Militia Military Structure - Fan-Made Concept

The Frontier Militia was, in its infancy, primarily comprised of independent fighting brigades assigned to fight in individual sectors or systems in space, and it was not uncommon for brigades to have little to no contact with one another except for joint-missions. Even the Militia's fleets, under the control of the newly organised Militia High Command Post-Demeter, were often simply brigades or fleets cobbled together into a single, large force; several fleets even operated independently, with or without permission.

The modern Militia military is an organized fighting force that still maintains a level of decentralization and self-sufficiency seen in none of its counterparts, a product of its origins in the Militia system. Militia forces are allowed a great deal of leeway in regard to how individual branches of the armed forces to complete any missions as they see fit. The upper echelon of command expects that those branches- and its soldiers- will coordinate when necessary and adapt orders to any given situation to achieve the best possible outcome. This spirit of cooperation appears to have cut down on (though certainly not eliminated) much of the inter-service rivalries that have and continue to plague armies galaxy-wide, and despite initial worries during the transition from Militia to Armed Forces that keeping the decentralized nature of the Militia would cause issues with cohesion issues from unit to command, such fears would appear to have been unfounded. The Frontier Militia Armed Forces (FMAF) often resembles an unruly, disorganized mob that somehow manages to work in spite of its organization during peacetime; during wartime however, it becomes a functional fighting force that is flexible and resilient, able to continue fighting long after any other organized force would have crumbled due to logistical constraints or a loss of leadership.

The FMAF is divided into several numerous branches with different levels of operational freedom, but its most important groups are as follows:

Ground Warfare Command:

They are ranked as 3rd in terms of operational freedom to do ai it pleases as it oversees all land-based combat, mainly covering infantry (both regular and specialized), mechanized units, armored warfare, as well as on-the-ground logistics.

Fleet Expeditionary Operations:

FEO oversees fleet operations and fleet logistics and is the most heavily restricted in terms of operational freedom; they also maintain patrols throughout Militia territory by maintaining a constant state of readiness by devising strategies for interplanetary (and by extension, intersystem) ship warfare. FEO's mandate is also to explore new and uncharted territory beyond the Militia's control, monitor and protect viable colonization sites, and to prepare possible colonies for settlement. The FEO, due to its mandate, finds itself most likely to deal with First Contact scenarios and bears a great deal of responsibility in carrying out diplomacy with alien life by representing the Human race.

Orbital Logistics and Support:

OLS provides a go-between for GWC and FEO; during planetary operations, it provides logistical services as well as operational support to including but not limited to orbital strikes, reconnaissance data, material delivery, titan manufacturing and delivery systems, and drop pods for regular infantry such as the Grunts.

There are also several smaller and important arms of the military that are either not under the command of these main three groups above or are not actually under any form of central military command. These include but are not limited to the following.

Special Recon Squadron (SRS)

The Frontier Militia's special forces branch which handles covert and other high-risk missions across the Frontier and galaxy. They're tasked to handle missions of considerable variety and importance, which include covert infiltrations, sabotage, data retrieval, and force eliminations of key IMC operations. The SRS was born out of the varied espionage groups of the Militia, the SRS provides a great deal of intelligence to the FMAF but does not technically fall under the full purview of FMAF's High Command as they allowed a great deal of freedom.

Titan Pilots:

The legendary Pilots of the Militia find themselves in an odd place due to their origins as both regular soldiers, irregular forces, and mercenaries alike; Pilots are given the most operational freedom as they are trained to be irregular in combat tactics and sough chaos among enemy lines. They are often recruited by veteran pilots who believe their chosen candidates possess a high amount of skill and these candidates can be chosen from any branch of the military who are put through major training regimens in simulated combat (and, in rare cases, from civilians who have developed high skills in marksmanship or parkour.), Pilots can also be recruited as hired mercenaries who are able to follow Militia regulations without complaint or disregard. Pilots often form small factions or Merc bands that are free to do as they please while placed in reserve until an active state of war is declared, in which case they do fall under the purview of the FMAF High Command structure; Pilots can also often attach themselves to one of the main branches of the military, and in some cases, must apply to do so if attempting to join the intelligence services such as the SRS.

Pilots do not require augmentation as part of their job, with the majority simply being the most skilled and disciplined soldiers the factions of the Frontier have to offer - in other words, Pilots are not super soldiers, merely highly-trained and refined personnel with access to the best equipment their respective armies have to offer. However, many Pilots will opt for artificial enhancements to improve their skillset. These can range from minute enhancements such as the "hearing aid" Aural Implant to the transhumanist Simulacrum and Spectre Camo, both of which completely replace the Pilot's organic body with a robotic one.
