Let the attack continue
It was times like this Kasumi was grateful she was the size that she was. Sure, when she was younger she may have cursed a couple of times that her chest was as small as it was or that her ass was too flat but that didn't come up anymore, not since she found her calling in life. Now was a good example of that, one wouldn't be wrong in saying that she is petite in size. It made fitting through tight holes easier, like the one she just went through.
Based on the way she could feel the gravity pull at her, she was climbing in a diagonal vent going upwards. It's sometimes hard to tell what way you're facing if you've been on your stomach for so long and in very little light, along with a good number of twists and turns.
Though it went without saying this was by far the worst heist she has been a part of. Not due to the score, Kasumi may have been a thief but she wasn't an idiot. She knew that while the payment for this job wasn't money or jewels, it was something much more important than that. The survival of her species, while not as flashy and fun as money, was still very important. Besides Clark helped her get the Greybox from that asshole Hawkes, she kinda owed him one.
No, this was the worst heist she's been on due to the location. Forget going through the Omega four relay, she was crawling through what was basically an incest hive. It was hot and damp and everything was slimy. She could already tell that she was going to need multiple showers once all this was said and done "Are you still with me Legion?" she asked as she continued to crawl, moving to the side slightly and placing herself on her side in order to turn a bend and continue to make her way forward.
"We are keeping up at an acceptable pace" the synthesised voice said from behind her, not that she could turn and look at him while they moved. However that didn't mean she wasn't grateful he was there, she's been alone in vents many times. It's weird for her to have someone in a vent with her. In this case, she was grateful for it "Goto Kasumi" Legion said to her "We are nearing the access point. We will need to move thirty feet then cut downward out of this air control unit"
A small grunt escaped the thief "Got it" she spoke with gritted teeth as she moved through a wet puddle in the middle of the vent 'How could this be acceptable' she thought to herself. There was a puddle in it, who has puddles in a vent? She hated this place so much and found herself saying the same thing over and over again in her head. It's for humanity, it's for humanity.
Finally coming to the location, she stopped moving "Alright buddy, cutting through now" said before reaching for her belt and grabbing two things, her advanced handheld welder and some goggles. Hold them up to her eyes, she turned on the welder and started to cut through the floor of the vent. Thankfully it didn't take long, One of the very few good things about this place, the hive's organic-like walls were much weaker than the stronger metal that was scattered around the place.
So, it only took her a few minutes to cut a small hole that was big enough for them to hit through, as she cut the last part, gravity took effect and the cut-out piece fell to the ground with a wet splat. Knowing that she couldn't rush this, Kasumi waited a moment to see if anything was sent to investigate the sound that it made, after a few minutes nothing came so she moved. Poking her head out of the hole first. Looking around she saw a small round tunnel that was made of glass. Looking out of it she could see the many different Collectors all running around and taking up defensive positions. Thankfully facing away from her.
Quietly she moved her head back and spoke "Legion, I can see a shit tone of Collectors" she whispered.
Seeing that her volume was lowered, Legion's voice did the same "Is combat needed, We can provide cover and allow you to proceed" it said to her.
While a smile came onto her face upon hearing it was willing to sacrifice himself for her, she shook her head "You don't need to, they are busy setting up a defence. I assume it's for the Marauders. You have cloaking right?" she asked.
"This unit is equipped with a cloaking unit" it confirmed.
"Good" she nodded back before bringing up her Omni-Tool "then get ready, I want to avoid a fight if I can" With that said she turned on her unit and the light bent around her until she was invisible, while it wasn't perfect as if one looked close enough they would be able to see her, she was willing to bet... her life apparently that the Collectors had other things to worry about and would be to be distracted to notice her or Legion.
With a careful skill that she's mastered throughout her life, Kasumi held onto the edges of the hole she made and slowly started to lower herself down into the class tunnel, she went in headfirst so keeping her hands on the edges, she performed a slow front turn to keep her the right side up until she was straight. Letting go her legs gently hit the floor and she lowered herself into a kneeling position close to the ground.
