After the Battle with Visquez Ash was about to leave Vermillion City and head back to Pallet Town however before he headed back he stood upon an area where it overlooked both the city and the port and was taken back by the view, then a flock of Pidgeot and Pidgeotto then flew by "wow this is awesome, you know I should get a picture of this" he grabs his phone out and takes a selfie of himself in front of the view and the flock of Pokémon. After becoming satisfied with the picture, the phone then started chiming and announced, "a Battle Challenge has been issued" Ash realised someone had challenged him to a World Coronation Series battle so he looked around to see a green haired trainer with a trench coat also holding his phone out while looking at him the phone then asked, "do you wish to accept it or reject it" and of course Ash's immediate response was "of course I'll accept". Just then a drone came down and announced, "welcome you have been approved for an official Pokémon World Coronation Series Normal Class battle" Ash then introduced himself "I'm Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town" and then the trainer introduced himself as well "I'm Oliver and I come from Goldenrod City in Johto", the drone then announced "for today's battle each of you have the use of one Pokémon" it then creates a scoreboard hologram and explains the rules "the winner will be determined when their opponent's Pokémon is unable to battle I will oversee the battle as official referee so will both challengers please bring out your Pokémon thank you, 3…2…1…go". Ash throws his poke-ball and sends out Totodile while Oliver sends out Meganium in which Oliver then comments "too bad Water Type moves aren't very effective against Grass Pokémon" but Ash remarks "you'll see I'm not losing".
Meganium first strikes with Razor Leaf but Totodile tries to defend with Water Gun which manages to work however Meganium then comes in with a Body Slam but Totodile manages to doge it, but Meganium attempts to use multiple Body Slams while Totodile still doges them but then uses Headbutt which knocks it off balance a little. Meganium then bombarded Totodile with Razorleaf but in retaliation Totodile uses Water Gun but it unfortunately didn't do much so Meganium charged up a Solar Beam, but before it could hit Totodile tried to attack with Bite however before reach him Meganium fired off it's Solar Beam and sent Totodile flying and causing him to hit the ground hard. Ash got worried about him "Totodile are you okay" Totodile slowly got up and bellowed out a growl in which it's body started glowing blue "could it be" Ash says, "no way" Oliver retorted, as it glowed it then started to grow a little bigger and then when it had stopped it showed that it had evolved into a Croconaw, "it evolved into a Croconaw". Ash says happily but Oliver wasn't going to let this change anything "evolved or not I'm still winning this" he ordered Meganium to charge in with Body Slam but out of the blue Croconaw jumped right at Meganium and then used grabbed onto it and used Ice Fang which freezes Meganium in a chunk of ice which surprises Ash "woah that's Ice Fang". When Croconaw let go the ice chunk then broke apart which Meganium then being knocked out, the drone then announces "Meganium is unable to battle so Croconaw is the winner which means the victory goes to Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town" Ash was so happy about the win and evolution he hugged Croconaw who then started biting on his head, the drone then announced, "as a result of today's battle there has been a change in the Trainer rankings".
Oliver puts Meganium back in its poke-ball "you were amazing now take a good rest" Ash then offers his hand out and then Oliver shakes it proudly "that was a good battle Ash but next time I'm not gonna lose" and Ash replies "me neither". After Oliver leaves Ash's phone starts to alert him of his new ranking which now shows he's now in 1512th place "oh yeah up in one shot, one more step closer to the Master Class and then to battling Leon and then to becoming a Pokémon Master".
Two days later Ash got word of a trainer in Fuschia City who was also enter int World Coronation Series, so he boarded a train to get there and soon enough he arrived at the Fushia City train station "alright next battle here I come". Once he got off the train and left the station he had a look around for the trainer at the centre of town near the large Pine Tree, after a while his phone starts to chime and shows him a Trainer dressed in all red along with some Tauros accessories who was ranked 1024th and that his name was Hayden. Ash looked around to see the trainer walk up and wave to him indicating he was the guy to battle. Then a drone came saying "you have been approved for an official Pokémon World Coronation Series Normal Class battle" it then displays the scoreboard "the challengers today are Hayden from Fushsia City versus Ash from Pallet town, for today's battle each of you is allowed to use one Pokémon so will both challengers please bring out their Pokémon, three…two…one and go". Ash throws his poke-ball and sends out Scraggy while sends out Tauros, "a Tauros huh" Hayden replies with "yep, in fact this one was the leader in its herd meaning it's tough and strong".
Tauros runs in using Horn Attack and Scraggy also strikes using High Jump Kick, both moves manage to stop their Pokémon but neither one takes damage. Tauros then attacks using Double Kick and sends Scraggy flying but when he gets back on the ground Scraggy attacks with Focus Blast but Tauros charges straight at it with Iron Head and then into Scraggy knocking him back hard. Ash got worried "are you alright Scraggy" Scraggy struggles to get up but he does and then runs back at Tauros using Headbutt and Tauros uses Iron Head again however when they both ram into each other they've stopped in their tracks trying to push the other one out but Tauros overpowers Scraggy and knocks him back again, however this time the second Scraggy gets up again he starts glowing blue "wow again" Ash says and Hayden says "well I'll be darned" Scraggy grows taller and the scale on it's head multiplies into a mohawk and then the glowing lights stopped revealing it had evolved into a Scrafty. Ash was amazed another one of his Pokémon had evolved "Scraggy evolved into a Scrafty" Hayden then tells Tauros "it might've evolved but don't let it distract you" he commands to Tauros to use Bulldoze, as Tauros charged in Scrafty didn't move at all which worried Ash however the second Tauros got close it was immediately hurled back in which Scraggy had just used Protect which fascinated Ash "amazing you learned Protect". Scraggy then finishes the battle off using High Jump Kick right on top Tauros' head causing it become knocked out, the drone then announced, "Tauros is unable to battle so Scrafty is the winner which means the victory goes to Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town". Ash congratulated Scrafty for winning and evolving and in happiness Scrafty headbutted him hard.
Hayden patted his Tauros on the back for battled hard and then went to congratulate Ash "excellent battle Ash, I defiantly couldn't have predicted Scraggy evolving, you're quite a trainer" they shake hands and Ash replies "thanks a lot Hayden" the drone then announced, "as a result of today's battle there has been a change in the Trainer rankings effective immediately". Before leaving Hayden asks, "if we meet again let's have another battle" and Ash replies "sounds good". When Ash was heading back to the train station to head back to Pallet Town his phone starts chiming in which he checks it to see that his new ranking for the World Coronation Series is now 1022nd place "cool only a few more battles and I'll be in the great class".
Soon enough Ash arrived back at Oak's Lab where he was surprised to Croconaw and Scrafty had evolved "well I'll be in just four days you've battled World Coronation Series trainers, win all three battles, only just about two battles away from the Great Class and two of your Pokémon have evolved" Ash replies "yeah just another week for me". Oak looks upon all of Ash's Pokémon all together with each other "you know you were smart to use to use our old Pokémon again" Ash gets confused by this "I was…I don't get it" so Oak then answers him "well usually before you venture to another region you always start fresh with new Pokémon instead of bringing back your old ones, and most of the time they're still able to push themselves whether it be learning a new move or even still reaching another evolutionary form so now that your using them all for the World Coronation Series they can all still be pushed to new feats". Ash then smiles at them all knowing how much effort they all put in throughout his adventures and even after they come here they still train hard, now it was like he was adventuring with them all over again.
Ash's journey to defeat Leon is still a long way ahead but as every win gets him closer it also gets makes him and Pokémon stronger, as the Journey Continues.
