While battling in the World Coronation Series Ash and Pikachu are on their way to Cerulean City for as they were invited to the annual Water Festival, as they were travelling Ash wondered about the Water Festival "you know Pikachu I'm pretty sure this festival will be about water type Pokémon but who invited me…actually I think I know who". While travelling along the road Ash's phone started chiming and announced, "a Battle Challenge has been issued" he then noticed strong muscular man approach him and recognised him "hey you were at the Vermillion Gym working for Visquez" and he replied, "yeah that's me the name's Tony and for the honour of Visquez I challenge you" the phone then asked, "do you wish to accept it or reject it" and Ash being who he is gladly accepted it. As they took their places a drone arrived stating "welcome you have been approved for an official Pokémon World Coronation Series Great Class battle" the drone then announced "for today's battle each of you have the use of one Pokémon" it then creates a scoreboard hologram and explains the rules "the winner will be determined when their opponent's Pokémon is unable to battle I will oversee the battle as official referee so will both challengers please bring out your Pokémon thank you, 3…2…1…go" Ash throws out his poke ball and releases Oshawott who then becomes really happy to battle while Tony sends out and Electabuzz and comments "seems I've got the upper hand this time" however Ash confidently says "it's going to take more than type advantages to beat us".
Electabuzz starts off using Thunder Wave and paralyses Oshawott a little causing him to become distracted by the pain and then Electabuzz releases an Electro Ball which does a great deal of damage to Oshawott. Oshawott manages to get up but Electabuzz runs in using Headbutt however Oshawott comes in with an Aqua Jet, as they clashed Electabuzz still stood strong But Oshawott was almost out and almost fell to the floor however in a fit of rage it started to glow blue and change shape which surprises Ash "it's evolving" Tony replies "well that was unexpected" when it stops glowing they see it had evolved into a Dewott who was ready to battle again. Electabuzz tries Thunder Wave again but Dewott countered it with Hydro Pump and landed a hit onto Electabuzz, however it then tried to strike an Electro Ball again but something new happened for that Dewott channelled his power and learned Water Pulse which surprised Ash "no way you learnt Water Pulse" was able to disarm Electro Ball. With no other choice Electabuzz released a Thunderbolt but Dewott was fast and uses Razor Shell both protecting and literally cutting through the electricity and delt the final blow onto Electabuzz. After all that Electabuzz was knocked out and the drone then announces "Electabuzz is unable to battle Dewott wins so the victory goes to Ash and as a result of today's battle there has been a change in the Trainer rankings", Ash was so proud of Dewott and Dewott was so happy that it won and evolved but it was still it's old self.
Tony put Electabuzz back in its poke ball and stated "you may have beaten me today but I promise to bring honour to the Vermillion Gym again" like that Tony runs off leaving Ash confused "sure do meet a lot of weird people don't we" Pikachu and Dewott nodded yes. However, Ash looked at his phone and realised it was telling him that he was now ranked 901st place which put a smile on his face.
After a little while the three of them made it to Cerulean City and once arrived they witnessed the whole festival going on filled with many water type Pokémon let alone vendors selling water type merchandise and even sea food, Ash was amazed by all this "wow this place is amazing, hey I wonder if…" Ash turn noticed a stage with a lot of people gathering and wondered what it was about but then he noticed a sign and became very surprised to see that it was advertising the appearance of the Squirtle Squad "no way it's Squirtle" Ash and Pikachu become very excited that they could see Squirtle again.
Ash, Pikachu and Dewott stood in the crowd awaiting to see the Squirtle Squad, on the stage were five oil drums but then they caught fire which surprised everyone however leaping from behind the fires was the Squirtle Squad lead by none other than Ash's Squirtle who immediately put out the fire. They then started to do a dance routine using Water Gun which made the crowd really so thrilled especially Ash who yelled out "YOU'RE SO AWSOME SQUIRTLE" Squirtle recognised that voice and realised it was Ash so he lifted his sunglasses and winked at him which made Ash so happy to see Squirtle remembered him.
