"Love is free. But all magic comes with a price!" – Rumpelstiltskin/ Mr. Gold from Once Upon a Time

Ch. 10: A New Love and an Old Return

"This file is useless. It doesn't give any location of the journal."

"Boss, you said to grab whatever was on the list."

"I know what I told you! Damn it!" A slam of the fist on a desk prompted many to jump then a finger pointed out and gestured to the group, "We must find this journal or, it's all our heads."

"You should be fine, Regina," Maura assured the young apprentice.

Regina nodded, glancing over at Jane and Dani who were talking in the corner privately. "They were talking in riddles," Jane stated, trying to comprehend everything that happened with the Twisted Ones.

"Riddles are their specialties," Dani retorted. "That's why they're dangerous. The fact that they mentioned that the medallions are tainted to control the soul is not good."

"They're free as well."

"That's even worse especially with the supposed seller wishes hell on people. Owen was unfortunately killed for that."

Jane nodded then glanced from the seal recognizing a ruin that looked like the scar on Dani's back. "So you made a deal with them," Jane inquired, testing the waters. The reaction Dani gave was quiet and yet, her facial expression expressed several emotions. Jane watched as the brow went up, sizing Jane and in her eyes, she noticed that there was a bit uncertain, the next was a twitch of her mouth. It seemed that Dani wasn't sure if she would answer until there was a release of breath.

Dani leaned back, keeping her eyes toward the others. "I had no choice in my deal," she confessed.

"How is that possible," Jane questioned, leaning back against the bookcase.

"Complicated and lack of free will."

"They forced you?"

"More like my hand was forced," Dani retorted simply. She then turned around to make sure that her face was toward the bookcase as she continued, "But, it seems you have business with Maura."

Jane's eyes darted toward Maura who was checking on Mama Lorna. The detective then looked back at Dani whose eyes continued to look at the books. "Have you ever been in love," Jane inquired quietly. Dani's head snapped at the question and gave Jane a bewildered expression before she looked way, not bothering to answer. Jane didn't need to use her skills as a detective to comprehend Dani's expressions and closed off demeanor for it gave the answer.

There was a love.

"The ring you gave up," Jane commented.

"For some…love is meant for them. For others, it's not and for me, love is nothing but pain and lies."

"You don't really believe that, right?"

Dani did not answer but looked at Maura. "How are they," she asked Maura, concluding their conversation abruptly.

"They are doing perfectly fine. No physical injuries but I'm not sure about magical residue," Maura answered, placing her stethoscope back into medical bag.

"Mama and I would notice if anything pops up," Regina reassured as she walked toward the detectives. Her eyes were darting from Dani to Jane then back to the latter, making Jane ponder if the apprentice overheard what Dani said. Her eyes finally looked away with a hint of hurt. "Will you three be okay," she asked.

"I feel okay," Jane assured. "I think Maura would notice if something is up."

Maura nodded in agreement.

"I should be fine," Dani assured, keeping her eyes away from Regina.

"Dani," Regina moved closer. Jane and Maura watched as Dani continued to look away, trying not to give eye contact. The witch touched Dani's cheek, making the detective look directly into her eyes.

It was an intimate touch and for a brief second, Dani gave into the touch, closing her eyes and taking in the gentle touch, the smoothness of the skin, and the comfort that came with until she pulled away.

It was as if she was burned by fire, the scalding burn that was not even visible. But Danielle wasn't the only one because Regina felt the same feeling when Dani stepped back. "We should get going and relay the information to the team," Dani said quietly.

Regina nodded in agreement and, with Jane and Maura, Dani walked out of the shop without an exchange of goodbye. Despite, the lack of exchange though, she walked up to the front door and locked the door to see the three entering the car. Dani was the last one to enter but feeling the gaze, looked up to see Regina.

Regina looked away and Dani stepped into her car. The witch sighed, hugging herself before she heard Mama Lorna state with a whistle, "Girl, you got it bad."

After returning back to the warehouse, Jane and Maura left and entered the cruiser with a heavy silence over the two. Both were still in semi shock to heard about their feelings being reciprocated, that the love they both had for each other went beyond the bounds of friendship.

It was scary but, at the same time, exciting.

The silence of deafening and yet, something prompted Jane to look over at Maura to see the doctor staring out the window. At the stop light, Jane reached out her hand to take Maura's hand into hers. Maura snapped her head toward Jane, and she can see Jane's dark brown eyes, expressing so many feelings. There was love and shyness, a sight that Maura had seen before so many times and now she understood what the look meant.

