Note: We are BACK with a five-chapter update of Hitchhiker's Guide - one that's very close to Kayla's heart. We hope you enjoy...
Double Puppy Round Up
Late-November, 2022
On Prime Earth, the speedster blur on the beach and the Kryptonian blur in the sky were zooming after the small barking blur speeding across the sand, both trying to catch up with it.
Powie had had her second litter about two months prior, having five puppies this time and, just like El from her first litter, one of the puppies was very hyperactive – they had only just started letting the puppies away from their mom when this particular puppy had escaped the Beach House and ran. Hitchhiking Kayla, who was covering for Kara who was currently heavily pregnant with twins, had been filling the gap for the pregnant Power Girl, as usual, and had been staying at the Beach House with them, so had been around to help with the Great Puppy Escape this time.
"Got you!" Barry called as he tackled the puppy to the sand about two miles down the stretch of beach away from Central City, keeping a tight grip on the now-happily-yapping little dog as Kayla sighed and landed next to Barry.
"How is it you guys have a whole house dedicated to dogs but can't keep one on a leash?" She asked, not unkindly as she smirked at the puppy now playfully licking Barry, keeping an eye in case the puppy tried to escape the speedster's hold.
"Those are just normal and meta dogs, this one is Kryptonian," Barry explained. "It would have been helpful if Polly could have come and helped chase this one down…"
"But she's helping Colin's Power Boy over in Coast City," Cisco interrupted through the coms.
"Of course," Barry nodded as he started walking up the beach with the puppy firmly in his grip, despite the dog trying to escape again. Kayla gave the puppy a stern look to let it know not to escape again.
"Hey, Bar, Kayla, we just had a portal try to open in the Labs," Cisco added, causing Barry to pause.
"Why didn't they come through? It's probably Karry or SuperEarth or New Justice or…" Barry began, listing off the worlds that they had continuous contact with.
"Urm, it wasn't those… Kayla," the switch to addressing Kayla made both heroes pause, "it was Villian Earth." Kayla froze at this, and Barry almost dropped the dog, but stopped himself.
"W… Why would they…?" Kayla muttered, not having heard of her original world in years.
"I don't know, but we were able to block the portal anyway," Cisco explained.
"Good," Barry stated, reading his multiversal sister-in-law's reaction well, "because we don't need their drama."
"I know," Cisco stated, "luckily they don't know about the Secret Sanctuary cos we don't need them turning up in this base," he referred to the 'Watchtower' of Prime, which in this case was a converted shipping container that they kept far out in the Pacific Ocean with access through teleportation, speedster running and general flying, of course.
"True," Barry agreed.
"We did, however, have someone else turn up at the Secret Sanctuary," Cisco added as Kayla and Barry continued their walk back to the Beach House.
"Oh?" Barry asked, now keeping the finally-quiet dog tight next to him.
"Jonny Kent," Cisco stated. "Remember, the Rae and Clark kid we sent to Karry knowing full well they'd keep him?"
"Oh yeah," Barry grinned now, almost chuckling – he and Cisco had long-since devised a plan to thin their Stranded Department Block of those who'd lost worlds by sending them to places where they wouldn't be sent back; as much as they all liked Jonny Kent, they'd all known he'd fit well on Karry. Karry Universe agreeing to house Strandeds temporarily had helped them give excuses to send some there.
"He came with Musty and five of her puppies," Cisco added.
"Five? I thought Musty had eight puppies?" Kayla spoke up at this.
"Two have gone to their Animal Sanctuary, Morgan instantly claimed one while Jonny has another, I think they want to find homes for the others and since we're at that stage with Powie's current litter, well two-birds, one-stone," Cisco explained.
"Good idea," Barry nodded as they had finally reached the beach front of his Beach House. "Send him to the Beach House," he stated.
"He's…" Cisco began.
"Already here," the familiar young man with sandy hair and strong features appeared from the back of the house, it's bi-folding doors half-closed, with a little Retriever-Husky mix by his side – one of Powie's first litter had mated with Goofy, the Kryptonian Husky that Morgan on Karry owned, and this handsome dog was the result of that pairing.
"Wow," Barry breathed as he came over and crouched in front of the puppy, who seemed very well behaved compared to the little dog in his arms, who now wagged his tail at what would be his nephew.
"Meet Legend," Jonny smirked at the name of his dog. "Me and him just fell in love with each other the moment I saw him."
"Nice to meet you Legend," Barry had to chuckle as he pet the dog with his free hand, then he stood to shake Jonny's hand with his free arm.
"Let me," Kayla stated, holding out her arms for Barry to hand the puppy to, which he did with pleasure. "Thanks," he added to Kayla.
