Episode 121: Bulbasaur... the Ambassador!
With their excitement from the Whirl Islands and Olivine City behind them, Mew and her friends continue their journey to Ecruteak City. The group is walking up a hill trail until some milk cans are rolling down the hill towards them. Everyone runs away in fright.
Suddenly, someone calls out, "Hey! Stop those milk cans!" who is chasing the milk cans.
Mew and the other stop and do what they can to stop the cans in their tracks.
"They're empty," Brock says.
Soon Mew and the others put them on the driver's truck.
"Thanks for the help. These things are trouble!" The driver says, So, where are you all headed? Into town? The beach?"
"Ecruteak City," Mew says.
Then the driver asks, "Why don't you hop in? I'll get you there in no time."
"Really?" Mew and the kids reply, surprised.
Sometime later, after getting a ride from the driver, Mew and the others reach the airfield.
The driver says, "This blimp will drop us off at the MooMoo Ranch."
"Oh, that's right next to Ecruteak! That'll save us a ton of time!" Brock says.
"And a ton of walking!" Misty says.
"Yay!" The younger kids cheer.
"Thanks a lot, mister," Mew says.
"Call me Carter," The man says, "Let me go pick up the tickets and I'll meet all of you inside."
"Great!" Everyone happily replies.
Soon, the Pokemon are having lunch. Jen is polishing her Suicune Egg,
Mew is on the video phone, "Professor Oak? It's Mew calling." but notices no one is there, "Hello? Are you there? What's going on?"
The video screen shows Professor Oak's lab, but the professor himself is nowhere inside.
Suddenly, a Mr. Mime pops in, "Mime! (Mew!)
"Oh, hello Mr. Mime. I didn't expect you to answer," Mew says.
Soon, Mew hears a familiar voice, "Who is it, Mimey?"
Mr. Mime turns his head, "Mime!" (Look!)
And that someone is Adriana.
She then says, "Well, hello there, Mew."
"Hi Adriana," Mew says.
"I'm so glad you called. How are you and the others doing?" Adriaian asks.
"I'm doing okay, and so is everyone else," Mew says.
And then asks, "But what are you two doing at Professor Oak's laboratory?"
"I don't want to worry you dear, but there has been some trouble in the research garden," Adriana says.
That catches Bulbasaur and Ivysaur's attention.
"Huh? What kind of trouble?" Mew asks, worried.
Soon, Misty, Brock, and Tomo approach.
"Is everything alright?" Misty asks.
Tracey soon comes into view, "Hey! What's up, guys?"
"Tracey!" Mew happily says.
And soon, Zeraora comes into view.
Mew happily says, "Hi papa."
Zerora growls as he waves hello.
And soon, Professor Oak soon steps in, "Oh, what do you know? I was just thinking of you. I'll be needing your assistance on a very important matter."
"Sure thing, Professor. What is it?" Mew asks.
Soon, Professor Oak explains, "Well, Mew, you're familiar with the numerous wild Pokemon who are allowed to roam free in the gardens of my research facility?"
"Yes," Mew says.
Professor Oak explains, "All different types, grass, water, fire, rock, all come to the gardens to live in peace and tranquility. Until last week, that was when a gang of Hoppip, Skiploom and Jumpluff stopped off here on one of their migrations. Soon, they began feuding with some Bellossom, Oddish, Gloom and Vileplume over an area previously inhabited by grass Pokemon. And then, water Pokemon, worried about their area, entered the fray. Before long, we had a three sided battle on our hands!"
"That sounds like a mess, Professor," Mew says.
"Eevee," (A big mess.) Eevee says.
"Bulba. (I'll say.) Bulbasaur agrees.
"Ivysaur," (Sounds awful.) Ivysaur says.
Then Pikachu adds, "Pika." (Terrible.)
"That's why I need to ask a favor," Professor Oak says, "Could I borrow your Bulbasaur for a while?"
"My Bulbasaur?" Mew questions.
"Bulba, saur? (You want, me?) Bulbasaur adds, confused.
Professor Oak nods his head, "At first we thought of heading up the peace process ourselves, but I feel these matters are always best left in Pokemon hands."
"So we thought of your Bulbasaur and how it used to take care of lost Pokemon and figured it might be able to help us out here, as well," Tracey says.
"Okay, hold on," Mew says.
Then turns to Bulbasaur, "Bulbasaur, did you hear that? So, are you up for it?"
"Bulba! Bulbasaur!" (I am! Ready and willing!) Bulbasaur agrees.
