Back to Action
Chapter 2
4 months later.
Tommy sighed as he looked at the stack of marking in front of him, thankful for a reason to stay at work a bit longer. Ever since Kira had left, he had been spending as much time out of the house as possible, hating the reminders of her that were there. He had not opened the door to the studio since he listened to that voicemail, and had barely even been down to the lab in that time. He had taken the clothes she had left and the pictures of her and locked them in the spare room, the one she had stayed in when they were still hiding their relationship.
"Hey, I thought you'd be here." He looked up and saw Ethan stood in the doorway with a smile.
"What are you doing here, Ethan? Don't you have work from college?" He asked in a bored voice, the former Blue Ranger having spoken to him enough times to not take it personally.
"Taking you out." He replied, making Tommy frown. "You've been down since she left. And Hayley has been asking about you. So we are going to go and spend some time at the café with Conner and Trent and you are going to have fun."
"Not tonight, Ethan." He mumbled as he went back to his marking, only to have the pen snatched out of his hand.
"Hey, I'm not going back to Hayley without you. She still scares me." He said, making Tommy smile slightly. "Now come on." They started walking towards the car park when Tommy spoke up.
"Have you spoken to her?" He asked, making Ethan frown.
"No. Conner tried to speak to her at a gig a few weeks ago, but he never actually saw her." He replied. "Tanya's been keeping me updated though. Apparently she has a few gigs lined up around California for the next two weeks."
"Anything in Reefside?" Tommy asked, making Ethan smile slightly.
"Sorry. They all seem to be close to here, but she isn't actually doing one in Reefside." He said. "Tommy, is there a reason she's avoiding all of us?"
"To be honest Ethan, I don't even know why she left." He replied with a frown as they reached his Jeep and he lent against the door. "I thought we were happy. She didn't give me any indication that she wasn't happy with me."
"You don't think it had something to do with her dad, do you?" Ethan asked, making Tommy look up in shock. "You know, he was someone she was supposed to trust, someone that was supposed to keep her safe, not hurt her. Maybe some paranoia made her think that you could hurt her too, unconsciously." Tommy was about to reply when they both froze, looking down at their wrists with frowns. "Are they glowing?" The two Dino Gems glowed from their positions in the silver bracelets both men wore. "But I thought they were fried?"
"So did I." Tommy muttered. "Call Conner and Trent. Tell them to meet us at the lab."
"And Kira?" Ethan asked, making Tommy freeze slightly. As angry and hurt as he was, he knew that she was still a part of the team and had a right to know what was going on, if he managed to figure it out.
"If you get through to her, then tell her to meet us too." He said. They got into his jeep and drove to the house, Tommy frowning the whole way.

"Right, you're done." Kira looked up from her notebook with a smile as a nurse disconnected the drip from the PICC line in her arm.
"Thanks Sarah." She said with a smile.
"You only have one cycle left, right?" Sarah asked as she tidied all of the equipment in the room up.
"Hopefully." Kira replied, putting her notebook away. "And then you'll finally be able to get rid of me."
"I'm actually going to be a little sad to see you go." She said with a smile. "I don't know what we're going to do without hearing your music every few weeks."
"I'll make sure to send you my next CD." She replied with a laugh, only to freeze when she noticed the yellow gem on her wrist glowing.
"Kira? Is everything alright?" Sarah asked, making her jump.
"Yeah, fine." She replied, turning around and picking up her bag. "I guess I'll see you later." She walked out of the hospital and down to the car park, where she could see a yellow Porsche waiting for her. She climbed in and sighed, looking down at her wrist again.
"Well hello to you too." She looked up at the driver and saw them smirking.
"Sorry Tanya, I was just distracted." Kira said, making Tanya frown slightly.
"Did something go wrong with the chemo?" She asked as she started driving.
"No, that went fine." Kira replied, looking back at her gem. "My gem glowed."
"Glowed?" Tanya asked with a frown, looking down at her wrist.
"It was almost like it was charging up." She replied with a frown.
"What does that mean?" She asked, focusing on the road.
"I don't know." She muttered, leaning her head back. Tanya looked at the younger girl for a moment before looking back at the road.
"Maybe you should call them." Tanya suggested. Kira was silent for a moment and Tanya knew she didn't need to elaborate on who 'they' were.
"I can't. Not after what I did." She sighed, closing her eyes.
"What do you mean?" Tanya asked with a slight frown, making Kira flinch. After she had left Tommy, she had brought a flat in Reefside and travelled into the studio most days. Tanya had found out about the cancer pretty quickly, when she had spotted Kira's hair coming out after the first cycle. Since then, the former Yellow Ranger had stayed true to her promise of not telling any of Kira's former teammates what was going on, but she had never been told what had happened to make Kira hide something like this from them.