"So…" Jonny began.
"You bought puppies with you," Barry acknowledged. "Cisco told me on coms," he indicted to his ear, taking out the earpiece as he un-summoned his Speed Force outfit.
"My Kara and Barry mentioned you were going to see about homes for your Powie puppies, so I thought I'd bring some of the puppies we need rehoming. These four deserve actual owners instead of the Sanctuary," Jonny explained as they walked into the house – there was a bit of a crowd inside, with Powie and her puppies in their pen, Musty and her puppies having joined them, the very heavily pregnant Kara on the couch next to the pen, along with Barry half-sister Amelia Ivy, and Kara's own grandparent, Seg and Nyssa. "Oh, who's the new girl?" Jonny asked under his breath of the new woman there, with long brown hair and a pale face. She made up a trio of women on the couch as she sat next to Kara and Amelia Ivy.
"Oh, you never met Rein," Barry stated to Jonny, who paused as the young woman looked over to Jonny and smiled.
"Urm, no, but that name…" Jonny began.
"I know, I know," Barry waved this off as Kayla sat in the pen with the dogs; Seg and Nyssa were on stools next to the pen as they watched the Kryptonian dogs. "Rein, come over and say hi to Jonny," he asked.
"Sure," the woman stated as she got up and moved over, holding a hand out herself for Jonny to shake.
"I'm Rein Zor-El," the young woman explained. "I have a… complicated history," she looked over to her grandparents at this, who nodded to her, as if encouraging her to continue. "My dad, Zor-El, was part of a secret experimental program on Krypton due to the effects of our red sun, he used his and mom's – Alura, before you ask – DNA to make me, so I'm biologically 100% an El and Kara's sister, but there were… complications," she bit her lip at this.
"The program was shut down," Seg spoke up, "but Rein here wasn't quite right."
"Seg!" Nyssa interrupted her husband at the wording, getting up to move over to her granddaughter. "Rein came out special, we ended up having to put her on a special schooling program we have on Krypton and she's come out perfect." Nyssa hugged her granddaughter.
"And my powers work under red sun, not yellow," Rein explained once she pulled out of Nyssa's hug, "so I moved to Earth to live with Grandma Nyssa and Grandpa Seg to have a bit of a normal life."
"She covers when I go on adventures away from maternity cover though," Kayla voiced from the puppy pen, holding one of Musty's handsome dogs now.
"Yeah, I wear a red sun bracelet to emulate the traditional Kryptonian powers," Rein explained.
"It's helpful to have two people cover," Kara spoke from the couch, rubbing her belly. "Oh, they kicked again," she added as Amelia Ivy went to feel her sister-in-law's baby belly.
"I hope they're not fighting in there," Amelia Ivy remarked as Barry moved over and Rein took her seat again on the couch.
"Els don't fight one another," Seg remarked from his stool as Kara chuckled at the statement.
"Well, usually they don't…" Kayla began as a poral opened in the room, causing the puppies to bark with excitement; Barry leapt up as he went to grab their escapee puppy from running again at the excitement as two Ciscos now entered the room through the portals.
"Hey, hey, what did we say about portals with the puppies?!" Barry demanded, rounding on the two Ciscos now.
"I tried to stop him," one Cisco stated.
"Sorry," the other Cisco remarked.
"Mutant?" Barry asked, knowing his Cisco and Mutant's Cisco – his Cisco dressed more smartly these days, whereas Mutant Cisco had a more casual look, plus he seemed to like to wear Stetsons too, much like Barry's own Mutant counterpart.
"Yeah," Mutant Cisco nodded. "Where's Mon?"
"My Mon?" Kayla asked. "Having a lie in. What are you doing here?"
"Oh," Cisco remarked. "Well, I heard on the grapevine you've got puppies to give away and I have to be involved."
"You do?" Kayla asked her friend.
"It's multiverse hopping, plus I know the worlds that need puppies," Mutant Cisco explained.
"You do?" Kara now echoed her sister-in-law.
"Yes," Mutant Cisco stated as Prime Cisco chuckled.
"Kingdom Come, FrostAllen, and Arrow Earth for sure," Mutant Cisco remarked. "Random Earth could do with another dog after Sarge, and Legacy's Kara or Zia might do well with a puppy – they are young Kryptonians there, after all."
"Yeah, and Arrow Earth needs two puppies," Prime Cisco stated to his Mutant counterpart
"Okay," Barry stated, looking to Kara now who shrugged on the couch. It was lucky there were seven puppies to give away.
"I'm not leaving Kara – she's due any day now – so do you two want to handle this?" Barry asked the two Ciscos.
