" We're dead. All of us, because of you two." Andrea said as she glared at us, which was getting on my last nerves, that I wanted to punch her in her face.
" I don't understand." Rick said as I placed my crossbow on my shoulder as I was looking the area a little bit as the hispanic man which I found out what his name was, Morales walked over to Rick and led him through the department store while I followed right behind him while I was keeping my eyes on Andrea, cause I really don't trust her after the stunt that she pulled.
" Look, we came into the city to scavenge supplies. You know what the key to scavenging is? Surviving. You know the key to surviving? Sneaking in and out, tiptoeing. Not shooting up the streets like it's the ok corral." Morales said as he looked at both of us.
We all gathered in the front of the store, where dozens of walkers were pounding on the glass doors.
" Every geek for miles heard you poppin' off rounds." Another man that I found out his name was T-Dog said as he looked over at Rick but then after that everyone introduced themselves to us.
" You just rang the dinner bell." Andrea said as she was looking towards the door as me and Rick looked at the door.
" Get the picture now." Morales said as I looked at the door felt bad for the people here and scared of how many walkers were at the glass door. The glass on the door started to crack, as the walker pounded on the glass door relentlessly, " Oh god." Andrea gasped as the others started to go all to the back of the store while I started to back up, and I pulled out my crossbow and I pointed at the doors, ready if any of them broke completely through.
" What the hell were you two doing out there anyway?" Andrea asked both Rick and then me.
" I was trying to get supplies for myself, before I ran into Rick." I said as I had my focus on the door.
" Trying to flag the helicopter." Rick said as he was looking at the others and then she looked over at me waiting for an answer from me.
I kept my eyes on the doors while I heard everyone arguing. I turned my head to look over at them to say something til we all heard a shot echoed throughout the building and it came from the rooftop, " Oh god, was that Dixon?" Andrea questioned as everyone started to follow her to the stairs to the roof and Rick followed right behind them, with me making my way behind them.
As we got to the roof, we spotted a man perched on the edge with a rifle and fired down onto the street, " Hey Dixon, are you crazy!?" Morales yelled at Dixon who turned to look at him and started to laugh at him.
" Hey, you ought to be polite to a man with a gun huh? Only common sense." Dixon smiled and hopped off the ledge and walked over to us with the gun in his hand.
As I was watching him, I was standing right next Rick and for some reason I didn't like the look he had in his eyes which made me feel uncomfortable with what was going on right now.
" Man, you're wasting bullets we don't even get man, and you're bringing more of them down out ass! Man just chill." T-Dog said as he got down from the platform and got in Dixon's face.
" Hey! Bad enough I've got this taco-blender only ass all day. Now I'm gonna take orders from you? I don't think so bro, that'll be the day." Dixon said as he looked at T-dog.
" That'll be the day? You got something you want to tell me?" T-Dog asked me with a sigh and I started to shake my head, cause I knew where this was going to go and this was going to be very bad.
I heard everyone telling T-Dog to leave it alone and ask the man that I found out his name, but I could see that things were starting to get very bad really quickly, " You want to know the day? Well I'll tell you the day Mr " Yo", it's the day I take orders from a nigg-" Merle said as a fight broke out.
T-Dog got very mad and took a swing at Merle who dodged and hit T-Dog with the butt of the rifle in the jaw. Merle started to pound T-Dog in the face while everyone pleaded him to stop, Rick tried to stop him but Merle punched him in the face, which pissed me off and I went over towards him and punched him in the face once and he came at me and tried to hit me while Rick backed away to collect himself. I looked over at him to see if he was okay, he was but then that was the worst mistake in my life. Cause when I looked back at Merle he swiped my leg and I fell on the ground really hard and my crossbow fell off my shoulder and before I could get up, he placed his knee on my neck and then pointed my crossbow at my head as I was struggling to get up but I stopped.
Then he looked at the others who stayed where they were, " Yeah! Alright! We're gonna have ourselves a little powwow. Now let's talk about who's in charge. I vote for me and if none of you don't vote for me then this girl will get an arrow in her head. Democracy time y'all, show of hands, all in favor? Come on." Merle said as he was looking at the others as I tried to remove his knee off my neck but he pressed harder which made it harder to breath.