"Hey, Professor. You got yourself a deal. I'll send Bulbasaur over right away," Mew says.
Soon enough, Bulbasaur is in his Pokeball and is transported to Professor Oak's lab. Once arrive, Professor Oak picks up the Pokeball and lets Bulbasaur out.
"Bulbasaur!" (Hey, Professor!) Bulbasaur says.
"Good to see you again, Bulbasaur," Professor Oak says.
"Hello there," Adrianan says.
"We're counting on you," Tracy says.
Bulbasaur nods, "Bulba!" (Alright!)
Back at the airfield, Mew and her friends are about to board the blimp. And of course, Team Rocket is spying on them from afar.
"Bingo! I spy the group of little tweprs, Eevee, and Pikachu," Meowth says, but soon notices something, "Hey, wait."
"What's the matter, Meowth?" James asks.
"Looks like dey're goin' on a little trip," Meowth says.
"Then we are, too. Let's sneak on board," Jessie says.
"Gotcha," James agrees,
Then Wobbuffet appears, "Wobbuffet!" (Let's do it!)
Jessie and James both shush Wobbuffet before they sneak aboard via the cargo bay before the blimp's engines start and take off.
"Like they say, you always get exactly what you pay for. Or don't pay for," Jessie says.
It's like an oven in here. Stowaways have it pretty rough," James points out.
Then Meowth says, "Jessie! James!
Both of them look at Meowth, standing in front of a metal door.
"I tink we should see what's behind dis door. It's pretty solid. Could be someting woith swiping," Meowth says.
"Oh, alright," Jessie and James reply.
They open the door and find that they found the blimp's freezer.
"Hey," James says.
"It's certainly nice and cool," Jessie says.
Team Rocket cheers, "A shivery Shangri-La!"
"Wobbuffet." (It's chilling.) Wobbuffet says.
They soon enter before the door closes behind them, locking as well.
Meanwhile, in Pallet Town, Bulbasaur, Professor Oak and Tracey head to the area of the problem at hand. When suddenly, a Heracross comes zooming in, which makes Bulbasaur very uneasy.
"Look, here comes Mew Heracross," Professor Oak says.
Heracross tries drinking the nectar from Bulbasaur's bulb, but Bulbasaur smacks it back with Vine Whip.
Soon, they come across the three way stare down between the migrating Hoppip, Skiploom and Jumpluff, the resident grass Pokémon and the resident water Pokémon.
"Uh oh," Tracey says in concern, "Looks like all three sides are gearing up for another fight!"
"Yes," Professor Oak says.
Bulbasaur rushes down and tries to persuade for a truce.
"Oh, look. It seems Bulbasaur's already trying to persuade them to stop fighting," Professor Oak says.
Tracey then holds out his camera, "Great. Way to go."
Bulbasaur tries to talk peace between the three sides, but neither will listen to reason. Bulbasaur tries to get a Bellossom to make peace with a Jumpluff, but fails with a smack to the face. The same thing occurs after trying to get a Jumpluff and a Poliwhirl to make peace.
"A Jumpluff used Tackle!" Tracey says, shocked.
And Professor Oak says, "And Poliwhirl's using Double Slap."
Bulbasaur tries again, but gets the same result, so he lashes out at the three Pokémon that attacked him with a Vine Whip, causing all three sides to gang up on him.
"Bulbasaur!" Professor calls out.
This is bad," Tracey says, and calls out his Pokemon, "Marill, Scyther, Venonat! Break it up!"
Soon, all three come out of their Pokeballs.
Professor Oak turns to Heracross, who is with them, "They're going to need extra help, Heracross."
Heracross agrees and all four Pokémon step in, suddenly Bulbasaur fires a Solar Beam straight into the sky, bringing the squabble to a halt. Then Bulbasaur says to the Pokemon to make peace, which they decide to agree to the idea.
"Looks like Bulbasaur's Solar Beam did the trick," Tracey says.
"I'd say they finally saw the light, and for our sake, not a moment too soon," Professor Oak says.
Soon, the two Bellossom start dancing.
Tracey is the first to notice, "Professor, what kind of dance is that?"
"Let's see. It's quite different from their usual Petal Dance," Professor Oak says.
A Jumpluff enjoys the performance.
"It's really cool," Tracey says, and gets out a tripod for the camera, "I just gotta," and gets out his pad and pencil, "sketch it!"
