"Hitch! No!" Sunny shouts sadly.
"Hitch..." Alexis says sadly.
"Opaline! She's here!" Misty says in alarm as the group sees Opaline approaching the Crystal Lighthouse with two dragons under her control.
"We have to protect the crystals!" Sunny says.
"Against dragons? How?" Alexis asks worriedly.
"No. I think she's here for our cutie marks. Sunny, Alexis I don't know if I can face her." Misty says worriedly as Alexis and Sunny look at her.
"That must be Lava and Jade! If they get through Twilight's protection spell...!" Sunny says in alarm as Lava and Jade begin breathing fire at the protection spell.
"There's no place left to hide. Once I have you and your friends' cutie mark magic then nopony in Equestria will be able to stop me. That spell can't protect you forever! Dragons! Light it up! More! More!" Opaline shouts as Lava and Jade continue attacking the protection spell.
"Sunny that spell isn't gonna hold forever! The dragon fire is way too strong." Alexis says worriedly.
"I'm afraid you're right Alexis! Misty, Alexis I need you both to promise me! If I can't stop her you have to take the Unity Crystals and... M-Misty?" Sunny asks as she and Alexis notice Misty is gone.
"Where is she?" Alexis asks worriedly.
"Don't stop until you break through!" Opaline shouts as she laughs.
"Hey Opaline! Is this necklace new? It's pretty!" A voice shouts from outside revealing to be Misty wearing Opaline's gold necklace.
"Misty?! Misty! After her!" Opaline shouts before Misty laughs and takes off running as Opaline, Lava and Jade take off after her.
"Misty! Oh no!" Alexis says in alarm before she shifts to wolf form and begins to leave.
"Alexis where are you going?" Sunny asks in alarm.
"To help Misty. I won't let her face Opaline by herself. Not again. Stay safe Sunny." Alexis says as she runs outside after where she saw Opaline, Misty and the dragons take off to.
*Timeskip*
"Misty!? Misty where are you?" Alexis asks as she is running through Zephyr Heights castle in wolf form before hearing commotion outside and seeing Misty outside facing Opaline and the dragons.
"Misty!" Alexis shouts as she runs over growling.
"Alexis?" Misty asks as she looks at Alexis in surprise.
"Get away from her!" Alexis shouts as she growls while standing protectively in front of Misty.
"Hmm. The wolf pony. I hadn't expected you to be so foolish as the others. You've just made it easy for me." Opaline says as she smiles.
"Stay away from Misty." Alexis says as she snarls.
"Oh please. You're the one I'm after here." Opaline says as she begins trying to attack Alexis only for her to dodge it.
"Don't underestimate me!" Alexis shouts as she shoots a moon blast spell at Opaline only for her to block it.
"Well now you're stronger than I thought. What does your cutiemark mean? That you're a mongrel?" Opaline asks as Alexis snarls.
"My cutiemark shows that I am one with the night and my wolf brothers and sisters. It symbolizes that I don't back down!" Alexis shouts as she lunges at Opaline only for Lava to breath fire at her knocking her to the ground with a yelp.
"Alexis! No!" Misty shouts as she runs over to Alexis.
"You put up a good fight much like that little sheriff friend of yours but like him you too are going to fall." Opaline says as she smiles at uses a trap spell on Alexis's legs so she can't move.
"Stop! I won't let you do this to me or my girlfriend and my friends!" Misty shouts as she stands in front of Alexis.
"Your girlfriend and friends? What kind of pony are you to be with a pony like that?" Opaline asks in disgust.
"A smart one. I love Alexis just as she loves me and I won't let you hurt her or the others. They showed me what it means to care about somepony! What it means to fight for someone! I don't regret meeting them or Alexis and I certainly don't regret caring for Alexis like I do." Misty says determinedly as Opaline growls seeing her cutiemark.
"Huh? There's so much you've been hiding from me. Your tree... your friends... your girlfriend... and your cutie mark! And all this time I thought we were friends!" Opaline says angrily as she goes toward Misty.
"No! We weren't! It's so sad. You've got all the power in Equestria and you still haven't ever felt true friendship." Misty says.
"Ha! I have friends!" Opaline says.
"You have to force others to pretend to be your friends! Like me! That's control!" Misty says.
"You ungrateful little pony!" Opaline shouts angrily.
"You were by yourself for so many moons. All alone. I actually feel really sorry for you." Misty says as Alexis looks at her in surprise.
"Wow Misty. All grown up! So empathetic! So kind! I always told you. If you want your cutie mark you have to do what I say. You used to be a good and loyal helper. You can do that again. Hmm?" Opaline asks as she traps Misty in a spell with Alexis as she lifts them both into the air before taking both their cutiemarks.
"You didn't give me my cutie mark Opaline. I earned it by helping my friends. And that's something else you can't take away from me!" Misty says angrily.
"Is that so? I can take whatever I want! Ta-ta!" Opaline shouts angrily as she drops Alexis and Misty before leaving with Lava and Jade through a tree portal.
"Are you okay?" Alexis asks as she helps Misty up.
"Yeah. I'm sorry I couldn't protect you." Misty says sadly.