I looked over at everyone and they started to raise their hands as my crossbow was pointed at them but then he turned his attention towards me which made me stop moving as I looked straight in his eyes with my crossbow pointed right back at me, " So what do you say girly. Are you going to vote or am I going to shoot you in the head with your own weapon?" Merle asked as he looked at me, which I wasn't going to raise my hand to vote for him.
It started to piss him off but he just let it go and looked back up at the others, " Now that means I'm the boss right? Anybody else? Hmm? Anybody?" Merle asked as he was looking back between me and the others.
I noticed that someone was coming up behind him and it was Rick, " Yeah," Rick said sarcastically as Merle turned slightly to get hit with a rifle in the back of the head and Merle fell over and once he fell over, his knee came off my neck and I took a deep breath and rolled over to my side as I rubbed my neck trying to catch my breath. I looked over to see Rick drag Merle over to a pipe and pulled out his handcuffs from the back of his pocket, and he cuffed Merle to it.
" Who the hell are you, man?!" Merle yelled as he looked at Rick.
" Officer friendly." Rick said as he got closer to Merle's face, then let go of him and then he went over to me and help me sit up and checked to see if I was okay, which I nodded my head letting him know that I was alright, then he got back up on his feet and looked at Merle.
" Look here Merle. Things are different now. There are no niggers anymore. No dumb-ass-shit inbred white trash fools either. Only dark meat and white meat. There's us and the dead, we survive this by pulling together, not apart." Rick said as he looked at everyone and then turned to me and offered his hand to me and it took it and he pulled me up to my feet, then I went over to where my crossbow was at and picked it up, as I turned my head to look at Merle and glared at him before walking back over to Rick.
" Screw you, man." Merle chuckled making Rick get back down at his level and looked at him, while I had my crossbow in my hands, ready for anything that he would try to do.
" It looks like you have made it a habit of missing the point. Plus, I think you should be nice to a lady with a weapon, only common sense. " I said as I was looking at Merle with my crossbow in my hands with a smirk on my face.
" Screw you and your cop friend. Ain't you a cop?" Merle said as he looked at Rick.
" All I am anymore, is a man looking for his wife and son and Sam is a girl trying to survive, but now she doesn't have to worry about that now. Anybody that gets in the way of that is gonna lose. I'll give you a moment to think about that." Rick said as he started to search Merle's pockets, and then pulled out a vial of drugs.
" Got some on your nose there." Rick said as he flicked Merle's nose and got back up on his feet and walked over to me with the drugs in his hands.
" What are you gonna do, Arrest me?" Merle asked as he was laughing till he saw Rick walk over to the edge of the roof and tossed the drugs, " Hey, what are you doing, that's my stuff! Hey!" Merle yelled as he tried to stop Rick but the handcuffs stopped him from getting anywhere.
We were running out of time, the walkers had already broken through one of the glass doors and we had tried the sewers to see if that was away for us to escape but that was blocked off as well by the walkers. For a while there it looked like we were going to be stuck here for a while til Rick came up with a plan that I was going to hate later.
" I just want to really tell this now Rick, that this is the most stupid and crazies idea you have ever come up with." I said as Andrea was starting to wrap intestines around my shoulder.
" Do we smell like them?" Rick asked as he looked at the others as his nose scrunched up in disgust.
" Oh yeah." Andrea said as she nodded her head and walked over and gave Glenn her gun, just in case something happened while we were out there with the walkers.
Me, Rick and Glenn stood there covered in walker blood and all manner of rotting bodily fluids, in an attempt to disguise our smell to trick the walkers into not noticing us. I knew this was a risky move, but this was the only option that we had at the moment, " If we make it back. Be ready." Rick said as he looked at the others and they nodded their heads to us.
" What about Merle Dixon?" T-Dog asked as he looked over at Rick. Rick looked over at me and pulled out the key in his pocket and handed it to me and I tossed them over to T-Dog.
" It's your call." I said as I nodded my head to him and he nodded his head back towards me.
" Gimme the axe." Rick asked as Morales walked over and handed him the axe, " We need more guts." Rick says as he swung down on a walker that the others grabbed from the alleyway.
Slowly but surely the three of us shuffled our way into the alleyway, where there were just two walkers. As we made it to the bus that was in front of the alley, Rick had the ax, Glenn had a crowbar while I had my machete at the ready and if anything goes wrong I have my crossbow on me, which was underneath my bloody soaked coat.