"Two Vibes and seven Kryptonian puppies?" Kayla laughed at the prospect. "They wouldn't last, especially with Houdini…"
"Houdini?" Mutant Cisco asked.
"Oh, the escapee puppy. He's kind of like El from your world," Kayla remarked as Mutant Cisco groaned at this comparison.
"Since when did we name him Houdini?" Barry asked Kayla.
"Since just now. I came up with it," Kayla remarked, just as a little device on Prime Cisco's wrist sounded.
"Urgh, another portal from Villian Earth?" He muttered to himself as the room went quiet at this.
"Stop them," Kayla hissed at this.
"Already have," Cisco sighed.
"You know what, I'll come with you two to deliver puppies," Kayla stated, getting up. "If my original world is after me, the one place they don't need to come to is here, so if I'm off-world, they won't come here," she stated as Barry and Cisco shared a look.
"Gives me a chance to be Power Girl for a while," Rein smiled.
"Yeah, I do actually have notes on that," Kara remarked, shifting her position on the couch.
"Hey, if you're going to Vibe off, do it outside," Barry quickly stated.
"Don't worry, we will now," Prime Cisco remarked, frowning at his double who had been the one to open the portal into the Beach House.
"So, which dogs are going?" Kayla asked and, as in response, Powie stood and picked up one of the four to place the puppy in Kayla's arms. "Oh, okay," Kayla chuckled, but before she could ask more, Powie had gone and retrieved another puppy to hand over, causing the room to laugh at this. "And Houdini too?" She now asked the dog, who nodded at that.
"What's happening to the others?" Mutant Cisco had to ask, noticing the remaining puppies in the pen.
"You don't want to know," Amelia Ivy chuckled from the couch, causing Mutant Cisco to raise an eyebrow but decided not to ask further.
"Is Musty coming with to make sure her pups get a good home?" Prime Cisco asked, more to the actual dog than to Jonny who she'd come with.
"Yeah, definitely," Jonny remarked anyway as Musty now began moving her two puppies away from the others with her snout as if to say 'these are the two to go' to the others.
"Ciscos, grab a puppy – I have these two," Kayla remarked, holding the two Powie puppies in her arms as both Ciscos went to grab puppies. "Oh," she realized there was one puppy left, but Musty moved forward and picked it up by the fur with her mouth – the dog being one of Powie's, so was Musty's own little sibling.
"Urm, Kara…?" Kayla asked, wondering why her sister wasn't demanding the puppies to stay.
Barry must have picked up on this as he stated: "The one good thing about Kryptonian pregnancies, is Kara's emotions are everywhere…"
"Yeah, they can go," Kara remarked, almost distractedly, as she waved off the puppies – Kayla didn't waste time in waiting to see if her dog-obsessed sister would change her mind as she, after last-minute lick from Powie to her leaving puppies, moved toward the backdoor, Ciscos with puppies in their arms and Musty behind the Kryptonian with the last puppy in her mouth.
-Hitchhiker's Guide-
The first portal opened in a large house, Prime Cisco whistling his approval as he looked around.
"Nice digs," Prime Cisco mused.
"Not mine," a recognizable voice spoke as a familiar blonde entered the room, along with a teenage brunette.
"Sara Lance," Hitchhiking Kayla smiled at this. "And Nora Darkh," she recognized the teenage version due to Karry Universe having their teenage Nora.
"Actually, Sara Palmer," Sara corrected the Kryptonian, who paused at this – a Sara who was with Ray was unusual. "And I'm guessing with the abundance of dog, you're not multiverse bad guys come to turn yourselves in…?"
"Urm," Kayla looked to the other Cisco's at this, noticing from the corner of her eye that Musty was having trouble keeping a grip on her little sibling.
"This is Bounty Earth," Mutant Cisco provided for his friend. "They knew about the multiverse while we all thought it a scientific myth – they have bad guys leaving to find new homes, only to be tracked back here and prosecuted according to the laws of this world. Kara and Rae here are trackers, as well."
"You know a lot," Sara remarked, surprised. "Then again, our Cisco Ramon had vibe powers and could spy on the multiverse. Shame he was so evil – he could have been a help to Kara and Rae."
"What's with all the puppies anyway?" Nora remarked, closest to Kayla and giving Houdini a pet.
"They're Kryptonian dogs," Prime Cisco explained.
"We plan on giving them out across the multiverse and thought your Kara or Rae…" Kayla began.
"Well Kara, Rae and Barry are out on tracks, my Ray – that's Ray Palmer – is with their kids, being their nanny, so it's just Nora and me here," Sara remarked.
"Ray Palmer a nanny? Makes a change from Caitlin," Prime Cisco chuckled – a comment ignored by the others.
