adult woman at all. She was a girl – a teenager, in fact.

"What exactly are you?!" Stargirl asked, nursing her hand, her Cosmic Staff held now in her good hand as Kayla used quick x-ray vision to see that the girl had broken her fingers when she hit her.

"I'm Supergirl – at least, a Supergirl," Kayla stated, "and you've broken your hand."

"I figured," Stargirl grimaced. "Unless this is an Eclipso thing?"

"There's no eclipse," Kayla frowned, seeing the moon out of the nearby window, and then looking to Cisco, who seemed to have the best of the two people he was fighting. "And I think you should call off your friends' attacks," she added.

"Courtney," a dark girl with green goggles came running up to her. "She's a Kryptonian!"

"That explains a lot," Stargirl, who seemed to also be called Courtney here, stated to the dark girl, calling off her friends at this.

"What exactly is going on here?" Cisco called out as the man in the cape and the woman in the cat outfit backed off, and Kayla noticed they too were teenagers like this new Courtney.

"And what is this eclipse thing you were on about?" Kayla added before moaning as she took in their faces. "Damn, you're all kids!"

"We're superheroes," the boy in the cape countered.

"You can't be more than sixteen," Kayla smirked as Courtney nursed her broken hand. "Which brings me to question, how do you know about Kryptonians?"

"My sisters are Kryptonian," Courtney muttered as Cisco moved over to Kayla now, looking over the teenager.

"And she would have bested you if she wasn't grounded," the girl in the cat outfit muttered.

"There's so many things wrong with that sentence," Kayla pointed out, not afraid of a teenage Kryptonian. "But I think you better get to a hospital, Stargirl – I mean that hand…"

"My parents can help," the dark girl pointed out. "They're doctors."

"Urgh, so this fight is over?" The boy in the cape asked.

"If you can call it a fight," Cisco pointed out. He crossed his arms over his chest, seeming to be annoyed by these teenaged heroes.

"Look, we're friendly – we literally only just arrived," Kayla sighed, getting frustrated with the teenage attitudes, "let's take Courtney to this medical mom and get her hand sorted…"

"I'll be fine," Courtney dismissed, although obviously in pain as her Cosmic Staff hummed sadly next to her, glowing mutely.

"You aren't. I can see the broken bones," Kayla pointed out, shaking her head at the girl. "Trust me."

-Hitchhiker Guide-

Cisco, Kayla, the caped boy, and the cat-girl were sat outside the local hospital now – Kayla and Cisco had deduced that they had arrived in a small mid-west town called Blue Valley; the caped boy was called Rick, while the cat-girl was Yolanda, and the girl with the goggles was Beth.

"Someone explain to me why teenagers are being superheroes?" Cisco asked as Kayla watched the hospital building, seeing Courtney having her hand plastered up by Beth's mom and feeling a little bit sorry for the girl – it was her face in which Courtney had broken her hand on, after all.

"We're superheroes because the original Justice Society are gone," Yolanda stated, she had taken her cat mask off to reveal a young Mexican-looking girl, "and Courtney needed more than just herself and her sister to take on the Injustice Society."

"Injustice Society, huh?" Cisco stated, the name familiar. "Why is that name familiar?"

"You're thinking of the Injustice Alliance from New Justice," Kayla pointed out to Cisco, who snapped his fingers and pointed at Kayla in recognition of the name.

"That's it. The alliance of super villains led by that Killer Frost who was not Crystal or Caitlin Snow," Cisco said, having spied a bit on that event.

"Sounds similar, but there was no Killer Frost," Rick stated. "Ours had Icicle, Sportsmaster, Brainwave, Dragon King…"

"Nope, those names are not familiar," Cisco mumbled shaking his head.

"So, kids went up against an anti-hero league?" Kayla summarized, cutting off Rick and stopping Cisco from trying to compare this Injustice Society and the Injustice Alliance from New Justice.

"Well, we did win!" Rick countered. Unlike Yolanda, he hadn't taken off his mask, but Kayla could see his face anyway, thanks to her x-ray vision.

"Regardless…" Cisco mused.

"What exactly is your story anyway?" Yolanda asked the pair.

"Multiverse," Cisco spoke before Kayla could.

"Like that old show, Sliders?" Rick asked, to a look from Yolanda. "What? My uncle used to watch it religiously before he became an asshole."

"There was a time before he was an ass?" Yolanda chuckled, which got a smile from the boy.