"Don't be. You know that is the first time you've said I love you to me." Alexis says happily as Misty looks at her.
"Yeah. And I meant it." Misty says as she and Alexis smile.
"Misty! Alexis!" Pipp and Zipp shout as they come running over.
"She took my cutie mark." Misty says sadly.
"And mine." Alexis says as she sighs.
"She took everypony's." Pipp says sadly.
"What are we gonna do without them?" Misty asks.
"Cutie marks aren't the only thing that makes us special." Zipp says as she smiles reassuringly.
"And nopony can take away what makes us special on the inside." Pipp says as she smiles.
"You said that." Zipp says.
"But I just feel so helpless." Misty says as Queen Haven and other ponies begin to come over.
"H-Hey! Get away from the tree! You'll make Opaline stronger!" Zipp shouts.
"Zipp are you sure about that?" Alexis asks as she looks at a photo on Zipp's phone.
"Of course I'm sure! We know that the trees are connected! And then the roots... They're leeching the power from the ponies!" Zipp says.
"I think we might have it backwards. Look. Do those ponies look like they're losing their powers? No. They look happy!" Pipp says as she looks at the photo with Zipp and Misty.
"Like their happiness is what gives the trees their power?" Zipp asks.
"Their friendship! This tree right here! It grew out of the true friendship you ponies showed me on the day of the Cutie Blossom Bash!" Misty says.
"And the tree in Maretime Bay! It grew when all of us worked together!" Pipp says happily.
"The ponies' unity powers the trees! We have to tell Sunny before it's too late!" Zipp says.
"There's no way we can get there faster than Opaline! How are we gonna tell her?!" Misty asks.
"We could... just call." Pipp says as she takes out her phone.
"Oh. Right." Misty says as she and Alexis chuckle.
"Hello? Hello?!" Hitch says as he, Izzy and Sunny pick up the call as Pipp calls them.
"Ah-yell-o!" Izzy shouts.
"Pipp! Are you all okay?!" Sunny asks in alarm.
"I sang a song to distract Opaline and it almost worked!" Pipp says.
"We have a new plan. Instead of staying away from the trees we need everypony in Equestria to join together at them." Zipp says.
"We might not have cutie mark magic anymore but Opaline can't take our friendships." Misty says.
"Our friendships are what make us strong." Alexis says.
"And that's true pony magic." Pipp says.
"Zipp I trust your instincts. Hitch gather the Maretime Bay ponies! Zipp, Pipp, Alexis and Misty I want you round up Zephyr Heights! Izzy?" Sunny asks.
"Bridlewood ponies to the Wishing Tree! On it!" Izzy shouts.
"I know you ponies can do it. I'm going to Opaline. Alone." Sunny says determinedly.
"What?!" Hitch asks in alarm.
"No!" Alexis and Misty shout.
"Sunny you can't!" Alexis says.
"It's too dangerous!" Pipp shouts.
"Nopony is alone who has friends. I'll be okay. Hoof to heart." Sunny says as she smiles reassuringly.
"Hoof to heart." The group says as they hang up the call.

"Now what do we do?" Alexis asks as everyone is gathered at the tree.
"Wait I guess." Misty says.
"Hey. You guys hear that?" Alexis asks as she and the others hearing voices singing coming from the tree.
"It's the others. They're singing." Pipp says as she smiles.

"Huh?" Zipp asks as she, Alexis, Misty and Pipp find themselves suddenly disappearing and reappearing with Hitch and Izzy at a bridge where a new tree is grown and Sunny and the dragon are waiting.
"Oh look! We're here!" Izzy says happily.
"And it worked!" Hitch says happily as the group laughs and cheers.
"Sunny! I still cannot believe you went and faced Opaline alone!" Pipp says.
"You were amazing Sunny." Alexis says happily.
"I wasn't alone. You were all with me in my heart. And you never lost hope. We did it together." Sunny says.
"Again we are so sorry we fell under the spell of an evil villain and terrorized you ponies like that. That's our bad." Jade says as she and Lava give apologetic looks.
"Happens to the best of us." Misty says.
"Hey buddy. I heard you were very brave in there." Hitch says as he goes over to Sparky.
"Not just brave. A hero!" Spike says proudly.
"I know he's supposed to grow up with the dragons. But I'll miss you every day Sparkeroni." Hitch says sadly as he hugs Sparky.
"You know what Hitch? Sparky knows better than us." Spike says as Hitch places Sparky on the ground.
"Huh? H... Home!" Sparky says as he smiles and gurgles at Hitch before hugging him.
"See? I know that he's in very good hooves with you Hitch. We have always had a lot to learn from each other." Spike says as he chuckles.
"I guess that means we'll be seeing you soon?" Sunny asks.
"Perhaps. Goodbye until then." Spike says as he and the other dragons fly off.
"Who would've ever thought that Opaline's creepy old lair could turn into something this beautiful?" Zipp asks as everyone looks at the tree.
"With true unity magic everything looks beautiful!" Misty says happily.
"That it does." Alexis says as she smiles at Misty.
"Come on everyone. I'd say we've well earned a celebration." Sunny says as everyone cheers happily and leaves.