Maura gave a small smile, squeezing Jane's hand back.

For the rest of the drive, they held hands until they reached Maura's residence. Jane released Maura's hand and turned the engine off then stepped out of the car and walked to the other side to open Maura's door. The doctor stepped out of the car and now, they stood in each other's space. Jane closed the door behind Maura, making the doctor press her back against the car while Jane leaned in.

Their foreheads touched as if they were trying to find the connection once more. The night air is thick and cold, but Jane and Maura ignored it due to the warmth between them. Both were scared to speak, unsure how to approach the subject until finally, Jane inquired, "Should we talk about this inside?"

"It would be best but, you're staying tonight, correct," Maura pondered, worry laced in her voice.

"If you want me to?"

"I do."

Jane pulled back a bit and, with her hand in Maura's, guided the doctor to her house. They unlocked the door together and walked inside the house with Jane, closing the door behind her. As the door closed, Maura felt her heart pounding in her chest and her hands were feeling clammy.

In the darkness of the house, Jane released a shaky breath, feeling the nervousness going through her body. It almost felt like she was getting her badge again and it was a feeling of butterflies mixed with wanting to jump around in excitement. She felt like a lovesick teenager and yet, she was lovesick.

She was lovesick for Maura.

"I'm scared," Jane heard Maura confess.

"Scared of what?"

"That this could change everything."

"So am I but I know one thing that trumps that fear." Jane removed her hand from Maura's and raised it, running it against Maura's cheek as if she would disappear in that minute. She then moved a step forward, closing the small space that between them.

Their breaths mingled and noses touched as Maura breathed, "What?"

"How much I love you."

Their lips then touched with Maura's arms wrapping around Jane's neck and Jane's long arms wrapping around Maura's waist. How is it possible to feel this complete, Maura thought happily in her head.

Jane could feel Maura's smile against her lips. Maura pulled back, feeling a blush running up her cheeks with Jane holding her close as the ME leaned up once more. Their lips connected once more however it was more passionate and deeper until Jane pulled back, whispering against Maura's lips, "I'm scared as much as you are. But I love you and if you love me-"

"I do love you," Maura cut off.

Jane smiled, "Then I think we can do this together."

Maura returned the smile once more, kissing Jane once more and again, deepening it with Maura saying against Jane's lips, "Stay."

Their lips separated briefly again. "I want to do this right. I want to take you out on a date," Jane confessed. "I don't want to mess anything between us especially if you know…"

The doctor could hear the slight shyness in Jane's voice. It was this moment that made Maura kiss Jane's chin lightly and moved her hands from Jane's neck to her strong shoulders. "We don't have to rush things," Maura assured. "I just want you close. We can just go to bed and sleep. Nothing more, nothing less."

"You're sure?"

"I'm sure."

Jane gave a wide grin, kissing Maura's forehead and hugged her tightly.

This feels right.

Upon returning, Adam grabbed his work backpack and watched as Danielle sat at her desk with a distant expression. Though she was there physically, Adam could sense that his partner was not there mentally. Her dark eyes kept focus on the small list of the missing files and the creature pondered if his friend was focusing on one in particular.

"Are you sure that you're okay," Adam asked, breaking the silence.

Dani didn't bother to look up and answered softly, "I'm fine. Just…tired."

"That's been your answer for a lot of things, Dani. I've seen you run on exhaustion, but I feel that there's something-"

"More," eyes shifted quickly. There was a deep sigh and Adam watched as his partner stood up, grabbing her own bag. "Adam, you've known me for many years as my partner and my best friend. You know my habits and whether I'm okay or not. I'm assuring you that I am."

Well, I see your lying has improved, the voice spoke.

Dani took a deep breath prompting Adam to point. "That," he waved his hand, "that deep breath in. You've done it so much, as much, as rubbing your neck and drinking that accursed blue vial. That's how I know something's wrong."

"Nothing's wrong. Now go home and I'll see you in the morning."

With that dismissal, Danielle walked pass her partner and exited the warehouse to her own car. Most days, the two would just use the cruiser with Adam dropping Dani off but, with everything, the detective thought it was best to go in her own vehicle.

As the years went by, Dani eventually couldn't walk around to all the places that she needed to go. In London, she rode in carriages and even drove one but, as time went by and she made permanent residency in the United States.