Even though she was sure they wouldn't see her, it didn't mean she didn't want to test her luck. Her eyes moved to the tunnel, and it seemed to go on for a while, moving through a couple of different rooms and chambers. While staying on all fours, the thief started to move silently across the ground and towards their target. Only turning her head once to see that Legion was copying her movement and the two started to make their way forward.
It went without issue, much to Kasumi's relief. As they moved through the station, they did so as quickly as they could but also quietly and the two didn't attract attention from the enemy. They went through many different rooms and chambers but to be perfectly honest, neither she nor Legion had an idea of what each was used for as they all looked the same and there were no large data nodes for the Geth to try and hack into to find out.
After ten minutes of moving, they came across something else. Nothing. the glass tunnel they were moving through didn't stop, but it was no longer going through different chambers and rooms. Now, it was going through something solid. All around them, the organic hive matter was pushing up against the glass. Making everything naturally much darker since this tunnel didn't have any types of lights.
"Legion" she whispered as the two came to a halt "Is there any type of camera or surveillance system in here?" she asked.
There was a moment of silence before the Geth answered "We have been monitoring all forms of data since arrival, There has been nothing so far that indicates we are detectable by any system while inside this unknown unit" it answered.
Taking his words to heart Kasumi started to move ahead and away from the last room they were in, just to make sure that there would be no suspects. While keeping the cloaking unit on, the thief got back onto her feet and stretched her legs slightly "It'll be quicker like this. Come on, we should be getting close to it now" she said to Legion.
"GET THAT DOOR OPEN!" Miranda shouted as she and all the others stood with their backs to the large door. They were shooting outwards across the large chamber as multiple platforms came towards them, each one full of Collectors and she could see two more of those silver vehicles flying towards them.
"One more moment!" EDI shouted from her kneeling position as she worked with the holographic controls.
Taking out the Collectors was doable but those machines were an issue. While the Marauders were present they were all grateful for that but their numbers had lowered since they went down every type of corridor and tunnel to clear the station as best they could. An explosion landed at the side of her and Miranda's body was knocked off its feet by it, even if she wasn't completely injured. Though there would no doubt be a couple of scratches due to it as well "There's a swarm coming" Thane called out to them.
Not even taking a second to mentally curse, Miranda quickly picked herself back up, dropping her weapon onto the ground as she did so and raised both her hands, the familiar feeling of biotic power came over her and using all of her training, she was able to create a large biotic field that all the swarm insects soon bounced into and where unable to break through.
"HURRY UP EDI!" she shouted, not knowing how long she could keep this up, having far less talent compared to someone like Samara.
"NEARLY THERE!" EDI said shouting back herself for the first time.
"Keep her covered" Jacob said as both he and Grunt moved in front of Miranda as she was unable to defend herself from the oncoming attacks.
"Gladly" Grunt snarled as he stood right in front of the woman and fired his weapon, each round marking a target and doing damage, the only thing he proved unable to deal with was the machines that slowly advanced.
"GOT IT!" the A.I shouted as the door started too slowly open.
"EDI in first!" Miranda ordered "Find the controls on the other side and close the doors. The A.I quickly ran through the doors and Miranda was next, all the while still keeping her shield up. Thane was quick to follow, then Jacob and of course, Grunt stayed out the longest, firing as much as he could as he slowly started to back up.
EDI was already kneeling in front of the controls trying to get the doors to close and buy them some time, allowing them to move forward without being fired at from behind. While that was happening, Miranda had no choice but to keep her shield up to keep the swarm at bay. She didn't know how or why, to be perfectly honest Miranda didn't care as to either, but EDI was able to close the door much faster than she opened it and it closed with a heavy thud.
As soon as she heard that her biotics dropped, and she slumped and placed her hands on her knees. She was so busy taking deep breaths that she didn't notice all the others turn around to look at the chamber they had just entered. Bar EDI who was still kneeling in front of the controls, was no doubt trying to lock the doors down so they can't be reopened.
