THE BLOCKHEAD SNAPS
"Well, This is just great"
Violet glared at her allies, as they sat outside her house. They had gone there immediately after the game, Lucy and Patty sitting on a bench next to her.
"Did not one, not one of you, realise that Black wasn't trustworthy".
"Not really no" Patty said.
Violet glared disapprovingly at her,
"At least I for one, thought he was too good to be true" she bragged.
"Well Violet, maybe then think A LITTLE LOUDER" Lucy suddenly responded.
That got everyone's attention towards her. Lucy still looked sour about the game, and had been moping ever since.
"Should point out that you weren't exactly distrusting him yourself Lucy" Freddie explained, himself upset over being framed by Maddison.
"Yeah whatever. I was too busy to notice him wrecking the plot" she snapped back, pouting.
But now Violet was facing her, arms crossed, "He's not wrong. Our plot, our clique, it was nearly destroyed. And by your arrogance".
"It's them who are at fault".
"You gave them the perfect opportunity".
"An opportunity where they failed" Lucy reasoned, "Both Black and Charlie Brown lost".
"And how long till they return for revenge?" Violet questioned, "Lucy, we need to beat them to it".
Her message was clear. Stop throwing a tantrum, and fix your mistake.
"Okay" Lucy responded "Well Black…".
"I don't mean revenge on Kingmaker".
Lucy looked surprised, "What about Charlie Brown?".
"Nor him" Violet lectured, "Think Lucy, who backed the horse, who's supported Charlie Brown to succeed, on who's behalf did Kingmaker strike?".
Lucy then realised what she was indicating.
"Linus" she said, her tone mostly bitter, "you want payback on Linus".
"Do the right thing for us" Violet asked. "Make sure your chatty brother, learns never to speak out against us again".
They all looked around, curious and concerned looks on there faces.
Finally, Lucy replaced her moping, with a look of resolve.
"Well" she roared "FIND MY BROTHER, NOW".
Charlie Brown had never liked losing, experience didn't change that. Every time he took it badly, and sunk into a sad, depressed self.
Every time, but now.
Now that he'd failed for the last time, there wasn't a hint of sadness in him. No, this was anger, an anger that had built up throughout a fortnight of confusion, criticism and conflict.
Standing in the locker rooms, Linus, his best friend, saw Charlie Brown's eyes change from a depressed look, into something else. He knew something was wrong.
"So, on a scale of one to ten, how bad do you think this game went".
Linus didn't have a response, and Charlie Brown continued.
"I knew this wasn't going to work, I-I told you I was a failure".
"This doesn't mean you're a failure, Charlie Brown" Linus explained "It's not your fault".
Charlie Brown stared firmly at his best friend as he put a hand to his chin.
"There's a passage I have that you'll want to…"
And then it happened, Charlie Browns depression finally snapped into a fit of anger.
"CAN YOU DROP YOUR IDEAS FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE" he exploded at Linus, "LOOK WHAT HAPPENED, YOU BLOCKHEAD. I FAILED".
Linus stared, surprised.
"O-okay" he slowly tried to approach him, "maybe you should calm down, have a rest…".
"Oh you'd just LOVE for me to stop this, wouldn't you" Charlie put a thumb near his mouth.
"Oh It'll be alright Charlie Brown" he mocked Linus "Life is great Charlie Brown. You'll win someday Charlie Brown."
"NO" he said loudly, "I DIDN'T WIN, SO WAKE UP FROM YOUR FANTASY WORLD, OKAY".
At that sentence, Linus went pale. This wasn't Charlie Brown, it was like….….…like he was actually possessed by malice and rage. He tried to appeal to the older boy.
"Charlie…you're-you're being just like a…bully".
"Am I?" Charlie Brown sighed "Well, maybe it's my turn for once".
"B-b-but".
"And" he yelled at him "you couldn't even realise Black was a lying bully. You kept on encouraging worthless me, like the naive insecure weirdo you are. MAYBE you're the problem.
"I was only trying to help you" Linus squeaked.
"I DON'T NEED YOUR HELP, I DON'T WANT YOUR HELP".
Linus lip was trembling, he hadn't believed this would happen. He felt moisture sting on his eyes, "C-Charlie I".
"Let me make this clear" Charlie Brown got face to face with Linus.
"Your help isn't good enough. Your wisdom isn't good enough. Your friendship isn't good enough. YOU'RE NOT GOOD ENOUGH".
Charlie Brown stopped yelling, as Linus began trembling, shocked and hurt, "I-I think I" he whimpered "I need…my blanket".
An amount of sorrow passed through Charlie Brown, but his rage wasn't going to go away.
"I am through with babysitting you. Goodbye, Linus".
He left Linus alone, walking off.
The younger boy knew what that goodbye meant. Charlie Brown was leaving him.
They had both failed, and perhaps this time, indefinitely.
Linus sat on a bench, shuddering and breathing heavily. There wasn't a word of wisdom he could bring up for himself in this moment.
He curled his head into his hands, and began sobbing.
Things have definitely taken a turn for the worse.
Im sorry for taking Charlie OOC here. He can only tolerate losing so much, and I wanted to try focus/exaggerate on that.
But there's still a chance for atonement. Stay tuned