"Yes though, we're like Sliders," Cisco stated. "But unlike the show, we can easily get home."

"Are you related to Kara and Zia?" Yolanda now asked.

"How do you know my sisters?" Kayla asked, still getting used to having a multiverse sister called Zia.

"They're the sisters Courtney mentioned…" Yolana added, sharing a look with Rick now.

"Okay, that needs more explanation," Kayla stated, looking shocked to the two, but before anyone could, Courtney and Beth came out of the building – Courtney had hidden her Staff in a janitor's closet, so had collected it with her unbroken hand since. She had also put on a shirt to make her costume not as obvious.

"This is going to be a problem with Eclipso," Courtney stated to her friends, raising her broken hand.

"What is Eclipso?" Cisco asked now.

"Something bad," Courtney recounted.

"Court, she says she's related to Kara and Zia," Yolanda quickly pointed out to Courtney.

"Considering she's Kryptonian… you two are friendly, right?" Courtney now asked Kayla and Cisco.

"Yes," Kayla said, giving Cisco a warning look not to explain the multiverse right now.

"Then we need to talk. Come on, we'll go to mine," Courtney said. "Rick, Yolanda, Beth?" She looked to her friends.

"Mom and dad are busy, they won't know I'm home late," Beth shrugged, looking back to the hospital building where her parents were.

"My uncle doesn't care," Rick shrugged.

"My parents hate me, so it's not like it matters," Yolanda sighed, causing Kayla to frown at this one.

"Alright, home then. Follow us, you two." Courtney smirked.

"Do you even have hero names…?" Cisco asked. "Cos you know, going by your actual names isn't exactly how it should work."

"I know," Courtney sighed, but smirked too as they headed off.

-Hitchhikers Guide-

The group reached a large, impressive, house. The lights were off, meaning that the occupants were obviously in bed or out. Beth used Courtney's key to open the front door for her, Courtney putting an unbroken finger to her lips for them to be quiet as they snuck into the house.

A cute little bulldog met them as the door closed, it sniffed at Kayla's feet as she bent down to pet it, but stopped when someone else appeared, coming down the stairs – and she almost freaked Kayla out.

No older than sixteen, her blonde hair slightly darker than the Kara's that Kayla knew, this was a teenaged Kara or Kayla Zor-El. She was in pyjamas but crossed her arms at seeing the group, most of whom were in their superhero outfits already. Kayla had met a younger Kara in the form of Karen on Karry, but she was now in her early 20s and looked closer to Kara than an actual teenager.

"Key Kara," Courtney muttered, confirming to Kayla who this younger double was.

"You brought home strays?" the younger Kara chuckled, directing her attention to Courtney before gasping. "Your hand!"

"Broke it on her," Courtney muttered back, indicating to Kayla, causing Kara to frown.

"You look familiar," Kara stated.

"Where's mom and Pat?" Courtney asked before Kayla could answer, shooing the dog away now.

"Barbra's in bed with a headache, dad's gone to the garage. Zia's asleep," Kara stated.

"Let's head to the basement," Courtney decided. "Don't want to wake mom up."

"Good idea," Kara smirked, looking at Kayla as she now led the way to a door that had a staircase downward. No one said anything until Courtney, bringing up the rear, closed the door behind them. The room was vast and looked like it was ready to be converted into a basement apartment, which wouldn't have been a bad idea for this place, but Kayla wasn't paying too much attention as she sat on one of the chairs while the others took position; Courtney put her Staff into a long, thin, box, telling it to sleep. It was kind of cute how Courtney treated the Staff.

"Okay, as we told Yolanda and Rick, we're from the multiverse," Kayla decided to take the lead, sharing a look with Cisco to confirm they could tell these kids this information. "He's Cisco Ramon, his power is to make portals to places and other worlds…"

"Cool!" Beth stated eyes wide now; her goggles were on her forehead now. "My goggles are giving me information about multiverse theories. It's really interesting and the goggles do say they are vibrating at a different frequency than we are."

"Frequency?" Courtney asked.

"The Earths are separated by different frequencies; everyone that exists on the Earths are vibrating at the frequency of their home world," Cisco explained.

"So, you're not from this world?" Kara had to ask.

"We're not," Cisco confirmed as Beth gave a big grin at this.