"You're all seeing this as well right" Jacob said with a concerned voice.
Upon hearing it, Miranda turned around and stood back up straight to see what was happening. Her own eyes narrowed as she caught sight of it all. This chamber she was in now was by far the largest they'd been in yet, they seemed to be on the ground level but looking up, it seemed to go up forever, the only light coming from some strange large yellow bulbs that hugged the wall, there looked to be thousands of them.
"Eyes up" she said as the whole group raised their weapons and started to move forward, EDI joined a moment later, now finished with the door "Does anyone know what these things are?" she asked the group. It went without saying what she meant, every member of the group's eyes was glued to the bulbous objects.
Thane was the closest to the wall as they moved and it wasn't hard to understand why, with everyone that they passed he started to look inside them while they kept an eye out for the enemy "There seems to be some type of organic matter inside of them, though not much. I can see a skull, it looks human" he told the group.
Being the only scientist present besides maybe EDI, Miranda started to cover everything that it could mean but thankfully she didn't need to think on her own for too long "Based on the reports that were taken from the Alliance spies, the Collector ship on Horizen housed similar objects" she started to explain to the others as they all moved "it is believed that they are a type of stasis pod used for capture"
As she heard those words Miranda's mind flashed all the way back to Freedom's progress, the first time she went on a mission with Clark and what they found with the footage that the Quarian survivor was able to give them, she mentally cursed herself for forgetting about it. The only thing she could do was make the excuse that the footage they saw was blurry and that when she last saw the pods, they were open, lacking the distinctive yellow light. It wasn't the best excuse but it's all she had.
Once that was over with she took a moment to think about what she was seeing against what she heard "They could take every signal colonist in the Terminus systems and not have enough to fill these pods. They'd need to target something huge for this" she briefly thought of Earth but there would be no way, the Collectors are good but they wouldn't have been able to target the home world without taking huge losses.
"For what purpose would they bring the humans here?" Grunt asked the group as he marched in front as he always did "to melt them down? Why?"
The questions were fair but that didn't make them any more bearable to herself or the others. She didn't want to believe but there would be little else that could have been done to leave enough organic matter for it to be noticeable to the naked eye, not to mention bone fragments "I don't know, we'll have to trust that Kasumi and Legion will be able to find out what they need to from the data centre, as far as I'm concerned at the moment, we just have another reason to blow this place" her words brokered no argument from the others, if anything they seemed spared on by them.
Moving forward as a group, the large chamber started to narrow until it was no longer this vast open space but instead a tunnel that looked to stretch on further, all of the walls that made it up were covered with tubes that seemed to be heading in the same direction. Just ahead of them was a metal platform that they had seen in their travels throughout the station. The same ones that the Collector soldiers used to get around, which was good considering she couldn't see any way to get through the tunnel as all the walkways seemed to come to an end.
"This platform appears to be operational" EDI said as one by one they all started to step on and spread out "based on my scans of the station and those provided by Kelex and the Marauders. The largest energy signature is coming from the end of this tunnel. I should be able to use this platform to get us there" she told the rest of them.
"Fantastic" Miranda said before she raised her Omni-Tool and opened a link "Team one to teams two and three, we're about to reach the station's core. How's it going on your end?" she asked.
There was a moment of silence before a voice cut in "This is team two!" It was Williams who shouted into the com telling them Garrus was either dead or too busy to answer "We're encountering heavy resistance! It looks like what's left of the bulk of the station's forces have blocked the way to the command centre! The Marauders are making the difference but Samara's not going to be able to hold the biotic field for much longer, these swarms will get us if nothing is done!" she told them as the sounds of weapon fire could be heard.
She turned her head and looked at the others and thought about what the best course of action would be "Understood, we'll cause some noise when we get to the core. It should be enough to send of swarms our way if nothing else" she said calmly.
"What are we going to do against the swarms?" Jacob asked her just as quickly, She turned to answer him but before she could the ground under them rumbled as the platform started to rise into the air and move down the large tunnel.