We started to crawl underneath the bus to the other side of the bus that was filled with a lot of walkers on the main road. My heart was beating so fast that I was starting to worry that the walkers would hear it. We got up to our feet and we started to head towards the area where we saw the trucks was at, I couldn't believe that this was working, the walkers weren't even reacting to us at all, it was like we was invisible.
" It's working. I can't believe it." Glenn whispered under his breath as he looked between me and Rick.
" You're telling me. I'm shocked as well." I whispered back as I looked around with my eyes before landing on Rick who looked over at us.
" Don't draw attention." Rick whispered back to us as we passed a few walkers, as we were getting closer to the trucks, which was making me feel with relief.
But then it started to rain all around us and that started to make me nervous, it was falling down really heavily and I noticed that some of the walkers was starting to look at us, that made me start panic just a little bit inside and Glenn seemed to notice my reaction and looked over at Rick, " The smell is washing off, isn't it?" Glenn asked Rick.
As the walkers started to come closer to us and started to smell us, I looked over at Rick," Rick?" I asked under my breath as I tightened my grip on my machete as I kept looking around me.
As Rick was trying to keep Glenn calm as best as he could til one of the walker's lunged at us and Rick turned and slams the ax into the walker's skull and that was enough to draw attention from the rest of the other walker's and they started to coming at us.
" Run!" Rick yelled and we started to run. I pulled off the coat and I grabbed my crossbow and I shot at any of the walkers that came towards us as we ran to the construction van that was in front of us. As we were getting closer to the fence, Rick and Glenn took off their bloody coats and they both climbed over a fence while I was covering for them.
" Samantha, let's go!" Rick yelled as he looked over at me and I placed my crossbow on my back and I climbed over the fence. Once I landed back on my feet, I looked over my shoulder to the fence to see the walkers slam into it while a few of them were trying in climb it.
" Rick, Glenn get to the van, I'll be right behind you!" I said as I pulled out my crossbow again and started to show at the walkers off the fence.
" But, I'm not going to leave you here!" I heard Rick yell at me as I kept shooting the walkers.
" Just go Rick! I promise I'll be careful!" I said as I continued to shoot at the walkers. It took a few minutes I heard him leave and I was happy that he trusted me enough to help til the fence gave way and the walker's started to come over and towards me and the fear that I had earlier came back til I heard something pull up right behind me.
" Get in!" Glenn yelled as Rick opened the door for me to the van to get in. I ran over and jumped in as fast as I could while Rick shut the door and sped off away from the walker's
" God oh god, they're all over the place!" Glenn yelled while Rick was driving away with me in the middle of them and I noticed that Rick was driving away from the department store.
" Rick, why are you driving away from the store, that is where the others are at?" I asked Rick as I saw the others on top of the roof, watching us drive away.
" Glenn, you need to draw them away from the store. Those roll up doors that are on the side of the store, that's the area that I need cleared." Rick told both me and Glenn the plan. Rick looked over at Glenn, " Raise your friends, tell them to get to that door." Rick said to Glenn. Glenn pulls out the radio and starts to talk to the others letting them know what to do. Glenn puts the radio back in his pocket.
" I'm drawing the walker's away, how? I...I missed that part of the plan?" Glenn stuttered as he looked between Rick and then me.
" Noise." I said as I looked over at Rick, then I saw something on the right and I pointed out towards the thing that would be perfect for the job and he nodded his head.
Rick stopped the van and I grabbed Glenn's crowbar and I opened the door of the van and walked over to a Red Dodge Challenger and I broke the window on the driver side and the car alarm went off. I opened the door and climbed in and I rigged the ignition.
Glenn got in the car along with me getting in the passenger side and then Glenn started to drive the car past Rick with him in the van with the car alarm blaring.
Glenn got to where the walkers were, which gave Rick the chance to go to the roll up doors and save the others. As the others were getting in the van, while me and Glenn drove away keeping the walkers on us as I noticed that Rick and the others were getting out of the city, we followed right behind them. As we were leaving the city and following right behind Rick, I looked over to see that Glenn had a smile on his face and he started to speed up past the van, " Whoohoo!" He yells. I was very happy to survive and I was able to save some people and also I was able to see Rick again after all these years.
