Barked
Chapter 14: A Dog Gone Chase
Danny and Star were about to lose it right now as they still couldn't find the two rambunctious dogs.
The other members of Team Phantom were uneasy too as they searched. They still couldn't find either of them.
"Where are they? You'd think it be easy to find to find a green dog that can become as big as a monster truck?!..." Star asked, looking on edge.
"Keep looking, we gotta find Cujo and Fifi before those Dorks In White do!..." Danny said, worried about them.
The other Team Phantom members were still looking for the dogs, with less success then our favorite teen lovebirds.
"Do you think they went back to the club?..." Tucker suggested.
"I don't know. Maybe...They're probably looking for food or something..."Sam said.
"If that happens, I'd better be human since the security system is still running..." Danny said as everyone else nodded.
"Good idea, Danny..." Star said in agreement.
Danny transformed back into his human form as soon as he stepped on the clubs ground.
"Come on, Star and I will check the the club's kitchen. As for everyone else, Tucker and Sam will search for them in the meat locker and Jazz checks the restroom in case they go for a drink..." He said, hoping Cujo would listen to them when they find him.
"The things I do for animal rights..." Sam said, hating the location she was given.
"At least you won't have to check the bathrooms. Whatever, at least they keep them clean..." Jazz said while the others nodded.
Team Phantom soon left to search other areas, unaware that a certain duo of inept ghost hunters were were also looking for Cujo...but for less ethical reasons.
Meanwhile
With the doggy lovebirds finally at a safe distance from the country club, Cujo soon landed at an open field that wasn't occupied by any other human on sight.
"Are you okay, Fifi?..." Cujo asked, concerned.
"Yes, Cujo. I'm perfectly alright, but I'm more concerned about you. How are you holding up?..." Fifi said, feeling relieved that they managed to escape the country club.
Even so, she was still worried about her special ghost mutt's well-being.
"I'm okay..." He said, as they observed their surroundings.
The two dogs admired the area and began lowering their faces to get a good sniff of their surrounding to get a better picture of where exactly they are. As he did so, Fifi spoke up.
"Seriously? Are you feeling okay, Cujo?..." Fifi asked, concerned for his well-being.
"I'm fine..." He insisted, as he trying to look tough in front of Fifi.
The cute little poodle then noticed something a small cut on Cujo.
"You have a wound on your paw..." She said, worried.
"Huh? Oh..." Cujo said, finally noticing.
"Oh, you poor thing. This is my fault, you wouldn't have gotten hurt if I had been more aware..." She said, feeling guilty.
"Easy there Beautiful, don't go pinning all of the blame on yourself. Remember, I came to your rescue and getting a little scratched up is no big deal for me..." Cujo said as he calmed her nerves down a little.
"For real, this is nothing. I barely got hurt..." Cujo said, still trying to look tough.
"Still...at least let me help a bit..." She said as she got closer to him.
She began to lick his injured paw, using the all trusty dog medical 'lick it till it feels better' remedy. Cujo felt his heart sped up as she tried to treat his wound in her own way.
"Wow...that sure felt nice..." He thought, his heart all a flutter. "I'll tell her about my regenerative ability later..." He thought as she finished licking his paw.
"Feeling better?..." Fifi asked.
"Much, thanks..." Cujo said, appreciating it despite that it wasn't needed.
Fifi smiled at that.
"Thank goodness, , I was worried. I wouldn't want you to get worse because of me..." She said, happy to be of help.
Suddenly, their special moment together was interrupted when rumbling bushes was heard.
Both dogs panicked.
"Oh no, what now?!..." Fifi went, while Cujo stood in front of her in a protective manner.
"Stay behind me!..." He went, ready to defend his loved one.
It was the Guys in White, who had some noticed scratches on their bodies and rips and stains on their clothes.
"Agent Alpha won't like it, especially if we try to out this on the company's laundry bill!..." K shouted.
"We're already doing things he won't like, this is the least likely to get us fired!..." O said, losing balance and the two walking fire hydrants fell.
They managed to get up, and walk again, but noticed more filth on their clothes.
"Starting to wish were were the Guys in Flannel shirts..." O muttered.
