Author's Notes: First, I'd like to thank you so much for taking the time to even glance at this story and for reading this part.

I would like to preface this with a Lynncoln Warning and that this is a reimagining of sorts of the 2016-18 story by 1vanth30s0m3, Keeping it in the Family. This story holds a special place in my heart as it is one first stories I fell in love with in this fandom, mostly due to the fact that it has a conclusion. A satisfying one at that, that's what makes it special to me. This story has inspired me to skin it alive and infuse my own layer of storytelling to it.

I highly recommend you read the original story by 1vanth30s0m3 if you haven't already. For those of you that have read the original, I hope you stick around because I guarantee you that this story has a few twists and changes from the original to keep things fresh and it won't leave you disappointed. To give readers a good size of story to sample and see if they like it or not, I have decided to post the first three chapters all at once to give you guys something to chew on. Comments and reviews are appreciated, tell me how I ruined the original or that incest is bad. I know it is and I do not condone it, more AN after chapter 3.

Please enjoy Keeping in the Family (2023)

Chapter 1: Someone like Him or Him?

The different shades of orange and white covered the sky as the sun was getting ready to set on Royal Woods, enough light was still available for a five year old boy to play outside. A white haired toddler with an orange stripped T shirt walked out on his house porch, his eight year old sister with brown pigtails and buck teeth watched her young brother from the living room window.

The boy closed his eyes as the summer sun kissed his freckles cheeks as he walked down the porch steps, the brunette girl smiled at the adorable sight of her little brother. Unfortunately in closing his eyes, the boy missed the last step and fell to the harsh pavement. The older sister's instincts sprang into action as she ran towards her little brother outside.

The small boy sat and held his knee, the sight of scraped blood brought tears and worries to the child. The sister came to his aid with a wet wipe and a clown nose, she sat by her brother and soothed his worries. "Don't Worry, Lincoln. Dr. Luan is here to make you feel better." Luan wiped the dirt from Lincoln's wounded knee, the boy flinched and pulled his knee away. The girl understood and smiled, "Do you hear that?" The toddler seamed confused and listened until his sister honked her clown nose, it brought a smile to the boy's face with a chuckle.

Luan took the opportunity to clean Lincoln's knee, she honked her nose again with crossed eyes to distract the boy even more. The toddler was enjoying himself too much to notice any pain, Luan left the wet wipe on the porch step and wiped her hands on her shirt. Lincoln still seemed a little worried of his scraped knee, "Luan, Mommy always kisses my booboos to make them feel better."

Luan looked towards the house and back at her little brother with an apologetic look, "Sorry, Lincoln. Mommy's at work right now." The toddler's eyes watered until his sister came up with a quick resolve, Luan kissed Lincoln's knee herself. "Did that make it feel better?" Lincoln shook his head enthusiastically as he got up to his feet, Luan was excited to see her little brother happy again. The sister's excitement was short lived as another sister jumped over her from behind the porch steps, her younger sister with a red and white jersey landed in front of her.

Lincoln voiced his excitement when he saw his sister closest to his age, "Lynn, wanna play tag?" The seven year old brunette didn't acknowledge her older sister with the clown nose, "Okay, you're it." Luan watched as the young Lincoln and Lynn ran toward the backyard and left her alone in the front yard, Luan took her clown nose off and just gripped tightly as her fist started to shake in anger.

Six Years Later:

Lynn is sitting on the couch watching tv with a Lions sport hat and matching Lions flag in hand, the athlete watches with anticipation as her team and the opponents are neck and neck. Lynn is hyper focused on the screen until she sees the color white and orange in the corner of her eye, Lynn quickly glances over and sees Lincoln standing by the couch.

"Hey, Lynn. I was just wondering, how much longer your game is gonna be?" Lynn brings her eyes back and sees the game only has a few minutes left, "It'll over soon, I just need the Lions to clutch these last few minutes." Lincoln sits next to his sister to wait out the next few minutes, "Are the Lions winning?" Lynn's whole body shakes on the couch cushion, "Not yet, I just need Goff to tough it out."

Lincoln looked over at his sports clad older sister, "Did you do your ritual?" Lynn kept her eyes on the screen as she answered her brother, "Of course, I can't take any chances during the finals." Lynn watches her football team running until she heard Lincoln's voice from the ground, "Go, Lions Go! Go, Lions Go."