"I'm their neighbor. Well, me and dad are," Nora provided. "It's helpful living next door to the Flashes and Super Blue Arrow."
"Super Blue…?" Kayla looked at the Ciscos at this one.
"Kara lost her powers to save her Clark. Oliver trained her as a vigilante," Mutant Cisco informed his friend.
"Right," Kayla remarked, just as Musty let out a growl for the team to see that the puppy she had been holding had got loose. Sara jumped and grabbed the little golden dog, which proceeded to lick the woman on the face, happy for the human interaction.
"Well, it seems that one found someone to love," Nora remarked, chuckling at the dog licking Sara.
"Oh, well, we were thinking Kryptonian or speedsters but… how would you feel about having a Kryptonian dog?" Kayla asked Sara.
"As long as he can be trained," Sara remarked, pushing the dog off herself, the dog seeming to sense what Sara meant, so calmed down.
"It's easier than you think," Prime Cisco mused.
"What about the other puppies…?" Nora asked, looking to the rest of the dogs.
"Sorry, Nora, but they're all saved for other worlds," Kayla stated, smiling meekly at the girl.
"Ah, dad wouldn't allow it anyway," Nora shrugged. "He's more a cat person too."
"I think it's time for the next world," Kayla turned to the others, noticing Musty seemed happy no longer holding a dog herself – lucky thing, as Kayla and the Ciscos were carrying two puppies each.
"Which world?" Sara asked, genuinely intrigued.
"I think Arrow Earth next," Prime Cisco reasoned, opening a portal now.
"Beta-Sigma… something," Sara voiced, the others looking to her in curiosity. "Yeah, we have different names for worlds too. I've heard Ray mentioning Kara and Rae's terms. I once heard something like that referred to as Arrow Earth," Sara explained.
"Right…" Mutant Cisco mused as Kayla had already jumped through the portal. The little dog yapped in Sara's arms as the others left too.
-Hitchhiker's Guide-
Kayla and the Ciscos next portal opened in a spacious living room to two people playing a video game on a large television. Kayla recognized Barry, obviously, and the pre-teen girl that was Luna, the daughter of Barry and June Moone. This was definitely Arrow Earth.
"Is that Hogwarts Legacy?" Prime Cisco asked, causing the two in the living room to jump, having not noticed the portal that the hitchhikers had arrived through.
"Oh hi. That's… a lot of dogs," Arrow's Barry complimented of the now-six puppies and one Musty.
"Please tell me they're for us," Luna added, having paused the game and looking at the dogs shared between the three individuals.
"Not all of them, but we promised you some dogs a while ago and both Prime's Powie and Karry's Musty here recently had puppies, so you get the first – in literal terms – pick of the litter," Mutant Cisco stated, deciding not to mention their previous visit to Bounty Earth. Luckily, Prime Cisco and Kayla didn't question the choice of words.
"But they're for Kayla and Kara," Prime Cisco added before looking to his double for confirmation, "right?"
"Yeah," Mutant Cisco nodded as both he and his Prime double had to put down their puppies, but Kayla was still holding her two. "They both don't have their Kryptonian powers so the dogs will help on that side of things."
"Daddy…?" Luna looked at Barry at this as he laughed.
"I'm sure Momma Kayla will love any of the dogs you pick out, and Aunt Kara will too," Barry told his daughter, who seemed to be waiting for the all-clear before heading over to the dogs, who were playing with one another at the Ciscos feet now the Vibes had let go of them.
"I'm not massively familiar with this world, but I thought you'd be with Kara, not Kayla?" Prime Cisco pointed out to Barry.
"No," Barry frowned at this. "I'm married to my Kayla while Kara is in a long term relationship with Laurel Lance. They suit each other quite well - the badass lawyer and the all-too-serious hotel manager."
"Wait, Kara's with Laurel Lance? Who's with Olly – Felicity?" Prime Cisco asked.
"Who's Felicity?" Barry asked to a pause from the group. "Doesn't matter anyway as Olly is with Tommy here."
"Interesting," Mutant Cisco mused.
"Kara manages a hotel?" Kayla picked this up, having been distracted by Luna playing with the puppies and Musty – Kayla had even put her two puppies down too.
"A chain of hotels," Barry remarked; Kayla was unsure if this had always been so or if this was a Crisis change, but she shrugged it off.
"You never did answer me," Prime Cisco voiced to Barry now.
"What?" Barry asked, confused.
"Hogwarts Legacy?" He nodded to the paused game on the television.
"Oh. Yeah. Do you play?" Barry asked.
"Wish I could! It's been delayed twice on my world," Mutant Cisco voiced.
"Oh wow, well my gaming company put lot of money into this to make its original release date – and added a multiplayer option, which is what Loony and I are playing," Barry grinned at that.
