I woke up the next day to feel a strong sting on my stomach caused by my wound, that reminded me of yesterday, but that wasn't the only thing that was a reminder. I blinked my eyes a couple of times at what I saw in front of me.
Daryl was still holding me as he was sleeping and when I moved in the slightest Daryl tightened his grip around me, which made it even harder to get out of his grip.
My breathing seemed to have gotten stronger and faster as I looked at his face that was right in front of me, I had no idea of what to do and couldn't really move at all. I tried to move without waking him again, but I failed in not waking him up. I looked back up to see his blue eyes looking right at me and for a few seconds we just stared right at each other, it gave us enough time for us to prose how close we were.
I tried to get out of bed along with getting out of his grip, but the next thing I knew was that my body hits the floor and I groan in pain as I tried to sit up and I looked back over at Daryl, " What the fuck, man?" I asked as I looked at him once I got to my feet. Daryl's back was facing me avoiding my gaze while pulling the cover up further on himself.
I shook my head and I turned to leave the room and went outside without a second thought as my blood was boiling in my veins. I stopped on the porch and started to look around til my eyes landed on Carl who was feeding baby chicks, with Lori right next to him, brought a smile to my face completely forgetting what I was mad at and I walked over to them.
Once I got closer to them, Carl turned his head to see me and a bright smile came on his face and he got up and ran over to me and grabbed my hand and pulled me over to the little chicks and placed some food in my hand from the bucket that was right next to him. I could feel Lori looking over at me, which made Carl look over at her, " Sam's fine mom. You don't have to worry." He said as he gave her a small smile.
" That's just it, it's my job." Lori said as she looked back at me and gave me a small smile, which I gave her right back.
" No it's not, you're a housewife." Carl said with a small smirk on his face as both me and Lori looked at him and then I saw Lori grab some chicken feed and threw some at him, with a small smile on her face.
" Do you see my house anywhere little man, huh?" Lori asked with a smile still on her face as Carl looked over at me with a smile on his face which made me ruffle his hair a little bit while I grabbed more feed and started to feed the chicks again.
I looked up to see Patricia inside the chicken coop placing a bucket down on the ground and looked over at us. I waved at her and she just nodded her head to me and then went back to what she was doing, " They don't have a mother." Carl said which made me look back at the chick's to notice that there wasn't no hen anywhere.
" She might be somewhere else, right now hunny." Lori said as she looked up looking around for the hen. As both Carl and Lori continued to feed the chicks so I got up and whipped the dirt off my pants and tapped Carl's shoulder and he looked at me and I pointed towards the RV and he nodded his head to me.
As I was halfway to the RV I saw both Rick and T-Dog helping Daryl over to his tent which then reminded me that I was very mad at him for what he did to me minutes ago. I shook my head from side to side and I looked back to see Rick and Shane heading over to the car where Beth and her boyfriend Jimmy who seemed to be waiting on them. I noticed that Shane would look over at me and have a smirk on his face and send a shiver down my spine and I walked quickly towards the RV. When I got the RV I saw Dale and T-Dog trying to stay in the shade away from the sun. They looked over when they noticed me and gave me a smile as I smiled back at them.
" How are you feeling today?" Dale asked me as he looked at me while crossing his arms.
" Not dead, if that's what you're asking." I said as I noticed movement to the right of me and I turned my head to see Glenn coming over to us with a box in his hands. As he got closer I smiled at him and he smiled at me. I noticed that his smile was off, which made me wonder what was going on with him.
" Here's some peaches." Glenn said as Dale took one from him and thanked him and then he came over to me and I took one as well, right as Andrea was coming out of the RV and said 'morning' to us and I just looked away from her. I was still holding a grudge against her after what she almost did to Daryl and I just shook my head and took a big bit out of the peach that I was holding in my hands.
I knew that Andrea was just protecting the group as she keeps saying but she just shot someone, so yeah I was still bitter about what she did and I looked over at her to notice that she had a book in her hand and I was curious on where she was going with the book. I started to follow her in the same direction which was where Daryl's tent was and I stopped in my tracks, I knew that he'd probably heard another set of footsteps and knew that someone else was eavesdropping but at the moment I didn't care as I leaned against the tree and looking out towards the woods. I was hearing Andrea saying sorry for shooting him and Daryl forgave her and just as she was about to leave, " But hey, shoot me again, and you'd best pray I'm dead." I heard Daryl say to her as she looked back inside the tent, which made me think that he was laying down. I looked at Andrea as her eyes landed on me and we stared at each other for a while.
Andrea tried to nod her head to me, but I looked away and headed towards the car towards the others and I looked to the left and noticed that both Lori and Glenn were engaged in a very serious talk and shared a brief hug before Shane called Glenn over. As I got to the car Rick came over to me and hugged me and then placed his arm on top of my shoulders and gave me a gentle squeeze before getting back to the discussion.
" The creek flows south, past that farmhouse Daryl found." Rick said as he looked at the map on top of the hood of the car.
" Maybe Sophia dropped the doll there, the current brought it downstream." Rick said as he looked back up at the others.
