A/N: This chapter is pretty silly honestly, it's dramatic irony camp lol. I apologise in advance XD
"She's finally changing."
The angels nodded, hovering around images of a young schoolgirl.
"Yes, yes… she embraces her destiny."
As usual, my day took a sharp downhill turn when I encountered a weird woman. I was walking home from school, minding my own business, like a normal human, definitely not the Anti-Kira or anything like that. But of course, my day got ruined in a second.
"There is someone following you," Guardian told me.
"Of course there is," I sighed.
I looked behind me; yep, I could see a woman trailing behind me. She was American from what I could tell, like that guy that had been following Light. I was gonna assume she was with the FBI as well.
My brother would've just let the stalker follow him to see what their deal was, but I wasn't like him. I was getting real sick of creeps.
So I stormed over the woman, giving her my best angry glare. I probably wasn't all that intimidating, but I wanted to have a go anyway.
"Why are you following me?" I demanded.
The woman raised her brow in surprise. She turned away.
"So you saw me," she muttered.
"Yeah," I snapped. "What's going on?"
The woman furrowed her brow. "My name is Shoko Maki. I'm here under the order of the FBI."
So I was right! I thought. Haha! I can be just as smart as Lightie!
"Really?" I asked.
Maki nodded.
"I guess you suspect I'm Kira or something," I said.
Maki sighed. "Well-"
"You're dead fucking wrong!" I snapped. "I'm not involved with any of this Kira crap, okay?! And neither is my brother! Leave us alone!"
"Miss Yagami…" Maki clenched her fists. "I respectfully disagree."
"HUH?!" I shouted.
I could already feel my eyes welling up with tears.
Maki cleared her throat. "You see, your brother-"
Fuck this. I couldn't handle it anymore. I turned away, hiding my face behind my hands. My breathing was choked up.
"Sayu, calm down," Guardian told me.
I ran away, Maki calling after me.
"Wait, Miss Yagami!" her voice trailed off.
I was done. I was finished.
"Miss Yagami!"
For heaven's sake, she was still following me?! I guess I looked suspicious… but I didn't care. I just had to get away.
"I'm not Kira," I cried, "so just get lost already!"
Maki kept staring at me, her eyes cold. She had mid-length dark hair, and deep brown eyes that stared into my soul. She was wearing a black coat, with black boots. She was on the taller side, standing fiercely in the wind. (Wow, she was hot…)
My head was swimming. I swallowed, forcing myself to pay attention.
Oh, come on! I thought, fanning my cheeks. Focus!
Maki sighed. "If you say so… then fine. I believe you. You're not Kira."
"Wha- really?" I gasped.
Maki was observing me, her eyes narrowed. My cheeks were burning; ugh, my face must've been so red.
"The truth is…" she clenched a fist. "My fiancé would be dead if it weren't for the Anti-Kira."
"Really?" I asked.
Maki nodded. "I wanted to meet the Anti-Kira to thank them for saving him."
I looked away, hiding my face.
"Well….." I coughed. "I'm sure the Anti-Kira would say you're welcome."
"Sayu, you must contain yourself," Guardian told me.
Lay off, Mom! I thought.
Why did I have to be such a mess…
Maki crossed her arms. "I won't follow you anymore… but I would like to have a proper meeting. I need more information."
Just me and her? I thought.
"Ummmm," I whimpered. "Sure, if it'll help you. When?"
"Let's meet near To-Oh," she replied, "4pm, tomorrow."
I nodded. "O-okay!"
"This will not end well…" Guardian muttered.
I swallowed. I still felt like passing out, but I managed to keep my head on. Maybe this woman could help me out… or completely screw me over. Either way… we were meeting up, and I was pissing myself.
"There are cameras inside."
"What." I said.
I was standing outside my house, schoolbag in hand. Guardian's mouth was next to my ear.
"Your house has been fitted with security cameras." Guardian told me.
"Seriously?!" I snapped. "Why the hell would they do that?!"
Guardian stared at me.
"Oh, come on!" I groaned. "They can't seriously still think that…!"
I sighed, clenching my fists. There was no way I could go inside. No way. I hoped Mei was free
"Sayu?"
I looked up. Light was behind me, his head tilted.
"Lightie!" I gasped.
Before I knew what I was doing, I ran over to him, bear-hugging the hell out of him. I wanted to tell him about the cameras, but he was already under so much pressure. Would he even believe me? He'd question me. And then I'd have to tell him…
I swallowed. I wasn't quite ready to tell him about the Life Note. Not yet.
"What's wrong?" Light asked, putting a hand on my head.
"I…" I trailed off. "It's good to see you. It's just… you never know! Kira could kill you or me or Mom or Dad or Mei or anyone at any time!'
"Sayu…" Light sighed. "Don't worry about all of that. We're going to catch Kira."
"Well… honestly, the Anti-Kira could revive us," I added.
"I suppose," Light tilted his head.
His tone was a little… on edge. I swallowed.
"What do you think about the Anti-Kira, Light?" I asked. "Honestly?"
"They're just as bad as Kira," Light told me. "Really, toying with people's lives under the guise of stopping Kira? They're the same breed of monster."
"Yeah…" I looked down at my shoes. "But… you know. Kira is killing people."
"Both of them clearly have a warped sense of justice," Light replied, "and that is why they both need to be stopped."
I swallowed. My throat was completely dry.
"You look guilty about something," Light noticed. "Don't tell me you're the Anti-Kira."
I burst out laughing, like a maniac.
"No way!" I fell backwards. "I could never be the… I couldn't…"
My voice was failing me. Light just chuckled, helping me up.
"Of course you're not," he rolled his eyes. "I was just messing with you."
I swallowed. My throat was so dry. Why was he making me so uneasy?
"Who do you think the Kira and Anti-KIra are, then, stupidhead?" I asked, forcing a smile.
Light's eyes narrowed.
"I have some suspicions," he admitted, "most likely, a student. A very smart student, that is."
"Like you," I breathed.
He stared at me.
"Except not actually you, of course," I laughed. "You're no Kira!"
And Light just smiled.
"That's right," he agreed, "I'll be the one who catches Kira."
I breathed out. The sick feeling in my stomach was finally going away. Sure, there were cameras in my house, but they wouldn't find anything. Because there was nothing suspicious about my brother and I. We were just a pair of kids.
"Come on," I told him, leading him away from the house. "Let's go to the mall again!"
