Ga Eul has been having a few good days. With Hong Joon away for a month, she had nothing to worry or reminisce about. Even Jan Di's problems have evaporated little by little. After talking with Jun Pyo that day, he somehow managed to fix things with Jan Di. They were still not dating, but testing the waters. Ga Eul made sure not to tell Jan Di about Yi Jung's visit to the store. She was sure a visit like that would affect Jan Di's decision. However true Yi Jung's words were, she wanted the choice to be Jan Di's.
It was still day, and the store had a considerable amount of customers. It was a busy day, and Ga Eul kept going from table to table waitressing on them and helping a bit in the kitchen. She might've hated busy days, but she was also glad that the business was doing well. It meant a steady paycheck for her and a happy boss. She was done taking an order when the sound of a door being forcefully opened made her jolt and drop her little notebook. An alarmed made his entrance in the store capturing a few customers attention. She didn't have the time and energy to deal with him again. He took long strides to her and pulled her arm. Ga Eul could feel herself fuming. That was the second time already. She thought after the last time he would let her be. This time Ga Eul yanked her arm forcefully, not bothering to be polite.
"We have to hurry. It's an emergency." He said. He was different this time. More serious and on edge, but something felt a bit off.
"What does that have to do with me?" Ga Eul said.
"It has to do with Jan Di. If we don't hurry now, we might not be able to see her." Yi Jung replied. Now he Ga Eul's full attention. Nope because she was worried, but because he was lying to her. Very obviously even. She let out a soft chuckle. It was unexpected that a guy like him would be a bad liar. Well, technically Yi Jung always looked like he was, and this time was no exception. If something had happened happen, his eyes wouldn't be as cold as they still are now.
"You're an awful liar. Now, don't waste my time any more than this I'm busy." Ga Eul said, turning away. He caught her arm again, but she shot him a murderous look, and he released it. He looked a bit offended at the insult.
"It's not all a lie. Jan Di is leaving." He said
"Where?"
"We really don't have time."
"I'm not going anywhere with you unless you tell me the whole truth."
"Jun Pyo's taking her on a last minute trip to New Caledonia. He wants you along, so that she would feel comfortable." He said. Ga Eul was taken aback. That was out of the country. Ga Eul didn't want to go anywhere with him, but she didn't have a choice. She had already bailed on Jan Di once, she couldn't do it again to her friend, and there was no way she would leave Jan Di alone in a foreign country with those guys. The only problem was the store.
"What about the store?" Ga Eul asked. She saw Yi Jung relax a bit knowing that he convinced her.
"I'll get substitutes. We have to move now. We have a flight to catch." He said.
Ga Eull took off her apron and followed him outside. She couldn't slow them down any longer, so she left without saying anything to her boss. She hoped her substitutes would make it up for him.
It was a quiet car ride. Ga Eul didn't feel compelled to start any conversation neither did he. She was at least grateful for that. She was pissed, however, when she realized that they arrived early and had to wait for Jan Di and Jun Pyo. Yi Jung made her hurry for no reason. She had to stand awkwardly with the rest of the F4 waiting for them. She had to admit that they were just as handsome as people described them to be. Maybe even more. She always thought that there would be an element of exaggeration because of their rank in society, but she was wrong. She wasn't unfamiliar with how they looked or which one was who, but pictures sometimes tended to unreliable. Being in their presence was overpowering, and she was stuck in the thick overbearing silence around these guys. Woo Bin seemed like the most approachable out of the three, but she wasn't very sure of her intuition. She did know about his shady background. Maybe it was just camouflage. Ji Hoo didn't utter a single word, and he was standing like a statue unmoving. He had his headphones on and stared into the nothingness like he wasn't aware of his surroundings or he was really bored of his company. Ga Eul couldn't tell. Finally, a car pulled up with Jun Pyo and an ever-protesting Jan Di. It looked like Jan Di wasn't aware of this sudden trip. Expected, Ga Eul thought.
After what seemed like an eternity of bantering, Jan Di was finally convinced to hop on the plane. Ga Eul didn't say anything and just waited for Jan Di's decision. After all, that trip was for her.
Watching them fight like that, Ga Eul realized how much Jan Di and Jun Pyo looked and acted like a couple. She saw how natural Jan Di acted around him. She knew that if Jun Pyo doesn't screw up, they would end up together at the end of that trip. Although the possibility of him messing up was high. From the moment Ga Eul saw him, she wanted to break into laughter. It wasn't that he lacked his good looks, but his ridiculously curly hair nearly took the air from her lungs. And his personality was the cherry on top. She wondered how Jan Di could ever take him seriously. Probably she didn't. That was why she took forever to make a decision.