For a couple years, she walked until on a random day, she spotted a junkyard and a motorcycle buried underneath; turned out to be a 1953 Triumph motorcycle and with lots of spare time, it became her mode of transportation. However, it became rarer to see her riding the bike since she was always in the cruiser with Adam.

But, this round, she needed to ride her bike and be alone with her own thoughts. Upon arriving her apartment complex, she retrieved her mail and noticed that one of her envelope were definitely not like the others.

The red seal was noticeable with its symbol being an elegant 'D.' Oh, how exciting, the voice rang in her ears. "Dracula," Dani mumbled, shaking her head, and walking up the stairs to her apartment.

You insulted the man, almost beat him up which I found very impressive, and you are still invited. Most likely, your ex-lover soothed the monster.

"I don't need you to remind me of my mistakes."

Mistakes? Didn't you give in to the seduction? You wanted a warm body after all those years of loneliness, the heartbreak, and the rejection.

Dani stepped into apartment and dropped her bag onto the ground. She walked over to her kitchen, popping a bottle of wine and poured a glass then she snapped the seal opened and read aloud, "You are cordially invited to Lord of Darkness's annual charity ball. The theme is masquerade and formal attire is expected of the circa of the Lord."

Dramatic much but oh, how I wish that you rub it in that you slept with his wife. But, of course, you won't. The headache was starting to form but Dani shook it off, taking a seat on her sofa. She took a large sip of wine. You deny that you wanted to feel something and yet, you just gave the last piece of what you wanted from Li-

"It never mattered."

Liar!

"You do not control my mind," Dani shouted.

You can't control me anymore. You're breaking apart.

"I will not- "

Suddenly, Dani's hand clenched on her wine glass, crushing it. Blood ran through her fingers as the glass dropped into pieces. Her body then dropped to her knees and it ached horribly. She tried to crawl to her bag, reaching out toward the main pocket, but her arm couldn't reach it. Her body then collapsed, making Dani lay on the ground with the heat travel up her body, and the laughter began to erupt until it turned to groan of pain until finally, darkness came over.

Eyes snapped open and there was a gasp of air.

A place recognizable, yet, foreign. For a while, it's been seen through another set of eyes

Alive, the tingle in the fingers, the taste of water on the lips. Standing up and its wobbly but it was the start. To walk, to jump; should it feel weird to have movement once more, but it isn't. Instead, they looked at the attire and changed it from this ugly button shirt look.

They walked to the closet and push through the clothing to pull out a black duster, a hooded jacket, a long sleeve V-neck with some slacks. They then pushed the clothes apart to see a long suitcase and pulling it out. They opened and there was a beautiful cane with the silver knob.

"Hello my old friend."

It's liberation for however long or short time they have but they'll take it.

Should they experiment with a vehicle or go on foot? Do they want to show off the beautiful cane that's been hidden away?

Fresh air, obnoxious sounds of the night, and so many people still out. Are they not afraid of the night?

This century is so freeing.

They then noticed the bar and read it with a smirk. The hood was raised, they entered the bar and, many glanced over before looking away. This hooded jacket is hiding their face enough as they approached the bar top, taking a seat next to a face they've seen before.

Don't you…Hush, hush. I'm in control.

"What you want," Erik asked.

"Bourbon on the rocks and make it a double." Eyes darted over and a smirk came over, "You look like you need some company."

"No thank you," Regina retorted with a roll of the eyes.

"Come on, Regina. I can show you so much."

"How do you know my name?"

"My secret."

Regina's eyes drifted to see the dark red eyes and charming smile but couldn't place the feeling of familiarity. "I don't know how you know me, but I'm not interested."

The figure took a large sip then placed a couple bills to pay off their drink. They stood up and spoke coolly, "You know your detective has a lot of secrets."

They then stepped out, knowing they left some wheels spinning.

Upon entering the warehouse, the lights were off in the squad room. However, that didn't stop the person who switched the light on and approached one of the detective's desk. A couple drawers were open, files were open and read everything and the feet were placed on the desk.

Reading files, understanding this new world that involves death.

"Why hello…" The left hand flourished with the finger running along the words: Jekyll-Hyde.

Jane blinked her eyes open to the sight of Maura still fast asleep. Once they had established that they weren't going to have sex yet, they headed to Maura's bedroom to get ready to sleep. It felt like their same old friendship but there was something new with it as well. They washed up and Maura took out Jane's classic BPD t-shirt and some shorts while she picked out a silk pajama set. They changed in separate areas then eventually met up back in the bed.

