Travel

April Jeanette Mendez used to belong to the poorest family amongst her village however things changed whenever her first novel became a bestseller. Under the alias AJ Lee, she has written several novels while she traveled the world. Despite being well into her twenties, the petite brunette was often mistaken for a mere child. It was hard sometimes to get around due to that. Her travels found herself roaming many villages around the world meeting all sorts of characters, even some not so pleasant. Time of peace had been around for a while now, it had been several years since the last war. AJ was never afraid to travel alone. Winter time was going strong and April was doing everything in her power to make it back home before Christmas time. At the pace she was going, the small brunette might be able to barely manage. She let out a sigh.

The cold breeze was cutting her tiny frame in two, her hood struggling to stay on top of her head. Everything in front of her was starting to get harder to see as a deep fog was starting to surround the area. This wasn't common around these greenery around her was starting to disappear from view, shapes were becoming blobs. This didn't seem like an ordinary mist, it was way too thick. April could no longer see what was in front of her, she could hardly see her own feet in the snow. "Wha-Ah!" A sharp object made its new home inside her thigh, causing the petite brunette to fall to the ground. She winced at the pain. Her eyes were drawn to the foreign object and her face lost all color looking at the crimson pool that was soaking her clothing. The weapon being none other than a kunai knife. These were tools used by trained shinobi. Why?

"You are on our turf, little lady. No one crosses our territory without permission." AJ heard a deep voice talk in front of her, it sounded almost distorted. Her heart was pounding so hard it might escape her chest. Footsteps were heard but the brunette couldn't figure out what direction they were coming. It was the lone sound that echoed throughout the blanket of mist. After what felt like an eternity, two massive figures appeared in front of the small author.

Her whole body started to tremble, sweat gathering on her brow. She couldn't see their faces but the main thing was if April didn't do something, her life would cease to exist. "Please. I only wanted to go home. I can give you money, please, I won't tell a soul!" Tears flowed down her cheeks as she pleaded for her life.

A lump formed in her throat and prevented her from screaming as her eyes centered on the kunai knife that was in the masked stranger's hands. Tears were blinding her, her body paralyzed with fear. With her leg being so damaged, there was no chance to escape. These men were trained, they would probably make her death slow and painful. This was it. April was going to die. Effortlessly the ninja tossed the kunai, AJ closed her eyes but the weapon never hit her. Opening one eye, the brunette could see the weapon in front of her as the figures were looking elsewhere toward the sky almost. April wasn't sure because the mist was so thick. Did the guy miss? No. That's stupid. What could have possibly caused her life to be spared at this moment? Her eyes made out another shape that looked identical to the kunai, did this one block the other? "What? How did-" The masked man didn't have time to ask another question, as his lackey behind him gasped out.

The mist was starting to clear up which meant that it had to be a technique of these men, April's eyes were finally able to see her surroundings clearly once again. A loud gasp left her as the man in front of her turned around. There stood his lackey with a sword pierced through his chest, without hesitation it was pulled out and his body fell with a sicken thud. The little brunette's stomach was twisting in knots, her hands covered her mouth to prevent herself from vomiting. A new hooded figure stood there, flicking the blood of their sword as the bandit charged forward, drawing his own sword. "Oh my god.." Were the three words that left her trembling lips as she watched the two trained shinobi fight mere feet away from her. Her life was going to be determined by the outcome of this ordeal.

The mysterious hooded ninja was over a foot shorter than this massive man but their movements were so quick yet graceful. A grunt was heard from the brute as his sword was knocked to the side. He leapt backwards, throwing several ninja stars. With a smirk, he pressed his palms together. Suddenly three shuriken turned into a hundred all flying so fast that AJ could barely keep track of. The hooded ninja didn't seem phased by this development, the only sound that the brunette could hear was clashing metal. One by one every single ninja star was smacked into the ground, it was almost like this person was predicting where these weapons would be. That wasn't possible. "Let's see how you handle this tough guy!" The man snarled, his chest expanding before unleashing a stream of water that started to shape into a ferocious dragon. AJ had only seen certain techniques depicted in scrolls. Everything that water serpent touched was getting destroyed instantly as it roared and lunged forward toward the other people in its path. April swallowed hard, she still wasn't able to move. The other ninja appeared in front of her, their back to the brunette. With a sharp breath, the smaller ninja exhaled with a burning storm of fire that devoured the water serpent with ease. Steam surrounded the pair as a massive shadow appeared in front of them. One kick was enough to send him flying. AJ's savior threw several ninja stars however they never hit their target. Instead they landed beside him, his body was incapable of moving; those stars had wires to trap him. "Who exactly do you think you are!"