After sleeping for the entirety of the trip, they finally arrived. It didn't take a long trip from the airport to the resort, and it was gorgeous. The entire resort was literally on iridescent turquoise water. She couldn't fully comprehend her surrounding and the beauty around her until they were walking on a wooden route on the water leading to their rooms. Ga Eul felt herself relax and her shoulders loosened. Breathing in the fresh air, she suddenly forgot that she was on this trip involuntarily. She didn't realize how much she needed the vacation until that moment. She might have been reluctant at first, but now she was glad she came. It was also a bonus that the whole trip was paid for including clothes. She didn't feel bad about accepting any of them as they were the ones who took her there last minute. She was going to return the clothes after the trip, but she would enjoy the relaxing vacation.
They were all going to their designated rooms when they were joined by two tall beautiful blondes. Each one took side of Woo Bin and Yi Jung. Looks like they had already settled for their plus ones on this trip. Before going into her room, Jun Pyo announced that they were going to meet after an hour in the lobby.
Ga Eul lied on her too fancy of a bed. It had been a while since she felt that relaxed. She couldn't even remember the last time she felt that care-free. It was all the better that she was sure that Hong Joon wouldn't contact her. Her eyes started getting heavy, and the rhythmic sound of the water made her yawn. Relaxation took over, and she slept for what felt like hours, and for the first time in weeks, she had a nightmare-free sleep.
Her rest was short-lived as she was woken up by the sound of banging on her door. Groaningly, she got up from the bed to open the door. It was was Jan Di.
"Why haven't you gotten dressed, yet? Jun pro's waiting for us." She said as she entered the room. Her eyes went for the unopened suitcase, and she shot Ga Eul a look.
"You haven't even unpacked. It's already bad enough that you didn't warn me before hand about this trip."
"It's not my fault. They're your friends not mine. I thought you knew. Plus, your boyfriend can wait a few minutes for us. I was stuck with the rest of the guys at the airport waiting for you."
"Okay, just don't take too long. And, thank you for coming. I know this isn't your thing." Jan Di said.
"I didn't accept out of the goodness of my heart. I just couldn't say no to a free trip." Ga Eul said sarcastically.
"Yeah yeah. I'm grateful anyway." Jan Di said.
"Don't be. You know I'd do anything for you. Let me get changed now, so I don't make you wait any longer. By the way, notice how you didn't protest when I called Jun Pyo your boyfriend." Ga Eul said.
"I mustn't have noticed when you said that. I'll leave you now." Jan Di said with blushing cheeks before leaving. Ga Eul couldn't believe her eyes. She didn't think she would ever see Jan Di shy and blushing. She let out a hearty laugh while she opened the suitcase on the floor. The clothes weren't her taste, but she could make do with them. Chun Ja would have loved these clothes, Ga Eul thought. She shook thought of her older sister before it could control her and took the first dress on the stack of clothes.
After a quick shower, she got dressed and quickly joined the others. She wasn't even late. They all, including his blonde girl, had to wait for Woo Bin. Since it wasn't their first time there, the guys took the liberty of showing them around the island. The island itself was alluring, and Ga Eul couldn't stop staring at her surroundings, and neither could Jan Di. It felt like she left all her worries behind back at home, and she was just enjoying time with her friend exploring this heaven. It wasn't like she hadn't been abroad before, but it was always with her family, and it was nowhere near as luxurious as this trip. They were walking around the island when Jun Pyo started showing off his wealth as he took notice of the awe-stricken Jan Di.
"Where are we again?" Jan Di asked, asking about the island.
"It's Metro Island. It's our own personal island, and the resorts are ours, too." Jun Pyo replied.
"Ours?" Jan Di asked.
"Yes, Shinhwa group's." Jun Pyo said, and at that Jan Di gulped. Ga Eul thought it was a wrong move to show off like that. To win a girl like Jan Di, bringing up their differences wouldn't help him. She could feel how uncomfortable Jan Di got.
"Woo bin's family bought an island, too. In Dubai." Jun Pyo said.
"To be accurate, it's an artificial island that looks like Korea." Yi Jung added.