Lynn chuckled as she watched Lincoln reverse crab walking back and forth on the carpet, Lincoln attempts mimicking a Lions roar as he tried to stand on his hands, "What the heck are you doing, Stinkoln?" The white haired boy's arms couldn't support his wait and he collapsed onto his face, he sat up and rubbed his forehead. "I was trying to add more Luck by doing your ritual too, did it work?"

The athlete just smiled and shook her head at her little brother on the ground, "You blockhead, It only works when I-" Lincoln and Lynn look at the tv when a hefty voice announces, "-And The Detroit Lions take it home!" Lynn pulls Lincoln off the carpet and embraces him with a hug, "We did it, Linc!" Lincoln is slowly getting crushed by his sister's arms, "It was nothing, can I watch tv now?"

The excited brunette releases her brother and tosses him the remote, "Here ya go, thanks for the luck Linc." Lincoln catches the remote and changes the tv from cheering sports fans to paranormal investigators, the boy notices his sister is remaining in her place and not leaving. Lincoln fears his sister will make fun of him for watching ARGGH! but he's instead met with intrigue from his sister.

Lynn appears to be legitimately watching and getting into Lincoln's paranormal show until she remembers something relevant, "Hey, Lincoln. Don't you usually watch this show with Clyde?" Lincoln sinks into the couch as she hears the question, "Yeah, but him and his Dads are gonna be road tripping for the summer."

The athlete stammers as she didn't think her brother's best friend being gone would have an effect on him like that, "Oh, Sorry about that Lincoln." Lincoln slouches as he watches the paranormal program, "It's fine, Lynn. Just gonna have to see how I'm gonna spend the summer."

Lynn nodded as she looked at Lincoln, "You and me, Both. No plans or sports for me this summer." Lincoln cocks his head at the information, "No sports? At all?" Lynn just shrugs as she returns her eyes to the man with night vision goggles on the tv, "All the coaches decided to take the summer off and go to Vegas or something. Principal Ramirez took it as a pay break and didn't hire any other coaches."

Lincoln thinks to himself as he watches the tv, "Hey, Lynn. Do you wanna go outside and maybe play something." Lynn chuckles and looks over at him, "Lincoln, don't you think we're a little too old to play tag." The boy just rolls his eyes with a smirk, "I meant like a sport or something." Lynn waves him off and continues to watch tv, "Like you'll ever want to play a sport, remember when Mom signed you up for football." Lincoln turns off the tv with the remote, "Don't remind me, you got hurt and I wussed out the whole season. Now things are different, let's just do something to pass the time since we're both bored." Lynn immediately stands up and yanks Lincoln by the hand and leads him to the backyard, "Okay, if you say so."

In the backyard, Lynn stretches as she informs Lincoln of the activity she has in mind. "Alright, Stinkoln. Since I accidentally popped every ball I own, sports are out of the question. Fortunately for you that leaves us with calisthenics." Lincoln gulps at the idea of push ups and pull up, especially when being compared to a triathlete. "We'll start slow with clapping push ups." Lincoln is already starting to regret this.

Upstairs in the house a young teen girl with thick pony tail and braces knocks on Lincoln's door, "Hey, Lincoln. I just finished some new material, I hope you're not drinking anything because it's gonna squirt out-" Luan opens the converted linen closet to emptiness, "-your nose." The comedian wimpers out those last two words.

Luan returns to her shared room and paces the room with her left hand on her forehead and notepad and pencil in her right hand, "Where could Lincoln be?" The comedian's ear pick up on the sound of laughter coming from the backyard, she looks out the window and cringes at the sight before her.

The comedian watches Lincoln sitting on Lynn's back as she's doing push ups, "-Eighteen, Nineteen, Twenty." Lincoln hops off his sister and cheers for her, Lynn brushes the dirt and grass off her hands and stands on her knees. The athlete kisses her biceps and points at her brother, "Alright, Your turn." Lincoln's face drops from the joy.

Luan snarls at the sight in front of her, the comedian's grip is firm on the pencil in her shaking fist. The comedian clenches her teeth and flares her nostrils in absolute and familiar anger, her grip increases and the pencil snaps in half. Luan pulls her curtains shut and walks away from the window, she tries to ignore the activities outside.

Lynn is squatting in front of Lincoln while he struggles with push ups, "-Seven, Eight, Come on, Lincoln, Nine…" Lincoln's face is red as he struggles to push himself up off the grass, "-Ten!" The boy collapses on the green grass as Lynn pats her back, "Good job, Stinkoln. That was a heck of a warmup, Huh?" Lincoln groans and rolls to his side, "Warmup? I'm ready for the cool down." Lynn bends at the waist and drags Lincoln by his arms towards the tree in the backyard, she props Lincoln on the bark and sits next to him.