"I was stupid. I hurt Tommy, and I know none of them will ever forgive me for that." Kira said vaguely. Tanya looked at her for a moment before sighing.
"They call me, you know." She said, making Kira look at her in shock. "All four of them. Including Tommy."
"You haven't told them, have you?" She asked, making Tanya shake her head.
"No. But I still think you should tell them." She heard Kira's sigh and decided to keep talking. "They ask me how you are, how your career's going and when your gigs are. They care about you Kira." Kira was about to reply, when her bracelet beeped, making her look at it in shock.
"Hello?" She answered after a moment, raising her wrist towards her mouth.
"I didn't think you'd answer." Conner's voice replied, making her swallow the lump that formed in her throat.
"I almost didn't." She admitted. "I'm guessing this is about the gems glowing?"
"Yeah. Do you think you could come to the lab?" She was silent for a moment before Conner replied in what she dubbed his 'leader voice'. "Look, whatever happened between you and Tommy, happened. But we are still a team, and we still all care about you. Please come to the lab so we can figure out what is going on. As a team." Kira sighed and looked at Tanya, who was nodding furiously at her.
"Alright. I'll be there in around an hour." She said before cutting the connection and lowering her wrist.
"Do you want me to drop you off at Tommy's?" Tanya asked, making Kira shake her head.
"Can you drop me at the edge of the woods? I'll use the tunnel entrance." She said with a sigh as she pulled on her yellow hoodie. The one place she had avoided for so long, and now she was returning.
Not too far away from Reefside, on a small Island, a figure stumbled towards the ruins of the fortress that resided there. They stumbled over the wreckage and into the main control room, laughing as they looked around.
"I will get my revenge, Tommy Oliver! I will end you, and your Rangers!" The figure snarled.

"Any idea what's going on?" Trent asked as he walked down the stairs and into the lab, looking around to see Tommy, Ethan and Conner around the computer.
"I can't analyse the Gems until I have all of them here." Tommy said with a frown, making Trent share looks with Conner and Ethan.
"I called her. She's on her way." Conner said, giving Tommy a worried glance. None of them knew what happened between Tommy and Kira, and none of them could figure out how they could break up. The last time they had seen the couple, they had looked as loved up as ever. All Tommy had ever told them was that Kira had left him, which Conner couldn't understand. He loved Kira like a sister, and he felt like he was close to the Yellow Ranger, but she had never even hinted that she was unhappy.
"Are you going to be alright?" Ethan asked Tommy, the older man shrugging his shoulders.
"Does it matter? We're a team and that comes before anything else." He said, looking at the computer.
"Tommy…" Conner started, making Tommy shake his head.
"I'm going to be civil. We always said that no matter what happened with us, it wouldn't affect the team and I'm going to stay true to that." He said, frowning at the screen in front of him.
"Then I guess I will too." They all spun around and saw the door to the tunnels open, Kira stood in the entrance way with a nervous smile on her face. "Hi."
"Kira." Tommy breathed, taking a moment to look at her. What he found made him frown. She was pale and seemed to have lost some weight. Her hair seemed lighter than the last time he saw her, and he noticed that she seemed to have dark circles under her eyes.
"I can leave. I wouldn't blame you if you never wanted to see me again." She said, looking down slightly. Conner looked back and forth between them for a moment before smiling.
"Kira, you're a part of this team. So you're staying." He said, walking over to her and hugging her. She froze for a moment before returning the hug, Ethan and Trent giving her the same greeting. She looked at Tommy, and had to look away at the hurt she saw in his face.
"Kira, I need your gem." Ethan said, making Kira take the gem out of her bracelet and hand it to him.
"Are you alright Kira?" Conner asked, making her frown. "You look like you haven't slept in a while."
"I'm fine. Just been working late." She said, wrapping her arms around her torso. Conner shared a worried look with Ethan and Trent. Tommy wasn't the only one that noticed the differences in Kira, and they were all worried about her.
"I thought you finished your album months ago." Tommy said without looking away from the computer, making Kira frown.
"I did. But I've been trying to get a head start on the next one." She replied, looking down that the floor.
"So, your gem glowed as well?" Trent asked, trying to keep the conversation going and disperse the awkward tension in the room.
"Yeah. It was really weird." She replied, looking back down at her empty bracelet.
"What do you mean?" Tommy asked.
"It felt like it was radiating energy." She replied, trying not to look at him. "It was almost like when we came back from the past and it unlocked your memories. Like it was charging up for something."
"You guys aren't going to believe this." Ethan said with a smile.
"What is it Ethan?" Conner asked as he handed the gems back to their owners.
"The gems are reenergised." He said with a smile.
"Reenergised? Does that mean…." Trent started, trailing off as he shared a look with the rest of the group.
"Oh yes." Ethan replied with a smile. "We have our powers back."
