A/N: First chapter that isn't from Sayu's POV! Yes not every chapter will be from her POV lol. I've been putting off writing the police scenes but they're not as bad as I thought lol

"Light? This is your little sister, Sayu. Make sure to take care of her."

And the toddler Light nodded, gazing at his new baby sister. He was a big brother now. He didn't understand what that meant. Why was there another baby? What he was supposed to do with it?

It looked like a learning opportunity had already arrived for the young boy.

Light Yagami was fuming.

How dare someone get in the way of his plans? Who did this foolish Anti-Kira think they were?

Initially, he'd believed the Lind L Tailor incident to be a… mistake of sorts. But he saw now… that was no error. Someone had resurrected Lind and all those FBI agents. To his dismay, he was unable to kill them for a second time. It seemed the note only allowed him to kill the same person once. Light had been cautious; he hadn't shown his face around any of the agents, and it was the right decision to make it seemed. He was safe, but for how much longer? The police would be onto him soon…

"What's going on, Ryuk?" he demanded. "Is there some kind of resurrection note akin to the Death Note?!"

The Shinigami chuckled. "Oh, yeah. Looks like you got the attention of the angels."

"What?" Light asked.

"They must've sent one of their own Life Notes," Ryuk continued.

"Life Note?" Light asked.

"It's exactly what you said before," Ryuk shrugged.

Light clenched his fist. So, someone out there had a Life Note… and they were using it against him.

That could only mean one thing: until he caught the owner of the Life Note, he couldn't proceed as Kira.

A grin stretched across his face. This Anti-Kira had no idea who they were messing with. He was going to become the god of the new world, and no one messed with god.

"This is absurd…!"

Soichiro Yagami furrowed his brow, hurried discussion racing around the office of the National Police Agency. What in the world was happening? Dead people were coming back to life, crying out loud.

"How is this possible?" "It can't be!"

The chief of police sighed, shaking his head. He stepped away from the rest of his team, leaning against the wall.

"Um, Chief Yagami?"

The chief of police looked up; young Touta Matsuda was walking over to him, offering a hot drink.

"Sleeping much?" Matsuda asked.

"Not really," Soichiro grumbled, accepting the paper cup. "Thanks for the drink, Matsuda. These late nights are really taking a toll."

"Yeah, tell me about it," Matsuda sighed.

He paused, looking away. Soichiro caught his eye.

"You're not getting any sleep either, are you?" he asked.

"It's just…" Matsuda clenched his fists. "I know it sounds ridiculous, but… it almost feels like we're in some kind of game."

"A game?" Soichiro raised his brow.

"I mean…" Matsuda sighed. "On one hand, we have Kira, who's going around and killing criminals, and then we've got the Anti-Kira reviving everyone they kill. It's… it's just like a game of tug and war!"

"A game is an interesting way to describe the battle over human life," Soichiro replied.

Matsuda sweat-beaded. "I'm really sorry, sir! I should've thought before I-"

"But you're absolutely correct, Matsuda," Soichiro replied. "Both Kira and Anti-Kira are toying with human lives. I don't know how, but we will stop them both."

Being a busy student preparing for college, Light Yagami had a lot of things on his mind. His cram school, his exams, his homework. His Kira work. But, notably, another thing had been bothering him recently: his little sister, Sayu. She was hiding something.

It was as obvious as the sun on a snowy day. Sayu had always been terrible at hiding her feelings, wearing her heart on her sleeve. Having lived with her for her entire life, Light knew her better than anyone. And while of course there was suspicion, he honestly found himself worried more than anything. Was the Kira investigation really making her that stressed? The girl was not getting any sleep. Her grades were slipping even further. Her energy was practically non-existent.

Light, truthfully, did not think much of most other people. His fellow students at school were annoying at best. The girls that wanted a piece of him drove him crazy, and definitely not in a romantic fashion. God, the migraines they gave him were unparalleled.