" So what, you think she took this road here and then she went north?" Shane asked Rick as he looked at the map and then back up at Rick and then gave me a quick glance before looking back at Rick.
" Yeah, what's up that way?" Rick asked Jimmy.
" A housing development. It went on maybe 10 years ago." Jimmy answered, resting his head on top of his hand.
" Take a run up there after gun practice. I'll hold down the fort here, but take backup. After what went down with Daryl," Rick stopped talking for a little bit and looked at Shane and then back at me before he continued talking, " I don't want anyone going out alone, we stay in pairs." Rick said as he pulled me closer to him.
" There's gonna be gun practice?" I asked as I looked over at Rick and from the corner of my eye I saw Shane nodded his head to my question.
" Yeah, you wanna go? I'll even teach you a few things, if you want." Shane said as he looked at me and shiver went down my spine when I remembered what he tried to do when he was in my room and I shook my head no.
" I think I might pass on this one and I'll go check out the horses in the stable." I said quickly and I felt Rick's eyes on me and then both of them nodded their heads to me and then Shane looked back at Rick.
" That pair thing, I'll take suggestions on a partner." Shane said as Glenn had the basket of peaches still in his hands and everyone else except for me took one out and started to take bites out of it.
" See how they do on range, then take your pick." Rick said as he took a bit from his peach. I looked over at Glenn and noticed that he was standing there being very quiet while everyone was eating their peaches and I looked back at Lori who was by the trees and noticed that she was looking at him which made me even more suspicious that something was going on with her and one way or another I was going to find out what was going on.
" My binoculars." Shane said as he looked over at Glenn who nodded his head and placed the peaches down on the ground and took it off his shoulders and handed them to Shane before leaving muttering just a small 'bye' as he turned to leave.
" We'd like to join you for gun training today." Beth said as both her and her boyfriend came over to us.
" Hershel's been very clear. I can't involve any of you in what we do without his help." Rick said as he was looking at the both of them.
" He doesn't like it, but he consented." Beth said as she looked at both me and Rick.
" Otis was the only one who knew guns, now that he's gone, we gotta learn how to protect ourselves. Her father saw the sense in that." Patricia said as she looked at us.
" No offense, but I'll ask Hershel myself." Rick said as he nodded his head to them as I looked over at Shane who was looking at me from a far distance. I kept my eyes on him when I saw him walk over to Carl who was in the RV and I was wondering what they were talking as they disappeared behind the RV and I decided to go over to the stable.
After a while at being at the stable and petting the horses that was in there, I went back to the others and I heard Lori saying that Carl had a gun and I walked over Rick, Dale, Lori, Shane and Carl who was sitting down on a bench while Lori was holding onto the gun that Carl had in his possession.
" How the hell did this happen?" Lori asked while she was placing the gun in her back pocket of her blue jeans.
" Well, it's my fault. I let him into the RV. He said he wanted a walkie, that you sent him for one." Dale said as he looked over at Lori.
" So on top of everything else, he lied." Lori said as she shook her head in disbelief and then she looked over at Rick.
" What's he thinking?" Lori asked as she looked at him waiting for an answer from him.
" He wants to learn how to shoot. He asked me to teach him. Now it's none of my business, but I'm happy to do it, it's your call." Shane spoke up as he looked at them.
" I'm not comfortable with it, oh don't make me out to be the unreasonable one here, Rick?" Lori said as she looked at us while we looked at her.
" I know, I have my concerns too, but-" Rick started to say but was interrupted by Lori.
" There's no but. Sam was just shot and it could've been him instead of her and now he wants a gun?" Lori said which made me want to say something to her when she mentioned my name but I held my tongue back as Rick noticed the look on my face and placed a hand on my shoulder to stop me.
" It's better than him being afraid of 'em. There are guns in camp for a reason, he should learn to handle them safely." Rick tried to reason with Lori.
" I don't want my kid walking around with a gun, I'm still not with Sam having one after what happened to her." Lori said as she looked over at me and all I did was shrug my shoulders at her as she looked back at Rick waiting for him to answer from him.
" The thing is Lori is that you can't let Carl go around without protection and Sam is a grown adult and she can do what she wants, but at the same time she doesn't even use a gun, she uses her crossbow and she needs to protect herself as well." Rick said.
" He's as safe as he'll ever be right here. Look, everything you're saying makes perfect sense, it feels wrong. I mean I didn't feel good about him going with you out into the woods and I wished that I'd said something and then Sam wouldn't have gone with ya'll and she wouldn't have gotten hurt." Lori said as she looked at Rick and then back at me.
" Lori look, Carl is growing up and if I hadn't gone, Carl would have gotten hurt and I would have felt worse not protecting my brother." I said as I made both Lori and Rick look over at me and then looked back at Carl who was still sitting down.
" We've got to start treating him more like an adult." Rick said as he agreed with what I said but Lori still looked uncertain about everything that was said.
" Then he needs to act like one, he's not mature enough to handle a gun." Lori said as she turned her head and looks over at Carl who got up and turned to his mother.
