Companionship

Lita wasn't in the holiday spirit this year, frankly she would probably hide until this holiday was over. Not less than a month ago, her heart was torn in two by someone she thought she would spend the rest of her life with. A connection that supposedly came only once in a lifetime was destroyed by that blonde hair and those blue eyes. The redhead scolded herself through many shots on countless nights, hoping to forget that person ever existed. She was treated like trash for loving him, the entire locker room had turned against her. The former Diva thought this was what was meant to happen but karma bit her hard on the ass. Her whole world came crashing down and she hated what she used to love doing. Wrestling was what she wanted in life but it became tainted with the actions of her bad decisions. Nothing mattered anymore and this stupid holiday could shove it.

The redhead wrapped herself in her covers as her mind thought back to the one person that tried to be her friend despite all the backlash. A couple years back, WWE decided to host a competition called the 'Diva Search' where a bunch of random women get a shot to win some money and a contract. Lita wasn't a fan of the idea initially, she was wanting the division to go forward with skilled performers. Sure the women could be taught but did they have the passion for the business like the others? There was a little brunette that stood out to her, a woman by the name of Maria. Maria clearly had passion for the business, Lita knew that she wasn't bullshitting. The little brunette had this cutesy innocence about her that could have made the redhead nauseous at the time. Maria came in fifth place, flipping off one of the contestants as she exited the ring.

The brunette was sad about not winning but the people in the back liked her enough to sign her to a contract. Ria was described as a ray of sunshine at times, she was always so friendly to anyone backstage. Despite what Amy originally thought, the brunette wasn't ditsy like her character. It was honestly surprising, she played the character so well. Lita was hated amongst the locker room but that didn't seem to matter to Maria. The backstage interviewer would attempt to start conversations and be friendly to the Rated R Diva. At first the redhead dismissed her advances at friendship but slowly, those walls came crumbling down and she didn't want to be lonely again. Trish abandoned her, the others followed behind her. Yet Maria would always smile and wave every time she saw her. Why?

A loud couple knocks echoed throughout the quiet house as Lita angrily tossed the covers off of her body. "Who in the fuck could that be?" She cursed to herself as she laid motionless, unsure if she wanted to even answer the door. It was probably some church inviting her to some event or the neighbors being annoying as hell. This holiday was really making her sour about a lot of things. There was about a minute of silence until another series of quiet knocks were heard. "Coming!" The former Champion yelled, begrudgingly climbing out of the bed. Whoever was bothering her better had a good reason for doing so, if not, they were getting an earful. Whatever they were selling, she didn't want it. "What! I-" Her lips clicked shut as she stared frozen at the woman that was at her doorsteps. Those bright green eyes widened as the brunette flinched at the yelling. "Oh Ria.. I ..I am sorry."

"Hey Ames." That sweet tone immediately dissolved the sour tone in the redhead's demeanor as Lita stared confused at the woman in front of her. A wide smile graced her lips as she shivered slightly at the breeze cutting through the both of them. How did Maria get her address? Not mainly people visited her here but yet, the girl that was on Lita's mind is in front of her. "Can I come in?

If this was probably anyone else, the retired Diva would have closed the door in their face. It wouldn't hurt to have some company, would it? "Sure." A small giggle left the Diva as Lita watched the brunette walk in the house like she was a regular visitor. "Not to be rude or anything but what exactly are you doing here?"

"I was in the area soooo I decided to come check up on you." Maria fibbed as her eyes scanned the living room of her friend's house. She wasn't sure what she expected but all the posters and the decor definitely screamed Ames to her. Lita didn't respond straight away as she observed the rookie Diva further. It seems odd that someone that was just in Washington DC for RAW would be down in Atlanta since she lives in Illinois. Her attention focused on the brunette, who gently placed her hand on her shoulder. "You haven't messaged me since the night you retired. That was almost a month ago. I was very worried about you. Are you okay?" Those green eyes nearly made the redhead crumble, she felt the tears attempt to form in the corner of her eyes. Lita hadn't been 'okay' in a long time. The redhead would always grit her teeth and attempt to hide her feelings. Maria knew the truth and that Amy wouldn't confess how she was truly feeling. Everything that happened in the past year was really doing a number on her, she doesn't remember the last time she saw her friend smile or heard her laugh. "I am here and I am your friend if you want to talk about it."

"I-I.." The older woman stumbled, trying to find the right words to say without getting upset. This wasn't a topic she really wanted to discuss. Lita wasn't good at expressing how she truly felt, now weakness like that would only be used against her. Maria wasn't like the others. She wouldn't use something like this to her advantage, the brunette seemed to genuinely care about the redhead. Those eyes told Amy that Maria really cared for her, it had been so long since the former Diva had someone like that. "N-no. I.. I am not."