They got away, yet failed to leave without damage to their bodies and tears to their clothes.
"Ow…that hurt..." Agent K said, rubbing his head before turning to his partner. "You had to make her mad, did you?..." He snarled, recalling an incident that happened in their way here.
They managed to get away from the club, only to bump into someone on their way out...someone they acted her rude to and it ended with them receiving a few bruises as a parting gift from that encounter since that person took up wrestling as a hobby.
"You were the one who mistook her for a man!..." Agent O snapped back, feeling his spine ache from the power bomb that female wrestler did.
"Let me remind you, you weren't the one was given the airplane spinner for a simple mistake that anyone could have made!..." Agent K said, still not thinking he was in the wrong for mistake for the woman's identification.
"But I was suplexed for trying to come to your aid and defending you!..." Agent O responded as he tries to message his neck.
He then saw Cujo and Fifi looking at them. They blinked at each other, before the GiW stood up and aimed their weapons at Cujo.
"Freeze!..." They both shouted.
Cujo, not liking those weird toys and having his moment with Fifi interrupted, growled before rushing towards the two agents.
They fired at him, but Cujo was fast and nimble, easily dodging their terribly aimed shots. He headbutted Agent K, before he ran under Agent O's legs and bit his butt.
"AAAOOGH!..." Agent O cried as he spun around in place, trying to get Cujo off his butt.
Agent K, who was holding his gut, saw his partner's problem, so he aimed his gun and waited. Once he got a clear shot, he fired, but Cujo let go, and the blast hit Agent O's butt, making him jump up and down in pain, holding his smoking butt.
"OW! What on Earth are you aiming for, Agent K?!..." O asked as he continued jumping around in pain.
"Don't yell at me, just get that monster mutt!..." Agent K shouted, pointing at Cujo, tired of being reprimanded.
Before Agent K can react, Cujo tackled him and started biting his face. Agent O, wincing from his poorly abused butt, glared at Cujo and aimed his gun, but before he could fire, Fifi bit his hand, making him shout in pain as he started shaking his hand, trying to get her off.
"GET OFF!..." Agent O exclaimed as he grabbed her by the scruff and pulled, finally managing to pry her off.
"Stupid mutt! You're making me look bad!..." Agent O shout as he then proceeded to pull Fifi off him by yanking her fur.
Cujo, seeing Fifi being manhandled by Agent O, stopped biting Agent K and barked at Agent O.
"GET AWAY FROM HER!..." He barked, snarling more ferociously now.
Surprised, Agent O noticed that Cujo's gaze was at Fifi, so he moved her around, seeing his gaze following her.
"Oh, so this your girlfriend, huh?..." He taunted before he aimed a blaster at Cujo. "If you don't want her to get hurt, you bet-...AGH!..."
Suddenly, Fifi bit his arm, and out of surprise, he slammed her to the ground, making her whine in pain. Cujo's eyes widened as he heard Fifi whimper, before they glowed red as he growled menacingly.
"They'll pay for this!..." He thought, rage building up as he growled in a savage way.
Agent K slowly snuck up behind him with an anti-ghost net and swung.
"Aha! Got you!..." He cheered for himself before he felt himself being lifted into the air as Cujo growled menacingly at Agent O, revealing his big and sharp fangs.
"Since when could this no-name ghost mutt use telekinesis?!..." Agent K loudly asked as he too was being lifted by Cujo's menacing yet powerful growling.
"Who cares how or when it could do that?! Just shoot it down!..." Agent O shouted in a panic.
Cujo and Fifi both understood that and decided to flee, which caused the government agents to fall into thorny bushes and further damaging their clothes.
Clearly, this day was not kind to them or what they wore.
The operatives were particularly upset because, since it wasn't an official assignment, they would have to pay the bill out of their own pockets.
"Terrific. They got away again...and our clothes are totally ruined!..." K muttered.
"Your telling me. I can't believe how pricier the cleaners have gotten these days. Heck, my ex-wife is still upset about the last laundry bill..." Operative O said.
"You were married?..." K asked, since this is the first he heard of it.