"I've got to get you in contact with Karry Universe – their Barry has a gaming company and have a Kryptonian Colony game that you'll love," Mutant Cisco smirked at this. "Actually, come to think of it, I think he has a large group text with other Barrys who also make videogames too. I'll let him know there's another one to add."
"Daddy!" Luna called, holding a puppy while another one floated in front of her, licking its sibling. "These two are inseparable. Reminds me of Momma Kara and Aunt Kayla."
"Then I think we have our two puppies," Barry chuckled, moving over to grab the floating puppy, who barked playfully at the interaction.
"Musty? They're your pups," Kayla voiced, glancing to the puppies' mom, who wagged her tail in approval. "Well, it seems you have puppies. Any idea on names?"
"They're both girls, I think," Prime Cisco voiced.
"I think we should let Kara and Kayla name them, don't you, Loony?" Barry asked his daughter, who had paused at the question of naming but ultimately agreed to her dad's decision.
"Well we better be going – we have a few more to give away," Kayla remarked at this.
"We need to come back to play your Hogwarts Legacy," Mutant Cisco stated to Barry, his Prime double agreeing with that.
"Fair enough," Barry nodded as the Ciscos picked up one puppy each now, while Kayla picked up Houdini and his sibling. Luna was happily playing with the puppies she had chosen now.
"Where to next?" Kayla asked as Prime Cisco opened the next portal.
-Hitchhiker's Guide-
The next portal opened on the familiar layout of STAR Labs, only this seemed to be the original layout of STAR Labs – no Karry Universe upgrades, no Prime Palmer Tech takeover or Mutant STAR Labs Museum here. There was one difference though, as on the wall where the logo was were some very interesting wording.
"STAR Labs Meta Prison?" Kayla was the one to read this aloud.
"Oh yeah, that was an interesting change thanks to the Paragons," Prime's Cisco mused.
"Again with that word. My brother doesn't shut up about the Paragons," the familiar voice of Barry spoke as the three turned to the doorway to see the man – except this one had blonde streaks in his hair, whether natural or dyed they didn't know.
"You must be Max," Prime Cisco moved forward, momentarily forgetting he was holding a puppy.
"Yeah, I am," Max stated, frowning now at the dogs in the room. "Why the puppies?"
"Two of our adult dogs had litters, we're giving them away to those who can handle Kryptonian dogs – thus the multiverse," Mutant Cisco spoke.
"Those are Kryptonion dogs?" A new voice spoke, and Kara herself walked into the room. "Just like Barry's Sarge?"
"Pretty much," Kayla smirked at another version of her alternative sister.
"I remember when Barry came back with Sarge, this one was so jealous she didn't get a Kryptonian dog," Max stated, playfully nudging Kara.
"I wasn't jealous, I just thought… well, I am the Kryptonian so I should have been the one… why are you three looking like that?" She noticed the looks the three hitchhikers shared at them reminiscing; of course, all three knew that Random World was made recently by the Paragons to give Random Barry, along with his own Caitlin and Cisco, a new world – it wasn't something they could do for every stranded person, but Random Barry had been a special case and a good friend to the Paragons – but of course, those native to the world didn't know or realize that they hadn't technically existed less than a year ago.
"Oh, nothing," Kayla responded quickly to the question, "just nice to see Random Max and Kara thinking on old times."
"Yeah, that's another thing," Max now pointed out as the puppy in Prime Cisco's arm decided at this moment to try to escape, "why are we called Random?"
"Well your Barry kept randomly appearing on other worlds," Prime Cisco explained as he failed to hold the puppy, which Kara managed to catch, "so the name kind of came with your Barry."
"Ah right," Max nodded, but didn't seem entirely convinced.
"Oh, she is so cute," Kara remarked of the puppy she now held, not bothered by the naming question or answer.
"One of Musty's puppies," Prime Cisco explained, the older dog now by Kara and giving her a good old sniff for approval.
"Well, you make very cute puppies," Kara stated to the dog, who barked her support at this.
"I think she's yours now," Kayla smirked at her alternative twin who paused as this. The dog in her arms wagged her tail approvingly.
"Wow, thank you," Kara mused, just a familiar sound went off on Prime Cisco's person.
"Please tell me you haven't detected a other portal from you-know-where?" Kayla asked Prime Cisco.
"Yeah, this time to here. I blocked it again but it's harder to block away from Prime," Prime Cisco explained.
"Then let's go," Kayla stated, glaring at both Ciscos like it was their fault.
"I'm now lost," Kara mused.
"We'll... fill you in later," Mutant Cisco advised as Prime opened his own portal this time.