"Anyway, I'm Kryptonian and I go by Supergirl, Powergirl or Power Girl depending on the world," she didn't really have a superhero mantle anymore, as just went with the flow depending on the world she was on; when she covered for Mutant Kara, she went by Lady Power.

"Multiverse…" the young Kara breathed. "You're my sister, aren't you?"

"I am. But not your older one – your twin sister. It seems you must have been in the Phantom Zone longer than most other worlds," Kayla mused, but Kara shivered at that.

"Kara and Zia arrived on Earth a few years ago," Courtney explained. "This was before mom and Pat met, but Superman couldn't help raise them so Pat stepped in."

"What's happened to your Clark?" Kayla asked, instantly looking to Kara now.

"The Injustice Society," the group of teenagers, apart from Kara, chorused. Kayla raised her eyebrow as Cisco watched on, happy to let Kayla lead.

"Ten years ago, the Injustice Society lead an attack against the Justice Society; my dad was killed, along with Wildcat, Green Lantern, and Johnny Thunder. The Flash disappeared after, while Rick's parents, the original Hourman, was killed soon after. Superman, though, they poisoned with Kryptonite…" Courtney stated, looking to Kara now as Kayla moaned.

"He's alive," Kara stated, hurriedly, "but severely disabled. He couldn't raise me or Zee; he can barely take care of himself. Lois now has to take care of him and their kids. Adding me and Zee would be too much for her. He and Pat, my foster father, were friends, and so he brought Zee and me to Pat to raise."

"Instant family," Cisco chuckled, getting that 'Zee' was Kara's nickname for Zia.

"Pat has no family of his own. I mean he has a son somewhere, but the mom doesn't want Pat to know him, Rao knows why," Kara sighed. "But he's a great father. Kind, caring…"

"Except for the fact he kept everyone's costumes hidden," Courtney pointed out.

"Didn't stop you from finding them though, did it?" Kara pointed out, to a smirk from Courtney.

"So, Superman? He's…?" Kayla wanted to know.

"He's out of the game as Superman, which is why I've stepped in," Kara confirmed. "Zee wants in, but she's only thirteen so there's no way either of us are letting her do that."

"And your parents are okay with this?" Cisco now voiced.

"Mom was a little iffy," Courtney sighed. "I mean, Starman was my dad, but he got killed so she's worried – it's understandable."

"Pat was the same, but I mean I'm a super powerful alien so there's not much he can do," Kara chuckled, "we reached a stalemate when we decided to both make sure Zee stayed out, though."

"Fair," Kayla nodded at this.

"What about your parents?" Cisco asked the others. They had mentioned it earlier, but it would be nice to know more.

"Well, my parents were killed," Rick stated. He had finally taken his mask off, but the outfit remained on. "My dad was the original Hourman, but I've been living with my ass of an uncle since – he doesn't care what I do, just as long as I don't get in his way." Yolanda put a hand on Rick's shoulder at this, she obviously cared about him.

"Mine are always busy with work," Beth now voiced. "Well, it's that or getting a divorce – I found divorce paperwork a few weeks back, but I haven't asked them about it yet. To be honest, I'm kind of scared to. Then again, I barely see them these days, they don't know I'm out with the others, although they know these are my friends…"

"Beth," Courtney stated with a chuckle. "You can breathe."

"Sorry, I babble," Beth stated, blushing a little, but Kayla chuckled regardless.

"I made one mistake and my parents now hate me forever," Yolana voiced, Kayla and Cisco looking to her in shock. "They're Catholic and their faith… I mean, it was bad but…"

"But it's water under the bridge," Courtney put her arm around Yolanda's shoulder now, caringly.

"They don't see it that way," Yolanda stated. "They stopped caring about me since."

"Sounds like you need better parents," Kayla voiced, darkly.

"I want her to move in with us," Courtney spoke up.

"We don't exactly have a spare bedroom," Kara pointed out.

"We can get another bed in my room easily, I mean I'd love to roomie with you, Yolanda," Courtney smiled as she said this, but Yolanda only returned a weak smile.

"What was this eclipse thing you mentioned earlier, though?" Kayla now asked, the atmosphere in the room instantly changing at the mention. "You said it was bad…?"

"Eclipso," Courtney voiced. "He's… pure evil. A demon. We don't know much about him, but that mess in the school was him – he got into our heads, made us see our fears…"

"So, you punched some lockers and threw paint?" Cisco asked, to receive a glare from Kayla. "Sorry," he added.