"We'll be gone by the time they get here" she brushed off, already knowing that they'll have to make use of the teleportation pads on Genesis.
"Solid copy. And hurry up would ya!" was all Williams said before the radio went silent.
"Team three, what about you? What's going on?" she asked into the radio and waited.
"Ye... I re...u...…...'re in s...nel head...rds th...ta centre. I...uld be mu...er til...w...et...re" The words that sounded female were incredibly patchy and Miranda couldn't make heads or tails of it.
"Team three, do you read me?" she asked them.
"I...d..." was all they heard before the com cut off completely.
"Damit" she cursed "Everyone be advised, we've lost contact with team three. Some type of interference is blocking transmissions to them" she said to everyone on an open com.
"Without them then this entire attack is a waste of time" Thane said as he placed both his hands behind his back and looked out over the tunnel they were now passing.
"All their vital signs are still green" she said back, though it was more to herself than the others "We have to trust that they know what they're doing. EDI what can you tell us? What are all these tubes for?" she asked the A.I who was still kneeling in front of the platform controlled.
"Based on this platform limited sensor data" she started and it wasn't hard to tell that by platform she meant her new body and not what they were all standing on "All those tubes are used to transport and filter all the organic material that was collected from the human colonies. They seem to be feeding into some kind of unknown super-structure that is located at the same point of the energy sign..." she trailed off as the platform started to go through a narrow point in the tunnel.
"What is it?" Jacob asked wondering why she stopped speaking.
"I made a mistake" she said quickly before standing up and turning to face the others, When she did so Miranda and everyone else were surprised to see that the A.I new face had a look of both confusion and fear. Like she was finding something out that she didn't like "The energy signature we're heading towards is emitting both organic and non-organic signatures" All the others turned away from the walls and tubes to look at her "due to it being such a powerful signature I thought it would be the stations core but based on everything that we now know and the information that I am receiving. If my calculations are correct, the superstructure... is a Reaper"
Miranda frowned as she heard the news, they were building a Reaper in here? Was that what the organic material was for? They were melting down her people for that? The thought angered her more than she would have thought "Not just any Reaper" the sound of Jacobs's voice interrupted her thought. Each and every one of them turned to see what he was talking about, only for they themselves to notice that the platform was slowing down as it had now reached the central chamber.
Hanging there in the middle of it like a half-built corpse was the reason for all of this misery "A human Reaper" Miranda finished for him. It seemed like the Reaper was only half built in construction, there was no outer shell and its inner core, similar to the one they saw of the derelict was exposed for them all to see. It had no legs, only the lower half of a torso with what seemed to be the end of the spine going a little further down than that, two arms were clamped onto the ceiling, no doubt keeping it suspended in place. What was out of place on the human shell was four large tubes that were pressed into the shoulders, They were full of an orange liquid, but it didn't stay that way. When she tried to get a closer look, all the liquid was squeezed out and... injected? Into the Reaper shell.
"It appears that the Collectors are using the human material for the construction. Based on what I know, the number is in the tens of thousands. Significantly more will be required to complete the Reaper" EDI continued to tell them.
"I can't wait to see it blow up" Grunt grinned as cocked his shotgun.
"Not how I would have put it but this changes little, the mission is the same" Thane added.
Miranda thought for a moment about what was being said "EDI, you said that you got confused about the station's core because the Reaper's energy signature was so powerful, correct?" she asked the A.I.
"Yes ma'am" she said back with a nod.
"So, the argument could be made that blowing the Reaper could cause even more damage to the station" she added looking at the A.I but also the others, waiting for one of them to object.
"Yes, it could, but it also presents a great deal of more problems" EDI started "The main one being that we do not possess the weapons to break through the shield of that core, even in the weakened state that it's in. And would not be able to set charges on it and have time to vacate the area in order to survive the explosion, as stated, the shell is too tough for that. Then there is the possibility that Clark would want this Reaper intact so it could be used for study at a later date" Miranda outrighted and wanted to say that it wasn't true but that would be lying.
