Genesis, standing before Marneus Calgar, looks from the Chapter Master to the sound of a man groaning in pain. He sees a Space Marine that had been bitten in half being cradled by one of his battle brothers. Genesis takes a step and is at his side in a slit second. The other Space Marine jumps in surprise and snaps up his Storm Bolter or tries to, but Genesis knocks it back down with a glancing blow of his finger.
"Do that again, and I won't be so nice, Consus," says Genesis in a warning tone that makes the Terminator-clad Space Marine freeze, "Now, back away."
Consus slowly stands and backs away, confused by how Genesis knows his name and by his reaction to the absolute authority in his voice. None of the other Ultramarines dare raise their weapons as Genesis kneels beside Titius Invicterius. The Space Marine is gargling up blood. Genesis produces a creation shard, places it into his nose, and watches as the green light engulfs him. The Ultramarines tense around him, but by this point, Genesis has already gently clamped down on their minds, keeping them in check easily. He does glance over at Celestine, the so-called Saint. She has bathed in the power of the Warp, but her faith in the Emperor's divinity is so absolute that none of the Chaos Gods can get their hooks into her. It is quite an impressive feat. She is the poster child for the bullshit taught by the Ecclesiarchy. He looks at her because he can feel her psyker abilities to try to probe his mind. When their eyes meet, he gives her a glimpse. Her eyes widen, and she would back away in fear or even fly off, but he locks her in place, too.
When the green light fades, Titius is there, whole and evolved. He is clad in the sleek blue armor of an Unshackled Ultramarine. Genesis offers him a hand and pulls him to his feet as if he weighs nothing. Titius bangs his fist against his chest plate, now baring the Golden Lemniscate of the New Imperium.
"My thanks, Lord First," says Titius, his mind cleared of his old indoctrination and filled with the First Truth as the Unshackled are calling their new creed, "I stand ready to serve and protect mankind and the New Imperium."
"The New Imperium," asks Marneus, his outrage overwhelming the mind clamp, "Titius, what kind of treachery are you speaking?"
"No treachery, Chapter Master," says Titius with complete confidence, "I have been given the First Truth. I now answer to the master of the New Imperium, Lord First. The father of the Emperor and creator of mankind. And so do they."
As if a signal is given a full chapter worth of Unshackled Ultramarines Firstborn and Primaris born alike. Among the number is the famed Captain of the 4th Company, Uriel Ventris. He and his Company were on the world Ophonin Gamma, putting down a planet-wide insurrection caused by the rise of the Genestealer Cult when a splinter of the Genesis Crusade arrived. The insurrection was put down within days by the Unshackled, and Uriel and the 4th were all evolved.
"Uriel," says Marneus in disbelief, "What is this? What has happened to all of you?"
"We have been given the First Truth," says Uriel, his black and gold eyes locked on the eyes of his Chapter Master, "We have been evolved and unshackled. We stand in the service of the New Imperium. Lord First, may we rid Macragge of this Chaos scum?"
"Yes, don't let any of them live," says Genesis, "Also, start getting rid of the priests."
They all bang their fists against their chest before they disappear as Sio sends them to where they are needed.
"No," screams Celestine, "I will not let you harm the servants of the God-Emperor."
She reaches out and calls the Ardent Blade, which survived the unmaking of the daemon, back to her hand. Marneus, in apparent agreement with her, attempts to drive his powered fist into Gensis's face. Genesis blocks the blow, which could have punched through the side of a Leman Russ tank with one hand. The force of the blow doesn't move him an inch, and the energy field does no damage. Genesis returns the blow but with only a fraction of his strength, not wanting to kill Marneus. The punch partially caves in the chest plate of this Terminator Armour, leaving an impression of Genesis's fist there as Marneus goes flying back. The rest of the Honour Guard attack Genesis, opening fire. Genesis moves faster than any of them can see, putting down every last one of them, damaging their Terminator Armour beyond repair without killing them in less than ten seconds.
Genesis stops and looks up to see Celestine coming down at him with her burning sword over her head. She brings it down in a mighty swing with all of her psychic might behind it. Genesis catches the blade, and the shockwave sounds like a blast of thunder. To force of the blow cracks and craters the ground under his feet. It is nowhere near as much damage as it should be because Genesis negates most of the force with a thought to protect the fallen Ultramarines. Celestine's eyes go wide in shock and then fear as Genesis grabs her by the throat. She reaches up and grabs his arm, trying to break his grip, but she may as well be trying to break the grip of a Titan. She may have had more luck. Genesis pulls her close, her attempts to fly away on her psychic wings flapping wildly with absolutely no effect.
"I understand your faith, and I respect your pure soul," says Genesis softly, "But I am afraid you are the symbol of a destructive lie that is keeping mankind from reaching its potential. So, I won't strip you of your faith, but I can't let you live. It will be painless."
"The Emperor protects," gasps Celestine.
"He was supposed to, child," says Genesis with a hint of sadness, "He failed."
Genesis blasts her from existence with a thought. She is turned to shining ash before it vanishes. Genesis still holds her flaming sword by the blade. He flips it into the air and catches it by the hilt. The blade is perfectly balanced. He runs a bit of his power through it, and it turns golden with a black flame along the blade. The Unshackled recently asked for weapon options that won't use creation energy that they can use when they want to prolong a fight and play with their food. He granted them those. This one will be his. He clamps the power blade to his back across his black katana.
He takes a look around and sees that all the Ultramarines are still down except for Marneus Calgar, who is struggling up. He walks over to the Chapter Master as he makes it to his feet. Marneus raises his power fist and fires several rounds at Genesis point blank. Genesis bats them all away with lazy waves of his hand, sending several into the leg joints of Marneus's Terminator Armour with the accuracy of a sniper. The shooting stops with Merneus falling to his knees, no longer able to stand, and Genesis reaches up and up and yanks off his helm. The pain and anger on his face is obvious. He would continue fighting, but the clamp was back on his mind, and he couldn't break this with all the rage in the galaxy. Genesis sends a shard into his nose, and his eyes go wide before the evolution begins. He stands back and lets the change happen while he listens to the sounds of the new war going on all over Macragge and above it. He chuckles as he hears the roars of rage from the Warp.
"Don't worry," says Genesis with a smile, "I will be visiting you too. Be patient."