"Why do you think I devote myself to work so much? That and she has custody over my girls... gotta prove I'm okay to see them somehow..."He said.
"Maybe not okay right now. Look at us..." K said as the two agents both tried to wipe themselves clean.
"I'm still trying to prove to my parents that this is a real job and that I'm making something of myself..." He added, as they both had something personal to prove to certain people in their respective lives.
Which give them both a great motivation to continue their work within the GiW. That and the massive debt they still have to pay off.
"Let's find that ghost dog, so we can perform painful experiments on it, get promoted, make enough cash to clear out debts...and I can rub my success in Trudy's face!..."O said, referring to his ex wife.
"Yes...gotta catch that monster...and show my old man that I made the right choice in not becoming some boring, run of the mill accountant at the family's firm..."K said as they thought about their personal woes.
"I'm sensing issues you don't wanna talk about..." O said as they continued to search.
"Oh, you're one to talk!..." K snapped, O not responding as they resumed.
Now, they were ready to bring in much bigger guns since they weren't done with Cujo just yet.
Not at all.
Elsewhere
Danny, Star and the others were still looking for Cujo and Fifi, with no luck at finding either dog.
They returned to the country club, but couldn't find the two dogs. It was frustrating.
"I can't find them anywhere..." Star said, having checked the dining area but didn't see either pooch there.
"We couldn't find them either..." Jazz said, frustrated.
"I can't believe I looked inside a meat locker for nothing...ugh!..." Sam said, shuddering in disgust.
"Focus..." Danny said, agitated.
This was like looking for a needle in a haystack, only the needle keeps moving around and never stays in one place .
"This is getting us no where. I'm gonna try and get a bird's eye view again..." Danny said, hoping that scanning the city in the air will lead to better results.
"Yeah, maybe that could work..." Star said, hoping that her boyfriend will have better luck by using his ghost powers.
Danny was about to go ghost, but someone spotted them before he could.
"Star, Danny, children!..."Stella's voice was heard as she ran to them.
"It's my/your mom!..." Star and Danny both went as Stella and her husband approached them.
"Act natural..." Sam whispered to the others, trying to act inconspicuous.
"Are you kids alright? We were so worried..." Stella said, sounding concerned.
"Speak for yourself..." Jean Luc thought with disinterest, clearly showing how little he truly cares while everyone else spoke.
"We're fine, Mom..." Star said.
"Yeah..." Tucker said, as Sam and Jazz nodded.
"Yeah, perfectly peachy..." Danny said, happy that he didn't transform and risk getting caught by them.
"The last thing I need is someone finding out about my powers, especially if they are connected to Colette..." He thought, mentally preying that he'll never have to go through that anytime soon.
"Have you kids seen Fifi? She's missing. She was with us, but then she ran away in a panic..." Stella said.
"She was spirited away from that green mutant mongrel who destroyed one of the only socially acceptable spots in this backwater town!..." Jean Luc said, still being resentful of Amity Park.
Danny frowned at that, as did Star and the others. They were all unamused by his attitude. Neither of them liked the way snotty rich man talked about Cujo or their hometown.
"I still can't believe she actually left Mr. Strong for this walking stereotype that is less charming than a skunk..." Danny thought, still not fully understanding that logic of Star's Mother's thought process when making that choice.
"Jerk..." Tucker thought it, frowning.
"I can see where Colette gets her attitude from..." Sam thought, narrowing her eyes at him.
"Another example of how NOT to act as an adult..." Jazz thought, irritated by him.
"Cujo is not a mutant mongrel, you home wreaking pig! He's is an adorable furry war tank..." Star thought as her mother continued where she left off.
Stella was agitated, worried and panicking, acting all frazzled while Pierre looked on innocently in her arms.
"This is a disaster! I just don't understand it! Fifi actually chose to run in the same direction of that beast! What could she be thinking?!..." Stella said, completely worried about the well-being of her precious dog.
"Wasn't thinking because she is an animal! A high-class one, perhaps but still an animal. They don't know better..." Jean Luc complained, getting glared from the teens.
"How could you say such thing?! Fifi could be out there all alone and freezing for we know! Or she might have been eaten by that ghost monster!..." Stella said, sounding upset about her missing pet.