Soon, all the grass Pokemon start dancing and both the resident grass Pokemon and the migrating Pokemon make peace.
"Looks like they made some kind of agreement," Tracey says.
Professor Oak nods his head, "Over the years, I've witnessed many different types of Pokémon war dances."
"So that would make this a, peace dance?" Tracey replies.
Professor Oak nods his head, "This is an amazing discovery!"
However, one Hoppip and Poliwhirl refuse to make peace, restarting the whole thing into a two sided turf dispute
Tracey grows concerned, "Uh oh. The water and the grass Pokemon are at it again. What're we gonna do if Bulbasaur can't keep them from fighting?"
"No matter how you look at it, there're just too many Pokémon living on this lake. Maybe building a brand new lake would settle the issue once and for all," Professor Oak says.
Bulbasaur sighs, and agrees that this is going to be one troublesome job.
Meanwhile, in the blimp flying over the Johto Region…
Mew and her friends are passing the time to reach the next destination. Turns out, there's a special Pokemon Battlefield, and Mew is willing to try.
Mew calls out, "Ivysaur, use Vine Whip!"
Ivysaur performs Vine Whip.
A male trainer calls out, "Machamp, deflect the attack.
Machamp uses its four arms to block the attack.
Then the trainer calls out, "Use Brick Break!"
Machamp then performs Brick Break and strikes at Ivysaur.
"Quick Ivysaur, use your Vine Whip to launch yourself into the air," Mew calls out.
Ivysaur then does just that and flies over Machamp.
"Alright Ivysaur, use Bullet Seed!" Mew calls out.
Ivysaur then launches the attack at Machamp with full force as she lands on the ground.
"Now, use Take Down!" Mew calls out.
And with that, Ivysaur charges and strikes at Machamp with full force. Soon, Machamp is knocked out.
"Alright Ivysaur, that was great!" Mew says.
"Ivysaur," (Thank you.) Ivysaur says.
Suddenly, Ivysaur begins to glow, catching everyone by surprise.
"Look!" Tomo says, surprised.
"Ivysaur is evolving," Misty says, surprised.
Ivysaur soon grows and changes until Ivysaur has become a Venasaur.
"Alright, Ivysaur, you evolved," Mew says.
Mew brings out her Pokedex, and Dexter says, "Venusaur, the Seed Pokemon, and the evolved form of Ivysaur. A Grass and Poison Type. There is a large flower on Venusaur's back. The flower is said to take on vivid colors if it gets plenty of nutrition and sunlight. The flower's aroma soothes the emotions of people."
Mew pets Venusaur, "You did great with your battle, and now you've evolved."
Saur," Venasaur says with a smile.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket are trapped in the freezer, shivering.
Jessie shivers, "I'm so cold I can't feel my nose."
"I'm so cold I can't feel my toes," James feels the same.
So does Meowth, "And I'm so cold I wish I wore clothes."
"Wobbu," (Me, too.) Wobbuffet feels the same.
"I've had enough," Jessie says, but notices the door is closed, "Oh no, how'd the door get closed?"
Jessie tries to open, but it won't budge, "It won't open!"
James and Meowth cry out, "Let us out! Help! Please!"
"Wobbuffet." (Pretty please.) Wobbuffet cries out.
A little later that evening, Mew and the others land near the MooMoo Farms.
Mew and her friends reply, "Thanks for the ride, Carter."
"Take care, everyone," Carter says.
"You, too," Mew says.
Then Carter drives off.
Mew and her friends soon start walking again.
Meanwhile, back in the blimp, Team Rocket finally gets out of the freezer, completely frozen solid.
Frozen, Jessie says, "Let's, make a, break for it."
Followed by James, "I'm trapped, in this, cubicle."
And then Meowth, "And I'm feeling most, 'ice-olated'."
The blimp soon takes off again, sending Team Rocket sliding out of the cargo bay and all the way to the ground below
Team Rocket cries out, "Team Rocket's on thin ice!"
"Wobbuffet." (You said it.) Wobbuffet adds.
Meanwhile, Mew and the others are getting an update from Professor Oak.
"Really? Bulbasaur needs to stay even longer? Why?" Mew asks.
"Well, peacemaking it a tough job, you know," Professor Oak says, "The good news is your Bulbasaur worked wonders with the Bellossom and the Jumpluff, along with their previous forms and Gloom's alternate form, Vileplume. The bad news is the fierce fighting between the water and grass Pokemon continues to rage on."
"Well, since they're fighting over territory, we decided to build a new lake just for grass Pokemon," Tracey says.