" I'm not gonna play with it, mom. It's not a toy. I'm sorry I disappointed you, but I want to look for Sophia and I want to defend our camp. I want to be able to protect Sam like how she did for me and I can't do that without a gun." Carl said as he walked over to us and I nodded my head and smiled at him and walked over to him and placed my hand on his shoulder.
" Don't worry Lori, he's going to be fine I promise." I said as I looked at her.
" Shane's the best instructor I Know. I've seen him teach kids younger than Carl." Rick said as he looked at Lori and then back at me and Carl.
" You will take this seriously and you will behave responsibly and if I hear from anyone in this camp that you're not living up to our expectations-" Lori said as she came over to him and made him look at her and he nodded his head to her.
" He won't let you down." Rick said in a reassuring tone as I nodded my head to agree with him and Carl nodded his head as well. As everything was settled, everyone started to get ready to leave for shooting practice and Carl was now happy that he was to be able to help out, Carl followed Rick towards the driveway to the car and I followed right behind them. I listened to Rick tell Carl about how he needed to listen to what Shane said the whole time and Carl nodded his head and had a tiny excitement in his blue eyes.
" Are you coming?" Shane asked Glenn who was right beside him.
" I gotta help Dale clean the spark plugs on the RV, he said he's gonna teach me mechanics. I should probably go look for him." Glenn said and I noticed that Dale was right behind me this whole time.
" You found me." Dale said, making Glenn jump and turned his head to look at Dale and Glenn went toward the RV.
" He's a good learner." Dale said as he followed after Glenn. Everyone got inside the cars but my eyesight was still on Glenn as Dale was going over him with a confused look on his face.
I went over to the RV and I went inside and I grabbed a book that caught my attention long ago and I let go lay against a tree and started to read the book. As I was reading the book I felt a pair of eyes on me again and I knew who they belonged to and I just ignored him as I continued to read.
I don't even know how long I've been reading but what I know is that I heard cars driving back and I lowered the book to see everyone getting out of the cars and I got up and walked over to the RV, " Sam!" Carl said as he ran towards me.
" I shot all the cans, every single one of them!" Carl said as he got over to me and I smiled at him.
" I'm very proud of you, Carl." I said as I placed my hand on top of his head and gave him a big smile.
" So it went really well?" I asked him as he nodded his head to me.
" It did, at first I couldn't really do it because it was too heavy but then dad changed the gun that I had and it went really well after that." Carl said really quickly and excitedly. Carl kept going on and on about every detail that happened and I just nodded my head to everything he was saying.
As time went on everyone went on doing whatever they were doing before and I noticed that Glenn and Lori were standing together and she hugged him and it made me wonder what was going on between them but it was none of my business and I continued on with my day. Then he left Lori to follow Maggie to leave town to get things.
After a while I noticed that Maggie and Glenn had returned and she was walking fast towards Lori with Glenn following right behind her trying to calm her down, something told me that something happened at the pharmacy. She opened the gate and closed it violently behind her.
" We got your stuff." Maggie said harshly as she walked towards Lori.
" Maggie, hang on, please." Glenn tried to calm Maggie down and Lori looked at her.
" Come on, over here." Lori said, trying to lead them into the tent, but Maggie wasn't having it.
" Why? Got nothin' to hide! Got your special delivery right here, we got your lotion, that's your conditioner, your soap opera Digest." Maggie said as she tossed everything on the ground.
" Maggie." Lori said calmly, trying to have an understanding on what was going on.
" Next time you want something, get it your damn self, we ain't your errand boys!" Maggie screamed in Lori's face.
" Honey, I-" Lori started before she looked down to the ground to one of the boxes that was on the ground and Maggie picked it up and tossed it into Lori's chest.
" And here's your abortion pills." Maggie said as she turned to leave with Glenn following right behind her.
Lori looked around till her eyes landed on me and noticed that I had a shocked look on my face. She just shook her head and walked in the other direction, ' Lori's pregnant? Is that why she has been acting weird as of late. But who could be the father? I know it couldn't be Rick so-' I thought as I turned my head to look towards Shane who was looking right at me and I turned my head away from him quickly.
' Oh shit. Shane's the father. Oh fuck.' I thought as I got up and walked away to walk around the farm.
Not long after that fight with Lori and Maggie there was another fight between Rick and Lori and I didn't want to hear anymore and I had to get away from it all. I started to walk towards an area that I didn't want to go to but I couldn't stop myself. I got to the tent, I opened the tent flap and saw Daryl laying down and was playing with his bandana til he turned his head to look at me.
" Would you care if I came inside?" I asked him even though I knew I wasn't going to get an answer from him. So I just got inside and I sat down right next to him.
" I know that you are trying to ignore me and I don't care if you ever talk to me ever again, but silence seems like a great idea right about now." I said as I looked at him till I laid down on the ground with my back turned to him. As I said there on the ground I thought something touched my back lightly and I turned to look at Daryl to notice that he had his back turned towards me and I laid back down and I closed my eyes trying to forget all the yelling that happened today.