"See, these jerks forgot Dokdo." Woo Bin said. With that. Jan Di chocked on the drink in her hand, and Ga Eul patted her back. If they happened to forget, the F4 managed to remind them of their wealth, and a glimpse of how far it ran. Ga Eul knew they did it solely for entertainment. Seeing Jan Di get flustered gave them amusement. They were expecting Jan Di's reaction. The only one who didn't jump on their wagon was Ji Hoo, and then she could see why Jan Di used to like him. He was more down to earth and quiet. But, still he didn't talk with any of them, so she wondered how Jan Di got any words out of his mouth in order to develop feelings. Ga Eul knew that these feelings were no more. Jan Di told Ga Eul herself that when he came back, she didn't feel anything. It was even clear in the way she looked at him now.
After sight-seeing and walking all day, they decided to finally take a break at the resort, and Ga Eul couldn't feel more grateful. She and Jan Di ended up staying at Jan Di's room. They were laying on chaise-longs in her room's deck looking out on the water.
"I don't want to pressure you, but what are you planning to do? With the way that things are going, I feel like this whole thing is getting pretty serious. I know you're confused right now, and I can't blame you for it, but you have to start thinking seriously about what you want to do. If things continue dragging out the way they are now, you would be only stringing Jun Pyo along." Ga Eul.
"I was thinking the same thing, and I feel guilty for not giving him a definite answer, so that's why I decided to make up my mind by the end of this trip. But, you also see how they're all like. It's hard keeping up with them." Jan Di said.
"Yeah, I felt that too. But, Jun Pyo is only doing that to impress you. In a way, he's acting like a child trying to impress the girl he likes with a new toy, and I don't think that it's something that can't be fixed."
"I'm going to think about it more. You know, you always know the right thing to say." Jan Di said, and Ga Eul only gave her a weak smile in return.
She knew that she was comforting to some people, and that was one of the main reasons Hong Joon clung to her. It was also why her sister used to love her. Chun Ja might have been the devil incarnate, but she cared for Ga Eul in a sick twisted way. That is not to say that if Ga Eul wasn't useful to her, she wouldn't have tossed her aside. Chun Ja knew that Ga Eul saw her for what she truly was, and that made her despise Ga Eul a lot of the time, and it was also why her sister loved her. Ga Eul always stayed. Her sister was charming and cunning. She always got what she wanted either by manipulating people or by pressuring them. Not many knew how vile her sister truly was in nature for she was striking to look at. No one would expect that such horridness could ever come out of that lovely creature. Other than Ga Eul and Hong Joon, no one had seen her at her absolute worst. That was why they were the only people Chun Ja sincerely loved. Because for the few times, so few it made them wonder if it were all an illusion in the first place, Chun Ja lost all control of her composed self and turned into a raging mess.
It wasn't, however, smooth sailing with Ga Eul as it was with Hong Joon. Hong Joon was desperately in love with Chun Ja that whatever she did, he couldn't go against her instead he support her in every move she took. It wasn't the same for Ga Eul. Ga Eul knew of the terrible things her sister did, and while she didn't voice her disapproval, it was obvious that she was against her decisions. Hong Joon and Ga Eul might have seen the worst out of Chun Ja, but they were different in their perception of her. Hong Joon was so blinded by love that he wouldn't see how wicked she was even if she was standing over a bloodied corpse with blood on her hands. But Ga Eul knew things for what they really were, and that was the cause of some of the hatred Chun Ja harbored towards Ga Eul. Hong Joon revered Chun Ja while Ga Eul didn't.
Ga Eul found herself lost in thought of her sister that she didn't realize that Jun Pyo and Yi Jung had joined them in on the Jan Di's deck.
"You're going somewhere with me." Jun Pyo said to Jan Di.
"Where?" Jan Di replied
"You'll know when we get there." He said as he took her hand. Jan Di looked at Ga Eul for help, but she only gave her a sympathetic smile and urged her to go. And with that, she was left with Yi Jung alone. She got up and decided to go to her own room.
"Where are you going?" Yi Jung asked.
"It's none of your business." Ga Eul said."You're not going to follow them are you?" Yi Jung said. Ga Eul then knew that Jun Pyo sent him to hog her to spend some time alone with Jan Di.
"What? No, don't worry I won't get in the way of the happy couple, so you don't have to babysit me." Ga Eul said.
"What will you do, then?" Yi Jung asked."I'll go on a solo tour."
"How? You don't even know it here neither do you know the language.
"There's a thing called a map. I got it at the reception, and I know enough English to get by. I was bound to leave them anyway. You didn't have to go through all these measures."
"I'm kind of assigned to you now, so there's no way I'll leave you alone. If anything happens to you, it'll be my responsibility."
"I'm not a child, and if anything dangerous happens I can call."
"I'm not taking that risk."