The athlete lets her brow rest his arms and catch his breath, "Don't worry about the workout, it's my rest day anyway." Lincoln starts to slow down his exaggerated breathing, "Why don't you workout with any of your friends when you're bored?" Lynn blows up her bangs out of her eyes, "Well… Paula broke her right leg and can't workout for a bit, Pauly is athletic but isn't one for weights or crazy calisthenics and Margo… she's busy with her boyfriend."

Lincoln doesn't hear Lynn's voice shake as she hides it by clearing her throat, Lynn looks at Lincoln and forces a smile with a punch to his shoulder. "What about you, Stinkoln? Are you still talking to that Santiago girl?" Lincoln rubs his shoulder from the pain and nervousness, "Yeah, Actually. We've been talking a lot recently. You remember when Lori got mad at me for saying mean things about Ronnie Anne at school?" Lynn nods with a smirk, "Yeah, I remember. She made you go on weird double date and you dressed like a Jehovah's Witness."

Lincoln grimaces at the comment and small laughter from his sister, "Anyway, we kissed and we started dating since then." Lynn's laughter ceases and she feels an unexpected amount of pain in her chest, not physically but she feels discomfort knowing that Lincoln is officially dating. "Oh, That's great. I Uh- still need to beat her up for giving you that black eye." Lincoln sighs in relief, "Thanks, Lynn but it's all water under the bridge. Those steaks I cooked you were from her, she gave me them for the eye and a note with a heart on it."

Lynn feels an unrecognized amount of sadness, "She sounds like a total catch" Lincoln looks over and sees his sister looking down with gloomy eyes, "Hey, don't be sad. I'm sure that Fransisco kid, will come around." The athlete tries to disguise her sadness with carelessness, "Eh, He's dating Margo anyways." Lincoln catches the crack in Lynn voice as she continues, "Doesn't mean anything to me, they're happy together and… that's all I could hope, right?"

Lincoln looks at his sister's tough exterior slipping and smiles at her, "I'm sure you'll find someone soon, Lynn. Mom and Dad didn't meet until they were almost adults." Lynn perks up slightly and shoves Lincoln's shoulder, "I'm not worried about anything, and you're just saying that since you're my brother." the boy thinks honestly about the statement, "I'm not just saying that, I mean it. If I weren't your brother I'd still think you'd be pretty cool."

Lynn thinks about the hypothetical and asks her brother with sincerity, "Do you think, we'd be friends if we weren't related?" Lincoln looks at his sister with a relaxed tone, "Of course we would, you see how much we get along now? I don't see why we wouldn't." The athlete knows this isn't true, their lack of shared interest would be more than apparent if they never lived together, "I'd hope so but-"

"Kids, Dinners gonna be ready in a few minutes. Come in and wash up." The two hear their father and Lincoln stands up and brushes the dirt from his pants, he offers Lynn a hand and she pauses. The athlete thinks to herself, "I'd honestly love to be with someone like Lincoln or maybe even-" Lynn quickly takes his hand and stands up, "Alright, Stinkoln. Let's not keep Dad waiting. Maybe we should do something tomorrow, if you're not too sore." Lincoln scratches the back of his neck as they walk towards the back door, "Actually, I'm gonna hangout with Ronnie Anne, but if you want we can do something when I come back." The athlete felt that emotional discomfort amplify hearing that name again and that she's a priority, "Sure thing, Linc."

Later that Night

After an ordinary dinner without deeper thought, Lynn plops herself into bed and wraps herself in her blanket. The athletic sighs in relief as she closes her eyes and allows for the next day to begin, that is until her mind returns to her thought about Lincoln. "Of course I'd like a guy like Lincoln, he's just great. Lincoln might be an ass sometimes but his moments for sweetness really shine, like the time he let me sleep in his room when me and Lucy fought, that time he dressed up as Ace Savy and helped me with my bike, or that time he wanted us to do something nice for Mr. Grouse on Christmas, or that time Lincoln… ALRIGHT!That's enough about Lincoln. He's sweet, that's why I'd love to have someone like Lincoln."

Lynn feels a warmth in her chest the longer she contemplates this hard question, "Someone like Lincoln or… Lincoln?" The athlete puts her hand on her chest and feels her beating heart increase in speed, her smile slowly rises with her blushing cheeks. After a moment, Lynn's eyes shoot open and her look of delight turns to one of fear.

"Oh, No."