Waking up to see Maura, Jane enjoyed the new feeling and quietly, she slipped out of the bed. The detective walked down the staircase and stepped into the kitchen, letting Jo Friday outside to her business. She glanced down to see Bass moving around slowly, prompting Jane to open the fridge with a smirk and put a strawberry on the ground.

"Here ya go, Sir Bass," Jane bowed. "I definitely need to be in your good graces since I'm dating your mama." She then sat up and looked over back at the fridge, grabbing some items and turned back to the stove.

As Jane was cracking some eggs, she looked at the time to see that it was already eight in the morning. She chuckled at the sight because the detective could never picture herself waking up so early in the morning for herself, let alone someone else. However, that someone else wasn't an ordinary person.

"It's Maura."

"Janie!" Jane's shoulders went up to her ears and her face twitched to a flinch while Jo Friday reentered with Angela and trotted to Bass.

Jane turned on her heel and greeted with an awkward wave, "Morning Ma."

"What are ya doing up so early?"

Jane placed a finger on her lips. Angela raised her hands in defense but still walked over toward the counter and took a seat. "Ma, you need to lower your voice! Maura's still sleeping," Jane whispered as she turned her back to the stove.

"You're avoiding my question."

"I haven't answered it yet because you cut me off."

Jane continued to cook, and Angela huffed in frustration with her chin resting on her knuckles. There was another huff and Jane could hear the chair moving with Angela next to her. Jane smirked but didn't bother to look at her mother, knowing it would annoy her. The woman tapped her foot until she groaned, "Janie, stop making me wait."

"Patience is not your virtue, Ma."

"Nor yours. You're doing this to annoy me."

Jane chuckled but turned the stove off. "I'm up cause I'm cooking breakfast for Maura."

Angela eyed her. "You've never done that before."

"Well this morning is different," Jane retorted.

"Different how?"

Jane shrugged but gave a gleeful smile; one that surprised and confused Angela even further. Suddenly, they heard footsteps entering the room, making them both turn to see Maura. "Good morning Jane, Angela," Maura greeted softly.

Her eyes darted to Jane, thinking about the moment of waking up to see the bed empty. At first, the doctor thought Jane had left because she was scared. But she took a couple minutes to collect herself before she decided to head downstairs to see if Jane was still there.

She wouldn't leave me like that, Maura thought. We're in this together. Jane even said that.

When she reached the staircase, she was greeted by the sight of Jane but also Angela was in the room. But she noticed that Jane was smiling despite Angela being in the room. She cleared her throat, and her footsteps indicated her arrival.

When she saw Jane, the detective gave a wide smile and Maura's fear disappeared.

Scientifically, it's a mix of her body and mind; the dopamine and norepinephrine has increased since their proclamation of love to each other and physically, her stomach is doing somersaults in a figurative sense. She knows that these are all physiological and psychological responses to Jane's presence, but the science was not even coming out of the notorious Googlemouth.

Instead, it was a simple thought as Maura took in a deep breath and released it, mumbling, "Butterflies in my stomach."

"Hello Maura," Angela greeted, trying to keep her eyes on Jane but out of sheer politeness, she brought her attention toward Maura.

"Morning Maur," Jane smiled gently. The detective then gestured toward the oven behind her, "I made breakfast."

"I can see, and you used healthy ingredients," Maura smirked.

"Well…yeah."

"And you fed Bass."

"Got to be in his good graces," Jane flirted bluntly.

"You need to be in good graces with Bass," Angela questioned, breaking the bubble between the two. Maura blushed while Jane turned back to the stove to place Maura's food on a plate. She passed Angela as Maura took a seat at the counter with Jane placing the plate down.

"It looks great."

"I hope it's delicious too," Jane added.

Angela walked slowly toward the coffeemaker, trying to figure out what was happening between the two. "So…did you girls have a late night," Angela probed.

"Yeah Ma. We're waiting for some phone calls about some leads then most likely I'll be going in," Jane informed her mother.

"So will I," Maura added. "I've been asked to help with some research and profiling."

Angela pressed lips together and took a small sip of her coffee. Her eyes going back and forth from Jane to Maura. I'm going to find out, Angela thought, still eyeing them which Jane noticed immediately. She smirked and asked, "It's really killing you to find out what's going on?"

Angela's eyes widened, knowing she was caught. "What? No…I don't know what you're talking about."

"Uh huh."

