Magnet for Trouble
By Rey
Chapter summary: An all-round exhausted Kote is a bitter and vindictive Kote. It doesn't help corral the progressing events back to the track of what they wish those to be, though.
52. Clearing Up, Part 2
Rix is drenched, as expected, riding on a swoop in a storm like that.
Just as expected, they are not alone. Lidi Davh, who was apparently still in town when the storm hit instead of back home a town over, is the one steering the swoop.
`Here goes the end of the anonymity and obscurity,` Kote laments even as they invite both into their home, update Ruusaan about their latest guests, and end up opening a live channel on their HUD for their spouse to see through.
"What should we tell them about the children?" they whinge to the said spouse via the internal comms even as they lead the two latest newcomers down the path that is now a mudfield to the… residential area. `Ka'ra, I haven't even gotten used to the dorms instead of one single house yet!`
"The truth, apparently," Ruusaan sighs across the commline, even as Rix fretfully inquires about the wellbeing of the "two youths" they went here for.
`Those brats do not deserve Rix,` Kote grumbles to themself, even as they give Ruusaan an acknowledging hum, before they toggle to the external speaker and tell Rix that the Jedi are all right if currently naked while waiting for their clothing to dry.
Lidi's shocked and flabbergasted squawk is beautiful.
Rix own exasperated and offended squawk makes Kote preen.
It is almost worth braving the storm twice, and dealing with stubborn children who not only cling to their caretakers but also to the Jedi snoops, and bracing against the near-future revelation of what has been going on in the farm these last… months? Years?
Speaking of those, though, "I gave the Jedi several rules, and I want you to obey those too while you are here."
"But we are not Jedi!" Lidi yowls, offended.
Kote tones down their bitterness a little and admits, "No, but the situation in our home right now is delicate, and we do not want word spread out yet, especially to undesirable people."
"What is wrong?" Rix straightens up and sticks their head out towards Kote's own swoop, apparently a reflexive response to their own alarm.
Wrong move. It unbalances their swoop in addition to what the wind has achieved, and Lidi curses them even as the togorian frantically corrals the skidding and swaying vehicle.
Well, it also allows Kote to gather their thoughts and muster their emotions, so they let the bickering duo be for a while. Besides, Ruusaan is digging into the respective backgrounds of the Jedi at the moment, and Kote needs to listen in to this vital piece of information.
Sadly, however, Lidi is apparently a superb biker, for they manage to steady the swoop while Ruusaan is just in the beginning stage of the questioning, even with Rix flailing like a madbeing like that. So, reluctantly, Kote drags their attention away and back to their own companions.
"Rules," they insist to the grumbling duo cutting laboriously through the storm beside them. "No recordings of any kind. No communication with outside until you leave. No mention to anyone in any way about what you find here even after that. Children's lives are likely in danger if this gets out. Oh, and no commanding them to do things, too, except in life-or-death situations. Or even touching them, if they do not give you permission."
Oh, how flummoxed the newcomers are!
