A Quick Dip
Standing at the edge of the water, Lance stared out. He was quite done with taking a rest. It was time to swim!
And yet, why did he not go into the water? He had heard of the killer shark situation that turned out to be a harmless hammerhead rather than something dangerous like a great white or a bull or… Whatever the other three dangerous sharks were. He could not rightly remember. He had only watched that episode of "Eyewitness" once or twice. What were the other three? Tiger, blue and basking? No, that wasn't right. The basking shark was a gentle giant, a filter feeder. The horn? The wobbegong? No, those were harmless as well, the horn only being three feet or so long and the wobbegong wasn't much bigger and was like, to quote the narrator of "Seasons in the Sea", "a sinister flying carpet." Was it the whale? No, the whale shark was a filter feeder too.
Hammerhead, great white, bull, tiger, blue, basking, horn, wobbegong, whale, which was he missing? Megamouth? No, that wasn't it. Goblin? No, that wasn't it either. Which species was he missing? Leopard? No, that was a small species also.
Sighing, Lance looked skyward in exasperation. Whoever this friend of Rikki's was who worked at the oceanic center was, they must have known who the five dangerous species of sharks were.
"You just gonna stand there or are you actually going to go in?"
Lance turned and looked at Rikki, an amused look in her eye. "Just thinking about sharks." He answered.
"You're fine, Lance." Rikki assured him. "The only shark around here is a hammerhead."
Lance could only stare with raised eyebrow. Just a hammerhead? That didn't sound right. There had to be other kinds, didn't there?
"R-Really?" Lance asked. "Just a hammerhead, not a school of them? No horns?"
Confused, Rikki inquired: "No horns? What are you looking for? Sharks that play the trumpet?"
Smiling and holding back a laugh, Lance could only nod. That wasn't bad. Still, the horn shark was an obscure species. Unless a species made it big in some movie, no one was going to know about them. The only reason he knew was due to his family having "Seasons in the Sea" on VHS. His family also used to have the "Microsoft Dangerous Creatures" CD, so he knew some other shark species from that… Maybe. He was pretty sure that the only one he knew from that, which wasn't covered in "Seasons in the Sea" was the whale shark.
Kneeling, Lance scooped up some water in his right hand and threw it at Rikki. Her response was to quickly move from her towel and exclaim: "Lance!"
His own response was simply to remark: "Relax, its just water. It never hurt anyone, except for people with water allergies."
And with that, Lance proceeded to walk into the water.