"But until it's built, I'm gonna need Bulbasaur on hand to help out, "Professor Oak says.
Mew smiles and says, "I understand. Bulbasaur, keep up the good work. I'm proud of you."
"Bulba!" (Thanks, Mew) Bulbasaur says.
Meanwhile, back at Professor Oak's lab, Professor Oak, Tracey and Bulbasaur are following Marill to find the perfect place to build the lake
"Okay, Marill. Let's find them some water, "TRacey says.
Soon, Marill comes to a stop.
Then Marill informs them that she found the location.
"Well, now, I think it may have found an underground spring," Professor Oak says.
Soon, bulbasaur lets out a call and all the Grass Pokemon come running. At the same time, Professor Oak and Tracey stand back and observe and film.
"This location's beautiful," Professor Oak says.
"Definitely," Tracey agrees.
Bulbasaur soon cuts the grass with Razor Leaf until the area of digging is ready. Bulbasaur then uses its Vine Whip to start digging and the grass Pokemon agree to pitch in
"Well, everything seems to be running smoothly. Least for now," Professor Oak says.
"Alright," Tracey says and gets out his pad and pencil, "Now I'm just gonna get a quick drawing of this, too."
Suddenly, Bulbasaur hits bedrock.
"That rock layer is going to be difficult to penetrate," Professor Oak says.
"I'm not sure if grass Pokemon are going to be able to dig any deeper than that," Tracey says.
Soon, Bulbasaur gets an idea and runs off.
Bulbasaur, where are you going?" Tracey asks.
Soon, Bulbasaur is asking the Poliwhirl from the lake for help, but Poliwhirl refuses to help, at first. But Bulbasaur manages to persuade it to do so. Bulbasaur then asks a Sandslash for help, which agrees.
Later, Bulbasaur is back with three Poliwhirl and three Sandslash.
"Why were Poliwhirl and Sandslash called in? They're not able to dig through solid rock, are they, Professor?" Tracey wonders.
Soon, Bulbasaur tells the three teams to be at the ready as Marill jumps into the help the Poliwhirl
"Look! Now Marill's helping out, too!" Tracey notices.
Then Professor Oak wonders, "What in the world are they doing?"
Soon, on Bulbasaur's command, the Water Pokemon start using Water Gun.
"They're using Water Gun," Tracey says, surprised.
Soon, Professor Oak understands, "Oh, I get it. Marill and Poliwhirl are using Water Gun to soften that bedrock for Sandslash, that way it'll be able to dig."
Then Bulbasaur signals the Sandslash to do their job, which they're able to dig through the dirt.
"And look! It's working out perfectly!" Tracey says, "Bulbasaur's a Pokémon genius!"
Soon, all the other grass Pokémon, including Bulbasaur, pitch in and help when Adriana, Daisy and Mimey come in
Adriana calls out, "Time for a lunch break, everyone!"
"Mr. Mime! Mime! Mime!" (Come and get it guys!) Mimey calls out.
Bulbasaur comes up to them.
"There you go, Bulbasaur. There's plenty of food for all of you so, please, dig in," Daisy says.
Mimey reveals a big load of Pokémon food and Bulbasaur invites everyone to eat. All the Pokemon agree for a lunch break.
After lunch, the Pokemon get back to work, until one of the Sandslash hits something.
"There seems to be a problem," Adriana says.
It's soon revealed that a giant rock has halted construction.
Professor Oak soon notices, "Ah. This time, they found a giant rock buried in there."
"Oh, brother, what's Bulbasaur gonna do now?" Tracey wonders.
Soon, Bulbasaur and the Sandslash try to remove the rock, with some of the grass Pokemon pitching in to help
"Shouldn't we try to help, Professor?" Tracey questions.
"No, sir. This is a problem the Pokemon must solve on their own," Professor Oak says.
"Yeah, but…" Tracey says.
But Daisy says, "He's right. All of those Pokémon who've been battling each other for days are now working together to solve a problem."
"Oh, yeah. Now I see," Tracey soon agrees.
With great effort from all the Pokémon, the rock finally budges.
It's moving!" Tracye says.
Finally, the rock is pulled out of the hole and construction on the lake continues until the Sandslash bail.
"Now that's very odd. The Sandslash are running away from something," Professor Oak soon notices.
And soon, a small puddle of water has been found.
Tracey is the first to notice, "Water."
"That's right. Sandslash do hate water, after all," Professor Oak says, quickly understanding.