"He made our art teacher go insane," Yolanda pointed out, deadpan.

"Oh," Cisco backtracked.

"Sorry, we've never heard of an Eclipso," Kayla stated, "otherwise we could help."

"It's okay," Courtney said, shaking her head. "We'll get this figured out."

"I've got to ask," Kara stated, causing Kayla and Cisco to look at her, "aside from finding out our history and not offering help over a demon, why are you here?"

"We explore other worlds," Cisco spoke up at this.

"We help if we're needed," Kayla added.

"But mostly we map the multiverse of all known worlds, adding them to our list and opening alternative routes of help by allowing worlds to access each other for help against bad guys," Cisco finalized, to a raised eyebrow from Courtney.

"You can offer that to us?" Courtney asked, a new light in her eyes.

"Of co–" Cisco began, but Kayla cut him off.

"No," Kayla stated, to a frown from Cisco. "You're all too young. Who's the leader here, anyway?" Both Courtney and Kara raised their hands, looked at one another, then laughed.

"What does it matter, though?" Kara asked. "We should get help."

"It does matter," Kayla sighed. "Look, it's not unusual for teens connected to current or former heroes to get into the hero game young, but it's usually under the watchful eyes of the older heroes," Kayla explained, thinking of Karry Universe's Young Justice which had just been disbanded – even New Justice Rae had Clark looking out for her when she had just started. "This is new territory and there are certain multiverse rules that comes about when helping each other. We have refused to give systems to worlds before because they are too different. You guys are closer than the other worlds, but you need to evolve a bit more on your own before the multiverse can be opened to you."

"Oh," Courtney looked down at this, but Beth seemed excited.

"What would you suggest?" Beth asked.

"You need proper leadership in a team. I mean, I've led several Justice Leagues-slash-Society," three at least, albeit co-leading with a Barry, but she kept this to herself, "and leadership is important. You need a head for the body, so to speak. And you need maturity. You did go in all guns blazing earlier, after all," she glanced at Courtney who didn't quite meet her eyes. "Plus, you don't even have a system."

"A system?" Courtney asked, folding her arms.

"Computers, coms to one another, a tech person," Cisco stated, catching up with what Kayla meant. "I mean, do you even have a base of operation?"

"Urm… dad's garage," Kara said before Courtney could.

"A garage? That's new," Cisco muttered.

"Yeah, you have nothing," Kayla sighed, shaking her head.

"But my goggles…" Beth started.

"Are just that: goggles," Kayla countered, "Even if they are advanced, you need something more… permanent to be on the system. Besides, you're only kids!"

"We're the kids of heroes," Rick defended at this.

"Doesn't rule out the fact that you're kids, related to old heroes or not," Kayla stated. "Besides, is this it? Is this your… what, Justice Society?" She went by a guess, considering the alternative was the Injustice Society, after all.

"Yes," Courtney stated, eyes narrowing now.

"I'm sorry but you need more numbers – and adults," Kayla continued, Cisco now definitely allowing her to take the lead, knowing Kayla wasn't making a good impression on these teenagers anymore.

"Pat helps and mom is in on it," Courtney countered.

"Still, you need adults on the team – or at least people a bit older," Kayla said. "The Flash you mentioned earlier. Jay Garrick?" Courtney nodded her head and Kayla gave a small smile. Jay made sense for the former Justice Society. "Look to see if he has a daughter or nephew – or son or niece," she knew Roe and Bailey were less common than Rae and Barry, but still existed

"A Flash could be useful," Kara nodded.

"We've done well so far!" Rick pointed out, defensive, clearly not taking the advice as well as Kara.

"Even so," Kayla said reasonable. "Besides, Courtney needs that hand to heal. I'm sorry about that, by the way."

"Oh, that's… well, that was my fault for attacking you," Courtney spoke now, looking bemused now as Kara sighed in realization as to what precisely happened to her step-sister's hand.

"Look, we'll be happy to add you to our multiverse system eventually, but not yet," Cisco was the one to speak now, calm.

"Exactly," Kayla said. "You're not ready yet but keep it up and you will be."

"Fine. So, we need numbers and adults," Courtney nodded.

"We can figure that one out," Kara added, sharing a look with Courtney.

"I am already looking into Jay Garrick's family. Do you exist on this world?" Beth suddenly voiced to Cisco, pointing to her goggles back over her eyes.