Clark is many things and being driven by a desire for understanding seems to be one of them, keeping the Reaper intact for him to look into himself is of course something he would want. Though truthfully Miranda didn't think this was something that she be allowed to remain as it was, the very existence of it was a disgrace as far as she was concerned. She was well aware that the only way for the deaths of all those people to mean something was for them to get something out of this and a deep understanding of how to build a Reaper was definitely something big. She must have been hanging around the others for too long and developed a stronger sense of morality than she thought.
After taking moments to think about the situation, she spoke "EDI, is there a way for us to meet up with team two?" she asked.
EDI was quiet for a moment before she spoke "There are multiple entrances and exits to this chamber" She nodded her head left to right and as none had noticed earlier for a good reason of course, there were multiple tunnels heading into this chamber "that one there should take us within walking distance of team two"
She nodded "Get us there" She then turned to face the others "The missions changed, we're meeting up with team two and taking the command centres, Once that's done, we'll establish contact with Clark and use Genesis weapons to destroy the whole station. The Reaper included" No one objected to the news though Grunt was grumbling that he couldn't fight the large death robot.
As the platform started to move down the tunnel on the right, Jacob moved over towards her "And if Clark doesn't want to destroy the half-built Reaper?" he asked her.
She looked at him for a moment before answering "Then I'll be very cross with him" she said with a frown before looking at the weapon on his back. She rolled her eyes with a sigh "Before I forget" she moved forward and grabbed the rocket launcher. The others all watched on confused at what she was doing, kneeling she took aim and fired the weapon. It wasn't heading for the Reaper itself but instead one of the tubes that connected to its shoulder.
Thankfully it proved to be not as strong as the Reaper. The entire tube shattered, causing the Reaper's whole body to lurch slightly. Standing back up she handed the launcher back to Jacob and the others all looked at her confused "What? We needed to get rid of the swarms, remember?" she asked them before turning back forward to look ahead down the tunnel they were now moving into.
"I... will hold on...for as long... as I can" Samara grunted with deep breaths as she fell to her knees, her arms waying but still up and the biotic field around her keeping the team safe from the swarms that still tried to get through it and attack them.
"PEOPLE! WE ARE RUNNING OUT OF TIME!" Garrus shouted as he took cover next to the Asari, trying to cover her with his own form. Though not before wishing Grunt was here to do it for him.
"What else can we do!?" Tali asked from behind her cover as she quickly stood up and fired her shotgun, being the short-ranged weapon that it was it didn't head far and the rounds only grazed the armour the Collectors were on the other side of the bridge.
The chamber they were in now was by far the largest they'd seen since arriving, they stood on one side of a large cavern. Large orange bulbous-like objects hugged the walls that provided light to the area and allowed them all to see, though the sheer amount within the Seeker swarms did a good job of blocking out the light.
As they all took cover and fired at the Collectors who mustered up a large defence on the other side and were annoying good at keeping them at bay, even with the Marauders standing all around them and firing on the enemy they seemed to be holding well enough. As the machines made to cross the bridge the Collector weapons seemed to have very little effect against them and the Seeker swarm's stasis effect had even less.
The reason for the ineffectiveness of it was that on the other side of the bridge, it wasn't just the door to the control room and that was it. A large walkway went on either side of the wall next to the door to the control room and seemed to go on for a while, in all honesty it remained Garrus of the architecture on Omega. Like a city built on a mountain, just not as large. Though it was still large enough for there to be over a thousand of the Collectors to fire at them, even with the Marauders who seem to never miss a shot, the rate of fire coming at them was just too much for them to risk running across.
Then of course there were the floating platforms that came at them from both directions and stopped on either side of the bridge, giving the enemy even more firepower to use against them.
"Mordin, any ideas?" Garrus asked the Salarian who was kneeling next to Samara and injecting her with something, he assumed it was some type of biotic or energy booster he'd never heard about and couldn't pronounce even if he did.