It was at that moment that the retired Diva couldn't fight the sadness overwhelming her, tears started pouring down her cheeks. Maria felt her heart break as her friend started to cry in front of her. She did what usually helped her own sadness, her arms quickly wrapped around and pulled the redhead closer. "There there, let it out." Ria soothed as one of her hands gently ran through the red locks. No more words were exchanged as the backstage interviewer allowed her friend to release all the feelings she had been keeping locked up. "Ames.." Maria mumbled as the redhead looked at her with glossy eyes. Lita was doing her best to attempt to calm down and to prevent another breakdown. The green eyed brunette brushed her thumb under Amy's eyes wiping away the stray tears. The action shocked the older woman almost causing her to flinch but this comfort was something she hadn't experienced in a long time. "Come sit down with me. Why don't we snuggle under a blanket and watch tv?"

"Okay.." That sounded great to the former Diva as Maria grabbed her hand and led her over to the couch. Amy took her seat on the edge as the brunette let out a content hum, grabbing a blanket that was on the back of the couch. The redhead watched Maria let out a cute giggle as she plopped down on the sofa beside her, throwing the blanket over both of them. "Say Ria, I never gave you my address so how did you get here?"

"That's a secret." Maria spoke with a wink. The backstage interviewer wasn't going to say anything about begging some of those 'former friends' for an address at one point.

"Tch. Not cool, man." Lita scoffed which earned a laugh out of the brunette. Amy wasn't going to press the issue further mainly because she was happy that Maria had come to visit. There was something about this girl.. Ria made the redhead feel things in such a way she never thought was possible again. Happiness could exist outside of wrestling, Adam and even Matt once upon a time. "..You really came out of your way to check up on me."

"Duh, Ames! You are my friend after all." It was almost a defensive tone which shocked the older woman briefly. A small smile finally graced her lips as Maria returned the gesture with a big grin of her own. Ria seemed to be thinking about something before her eyes darted over to her purse, which had something special inside. Now was the perfect time, the brunette made it her goal to lift her friend's spirit as high as possible. "I didn't know the next time I would see you so I figured I would give you your Christmas gift now." Maria clapped her hands with excitement; her attention went directly to her massive purse that seemed bigger than usual.

"You got me something." The guilt across her face was made apparent immediately, Lita felt horrible about this. She wasn't expecting anyone to visit her for the holidays let alone give her something. "I.. I am sorry, I wasn't really planning to celebrate this year so I hadn-"

"Amy, you are fine hun. You have been going through a lot alone." The brunette didn't buy her this gift to expect something in return; this was to brighten up the holidays for Amy. She saw this item and immediately thought back to one of their previous conversations. There was something that both of them thought about doing outside of wrestling, Lita had started pursuing that dream in September 2006. "Here, open it. I hope you like it." A box wrapped up in red and black paper was held out in front of the redhead, who reluctantly took the box.

"You're so sweet." What did Amy do to deserve a friend like her? The former Champion almost felt like a child again, excited to open this mysterious present. She hadn't the slightest idea what could be in the box. She tore the paper off like it was prey, and laid eyes on a plain white box. Maria wasn't giving her any hints about what's inside. Opening the box, Amy was finally able to see what was inside. "You.." Lita suspicions were correct as she grabbed a hold of the circular top and pulled it out of the box. It was a microphone. Her finger traced over the logo on the front, it was very familiar to her. A heart with angel wings and fire blazing from the top of it, thorns wrapping around each side. The name 'Lita' on the ribbon across the middle. The microphone itself was decked out with red and black gems. It was so pretty. "You customized this yourself, didn't you?" Maria didn't give a verbal response but confirmed with a nod of her head. This was the nicest thing anyone had done for her in the longest time. Amy felt like she wanted to cry again although the reason was completely different this time. "Thank you!" She almost screamed, her hands grabbing hold of the younger Diva and pulled her into a warm embrace. This hug initially surprised Ria, the brunette was practically on top of the older woman. She was relieved to see that warm smile on her friend's face, ignoring the hotness in her cheeks.

"I'm so glad you love it." Amy couldn't take her eyes off of the gift for the longest of times as she held the brunette as tight as she could. Whenever her eyes did eventually go back to the brunette, she realized that they were pretty close to each other. Lita felt her heart beat a little faster as the redhead was confused at the weird butterflies in her stomach. The former Diva released her grip as Maria chuckled, sliding back to the middle of the couch. "Say Ames, do you have any plans for Christmas?

"No, why?" Lita answered rather quickly as her heart was starting to go back to its normal pace. Being that close to Maria was the cause of it, but why? Why did it happen?

"Do you want to come with me and spend Christmas with my family? They would love you."

"I don't want to intru.." The former Champion started to speak until those green eyes widened to a puppy-like state. Lita scoffed quietly, she hated whenever Maria did that. It was too cute and plus having some company would hopefully mend her hurting heart. She wanted to get out of the hole she had dug herself by her lonesome, it was her problem. That wasn't what was meant to happen as a supposedly ditsy brunette was changing everything for her. "Yeah, I'd love that Ria."