Soon, the hole begins to fill up with water. Everyone celebrates, until an Oddish falls from a crumbling ledge. Bulbasaur runs in to save it, and does so, but the giant rock from earlier comes tumbling down as Bulbasaur's life flashes before its eyes.
Soon, Bulbasaur begins to remember when Bulbasaur first met Mew and her friends. And how he has started his journey with Mew, winning battles, learning new moves, and even learning Solar Beam. Along with his decision to not evolve. Bulbasaur continues to remember all the adventures he has had and everything he has learned.
Meanwhile…
Mew wakes up from her sleep and looks up in the cloud to see one in the shape of Bulbasaur.
"Bulbasaur," Mew says.
Meanwhile, the Sandslash, two of the Poliwhirl, Tracey and Professor Oak prepare to move the rock
Tracey and Professor Oak shout, "One! Two! Three! Push!"
Soon, they manage to push the rock away but can't find Bulbasaur.
"Where's Bulbasaur?" Professor Oak asks, worried.
Tracey calls out, "Hey, Bulbasaur!
Soon enough, the dirt begins to move, and out of the dirt is Bulbasaur.
Tracey calls out, "How are you, Bulbasaur? Are you feeling okay?"
"Did you injure anything?" Professor Oak asks, worried.
Bulbasaur climbs up and answers, "Saur!" (Nope!)
Adriana collapses in relief, "I was so worried."
"It must've avoided the rock by burrowing underground," Professor Oak says.
"Bulba! Bulbasaur!" (That's right! And real quick!) Bulbasaur says.
He then shakes off the dirt as the other Pokemon gather around and celebrate.
"You know, Professor, I didn't think Bulbasaur were capable of learning Dig," Tracey says.
"Yes, it's interesting. Remember this, there are times in a crisis where we are able to call upon skills we never even knew we possessed," Professor Oak says.
The shot then transitions to our watching the whole celebration on a video phone via the recording Tracey made.
"It's amazing," Misty says.
"Good job, Bulbasaur," Brock says.
"Alright Bulbasaur!" Tracey says.
"Go Bulbasaur!" Jen cheers.
"Anyway, we finished the lake, the Pokémon were pleased with the results, and the battles over land finally came to an end. But, then they started again," Professor Oak says.
"Really?" Molly asks.
"How did that happen?" Jen asks.
Then the video is played.
Tracey explains, "As soon as Bulbasaur left, they went right back to arguing again."
Then Professor Oak says, "So Bulbasaur had to step in once more, and only then did the Pokemon stop fighting. You can see how much respect the other Pokemon have for have for it."
"Wow. That's fantastic, Bulbasaur," Mew says.
"Bulba," (I know.) Bulbasaur says.
Then Professor Oak asks, "So, Mew. I have a small favor to ask. Would it be possible to keep Bulbasaur here just a little longer?"
"Oh," Mew says, disappointed.
"Oh, Mew," Misty says, a little worried.
"That's a tough one," Brock says.
"I know," Mew says.
"I know you're gonna miss it, Mew, but we could never get the Pokémon here to get along without Bulbasaur," Tracey says.
"Yeah, you're right," Mew says. Then asks, "What do you think, Bulbasaur?"
Soon, Bulbasaur answers, "Bulba... Bulbasaur," (I think... I should stay.)
"I understand, Bulbasaur," Mew says, "I'm gonna miss you, but this is much more important. Professor, take good care of it."
"We certainly will," Professor Oak says.
"Thanks for helping us out, Mew," Tracey says.
Mew then says, "Bulbasaur, good luck, pal."
"Pika," (See ya.) Pikachu says.
"Eevee," (Bye Bulbasauer.) Eevee says.
Bulbasaur then says, "Bulba." (Later.)
Sometime later, Mew and her friends leave the Pokemon Center. By loaning Bulbasaur to Professor Oak, Mew made a sacrifice for the good of Pokémon everywhere. But knows that Bulbasaur is doing his hardest as the Pokemon peacekeeper.
Back at the lab, Bulbasaur walking around as Professor Oak and Tracey watch from nearby
"Well, there goes Bulbasaur," Professor Oak says.
Off to make its morning rounds," Tracey says.
We soon see a Skiploom and a Gloom arguing over an apple before Bulbasaur happily steps in and splits the apple between them. The two happily eat before Bulbasaur looks up and sees the clouds go by, thinking about Mew and reassuring himself that it'll be fine.