"Then she should have done what all domesticated dogs do, staying close to their masters and obeyed their every command..." Jean Luc argued.
"Okay...I didn't think I could hate this guy anymore than I already did...but now I do..." Sam muttered, while Star looked enraged.
"Hey, don't talk about Fifi like that! She has feelings and she is clearly better behaved than you are!..." Star snapped, angry with his words.
Not that's a new feeling regarding Jean-Luc.
"Star!.." Stella went.
Not wanting to stay quiet about this any longer, Star walked up and spoke to her mother.
"I think I know why Fifi ran away. I saw the look in her eye and she didn't want to be part of that dog pedigree couples meeting..."Star said.
"What?..."Stella asked, confused as to how her daughter knew about her dog's emotional state more than she could.
"Mom, haven't you noticed that Fifi hasn't been acting like herself today? I have. It's like she doesn't want to leave Cuj-...I mean...that ghost dog's side..." Star said.
"What do you mean?..." Stella asked, confused by her words.
Star sighed before it became a groan, rolling her eyes at her mother's cluelessness.
"It's times like this that I'm glad that I only got Mom's looks and nothing else..." She thought as she decided to be frank with her biological mother.
"Just hear me out, Mom. Please. Just think. You guys tried to set her up with that fancy pants show-dog, but it was clear that she didn't even like him, let alone see him as mate material..."Star said, recalling how down Fifi seemed earlier.
"And honestly, I can't blame her..." Jazz said, and Sam nodded.
"What do you mean that she didn't like him?..."Stella asked, still a bit confused on what was going on.
Star then sighed again, knowing that she'll have to spell it for her mother.
"Mom...Fifi might be a "show dog", but she is still a regular dog on the inside and she doesn't want to being treated any differently from one..." Star said getting her mother's attention.
"She always acts more like herself at home. Fifi is a lot more expressive and energetic when she's happy to see someone or if she wants to play. But when you and Jean-Puke started treating her like an object rather than a dog and sending her to breed with that walking trophy dog, she looked like she was almost about to fall asleep out both boredom and neglect..." She said, fully understanding the situation.
"Neglect?..." Stella asked in confusion, not seeing the mistake she's made yet.
"Yes, neglect. Something I can relate with Fifi..." Star said, sounding bitter.
Stella flinched at that while her daughter continued to state her case.
"It's obvious she didn't like the dog you guys chose for her and that she doesn't want to leave that little green dog's side..." Star said, hands together as visual representation of the two.
"She... doesn't?..." Stella asked, sounding stunned and at a loss, surprised that her daughter noticed this before she could.
"Your pet poodle probably followed the green ghost dog to play with him, they clearly liked and enjoyed being with each other. I'm sure of it..."Danny said, recalling how happy Cujo and Fifi are around each other.
Star nodded.
"Yeah. Heck, I don't think I've ever seen her this happy, not in a long time..." Star said, smiling for Fifi's joy.
"She clearly wasn't happy until he showed up..." Star said.
"Duh, plus no poor animal likes being forced to have so many expensive chemicals slathered into their fur and be dressed up like some doll just to be showed off like some trophy! Or be forced to breed in a canine version of an arranged marriage!..." Sam said, her animal lover instincts acting up, as well as genuine sympathy as a part of her could related to Fifi's plight.
Jean Luc heard this and got angry.
"It is none of your business how we raise our pets, you hippy girl who is incapable of acting like a proper blue blood!..." He snapped.
"Shut up! If how you treat your dog is the same as your parenting, no wonder she ran away!..." Sam snapped.
"Sam?..." Stella asked, shocked.
"Mom, Sam is right. Plus, you clearly haven't been considering Fifi's feelings when you made all these decisions for her. You mistook what she wanted because of what you wanted..." She criticized.
"You...think so?..." Stella asked, and her daughter nodded.
"I do. Here is the facts, she didn't like being ordered by your husband. Not to mention that you tried to hook-up Fifi with this sorry excuse for a dog that looks more like an overstuffed puppet..." Star said.
