I do not own RWBY or Warhammer. They belong to their respective owners.
I also have a discord. discord. gg/9ah46GFzbn. This one is a bit dead, so I'll invite ya'll to a discord server I am part of. It's a fanfic server with a couple thousand people on it. discord .gg/wd3tUYWVCd It's got the space in it since FFN is a bit weird about links. If the link says it's expired, either add me on discord (the_commissar13) or pm me here and I'll get you a fresh link and change the ones here.
Block by Block
Nothing was worse, in Andrei's opinion, than urban warfare. Room, by room, building by building, block by block, bloody attrition was the name of the game. Small squads of shock troopers and regular soldiers were sent into the fray. Some came back, and even more didn't. Whether they remained in the city, fighting on, or were dead was hard to tell. The CCT was still down, leading to large dark zones in communications. Entire squads would disappear only to reappear again for scant seconds.
What made the whole thing worse was that there were no defined battle lines. Only pockets that shifted as they chased each other in circles, ambushing, flanking and counter flanking each other in a chaotic mess that left logistics dead in a ditch and communications a bygone dream. Truely, an amazing example of urban warfare.
Andrei himself wasn't allowed to actually go into battle due to him being the highest ranking officer in the army. And even then, most of his men would just follow him wherever he went, making the whole point of small squads to attack the grimm pointless. The good news of the situation is that all of the white fang had either fled or been destroyed, and the androids had run out of power, making the entire battle a man vs. daemon battle.
"Sir, the CCT is back online. The General would like to speak with you."
"Give me the Vox. General?"
"Colonel Kuznetsov. What is your status?"
"Sir, I am alive and well. My men currently have a firm hold on the CCT and Beacon academy. We are slowly retaking the city."
"Colonel, you are to get all of your men and evacuate the area. The city is deemed lost and all recovery is too costly."
"But sir, we are making progress against the filth. I only need a few months."
"That is a few months to many, I am-" Andrei walked away from the vox unit before the general could finish his sentence.
"Technician, I want you to either dial down the CCT to only affect the city or shut it down entirely."
"Sir?"
"The General thinks this city is lost. I know we can take it back. It will take time, but we will do it."
"I'll get right on it sir."
"Good, officially, the CCT is too damaged to reach the General anymore, are we clear?"
"Yes sir, crystal."
"Good, you are dismissed."
The technician saluted before turning and running over to the CCT. Andrei sighed in annoyance. It would take a bit longer than a few months to retake the entire city, but they would do it. Andrei currently had one operational airship, several bullheads and mantas, a small assortment of students from several huntsman academies, and about a regiment and a half to work with. It would be grueling work, but they could push the daemons out of the city. The only real thing that could stop the retaking of the city was the General coming down in person to collect the troops.
Luckily, the General would probably be stuck in the never ending wave of bureaucracy that was Atlas. Stuck fixing fuck up after fuck up ranging from atlas mechs being stolen, to the automated troops being hacked. It would buy them time, especially since with the CCT "down" he wouldn't be able to get into contact with anyone near them. Andrei was well aware that he would be raked through the fire as well once he was done here but couldn't bring himself to care. It would be well worth it for the vengeance delivered for those that perished in the city.
A castle stood in a dark and desolate place. Its black halls matched the darkness outside as red clouds swirled over inky black pools. Inside, Salem, the black queen of the grimm seethed. Cinder was dead, her cohorts executed soon after, the White Fang were scattered, and more importantly, she was feeling her grimm getting exterminated in Vale. It was supposed to be an easy and decisive victory. Now though, the silver eyed warrior was alive, the fall maiden somewhere in the world, her wyvern was dead, and humanity still stood defiant. The only good thing that came of the whole situation was Ozma also met his end, but it was an empty platitude. He would be back, weaker, but still strong enough to cause problems. What worried her more at the moment was the strange human leading the recapture of Vale. Unlike most people, he always felt a large amount of unrelenting rage. Most people tempered emotions to stop grimm from attacking. But the human, he drew them in like moths to a flame, and like a flame, burned them all. He would become a larger thorn if left alive, especially if he took over the Atlas Military.
Looking over at the report Watts had delivered once more she frowned at his semblance. It seemed that Atlas had misunderstood the semblance of Andrei. It wasn't a semblance that turned people into paragons of virtue and humanity, like the name they gave it suggested, Legion of Light. A better name would probably be Indoctrination, as it seemed that the semblance took those that acknowledged Andrei as their leader, consciously or unconsciously, and would slowly adopt Andrei's values and views. It also seemed to use the aura of those in the cohorts to empower itself farther. The fact that many men under the colonel seemed to start emulating him gave Salmen a clear picture of Andrei and his mindset. Wherever Andrei came from, it seemed that they had very little care for human life. They would willingly throw themselves into a meat grinder, hoping to clog it with pure bodies. It also seemed that they had no problem killing other people, which most other people had issues with, meaning Andrei was either heartless, or pragmatic. Once could be a boon for her, the other made her job infinitely harder.
Sighing in annoyance she looked up to see Tyrian and newest recruit talking and giggling together. She didn't exactly like the new recruit, especially since his eyes seemed to wander whenever he thought she wasn't looking, but they needed him. He was apparently aware of where Andrei had popped out from and was very good at corrupting people. Feldrict, as the man in revealing purple armor was called, was also always happy. Whether that was from insanity like Tyrian or the copious amount of drugs that the man had been going through like candy, was anyone's guess. Eventually she broke from her musings and stood.
"Tyrian, Hazel, I need you two to hunt the silver eyed warrior. Feldrict, I need you to either bring Andrei to our cause, or kill him."
"Yes your highness/Hmm/Yes mistress."
Salem allowed herself a self satisfied smile at the obedience of her court. It had taken her a while to groom those under her, and every loss was felt due to their small size. She had dreams of eventually having all human and faunas kind become just like her. Corrupted, bitter, and cursing the gods. She felt that her goals were closer than ever to her at that moment.
She was very, very, wrong.