After the show the fans got to meet the squad and even take pictures with them however Squirtle himself was really right now focused on trying to get to see Ash again, so when he had finally finished meeting his fans he saw Ash and Pikachu walk up and immediately ran towards them and jumped into Ash's arms "I can't belive it Squirtle it's really you I missed you so much" Squirtle embraced Ash's hug and then Pikachu jumped into it as well. Ash then placed them down and introduced Squirtle to Dewott "Squirtle I'd like you to meet Dewott a Pokémon I caught in Unova" they both greeted each other nicely but then it quickly turned into a competition of who was cooler by striking cool poses.
Later the four of them decided to embrace the festival fully and thanks to Squirtle they managed to get souvenirs for free, while taking a break from shopping Ash then heard a very familiar female voice "Ash Ketchum long time no see" Ash turns around and sees none other than Misty. Out of pure excitement Pikachu runs up and jumps into Misty's arms and hugs "so good to see you Pikachu it's been such a long time" she says and then Ash walks up to her and says, "so you're the one that invited us" and she replies "you bet but you see…" immediately Misty became distracted when she sees Squirtle "oh my goodness Squirtle is that you" Squirtle was happy to see her in which Misty hugged him and then she turned her attention to Dewott and out of instinct run up to him and started hugging him hard "oh my goodness your so cute and I've heard so much about you" despite loving the attention this time Dewott was very annoyed by Misty's bear hugs. Misty then released him and became confused about it so she asked Ash "hey Ash I thought you had an Oshawott because that's what Tracy told me" Ash answers "well you see on our way here he had battle for an event called the World Coronation Series and well Oshawott fought an Electabuzz and mid-battle it evolved", hearing the event Ash mentioned Misty realised she still hadn't told him "that's right I almost forgot Ash Ketchum I challenge you to battle" Ash's phone started chiming "a Battle Challenge has been issued do you wish to accept it or reject it" Ash looks up at Misty who had a determined look on her and face and Ash proudly said "I accept" but instead of a drone immediately coming in their phones said "please report to the designated battlefield in order to start the match" Ash became confused but Misty explained "oh yeah we're doing this on my home turf".
Later they arrived at the Cerulean Gym and before they entered Psyduck walked out and was happy to see Ash, Pikachu and Squirtle again "wow it's Psyduck" Pikachu and Squirtle run up and the two of them and Psyduck hug each other however as tried to let go Psyduck being his slow-self continued hugging him and wouldn't let go. Misty tried to intimate Ash to see if she could get the upper hand in the battle "this place always makes you bring back memories like I when I beat you in a gym battle and gave you a badge out of pity remember that" Ash tried not to let her get to him "I do but do you remember when me and Pikachu beat your Mega Gyarados" Misty then becomes annoyed "just get on the stupid battle field".
Once inside Ash and Misty took their places a drone arrived stating "welcome you have been approved for an official Pokémon World Coronation Series Great Class battle" the drone then announced "for today's battle each of you have the use of two Pokémon each" it then creates a scoreboard hologram and explains the rules "the winner will be determined when their opponent's Pokémon is unable to battle I will oversee the battle as official referee so will both challengers please bring out your Pokémon thank you, 3…2…1…go" Misty throws out her poke ball and releases her Starmie which Ash recognises "Starmie huh haven't seen him for a while", he then looks over at Squirtle and asks "hey Squirtle you wanna battle" Squirtle was so happy to hear those words that without hesitation he leapt into the battlefield and was ready to battle.