The Barrington couple, who were still within ear shot, heard this and were offended.
"EXCUSE ME?! How dare you talk about our darling Winthrop like that?!..." Madame Barrington shouted.
"Do you have any inkling on how rare of a pure breed out Winthrop is?! Or who WE are?!..."Her husband asked, as he grew mad.
Star rolled her eyes.
"You two don't scare me! I saw a ghostly T-rex at the mall last week..." The blonde girl said, unfazed by the angry looks on the Barrington couple's faces.
"ESTELLE! Enough! You cannot speak to your betters that way! Now apologize!..." Jean Luc said, angry that she was being so rude to his clients and worried that this might affect future business transactions.
Star just glared at him.
"You are NOT my dad and can't tell me what to do! Just go back to brown-nosing the Barringtons and their overly pampered dog, you overdressed skunk who is way worse than that cartoon skunk. Now either sit tight or flirt with Mrs. Barrington into leaving her husband, something you're good at!..." She said rudely while her mother cringed.
"How dare you?!..." Jean Luc snapped, angry and insulted.
"You scare me even less than your snobby friends do!..." Star said defiantly as Danny smirked.
"That's my Starlight..." He thought proudly.
"Nice one..." Sam said, impressed.
"Star..." Stella tried to speak up but failed to calm her daughter down.
"I am NOT taking back what I said, Mom. I just hope you at least listen to what I said about Fifi..." Her daughter said, making it clear that she wasn't going to change her mind on the subject.
Stella was silent right now, while her husband was fuming.
The older blonde woman was still thinking back what Star said about her treatments towards Fifi.
"Why am I getting the strangest feeling of deja vu?..." She thought, feeling like she has had this conversation with her daughter before.
She was nearly as clueless about this as Danny about Sam's feelings. Now, upon being bluntly told by her daughter of this same clueless neglect, it made her question if she's doing the same to her dog.
"Could Star be right about Fifi?..." She thought, recalling her actions.
Before anyone could speak another word, a loud howling explosion could be heard coming from outside.
KABOOM!
This caught everything attention, but for slightly different reasons. Some were relieved, others were terrified.
"Sacre bleu!..." Jean Luc said, nearly losing his footing in the process.
"Now what?!..." Stella asked, anxious at the sounds.
They all ran out and saw the explosion's reason by the country club's decorative water fountain.
It was the dogs.
"It's Cujo and Fifi!..." Star said, relieved to see them.
"Finally!..." Danny said, also relieved.
"Thank goodness..." Sam said.
However, it was short lived once they saw a duo of morons chasing after a green ghost dog. And making a path of destruction in their path.
"And... those two..." Star said in disappointment.
"Not them again..." Jazz complained.
Danny saw Cujo transform and groaned.
"Not again..." He complained.
He tried to find a way to get away from the adults and transform, but found himself surrounded by a small crowd that block any getaway for him to use.
"The one time I actually want people to be scared off by a single ghost and now people decide to crowd around one like it's a street fight..." Danny thought, cursing his own rotten luck.
He wanted to find a place to go ghost, but there is too many people nearby and he couldn't.
"One of the downsides of Star's mom being rich, she finds ways of getting us into a big crowd..."He thought.
" Run!..."Star shouted, acting afraid, mostly to get them away from the adults by pretending to be scared.
"Good thinking..." Danny whispered to her as they ran.
"You can thank me later. We got work to do right now..." Star said, as she tried to help Danny find a secluded place for him to 'Go Ghost' in.
"We best hurry..." She whispered, not wanting to lose track of Cujo and Fifi again.
"There's got to be one somewhere that secluded enough for Danny-boo to take charge of the situation, but where?..." Star thought, while trying not to lose track of her mother's dog and Cujo.
Meanwhile
The fight between the GiWs and Cujo was getting a lot more rowdy, which caused more damages done to the surrounding area.
Fifi did her best to stay out of harm's way and to keep track of Cujo, in case he hurts himself.
"Win, Cujo! Stop these guys who seem to like getting their clothes dirty!..." She called out to him.
"WILL DO!..." Cujo barked, before he became aggressive again and continued attacking the so called ghost hunters.