"Not a clue," Cisco shrugged. "It'd be fun to find out."

"Useful too, if you can truly go from place to place and world to world," Rick stated, thoughtfully.

"Speaking of, I think we better head back," Kayla looked to Cisco now, who pouted.

"We didn't find out why this world is drifting though," Cisco stated.

"Drifting?" Beth asked.

"Yeah, this world was part of a cluster but since… well, since a big multiverse event," he didn't want to go into Crisis with these teens, "this world's been moving out towards the wider multiverse."

"Should… should we be concerned?" Beth asked.

"No, but once I find out why, I'll let you know," Cisco smiled. "And maybe then I can add you guys to our multiverse system."

"That's a deal," Courtney stated, locking eyes with Kayla who simply nodded.

"Awesome," Cisco stated, "well, you lot better stand back," he added, the teenage heroes obeying curiously as Cisco opened his palm out and a portal opened in front of him and Kayla, separating the multiverse duo from this world's heroes. The portal seemed bigger and more impressive than normal, causing Kayla to groan.

"Whoa!" Kara and Courtney gasped.

"Sweet," Rick nodded his approval at the portal.

"Nice," Yolana smiled at the swirling vortex, obviously impressed too.

"That is so cool!" Beth added in the rear as Kayla shook her head.

"Show off," Kayla confirmed her groan to Cisco, who winked at her.

"Later, guys," Cisco stated, Kayla not saying another word as she stepped through the portal, Cisco following her.

-Hitchhiker's Guide-

Kayla was inside the Lake House on Karry now with the TV on quietly – it was a monster 50 inch TV that sort of overwhelmed the room, but it was good for movies, which she had one on. It was the second Harry Potter film and the cast all looked so young. She wondered if her original world would have had the movies of Harry Potter; it had been so long since she'd left, she couldn't even remember. She didn't really care though, as it was a passing thought, although Zari was into the film, sitting on the couch opposite Kayla.

Besides, she wasn't paying too much attention to the movie as she had her journal open, wondering what to put down.

Today, Cisco found a world drifting in the multiverse, she started. Curious, right? I mean there could be loads of reasons why it's moving, or maybe it always was, maybe all the multiverse worlds move, and this one is the one that actually caught Junior's attention? I don't know, but we did go there as he wanted and well… Kayla paused.

Teenagers! Yes, there were teenaged heroes on that world. The daughter of their original Justice Society member, Starman – I never did find out if he was the son of the original Stargirl, I'll have to ask next time we go there – along with the son of someone called Hourman. It also had a teenage version of Kara, which is still weird to see, despite having met Karen here. It was like looking into a time-displaced mirror. Nice though, thinking of the possibilities out there.

They had an evil Society, the Injustice Society, who killed and injured a lot of the original Justice Society – even leaving Clark disabled from Kryptonite poisoning. It's sad, but at least he's alive and has Lois and the kids there. And at least Kara and Zia, yes, she's there too, found somewhere nice, living with Clark's friend Pat there, and his new family – including aforementioned Stargirl. I'm not too sure on her and the others going around as heroes though, especially when they have this demon thing called Eclipso after them. I don't even know where to start with that one. Cisco's going to keep an eye on them, though. She stopped to look at her phone, her text messages to Cisco since showing up – she had a new one from him, which caused her to chuckle.

Cisco wants to call this world 'Legacy Earth', given the kids are taking over their superior's legacies. You know, I'm not against it… she replied to Cisco her okay as she looked up to the movie to see Mrs Weasley's Howler shouting at Ron. She chuckled. I told that Stargirl she needed more people in her Justice Society. That she needed to double down and take inventory and not jump ahead like she's trying right now. It takes time to build a Justice League - well, Society. But you know, something tells me this world will be important later on, she mused now in her journal, I don't know why, but these teenage heroes could really become something.

Still, I have to wonder what world Cisco will have for me next time? She added, leaving this an open question as she set the journal aside. She didn't know what else to write, anyway, so instead she closed her journal.

"Popcorn?" Zari asked, getting up to head to the kitchen to get a bag.

"Sure," Kayla nodded; she liked her new housemates, but kind of wished Mon wasn't asleep and she could enjoy the film with him too.

Note: So, Legacy Earth will indeed be important to the future of the Millma Verse; not just a fun twist on the Stargirl TV show. But you'll have to wait to SuperEarth: Fate to find out why.
