The Advocate Network:
The Advocate is a clandestine group in the Titanfall universe, primarily known for operating the Advocate Network with heavy ties to the Black Market, it is a mercenary service that provides pilots for hire. The organization appears to be led by an individual or group known as "The Advocate," and its members are referred to as Advocates. The primary focus of the Advocate Network is to recruit freelance pilots, offering them incentives such as free titans and credits. These pilots, once enlisted, become part of the network and are available for hire by various factions in the ongoing conflict between the Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation (IMC) and the Frontier Militia.
The darker side of the Advocate becomes apparent when considering their role in perpetuating the Frontier War for their own gain. The Advocate Network accepted contracts from both the IMC and the Militia, effectively profiting from the ongoing conflict. The organization knowingly supplies pilots with technology, weapons, titans, and other resources to use, therefore creating a cycle of violence and ensuring a continuous demand for their services. The Advocate's motives appear purely profit-driven, with little concern for the ethical implications or the toll on human life.
One of the key aspects of the Advocate's operations is the Regeneration process, a form of advanced technology that involves backing up a pilot's mind, memories, and skills. This process allows the Advocate to create Simulacra, robotic versions of pilots that can be deployed in battle. Simulacra serves as the perfect, endlessly replaceable warriors, and the Advocate uses them to further its agenda in the ongoing conflict. The organization's involvement in regeneration and the creation of Simulacra adds a layer of complexity to its role in the Titanfall universe.
The Advocate's actions contribute to a sense of moral ambiguity in the Titanfall narrative, as they manipulate the war for their own gain, indifferent to the consequences and suffering it inflicts on the people of the Frontier. The organization's influence extends beyond the battlefield, impacting the very fabric of the conflict and raising questions about the true motives behind the ongoing war.
The Advocate's, only goal in Titanfall seems to be increasing their wealth by becoming rich off of the conflict and piggybacking off the Black Market. Both the IMC and Militia probably had a suspicion that the Advocate provided to both sides during the war, but without a massive investigation into the Advocate due to the war's escalation, only rumor and hearsay exist which the Advocate uses to hide it's goals and identity and expand it's influence therefore rivaling or succeeding the power of the Shadow Broker. However, if anyone or anything starts to uncover the truth, then the Advocate would send one of their operatives to assassinate them, and that side loses their supply of pilots. It's far easier to ignore the potential evil and avoid losing the advantage. If there are any peacemakers, then they would also send their operatives after them and ensure that this war continues.
The most major evidence for this comes from the same message from the Advocate network, which states that they "can find work for pilots". Freelance pilots such as the ones we play as in Tf2 will join up to their network for the free titans and credits as an incentive, and then use the services of the Advocate as they've already joined.
The Advocate keeps track of the pilots that have joined, which is why in-game stats such as pilots' kills, how much money they've earned, etc. are recorded. To encourage their pilots' best performance and stay within the Advocate, they provide Advocate Gifts, which reward good performance, and this further supports this evidence. The Rank Chip had a similar purpose, but it only measured direct performance and not the other stats the network records. The rank chip's performance recording also supports the idea of a pilot hiring service, recording a pilot's skill for easy comparison by hirers.
The Advocate is more prominent in Tf2 than Tf1, with only a whisper of mention in the first game in the Rank Chip and some Burn Cards. But in the second it is a major part of the multiplayer, and hence the Frontier War. This is most likely due to the state of the war after the events of Tf1 Both the IMC and Militia would be in desperate need of pilots after Demeter and the further loss of resources, industry, and manpower from the Core Systems, resulted in the Militia and IMC hiring soldiers and pilots to use for their dirty work, not wanting to risk their own, loyal troops. Plus, as most pilots are mercenaries or trained by mercenaries, the Advocate was able to rise to prominence within the Frontier as a mercenary service. By Tf2 they have grown so much from doing this, that it is the standard for new, freelance pilots to join them for work.