"Fine." Ga Eul said angrily, knowing there was no way she could get him off her back. She wasn't all too pleased at the idea of being stuck with him, but she couldn't go for Jan Di either. She wondered if that was her punishment for bailing on Jan Di on their last trip. If it was, then she wouldn't have to feel guilty about leaving her ever again for she was paying the price now.
Ga Eul and Yi Jung were silent most of the time, but Ga Eul could tell how bored and frustrated he was to be stuck with her. That feeling was mutual. To distract herself, she kept taking photos of the breathtaking views of the water, and the lush greenery surrounding them. She wanted to remember that place as a memory of spending a vacation with Jan Di even if the one beside her wasn't said friend. She made them stop every few minutes to take photos, and Yi Jung was growing tired of her.
"Aren't you bored, yet? You made us stop at least five times to take a picture. As far as I can tell, the view isn't changing that much?" Yi Jung said.
"Look, this is my first time coming here, so this might be boring to you, but it's not for me. If you're bored, you can leave. I didn't ask for you to come. And I still have to go up that hill since I took so many photos already down here." Ga Eul said, pointing at the hill.
"There's no way I'm climbing that hill. I've been here nine times, and no one wanted to."
"Whatever suits you." Ga Eul said as she turned her back on him and started going up for the hill.
After panting and sweating, she finally reached the top of the hill. She looked around her and realized it was worth the tiring hike. She was taking a few pictures when an idea hit her. She was sure Yi Jung hadn't left and was waiting for her down, so she piercingly screamed at the top of her lungs knowing in a minute he'd be here. Wasn't he the one who insisted that she was his responsibility? So she'd let him suffer a little. It was a petty move, but she wanted to take a little revenge for unwillingly following her and ruining her peace. Just as she had predicted, a distressed Yi Jung appeared before her trying to find the source of the problem, but Ga Eul just grinned at him. He looked at her with furious eyes as she basked in her victory.
"What the hell did you do that for?" He said angrily.
"That's just a little payback for following me around. Plus, I'm actually doing you a favor. I mean look around. That's a pretty stellar view, right?" Ga Eul said.
"That wasn't funny." Yi Jung said. Ga Eul just shrugged at him.
Walking down the hill, she popped Yi Jung a question that had been bothering her. "For a guy that was against this relationship, you are helping Jun Pyo too much. Might I ask why the sudden change?"
"I'm still not convinced, but Jun Pyo has something that I want, so I'm helping him out a bit."
"Huh, that does make sense. I wonder what can make someone like you so desperate. Or maybe the rumors about were just exaggerating a great deal.""What does that even mean?" He said, clearly getting agitated.
"You're supposed to be a charming womanizer that never loses his cool, but all I saw out of you is terrible lying, going behind your best friend's back because you disapprove of his relationship, and then changing your mind, and running around following a stranger all because you want something out of Jun Pyo which I'm going to assume is pottery related. Kind of pathetic, don't you think?" Ga Eul said. Yi Jung stopped in his tracks and looked Ga Eul dead in the eyes. His eyes dark and unwavering.
"Once you see Jan Di broken down on the floor with bloodshot eyes, you'll know that I was right. Don't let stupid pride get ahead of fact that we have the upper hand here, and there's nothing you or Jan Di can do about it." Ga Eul never dropped his gaze. She knew that was bound to happen since she had angered him one too many times.
"You might have a point, but you're underestimating Jan Di once again. She won't break down that easily." Ga Eul said. He just gave her an all-knowing smile like he was talking to an ignorant child. At least he had returned back to his masked coldness instead of anger the rest of the trip back to the resort, Ga Eul thought.
Back at her room, she didn't know why she had said that to him. She wasn't planning on offending him like that, but there was something about him that rubbed her the wrong way. Maybe it was the fact that every single thing about him felt forced from his casual smirks and his attempts at charm to his over-bearing confidence. What irked her most of all is that no one seemed to notice, including him, how unnatural he seemed. The only time she felt that he was being truthful was when he was basically threatening her. Looking back at the the things she said to him and why he annoyed her so much, things added up to her, and she realized why she had been acting strange, and she wasn't all too pleased with the sudden realization hanging at the back of her head. Yi Jung held an uncanny resemblance to Chun Ja. They were too similar in their ways that Ga Eul had to take a step back and realize her mistake. She was unleashing her bitterness and anger pointed towards her sister at a stranger. A conniving stranger nonetheless. She felt a twinge of guilt that passed as quickly as it came. She decided to step away from him. No good would come out of dealing with that guy again.
A/N: I know that this update is so late but uni happened. Anyways, here's a treat for waiting so long :)