"Heel, you stupid mutt!..." K shouted as he fired again, but Cujo moved to fast and dodged it.
Fifi saw this and barked excitedly.
"Way the go, Cujo!..." She cheered, while one of her owners spotted her and got upset.
Cujo used his tail to swat the two agents away, making them crash into a nearby hedge. Danny and Star saw this and despite the situation, they grinned.
"Oh, that is fun for me..." Danny said, as the agents struggled to get out.
"Me too..." Star said, as they continued to find a hiding spot.
"Ditto..." Tucker said, as the others agreed.
Jean Luc, however, was angrily yelling at the two Operatives.
"What do you think you're doing, you government deadbeats?!..." The French snob snarled. "Can't you see that monstrosity has my one of a kind breed poodle dog?! If you so much as harm her, I'll be sure to sue you!..." He threatened.
"Sir, stay out of our way. We're professionals and we know what we're doing..."Operative K said annoyed.
"What you're doing is missing your target!..." Jean Luc snarled. "A blonde monkey would have better aim than you two idiots!..." He criticized.
"Sir, we won't warn you again. STAY OUT of our way or you'll suffer the consequences for interfering with official Guys in White business..."Operative O said darkly.
The arrogant French man however didn't listen or care what they had to say, he wasn't about to let some lowly mongrel take away his purebred poodle.
"Give me that, you incompetent American! Clearly the months I spend every summer with my college friends in Spain were more than just for fun..." Jean Luc said as he rudely grabbed the low tech weapon from one of the operatives.
"Hey! That's government property!..." Operative K said.
Jean-Luc didn't care as he took aim.
Star and Danny panicked when they saw this.
"Oh no, we gotta stop him!..." Star said, but it was too late.
"Zhis is for getting in the way of my social and financial business!..." He shouted as he and shot Cujo right on the right foot.
"AROOOO!..." Cujo yelped out, whining in pain as he began to fall face first and then barrel rolling on the floor in pain, accidentally destroying anything that was in his way.
Unfortunately as a result meant that meant that Fifi was catapulted into the ceiling and due to the gravity, began falling into the floor.
"AHURP!..." Fifi yelped out as she fell.
"FIFI!..." Stella yelled out, horrified at her potential fate.
"OH MY GOSH!..."Star shouted, equally horrified by what she was witnessing.
" Oh man!..."Danny let out.
Danny on his part couldn't transform with so many people watching, but that didn't mean he was out of the game. So he ran as far as he could and jumped, briefly making his eyes glow green and using his powers to make it seem as if he was still jumping, but in actuality he floated briefly just on the nick of time to hold onto the falling Fifi.
"I got you!..." He exclaimed, upon catching her.
Both teenager and dog felled to the floor and landed on the ghost boy's back, a little worse for wear but both were still somewhat okay.
"You okay?..." Danny asked as he held her.
Fifi smiled, and barked happily at him.
"Merci, nice mate of Madam's only good daughter!..." Fifi barked before she licked his cheek.
Danny smiled.
"I'm assuming that's a thank you...you're welcome..." He said, as he petted her while Cujo saw this.
"Fifi...she's okay. Thank goodness..." The green dog thought in relief, glad she's safe.
Stella and Star ran over to them, both for their dog and Star for Danny. They were glad they're safe.
"Danny Boo!..." Star said, concerned while also glad he saved Fifi. "Are you OK?..." She asked, wanting to be sure.
"I'm fine, so is our little friend here..." Her boyfriend replied.
Fifi began barking, before affectionately licking Danny's face as is to thank him for saving her.
It was a nice sensation. One that wasn't ignored by Star's mother at all.
"Oh Fifi! You're OK!..." Stella said, holding onto her dog. "Thank you, Danny!..." She said in gratitud.
Before the Ghost Boy could reply, everyone heard a whimper, they all turned around, seeing the huge ghost dog, had became smaller.
"CUJO!..."Fifi barked in shock/concern.
She raced towards him, ignoring even her master calling out for her.
" Fifi?!..."Stella called out but she was ignored by her beloved pet.
That same pet, who ran to the ghostly dog's side.