"Enjoy the puppy," Prime Cisco added as Kayla had already jumped into the portal – still holding the two Powie puppies in her arms like they were nothing.
"Thanks," Kara mused, playfully petting her new dog as Musty gave her second pup to leave the nest one last lick before following the others into the portal.
-Hitchhiker's Guide-
This time their portal opened in a completely different location, but one that instantly bought a distraction to Kayla as, not only did it make her smile, but it instantly made her feel physically weak – even the puppies in her arms must have felt the drain in powers as they started fidgeting and yapping.
"Kingdom Come," Kayla spoke up, knowing that there was only one Fortress of Solitude in the multiverse, that she knew of, of course, that drained Kryptonian powers – she assumed it was because the Fortress was a literal slice of Krypton, making the occupant Kryptonian in a Kryptonian environment. It was unique given all other Fortresses allowed their Kryptonian occupants to keep their powers, but kind of cool too.
"Its you!" A familiar voice called as a young blonde woman came out from a side room of the Fortress. "And you have dogs?!"
"Hey there… Zia, right?" Kayla asked the young woman; she and Mutant Cisco had been to this world once before to discover that the Paragon of Hope himself, Clark of this world, had given himself a little cousin in Zia thanks to Crisis, due to his Kara not wanting to know him much. So far, Kayla only knew of two worlds with a Zia on: this one, and the world known as Legacy Earth, but she figured there had to be more out there now.
"Yeah, Zia. I know I'm not on every world," Zia stated with a shrug as she went to pet one of the puppies in Kayla's own arms.
"Its true," Prime Cisco spoke up.
"All worlds are varied with different people, some have siblings, some are the siblings and some just don't exist," Mutant Cisco added.
"You speak in riddles," the familiar Ray Palmer version of Clark appeared in the room, as usual dressed in his slightly alternative version of the Superman suit with the black background to his 'S' symbol instead of the usual blue.
"Well, as the Paragon of Hope you should know what I meant," Cisco chuckled to the Paragon of Hope.
"True. Let me guess, these are Kryptonian dogs and you're giving them away?" Clark asked.
"Bingo," Prime Cisco stated.
"Zia, do you want a puppy?" Clark smirked, turning to his cousin; while the Meta Human Resistance had Kryptonians animals, they had left with the Meta Humans when the Kryptonians and Daxamites came – the animals needed to help bring Kryptonian culture back to life on their new world, so neither would ask Alura Zor-El for one, but this was multiverse.
"On the condition we don't name her Lois," Zia chucked, causing Clark to pause as she seemed to have already taken one of the puppies from Kayla – sadly not escapee Kayla had named Houdini.
"How do you know it's a girl?" Clark paused at this.
"I already checked…" Zia pointed out, indicating the puppy's underside.
"Oh," Clark chuckled at this. "And is this the mommy?" He had only just noticed the adult dog by Kayla's feet, going to pet her head. Musty seemed a little resistant, but this was due to her sudden lack of powers rather than any suspicions on Clark himself.
"Yes and no," Mutant Cisco spoke up.
"She's the mommy to some of the puppies we're giving away – it's actually her mom, Powie, who had her second litter and who's puppy Zia's just chose," Kayla remarked.
"Ooh, well a proud Momma and sister, it seems," Clark added to the dog who gave a soft bark at him now as he continued to pat her and complimented her.
"Well, we have two more puppies to give away, so where to next?" Kayla asked, not wanting to get away from her alternative cousin and little sister but wanting her powers back. She never wanted to be weak for so long, after all – especially with Villain Earth apparently on her trail.
"FrostAllen," Prime and Mutant Cisco said as one.
"That's a weird one," Clark mused.
"How do you know about FrostAllen?" Prime Cisco asked.
"I'm a Paragon," Clark shrugged for this response.
"Fair enough," Prime Cisco didn't question further as he opened the next portal.
"Thanks for the puppy!" Zia spoke up at this.
"You're welcome," Kayla smiled as the hitchhikers moved through the Portal to their next world.
-Hitchhiker's Guide-
Arriving in what was obviously an apartment, the trio noticed how cold it was, just as Kayla and the remaining dogs regained their powers, but didn't get the chance to question it as the door to a room opened a very naked Barry Allen came walking out with a smug expression.
"Whoa!" All three called as the naked Barry cried out and vanished in a flash of speed. A second later he reappeared in casual clothes followed by a curious white-haired Caitlin lookalike, or at least the meta that shared Caitlin's body: Frost.
"What the hell?" Barry was the one to ask as Frost smirked at the situation.
"Sorry, we just didn't…" Prime Cisco began.
"That's an image I'm never getting out of my head," Mutant Cisco added with distain.