Jane glanced back at Maura who noticed the mischief in the detective's eyes. Maura rolled eyes and scolded playfully, "Quit teasing your mother."

Suddenly, Maura was surprised by a small peck on her lips by Jane. "I'm not," the detective snickered slightly. She then moved her lips to Maura's forehead, unaware that Angela was gawking in shock until Jane noticed finally.

"What?"

"What," Angela almost screamed practically, making Jane and Maura wince. "When did this happen," Angela gestured wildly with her arms despite having hot coffee in her mug. "How long have you been hiding this? Who else knows?"

"Ma, quit swinging around and I'll tell you." Angela stopped immediately and looked at Jane intently. The detective sighed but took place behind Maura, wrapping both arms around her while the other leaned back in comfort. "It happened last night and no, we haven't been hiding anything but, I know that I don't want to hide the fact that I do care about Maura in a romantic sense."

"I return Jane's sentiment as well, Angela," Maura added. "I care about Jane deeply."

"I don't doubt that, Maura," Angela assured. She placed the mug down and let out a small giggle, "I'm actually happy for you both. But Jane, you hurt her, I will come after you."

"Hey! I'm your kid." Angela's eyes narrowed and Jane nodded, understanding why her mother stated it. "Ma, I could never hurt her, and I know she wouldn't do the same to me."

"Good. I'm going to leave you girls to have your time together," Angela smiled, picking up her mug. She walked toward the backdoor and opened the door, stepping out however, she walked back in and stated quickly, "Jane, even though you are seeing Maura does not stop you from giving me grandbabies!"

"Ma!"

The door closed quickly, and Jane released Maura from her hold with a low and embarrassed groan. She placed her forehead on the counter, muffling, "Still want to date me?"

"Absolutely," Maura answered, letting her hand travel to Jane's back, and rubbing it slowly. "Let's enjoy breakfast and see what information came in from last night."

"Alright…let me just marinate in my embarrassment for a bit longer."

"Marinating? That's a new one for you."

Jane raised her head. "I'm trying to prep myself for her doing that for a while. I haven't even taken you out on a date and she's asking."

Maura gave a small laugh and removed her hand from Jane's back. "I'm surprised that you even told your mother," Maura confessed.

"Why?"

Maura shrugged, "I wasn't sure how ready you were to tell everyone."

Jane reached out her hand. "I love you," Jane stated in a matter-of-fact tone. "I want to tell the world that you're my girlfriend."

"Girlfriend," Maura flirted with a shy smile.

Jane blushed, "Well yeah…I wanted to ask you properly but, ya know, Ma-"

Suddenly, Maura cupped Jane's cheeks and kissed her ardently with Jane wrapping her arms around the doctor's waist. She then pulled back with her lips still close to Jane's as she expressed, "I love you too and yes, I want to be your girlfriend too."

R&I

The ring was obnoxiously loud when Dani reacted. Her hand reached toward whatever direction as she answered groggily, "What?"

"Detective Stevenson, it's Detective Holiday."

"What can I do for you?"

"Let me patch Jane, Adam, and Korsak. Frost and Frankie are already here."

Dani waited and she blinked her eyes to see that she was sitting at her desk. It was a mess, almost ransacked when she noticed a note on her desk. Her blood went cold as everyone gave each other a good morning over the speaker until finally Dani heard Adam ask, "Danielle, you still there?"

"Yeah," Dani retorted, picking up the note and reading the simple words: Might need to update your mixture. The detective grumbled the note immediately, tossing it to the dying embers of her fireplace.

"Nina, what did you learn about Owen," Jane asked immediately.

"His name is Owen Waltz. He's definitely not in the Lycan registry that Nightfall provided."

"Wonder why he didn't register," Frost hummed.

"It's hard to pinpoint. If you're already showing signs of becoming a werewolf, it can cause some issues. Don't wish to be part of the clan especially if there's a price."

"What kind of price," Frankie inquired.

"Servitude," Adam retorted sadly. "We've tried to nip that in the butt several times but there's the unspoken rule about knowing your place in the whole alpha omega sense."

"We're in the twenty first century for Pete's sake," Korsak remarked.

"Doesn't matter. Time may past…," Dani looked around seeing that her visitor didn't stop at the letter but left a mess in her study. Books were open, file folders were fished through, vials were broken and even her brother's watch was missing, and that stupid cane was out. She sighed, rubbing her forehead, "but the old ways remain. It's been like that since we established ourselves here."