The doctor looked away from Samara for a moment before raising his pistol and firing at the enemy "No, need stronger weapons to break through the door, won't be able to do anything if the Swarms aren't dealt with soon" he said back quickly.
As if by some divine intervention, the ground all shook around them. Each of them had to kneel and try to steady themselves, Mordin falling over as he tried to keep Samara balanced. But he proved unable to and combined with her near exhaustion, it finally happened. The Asari fell to the ground and the biotic field around them faded away to nothing.
Garrus let out a curse as he prepared for the bite and stasis field to take over them, however much to his and everyone else shock, the swarms all left the area and moved as one massive cloud "This is team two, we need an extraction. Samara is down and unable to continue, do you read?" he said through his radio.
Mordin quickly got up and dragged the Justiciar to cover so she wouldn't fall victim to stray shots from the enemy. As if knowing what he was going to request before he even made it, the wall just above the door they entered from blew open, scattering large chunks of debris and dust everywhere, temporally blinding the team.
"MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM" the large sound knocked them all out of their daze and they turned their weapons towards the sound, however they froze at the sight.
Standing just in front of the team and surrounded by the still advancing Marauders, was a large figure. A machine but one they didn't recognize. Its body was large, at least twenty-five feet in height, standing on thick legs that thudded the ground with every step. Its body was made out of what looked like the same metal as the Marauders. A small head was on top of the machine In between, what he could guess were heavy shoulder plates that were used for armour, with a single blue ocular unit but what got Garrus's attention the most would be the weapons. Just under the shoulders where arms would be, held two large cannons that pointed outwards. He didn't even want to guess what the weapons fired.
"I read you Garrus" Clark's voice came in through the com, The Reapers out here are more stubborn than I would have thought "I can't help you just yet, but that's what this guy is for. Team two, meet 'the Knight' unit. This should help out fine"
"MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM" it... said?
"I can't risk a teleport just yet, for Samara will just have to make do with Mordin, Good luck" he said before the radio cut out again.
Without waiting for any type of order, the Knight started to step forward and raised its two large cannons and much to Garrus's and his teams no doubt shock and awe, two more smaller weapons came out of the Knights shoulder, and it started to fire. They all had to cover their faces as the shockwave from the weapons nearly pushed them back. However, when they did look up again, they could see that the sealed door to the Control room had been blown open. He didn't waste the chance "ALRIGHT! Move forward! Use the Knight for cover!" he ordered.
The others all nodded and started to move out of cover and walk forward with the Knight, firing their weapons as they did so. Before Garrus himself did though, he quickly moved and grabbed the shoulder of a Marauder who had stopped firing "You! And you!" he pointed to another "Stay here and protect those two"
He was thankful that they listened, as one they both nodded at him and moved over to Mordin who was doing his best to treat Samara for her exhaustion and whatever side effects may come over taxing Biotics.
With that said he turned and started to move over the bridge as well.
When he took the small fraction of a second, he had for free time, he looked back towards the Collector station and saw it as a raging inferno hovering calmly in the void, large fires sprouted out of it and fired outwards. Being fuelled by the gas pipes that allowed the flames to fire in the vacuum of space, he could see that the 3D map they had of the station's interior was expanding, telling them that the Marauders were advancing and didn't seem to be having any difficulty.
Knowing that the mission on the station was proceeding as planned, Clark turned his attention back to the enemies in front of him. His hands were moving over the controls on both his armrests they were blurs to the normal eye. Each one worked in tandem with his neural link as he made the issued commands throughout the ship, something he had to do without Kelex's help.
Out of the fifteen Sovereign-class ships that arrived in the system, only six of them remained and twenty of the ships that were smaller but were also definitely Reaper in design and function. One of the first things he did was give them the designation of 'destroyer-class'. They seemed to be using the Sovereign class ships as cover from Genesis's weapons, allowing them to get closer. Which worked for more than he would have liked.
