Hey everyone!
So, this was meant to go up around the time of my birthday but, in typical LSH fashion, things didn't work out and I was occupied for most of my birthday and then I headed down to my dad's house for the week. I may well be writing fic for NaNoWriMo next month to help keep up the momentum with writing as Cosy Season starts. It's my favourite time of the year.
Hope you're all doing well.
Lots of love,
LSH xx
A Wild Heart – Part 12:
Éowyn woke up the next morning and looked around. It took her a few moments before she remembered where she was. In a tent with her… She turned towards her sister's bed and instantly sat up. Éowara's bed was empty. She rose from her bed and walked around the tent before going to check on the horses. There were only two: Roheryn and Windfola.
She hurried back inside the tent and to Aragorn calling his name until he woke up. The King sat up as he looked at Éowyn.
"What is it? Has someone tried to attack us?" he asked as he rose from his bed and Éowyn turned her back to him, "Éowyn you can turn around and look at me…" he said watching as Éowyn turned to look at him, "now what has happened?"
"Nobody is trying to attack us. Éowara is missing. She's not in her bed and Gléoda is missing as well," Éowyn spoke before Aragorn moved quickly to look at Éowara's bed.
"It looks barely slept in… she must have gone soon after we fell asleep," Aragorn spoke.
"But where would she go? There are not many places she could go here. She knows the land and where we were heading but she would not arrive in Edoras alone making Éomer fear for our safety," Éowyn spoke.
Aragorn stared at the empty bed before a thought struck him.
"She's gone to Parth Galen… Amon Hen. She's gone to see where Boromir fell at last," he said before moving to dress quickly. Éowyn did the same before they met outside the tent.
"I will go and seek the Lady Éowara with three soldiers whilst two of you remain here with the Lady Éowyn," Aragorn spoke before the leader of the Wild Men appeared. Aragorn went to speak with him before a private conversation was held and then he mounted his horse, "the Wild Men will assist the guard as well. I know where she has gone," he said, "we'll be back," he said before he and three of the soldiers took off to the north.
Aragorn wondered what could have possessed Éowara to venture so far north but he also realised that her questions having been answered about Boromir's death may well have sent her north as well. He cursed himself under his breath for having told her about Boromir's death.
The journey to the north slowed as they reached water and Aragorn carefully led the way through the water until they were through it. He kept the pace fast but not too fast, knowing that Éowara could have been anywhere.
Something was telling him where she could have been found and he headed to the spot Boromir had fallen and there stood Gléoda watching and protecting his rider. Aragorn dismounted from his horse and slowly made his way over to Éowara. He stroked the horse's back softly, speaking to him in Elvish before kneeling down in front of Éowara, feeling her head.
"She's like ice. I need to get her back to the tent," Aragorn said before remounting Roheryn, removing his cloak and asked for Éowara to be passed to him. He wrapped his cloak around her, holding her close against him, Gléoda coming to his side before they set off again.
The ride back was taken a slightly different way so they would not be slowed by the water as Aragorn wanted to get Éowara near a fire as soon as possible. He looked down at her and saw how peaceful she looked as she slept in his arms. He had half been expecting her to wake up at some point… but that moment never came.
Éowyn was soon out of the tent as she heard horses stopping outside and saw her sister in Aragorn's arms and wrapped in his cloak. He sat with her down by the now roaring fire.
"If she is harmed in any way…"
"She is unharmed," Aragorn spoke, "cold but unharmed. She was out there for most of the night."
"You should not have told her about how he died, where he died," Éowyn said, "she had the answers and then took off because she needed to see the place he fell."
"He was her fiancé. She had every right to know the truth. She's no longer a little girl," he said.
Éowyn looked at him before remaining silent, eyes on her sister. She knew Aragorn was right but she also had wanted to protect Éowara from the whole brutality of the truth about how he'd died. She was learning that her sister's love for Boromir had run deeper than she and Éomer had ever known, something the two would have to discuss with their younger sister when they were together in Edoras.
It was a while later when Aragorn finally began to feel movement and he looked down to see Éowara waking up. He felt her head and could feel it was warm.
"What were you thinking going off like that?" Éowyn spoke as soon as her sister was sat up, "anything could have happened to you."
Éowara just sighed before having some of the food and drink offered to her, ignoring her sister, much to Éowyn's annoyance. Éowara was not going to speak to her sister at all after having been spoken to as soon as she'd woken up.
"Éowara what were you thinking? Your sister is right… anything could have happened to you," Aragorn spoke as he glanced at Éowyn, "we were worried about you and you shouldn't have gone alone."
"I had to see for myself… something was calling me there and I couldn't fight it. I didn't want to fight it," Éowara spoke quietly as she spoke to him and she looked down at her bowl of food, "he died there and now I know how I had to see it for myself. I was going to be back before you both woke up but I fell asleep. Gléoda would have woken me should the need have arose," she said.
"We shall make way to Aldburg and that will be our next resting place," Aragorn spoke, "I think that would be best," he said before Éowyn nodded in agreement, wanting to get to Rohan and Éomer.