"Oh, calm down – you only wish you had his body and his big–" Frost began.
"We're sorry to interrupt," Kayla stated loudly, to drown out Frost's rather open statement as Musty barked at her, "but we're hopping worlds to find homes for these little things," she tried to lighten the mood with puppies.
"I'm more of a cat person," Frost remarked casually.
"Speak for yourself," Barry stated, the puppies definitely having lightened the mood.
"Urgh, Caity likes dogs too," Frost suddenly added, as if Caitlin had spoken to her in her head – which she likely had given the pair shared a body on this world.
"Me too!" A new voice spoke and all five jumped at the appearance of a young redheaded girl none of them knew.
"What the…?" Barry repeated for the second time as he frowned at the girl. "Did she come with you?" He added to the Hitchhikers.
"Urm no… she's new," Prime Cisco paused shocked at the new girl who had randomly appeared.
"Oh calm down, I'm AJ," the girl stated to blank faces. "Wow, SuperEarth didn't tell you about me? I'm Ray and Sidney Palmer's younger sister, from the world known as Legacy Earth – but more to the point, I'm the daughter of the Sphere of the Gods."
"Sphere of the what?" Frost asked.
"One of the Forces of the Universes," Prime Cisco stated, as if this explained everything.
"Yeah, still lost," Frost remarked.
"I didn't detect you using a portal to get here," Prime Cisco now added to AJ.
"Oh, I don't use portals. Part of the magic of my… well, magic," she explained.
"Oh a magic user, like Constantine and Raven," Mutant Cisco nodded.
"And Nora Darkh," Barry added, causing them to pause.
"You have Nora Darkh here?" Kayla turned to Barry, wondering if this was the teenager like Karry and Bounty, or the adult version from the future.
"Yeah, she's an old time traveller who got stuck in her past here, our present, and well, it's a funny story actually…" whether he was going to go into the story or not remained to be seen as the little dog in Kayla's arms suddenly wiggled free and jumped at AJ, who remarkably, caught the Kryptonian puppy with ease – the dog then started to lick AJ, wagging its tail.
"Kryptonian dogs are way too smart," Kayla stated as Musty barked her opinion too. "It seems little Houdini wants you as his Momma," she added to AJ.
"Houdini?" AJ frowned at the name. "I don't know…" but the little dog growled at her doubt, causing the girl to chuckle. "Okay, okay, you can be Houdini," she stroked the dog's fur at this and laughed.
"The magic user and the magic dog, it fits," Prime Cisco mused.
"Which makes this one yours," Mutant Cisco added, handing over the last puppy to Barry. "She's one of Musty's puppies," he nodded to the adult dog that had moved over to Barry, as if to give him the all-clear too.
"Why, thank you," Barry smiled as he took the puppy in his own arms. "And next time you come over, let us know first…"
"Yeah, might want to revise the old world hopping a bit," Prime Cisco mused.
"Oh Kayla, there's two people back on Prime who want to talk to you," AJ stated suddenly.
"How do you…?" Kayla asked, taken aback.
"I'm a kid of the Sphere of the Gods. I just… know," AJ shrugged. "I think their portals were initially blocked but they timed it right to get over there when you guys portalled here."
"How did you…?" It was Prime Cisco who asked this one.
"Like I said, I'm a kid of the Sphere," AJ shrugged as if this answered everything. It didn't, but she wasn't going to tell them anything more.
"Well, we better head back home then," Prime Cisco sighed, noticing Kayla had gone pale. "All the puppies are gone."
"Wait, I can't go back to–" but Kayla didn't finish her sentence as AJ moved forward and gently pushed the Kryptonian, who vanished in a flash of blue.
"What did you do?!" both Cisco's called as Musty now barked in shock.
"Don't worry, I just sent her back to Prime. You should head back there too, because she's going to need friends…" AJ mused.
"I wouldn't call us friends…" Prime Cisco mused.
"You, maybe not, but him?" she nodded to Mutant Cisco. "He's definitely Kayla's best friend."
"That's sweet," Frost commented, to a look from the others. "What? I may be cold, but I'm not cold-hearted," she added, defensively.
-Hitchhiker's Guide-
Kayla was shocked to find herself back in STAR Labs on Prime, given she hadn't portalled back. She figured AJ must have sent her back here, but this was the last place she wanted to be as her eyes found the two figures waiting for her.
Both looked disheveled, a little worse for wear, but she couldn't mistake Henry Allen and Cindy Reynolds, the latter known mostly as Gypsy.
"Finally!" Cindy was the one to say this. "Long time no see, stranger."
"You're from Villain Earth," Kayla hissed.
"Villain Earth?" Henry was the one to question that.
"Oh right. You don't know your own name," Kayla stated.