However that didn't mean they were escaping his counterattack on them unscathed. Whatever shields the Reapers had were much more powerful than anything else in the galaxy but that only helped them from the first volley. The second, they seemed to place more of their power into speed and thrusters as they no doubt attempted to dodge the weapons instead of tanking them, the wiser choice.
Unfortunately, that meant that Clark had to make all the calculations and predictions of where he needed to aim all the weapons Genesis had on the fly to try and hit them. Something that proved to be a challenge for him, if he had Kelex's assistance in the matter then he did not doubt that this fight would already be over, but they both made the choice that Kelex's attention would be better used guarding the firewalls and stopping all hacking attempts while at the same time coordinating the Marauders on the station.
It was the right call to make as based on the small headache Clark was feeling at the back of his mind, every single Reaper ship was currently attempting to hack into the ship and take it over.
Though Clark wouldn't want Reapers anywhere near Genesis, their being closer does present an opportunity for him. Namely the closer they were, the less chance he had of missing. Something that was proved true as another Sovereign class ship fell prey to the Rail guns while three of the destroyers found themselves melted by plasma fire.
Feeling a type of pressure land on him, he looked through the cameras and saw that the closest Sovereign class was able to land on Genesis and opened fire with its primary weapon. If one would look, one would see that the legs of the Reaper were stopped from touching the hull of Genesis due to the multi-layer of glowing hexagon-like patterns that made up the ship's shields. Even while standing on it and the red beam that made up the Reaper's strongest weapons, not enough damage was done to bring them down.
Needless to say, that a Reaper being stationary and standing on top of the ship made it a large target. It didn't last any longer than the others and quickly found its shields brought down and its shell ripped apart by the cannon fire. All the smaller fighter-type drones that they deployed, designated 'Oculus' while numerous were very weak compared to the other ships. While using all the smaller anti-fighter weapons was a pain in the ass to do, especially when adding in all the larger cannons as well. Thankfully they were very weak, so it only took a couple of hits to bring them down.
All the while the rest of the Reaper ships were closing in on him. Not that he would just take it lying down of course. Over the course of the next three minutes, the rest of the Reaper ships found themselves overwhelmed by Genesis's weapons and systematically destroyed. Even one Sovereign class ship tried to sneak under the ship in an attempt to avoid the heavier fire from above but all they did was fall victim to the power toe cables that smashed through the hull of wrapped around it, crushing it like a large snake.
When it was all over, Clark immediately started to calm down as he could feel the weight from his mind being lifted as Kelex started to lend its own hand back towards him to ease the burden "I must say that these Reapers and far more proficient than previously believed" it said to him as Genesis started to turn back around towards the station.
"Will it be a problem if we have to face the rest of them?" he asked back, hoping it wouldn't be too big of an issue.
"If we had no time to prepare then I would suggest a retreat but now we have time, I would like to create several V.I's to place on strategic points of the ship's firewalls. I shall create them with the extensive knowledge of the Reaper's preferred hacking tools to prevent myself from being too grogged down by them in the future" it told him.
Clark took a moment to think about it, it wasn't the worst idea and these V.I's could be used again in the future or changed to fight off other types of hacking attempts from who knows what else they could find throughout space "Alright then, get to it. I'll start looking into these Reaper bodies that we just got, might be something useful that could be salvaged from them" he added, sending out numerous probes towards the wrecks 'If you knew you were going to die. How would you live your life differently?' he heard Lois ask him.
Turning his eyes away from the cameras of the ship he turned them back to his own head and looked in front of him. There she was, standing looking at him closely, her dark orange hair waving slightly as she hovered in the air "Now is not the time" he whispered to himself more than her. But her figure didn't move away from him, instead, she moved closer towards him.
A hand slowly reached out the cup his cheek, he was so entranced by the thought that he could feel her again that he nearly made him forget what was at stake, his mind flashed back to the station and who was inside of it. He turned his head away from the hand "I can't let my feelings get in the way of this. Leave" he turned back to look at her and found that she was gone.