"La Reina.." It was a feminine voice that spoke two simple words but that wasn't a need for much more than that.

All color disappeared on what the brunette could see of this man's face, he was truly terrified. April had heard that name before during her travels, there was no way that this person would be someone like them, right? "There is no way." The hooded figure flipped the hood down but AJ couldn't see their face, only long blonde hair. "Those eyes.. There is no mistake about it, you are La Reina."

"That I am, little man. you couldn't touch me even if you tried. This is where it ends for you." Without another word spoken, flames traveled from the blonde's mouth on the wires and the fire made short work on the criminal. Both of the men that attempted to take the brunette's life had lost theirs instead. AJ felt a sense of relief flow through her, this stranger saved her life today. "Let me take a look at your leg. I don't have any techniques for healing but I should be able to save it from getting infected." For the very first time, the ninja known as La Reina turned to face the author and it was at that moment, April felt her heart skip a couple beats. Her cheeks were starting to heat up as she got a good look at her hero. Tanned skin, beautiful almost glowing red eyes and long, straight blonde hair that trailed down her back. A smirk that made the brunette tremble in her core.

La Reina walked over, crouching down to be face to face with AJ for the first time. She felt her heart skip a couple beats. This woman was beautiful to her, it was such a foreign concept to the shinobi. "T-thank you." The author said being shaky breaths while her eyes stayed focused on the kunai knife that was still embedded in her leg. "I know you are La Reina but what is your name so I can thank you properly."

The blonde gave her a curious look before beginning to search in her bag for some medical supplies. There should be a doctor in the closest village to the east, the wound would need to be patched up until helpfully being able to locate a healing specialist. "My name is Zelina Vega. Now that you know my name, tell me yours."

"April Mendez. Thank you Zelina, you really saved my ass." The brunette noticed Zelina giving her a warm smile, her eyes were no longer red but instead a dark brown. Those eyes had to be some special technique.

"I am happy that I was in the area, April. No thanks are needed, it's what I do." The blonde grabbed some ointment bandages, eager to patch this wound up. There were no signs of it being tainted with poison. Zelina was patient and made sure that everything was going to be okay. AJ was terrified but having this beautiful ninja helping her, it made all these worries go away. A few minutes of silence passed, the wound was now wrapped up; that should suffice until the brunette could get to a medic. "Do you think you will be able to stand?"

The blonde had so many questions about the slightly taller woman but decided she would wait to ask them. There was no way this woman was a ninja, so why in the hell was April traveling on her own? A beautiful lady like her shouldn't be traveling alone. "I can try." The brunette didn't want to burden La Reina anymore than she already had. All efforts were in vain as the pain caused her to stumble. She braced for impact but instead her eyes fluttered open to see Zelina inches away from her. "I-I, Thank you."

"Hold onto me." She instructed sweetly, April felt her legs being picked up and now she was bridal style in the blonde's arms. The brunette's cheeks were flush, her attention stayed toward the ground. "You aren't afraid of heights, are you?" AJ gave her an unsure shake of her head as those chocolate pools studied her reaction to the question. Zelina jumped into the air effortlessly with AJ in her arms. The shinobi landed on a tree branch and started leaping through the thick forest. "Relax. I won't let you fall." La Reina soothed, feeling the tightening grip of the brunette's arms wrapped around her neck. "Where are we handing? I am seeing you home and making sure all is well." The author explained her situation about wanting to rush home for the holidays and where her village was located. With assistance from Zelina, they will actually make it there ahead of schedule. Today seemed like a fairy tale, danger found the brunette and a beautiful knight in a black cloak saved her life. Maybe just maybe.. This will work out beautifully and AJ might need a new companion on her later travels.
