"I…think I'm ready to carve my Palisman," Vee said shyly into the crow.

"I see," Dell replied, and while she couldn't see it, Vee knew her adoptive grandfather was smiling. "Your grandmother and I will be there shortly."

"Okay," Vee said, smiling brightly. "I will you see soon."

She hung up and set the crow free. She was about to look at her family when Luz tackled her. The two fell to the floor as the human hugged her basilisk sister.

"OHHH," Luz said, excited. "I'm so happy for you! What are you going to carve? Oh, oh, how about another shifter like Stringbeans!"

Camila and Eda smiled, and both walked up to their daughters. They gently grabbed their daughters by the arms and helped them up. Once the two girls were up and untangled from each other, the basilisk looked at her sister with a bashful smile.

"...Actually," Vee said bashfully, "I already have an idea. But can I keep it a secret?"

The entire Owl Familia smiled as the basilisk and Camila nodded. The human touched her adopted shoulder and looked lovingly into the girl's eye.

"Cria, you can do whatever you feel like," Camila said lovingly.

Vee's smile turned warm, and she hugged her mother. The other members soon joined in the hug.

True to his word, Dell and his wife arrived within the hour with the palistrom wood, and he, Camila, and Vee went to work. The other members of the Familia waited in the living room patiently with their palisman. Well…Eda, Lilith, Gwen, Amity, and Boscha waited patiently; Luz was tipping her foot.

"Luz, calm down," Amity told her fiancee, petting Ghost. "You of all people know how long it takes to carve a palisman."

"I know, I know," Luz replied excitedly, jumping to her feet. "But I can't wait to see what kind of cute critter Vee makes!"

Amity shook her head with a good-natured smile and went back to petting ghost. Luz frowned slightly as she looked at Ghost.

"Hey, Amity," Luz asked, sitting next to her future wife. "How did you get Ghost in the first place?"

Amity sighed and smiled a bitter smile as she looked down at her palisman. She stopped petting Ghost, and the cat-like creature looked at her witch with concern.

"Ghost was given to me by Odalia," Amity answered bitterly. "I didn't even get to choose, not like you or the others. She just handed me the completed staff and told me to bond with it. I don't regret getting Ghost, but part of me wished I had a choice like Vee."

Luz was quiet as she leaned in close and rested her head on Amity's shoulder. Stringbean moved from Luz's neck and lovingly wrapped herself around Amity. The tri-track student brightly smiled as she looked at the woman she loved with all her might and nestled close.

Lilith watched all of this unfold with a smile. She was glad that no matter what her past was, Amity had found happiness.

She looked to the ceiling, wishing her other niece good luck with her carving.

(A few hours later)

"I must say," Dell praised, stroking his bread. "You're quite talented. Not since I helped my youngest have I seen some study hands."

Vee bashfully smiled as she put away her carving tools. "I may have taken up wood carving as a hobby."

Dell nodded and looked around his adoptive granddaughter's room. Vee's different wood carvings were littering her shelves. The retired carver studied a few. He smiled as he noticed the process that Vee made from each of her carvings.

He sighed in content and turned his attention to the basilisk.

"Now, dear," Dell explained, "Once the coat dries, you'll need to speak your deepest desire to bond with your palisman."

It took another hour before the coat was completely dry. Vee took a deep breath and held out her hands.

"I wished to show everyone, not just those in the demon realm, that Basilisks aren't just mindless creatures that feed on magic," she whispered.

Camila, Dell, and Vee waited on edge to see what would happen. A minute passed, and it looked like the palisman wasn't reacting, and this saddened the young demon.

Camila and Dell watched as Vee's face fell, and it looked like she was close to crying. The human moved to comfort her daughter when they heard a noise. The three looked at the Palisman and saw it was shaking.

They watched with held breaths as the robin wood carving wings popped out, and the shaking stopped. Legs were next to appear, and finally, a beak formed as the palisman's body softened and elongated slightly.

Vee gasped softly as her new palisman looked around and then chirped when its eyes landed on her. Vee was close to crying, but tears of joy this time, as she slowly held her hand. The palisman didn't hesitant; it jumped right onto Vee's hand.

"Hey there, little fella," Vee said affectionately, bringing her new partner close.

The palisman nestled against her bonded creature's cheek, and Vee laughed. Dell and Camila smiled at the scene, and the retired carver got beside his adopted granddaughter.

"She's beautiful, dear," Dell said lovingly.

"Si," Camila agreed, nodding at her adopted grandfather. She then looked at her daughter with a smile. "Have you decided on a name?"

"...Actually," Vee said, looking at her new partner. "I was thinking of letting my palisman choose her name."

Vee looked at her new palisman with a smile. The bird-like creature chirped, and Vee gasped as she realized she understood her new palisman.

"Nyx, is that your name?" Vee asked, and Nyx nodded, causing Vee to squeal at the cuteness of it all. "OOOHH, you're just the cutest! I think you're even cuter than Stringbean."

Downstairs, a certain snake-shifter let out an annoyed hiss for reasons she couldn't understand. Back in Vee's room, the young basilisk jumped to her feet as she became excited.

"C'mon, Nyx! Let's go meet the rest of the family!" Vee exclaimed, running out of her room. "I know they'll love just as much as I do!"

Camila and Dell smiled as they followed Vee out of her room. They were also excited for the rest of the Familia to meet their newest member.

Now, we know how Vee got Nyx. I also used this story for my take on how Amity got Ghost. I always figured from how she talked in the second special that Amity didn't carve Ghost but, at least, had her staff handed to her.
I digress; next are a few shorts and one-offs starring everyone's favorite Tsundere and tomato. After that, we move into the background events of the "Sisters' Family Vacation" arc. Look forward to those.