"Well, his girlfriend, Alicia Yorks placed a missing report recently," Nina informed. "Said he was home briefly, looking very pale and kept saying 'he's mad' repeatedly. Grab something then ran out."

"Nina, can you send that address to Korsak, Dani, and me," Jane asked.

"Definitely."

"Dani, do I pick you up from your apartment or-"

"I'll meet you there."

Dani then closed her phone and looked up to stare at the mirror's reflection. A smirk formed on the reflection and suddenly, Dani threw a photo frame causing the mirror to shatter.

Korsak observed quietly as Jane seemed more cheery than usual. She arrived at Headquarters with a grin and even greeted Crowe as she picked up Korsak. "You seem cheery," Korsak pointed out.

Jane glanced at Korsak, "Just been having a good morning."

"Must be a very good one."

"You can say that," Jane smiled, thinking about the hour earlier where she and Maura were practically acting like teenagers, making out and cuddling. For Jane, it was definitely different from her high school years; kissing Maura was soft, passionate, and it expressed everything that they felt for each other while back in high school or even with the men she was with before, it didn't feel like this. It felt more special, and it felt right.

"Jane?"

The detective looked at her former partner and said softly, "I'm happy for you."

"Thanks Vince," Jane smiled as they pulled up to the address. They then heard a motor revving and glanced behind them to see a motorcycle coming in fast. Suddenly, it pulled over to the side in front of the address where Jane and Korsak were going.

Korsak looked over. "Who the hell is that?"

Jane pulled the car and stepped out, stating matter of fact, "You know that you were speeding?"

"Here's my license and registration then," Dani retorted, taking off her helmet and had her hand out with her license and registration.

"Damn Dani, you need to slow down," Jane told Dani.

"Sorry, I didn't realize that I was going fast."

Korsak stepped out of the car. "No offense, you don't look too well either," the older detective added. Jane watched as Dani placed her license and registration back into her wallet then walked toward the cruiser to place her helmet into the car. In that moment, Jane took time to observe Dani who looked more dishevel more than ever. Her reddish-brown hair was shaggy, and her eyes seemed to show tons of exhaustion as if she didn't sleep. Her clothes didn't seem straightened with her button shirt misbutton and there was not even a sign of her vest.

"Dani, are you okay," Jane added.

"Rough night," Dani retorted.

"Didn't sleep much?"

Dani nodded then gestured toward the house, cutting the conversation. They walked up the pathway and knocked on the door to see a young woman wearing a black shirt with a pair of jeans. Her long black hair pulled back to show the redness of her cheek; she cleared her throat and greeted softly, "Hello, how can I help you?"

"Boston Police Department, ma'am. Are you Alicia Yorks," Korsak greeted, showing his badge as did Jane and Dani.

"I am. Is this about Owen," the young woman spoke. "Did you find him?"

Jane bowed her head and inquired, "May we talk inside?"

It was with those words; she began to fall forward with Dani catching her quickly and holding her up. They walked inside the house, entering the living room, and placed her on the sofa. The detectives could hear her mumbling "no" repeatedly as tears flowed down her cheeks. "We're sorry to be the bearer of bad news," Dani said softly as she handed a tissue. "But Owen was murdered several nights ago and as of recently, we were able to identify him."

"So you're homicide detectives," Alicia concluded.

"Yes," Jane confirmed. "You said, when you filed the report, that he seemed off. Correct?"

Alicia nodded. "He looked so pale, and he was sweating furiously. He also kept saying that "he's mad" and I tried to ask him what's wrong, but he just left without a word. I…I thought…never mind."

Jane, Korsak, and Dani shared confused expressions. "Anything you can think of Alicia could help us."

Alicia shook her head, "There isn't. I just remember that I have to make a phone call to a relative of his."

"Maybe we can help you with that," Korsak stated.

"It's alright…I just need to think what to do. How to arrange his funeral and who else I need to call."

Dani then noticed that the young woman was fidgeting with a pendant around her neck. "When the sun sets, the moon rises in the night sky. The true being is revealed," Dani recited. Alicia's head snapped up and Dani leaned back with a knowing expression.

"You're part of Nightfall," Alicia pointed out.

"You're the reason why Owen wasn't in the registrations."

Alicia nodded.

Hearing this, Jane looked at Korsak who was trying to catch up to everything. However, Jane knew what Dani's statement implied and stated simply, "She's human."

Thanks for reading! I hope to update soon but it might take a bit as well. Please review!
