Chapter 2: Hidden Secrets Revealed. - embry

Embry felt the mashed potatoes go soggy in his mouth.

"…what?" he asked as he stared at his mother with wide eyes.

"I said, im ready to tell you about your father. your eighteen now, I don't care what you'd do with the information." His mother said as she put out her cigarette on the kitchen table.

Embry swallowed his food and sat up. He suddenly felt nauseous. It was Joshua Uley. He just knew it. He was the only one that made sense.

And if it was Joshua Uley, it would lessen the tension between him and Quil. Quil wouldn't have to worry about his dead dad being a cheater. Besides, Sam wasn't bad. He'd make a decent big brother. He had met Sam a few times before he sucked Quill and Jacob into his gang. Embry wouldn't exactly call it a gang, they weren't exactly doing anything wrong.

They seemed to be making things better. Helping out the community and whatnot. But it didn't hurt any less that his best friends abandoned him.

"Ok…so…who is it?" he asked as he pushed his plate away.

His mother sighed and lit another cigarette.

"Its…Billy Black."

Embry felt his stomach roll.

No. no. it couldn't be…but then that meant that Jacob-

Embry couldn't make it to the toilet, he had to puke in the sink.

"Oh, come on Embry! Not the sink!" His mother yelled.

Embry rinsed his mouth out before he sneered at her.

"Are you serious? You tell me that Billy Black is my father! the chief of the tribe and you are concerned about the sink?"

His mother shrugged.

"It is what it is, Embry. No point in crying about it. Billy is happily married with three children. There is no room for you over there. He doesn't want you. Heck, I didn't want you. but here we are."

Embry shook his head. All these years.

He needed air.

"Im, telling you don't go bothering them! It's no use!" his mother shouted.

But Embry ignored her. he needed air and he needed to see Billy Black.

His mother's voice became faint as he ran towards the Blackhouse. He didn't live too far from Jacob which made it even worse.

They grew up together, side by side since they were in diapers. What would Jacob do now that he found out?

Embry shook his head as he approached the front porch.

He wouldn't do that. He wouldn't tell Jacob. At least not yet.

Taking a deep breath, Embry knocked on the door. He hadn't been here in two months. He used to have dinner with them at least once a week but one day it just stopped.

He stopped being invited over.

Jacob stopped talking to him.

And anytime, he showed up he was turned away.

Embry went to Quill for comfort and maybe some answers, but it had been too late. Quill was just as bad.

He had slammed the door in his face as well.

With a sigh, Embry gathered his courage and knocked on the door.

The red door opened to a surprised Sarah Black. She had a big smile on her face, at least she did until she saw him.

"Oh…Embry…um what are you doing here? You're not supposed to be here." She whispered.

"I need to speak with Chief Black…"

"Im sorry Embry, but he and Jacob are out tonight. They had an emergency over in Forks. They will be out the rest of the night; you'll have to come back some other time."

Embry snorted as he stepped back. He was suddenly feeling hot.

"Yeah, right as if he would answer me. Jacob's been avoiding me for months and so has Quil. Forget I came over here."

Sarah's eyes softened as she looked at him.

"Embry….is there anything I can do for you?"

Embry shook his head.

"No thanks, Mrs. Black. I just really needed to see the chief."

"Can I ask what it was about?" she asked.

Embry shook his head and stepped further away.

"Just some personal stuff. Goodnight."

As he began to walk away, she stopped him.

"Did Tiffany finally tell you who your father was?"

Embry whipped around in surprise. But this time Sarah Black wasn't smiling. She was looking at Embry in disdain.

"…He doesn't want you, Embry. He has his own life. He has a real family. You're the last thing he needs or wants. Now leave."

With that said Sarah black slammed the door in his face.

Embry was stunned but most of all he was angry. His body felt like he was on fire and his bones hurt.

He had to take deep breaths to calm himself.

What was he going to do? His mother didn't want him. His father didn't want him and neither did his friends.

What was he supposed to do?

Embry felt himself shake as he began to walk around the reservation. All these people. Living their happy lives.

He stopped as he came upon his house.

It was dark and empty. Just like how he felt inside.

His mother's car wasn't parked in the driveway which meant she had left. Of course, she did. His mother walked away from anything hard.

Maybe it was time for Embry to do the same.

He was quick to pack his suitcase and grab the cash he had saved up from under the floorboard. Any amount of money he was given, whether it was from working in yards or cars, he hid it and saved it.

2,000 was all he had to his name. he put the suitcase in the corner of his room, alongside the bundle of cash.

He had one more month of School. As soon as he graduated, he was out of there.

"Embry Call!" his principal called.

A small applause was let out as he walked across the stage.

From the corner of his eye, he saw Chief Black sitting at the very front of the room. It was tradition for him to be at every graduation and to give some kind of blessing.

Looking out further, he saw that his mother wasn't there, which is what he expected to happen.

He took his diploma and made his way out of the school building. He didn't care for throwing the cap in the air and all that extra. He had plans of his own.

As soon as he made it outside a voice called him.

"Embry?"

He turned around to find Chief Black.

"Chief black."

"Leaving so soon?"

"Yeah. No point in staying here."

"You're going to miss the celebrations. Graduating high school is a big accomplishment."

"Yeah." Embry shrugged. What was he supposed to say? The man he had known all his life had lied to him.

"Can I ask you a question, Chief Black?"

"Of course, son. What's up?"

Embry cringed at the term son.

"Are you, my father? I went to your house a month ago and Mrs. Black answered. She said you didn't want anything to do with me. Just tell me the truth. Im not looking for anything. I won't tell anyone. But I need to know. My mother said you were my father and your wife said so in so many words. Now I need the truth."

Chief Black's smile fell as Embry asked the question.

"…I don't know what you're talking about Embry. You must be confused with someone else."

Embry felt his eye twitch. Without saying anything, he walked away.

So, it was true.

Billy was his father, but he didn't want to admit it.

His mother didn't want Embry to have a relationship with him and neither did Sarah Black.

Jacob was his brother and didn't know it.

Without wasting any time. Embry headed home grabbed his suitcase, wrote a letter to his mother, and called a cab.

He was done with everyone lying to him and telling him half-truths.

He just wanted to be free...