"Well, my portals do keep getting blocked from visiting other worlds," Cindy remarked, just as another portal opened in the room and both Ciscos and Musty came out, the Kryptonian dog sensing the atmosphere in the room as she instantly moved over to growl at the two newcomers.
"Henry and Gypsy?" Mutant Cisco asked as Prime Cisco went red at the appearance of the other Gypsy – one of the multiverse versions of Gypsy was his girlfriend now, after all. "Or are you Jay Garrick?"
"I'm Henry," the older man responded, not reacting to being mistaken for Jay.
"Gypsy? Well, that's a new one," Cindy stated, though.
"You're not named Gypsy?" Mutant Cisco paused at this.
"No, she's not," Kayla stated drying. "Why are you here? Why after me? We made a deal when you evacuated some of the partisans that we wouldn't make contact again."
"Yes, well new information has come to light," Henry spoke up.
"Doesn't change the fact that I've put my past behind me. After my Clark and Kara's death…" Kayla began, Mutant Cisco moved next to his friend now, keeping her in check.
"Not all your family are dead, Kayla," Henry stated.
"Well that figures as Lois chose to remain on that world," Kayla stated of her foster mom. She and Lois has left things amicably as Lois has been determined to fight the injustice of the corrupt government that had led to their world to become overrun by selfish meta humans and bad vigilantes after her husband's death.
"Not Lois, but you're close. You see we found a facility in Washington DC, with good people locked up. We intended to free those captured but our numbers are weak – we could do with your help," Cindy explained.
"I don't see a connection," Kayla stated. "Can't you just… Vibe in?"
"Impossible with the Flash keeping guard," Henry stated.
"The Flash, as in Barry – your son," Kayla snapped at the man, who frowned at the accusation. Both Ciscos were keeping quiet, while Musty was still growling but waiting for someone to make the first move.
"Kayla!" Cindy retorted. "Its your mom – Alura – she's alive and in this prison!" As if to explain herself, she threw a photograph at the Kryptonian, who caught it.
An older, worn-looking, unmistakable, Alura Zor-El was the focus of the image, which seemed to be a photo of a video surveillance screen. She was being held in some type of cryogenic stasis and didn't seem to be reactive.
"They put her in that after her arrival. This one is of when she arrived," Henry said bringing out another photo which Kayla could see her mother better in.
"Mom…?" Kayla couldn't believe her eyes. This did change things.
-Hitchhiker's Guide-
Dear Dairy. Wait, is that how Kayla starts these things? Maybe I should say something better… To Me? Well I am the one going to be looking at this later and after all, aren't diaries meant to be private? Then again, hers is a journal so I suppose that's different. Does it really matter?
Anyway, this was an interesting day to say the least. First, not only did my Prime double not even think about contacting me about distributing puppies but I also saw a Barry naked, discovered a child of another Force and Kayla's original world came to visit.
Do I need to list everything we did though? That seems weird. Basically, Bounty Earth got a puppy – Sara there actually – while Arrow Earth got two of Musty's dogs, and Random Earth, Kingdom Come and FrostAllen got a dog each. And then some magic girl called AJ turned up and took El's spiritual little brother, who Kayla named Houdini which is actually an excellent name! At least it saved us a return trip to Legacy itself – although it did mean that Legacy's Kara or Zia didn't get a dog this time around.
But the most important part of today is Villain Earth. I've never been there but by the sounds of it it's not a nice world – Kalya never speaks of it and all I gleaned today about it was that Clark and Kara were killed and that Barry is evil there. Which sucks. I'm surprised she never mentioned it before with all the Barrys she sees. Must have got used to her Barry being an evil anomaly compared to the rest of the multiverse – except for New Justice's Barry.
But hey, Kayla's real-life mom is alive and somehow on the world. They wanted Kayla's help in freeing her but at least asked her to think it over rather than force her over – Kayla's gone to Karry Universe right now to think it all over. Probably doesn't help that our multiverse visitors are sticking around on Prime until she reaches a decision though.
I've got to admit, I would be torn about it too – if my family were still alive on a world I'd left after I thought them dead, I'd want to save them, although if that world was the cause of deep-rooted trauma that would complicate things somewhat.
I hope Kayla doesn't stay on Karry for too long though as Prime's Kara is heavily pregnant and does need the cover – there is that Rein girl that's basically a good version of Reign the Worldkiller, but she's not all that good from what I gather. Man, I hope she doesn't see this diary- journal entry. Eek!
Anyway, we'll see if I do this again or not. It was fun to document. Heh.
Cisco over and out!
Post Chapter Note: Well, it begins. A nice plot with an interesting conclusion! I hope you guys like what's to come.