(He couldn't help but notice the gross, ickiness whenever girls put their hands on him. Wasn't he supposed to enjoy it? So many guys would kill to have all those girls. But the only joy he ever felt for them was pretend.)

Sayu was an exception to them all. While she was definitely an annoying little shit, she was his annoying little shit. An annoying little shit that was going through something she stupidly refused to divulge.

Light entertained the thought that she had the Life Note, but the notion was absolutely ridiculous. There was no way Sayu would be able to handle the pressure. She would crack like an egg.

Still, he found himself gazing over her room. There was no need to rush, since Sayu was at a friend's place. He saw nothing suspicious within, to which he would never admit his relief. He gazed at the books on her desk.

"Does the Life Note work on different rules from the Death Note?" Light asked.

"From what I remember, yeah," Ryuk shrugged. "It's the same sort of thing, but bits and pieces are different. It's made by Heaven, after all."

"So it could be possible that only Anti-Kira can see the Life Note," Light replied.

"Sure," Ryuk replied.

"I see," Light tapped his chin.

He eyed the pile of schoolwork on Sayu's desk. On her wall were some posters of that idol she adored, as well as a few pictures of herself and her school friends. Light scoffed.

"Oh, what am I thinking," he huffed. "There's no way Sayu is the Anti-Kira. If she got that kind of power, she'd refuse it. She's scared of power."

"You really think so?" Ryuk asked.

"Of course," Light narrowed his eyes. "I know her."

"Or maybe you just don't want to kill your little sister," Ryuk teased.

Light paused. He chuckled.

"Don't be ridiculous, Ryuk," he said. "If I want to truly become God, I must be willing to make sacrifices. That includes my family." He breathed out. "If Sayu really is the Anti-Kira, then yes. I will kill her without hesitation."

He spoke smoothly, clearly, as he always did. But Ryuk noticed Light wasn't looking at him at all. Instead, he was staring out the window, his shoulders tense.

Heh heh… the Shinigami mused, smirking. You really are something special, Light. This game just got a whole lot more interesting.

L watched over his screen, his brow furrowed. So… somehow, a human being had the power to raise others from the dead. How in the world had they acquired a power like that? Was it God themself? He turned on his microphone, his voice call addressing the police force.

"It's an interesting coincidence that both Kira and Anti-Kira live in the Kanto region of Japan," he mused. "Perhaps they are related somehow. They could be students at the same school. They could be friends." He paused. "They could be family."

(Family. Now wouldn't that just be the funniest coincidence, if Kira and Anti Kira were family, working against each other.)

Discussion arose amongst the police officers.

"Somehow, Kira also managed to gain access to police information," L continued, "which means they have connections to the police force."

The discussion continued, growing more and more frantic.

"I've had enough," one cop snapped, placing his badge down. "I resign!"

"Seriously?" another asked. "If Kira kills you, the Anti-Kira will just bring you back to life!"

"That's exactly it!" the cop snapped. "I don't want to be a part of this goddamn game! I won't let my life be treated like a means to an end!"

Another cop stood up. "I'm resigning too. I don't want any involvement in this. Not while our names and photo IDs are out there, ready for both Kira and Anti-Kira to use."

"What?" Soichiro asked. "But you guys are good cops! We need all the help we can get!"

The police officers left without another word.

"No!" Soichiro stood up. "You can't just-"

"If they really want to leave, then we should respect their decision," L spoke up. "They're correct. This is a dangerous game we're involved in, a game of human life. They should at least get the opportunity to not play along." He paused. "That goes for the rest of you. If anyone else wants to depart, now is your time."

To Soichiro's horror, more than half of the police force stood up. He wanted to speak up, but… he trusted L's wisdom. He was correct, after all.

Once the police officers had left, only a small group of around 7 remained, including L himself.

Soichiro sighed. "This is it. We're the remaining players in the game."

"It seems the Anti-Kira can only revive their victims once," L mused. "This is a dangerous game indeed."