Both Squirtle and Starmie started off with a water gun attack and both land direct hits, however Starmie was able to take it head on while Squirtle struggled. However, Squirtle still attacked strong so it charged in using Skull Bash however Starmie froze apart of the field making Squirtle slip and lose balance however quickly he then used Rapid Spin and started spinning around everywhere so fast and landed a lot of hits on Starmie however it managed to put and end to Squirtle's spinning and used Psychic to stop him in his tracks and hold in place. Using this opportunity Starmie ran in using Tackle however Squirtle quickly released a Hydro Pump landing a direct hit causing Starmie to stop the Psychic power and get hurled into the wall and then knocked out. The drone comes in closer to Starmie and announces "Starmie is unable to battle", Ash then praises Squirtle for the win "alright wait ago Squirtle nice to see you still got some moves" Pikachu and Dewott also cheered for Squirtle as well in which he stood proudly. Misty then readied her second Pokémon "alright Ash this is where I take control" Misty threw out her second poke ball and released Politoed as her second Pokémon, Ash then comments "good to see you again Politoed" though happy to see Ash Politoed was focused on the battle.
Squirtle charges in with Skull Bash while Politoed releases a Hydro Pump however Squirtle pushes through and lands a hit knocking Politoed back, though Squirtle did some damage he also took some recoil damage as well. Politoed to this chance to take out Squirtle so it used Bounced and leaped into the air then landed directly on top of Squirtle, this managed to knock Squirtle unconscious in which the drone came in close and announced "Squirtle is unable to battle" on the scoreboard both Squirtle and Starmie's icons turned grey meaning this round was the one to decide who the winner would be "alright Misty let's finish this here and now" Ash said and Misty replied "Bring it on Ash" Ash threw out his last poke ball and released Heracross into the battle in which Misty commented "wow I guess today has been filled with old friends going against each other".
Politoed attacked using Hydro Pump but Heracross flew into the air and dodged it but retaliated using Hyper Beam but Politoed dodged as well. Heracross flew in readying up a Throat Chop while Politoed was about to strike using Mega Punch, both landed on each other causing them both to get hurled back to their trainers. Politoed tried using a Bounce attack but Heracross managed to evade the landing by flying back into the air and then charged in using Mega Horn but Politoed tried to stop him by creating multiple Focus Blasts which slows Heracross down and stops his attack, however Heracross then proceeds to use Close Combat and as it continues to strike it's defence lowers allowing Politoed to use Mega Punch and both knock other back again. Now was the time to end it all so Heracross with Mega Horn while Politoed rushed in using Mega Punch but the second both moves collided with each other Heracross stood his ground and Politoed got launched into the air and was knocked unconscious The drone then announces "Politoed is unable to battle which means the victory goes to Ash of Pallet Town" while Misty went to check on Politoed immediately Ash became excited and all his Pokémon jumped on top of him and hugged him hard out of joy. The drone then announces, "as a result of today's battle there has been a change in the Trainer rankings effective immediately" Ash's phone chimes and then shows that he's now been ranked in 870th place.
After the battle everyone went outside the gym to say goodbye, Officer Jenny had come by with the rest of the Squirtle Squad to pick up Squirtle in which was a hard goodbye for him and Ash "I really had fun battling with you again little buddy" Squirtle gave Ash and Pikachu one last hug and as is got into the police car with the other Squirtles he waved goodbye at all his friends while they all waved back.
With Squirtle on his way it time for Ash to get going as well "well I guess it's time for the four of us to head home now" he said and Misty replied, "it was nice to see and battle you again but this time you just got lucky" Misty was still trying to taunt him but Ash still kept his cool "whatever but you realise that all the battles we've recently had you haven't won", Misty then both mad and annoyed that he technically was right. As she said goodbye to Ash's Pokémon she then noticed Dewott was looking at something in the distance, he saw an Eevee in the field dancing and out of instinct his eyes turned into bright and large pink hearts and went running after it with a flower bouquet of roses in which Ash comments "man I really though him evolving would've changed his personality for the better" and Misty replies "you know he kind of reminds me of Brock" as Oshawott tried introducing himself to Eevee it used a Swift attack on him and launched him back to the group unconscious in which Ash states "yeah defiantly like Brock" this also everyone start laughing.
Today was a very wild day for our hero there's been reunions with old friends, battles with old friends not to mention battling alongside old friends, so much more will be in store for our hero as the journey continues.
