Chapter 11: Rest of the Week
Back home after the meeting and stopping to eat a small deer. Stepping onto the porch I shift into my Lycan form to open the door. Closing the door behind me I head for the kitchen and the phone on the counter.
Still, in my Lycan form, I pick up the large handset and use the dial pad to punch in Dr. Cullen's house phone.
It was late or early depending but Vampires do not need much rest and they do not need sleep. It's more than likely someone will be up and answer the phone.
The phone rang three times before it clicked that it was connected. "Cullen residence." The unmistakable high bell ring of Alice's voice came from the phone.
In Lycan form, my voice is similar to the thought speak voice I have. With a growly tone that is completely different from my human tone.
Over the phone the Cullens should recognize my voice fairly easily. "Hello Alice, this is Red. I'm calling to let you all know that my meeting with Quileutes went well and that all the pups have been informed of the rules."
"Should have known it was you when I had a vision of the phone ringing but could not see how the conversion went."
"That's nice, just tell your father, and I will see you on Monday by Alice."
"Wait Red, you will not be seeing us for most of the week." Alice said in a calm tone then in the background of the phone I heard a *Thump*
"Is that Red? I would like to talk to him." Edythe's voice came from the other end.
"No, I had the phone first. Don't just….." I held the handset away from my ear as the sound of someone dropping the phone and the line went dead.
I hung up the phone and headed for a hot shower. They will not be able to call me back, outgoing calls use a number that is blocked at this hour. They would need the number I gave Leah to call me any time of day.
Finally, get to sleep at 15:00 on Sunday and my alarm waking me at 06:30 Monday morning.
Heading out the door the weather was cold but the sky was clear and looked to be a sunny day.
I was in my human form with non-reflective Indigo eyes. Wearing a gray t-shirt, blue jeans, and my coat that I do not need, but wear to not stand out more.
I knew that Edythe and her family would not be at school with the sun out. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Wednesday was only sunny until 10:00 but the Cullens still did not show up for school.
Rumor was they all got the flu and Dr. Cullen was off work Monday and Tuesday to take care of them.
~Wednesday, Sep. 14~
I pulled my truck up to the garage Wednesday and stepped out of the truck. I sense something standing in front of my house.
Walking up to the house I could already tell who it was. "Hello Graystreak, what can I do for you today, having more trouble with some hunters?" I said to the 3′8″ gray and black streaked Sunwolf or as humans would call him a Direwolf.
{No, not hunter} Graystreak said with his ears and flick of his tail. Graystreak being a young Sunwolf of one winter does not have the skill to use thought speak with others or shift forms. Sunwolves do have a heightened intelligence that makes them smarter at a young age; a single winter old has the intelligence of an IQ level of 75.
Graystreak can understand what I'm saying but something will get lost in translation from both sides if we try to talk this way.
I took off my coat and started taking off my shoes as I spoke to him. "I'm going to shift so we can talk easier. The Shirt I am wearing is not shift-proofed so I took that off too and began my shifting.
To not be intimidating, I took on my natural wolf form just altering my height to be 3′8″ the same as Graysteak even though he has seen me at my full 6′. "(Red) Tell me what brings you." I said this using wolf signs as well, but of course, my signs are a mix of old Wolf, Dragon, and Elf.
"(Gray) {strange creature stalking wolf. Alpha Red, it said.}" he is not used to the human language and has not spent any time around them being so young, but I think I got what he is saying. {two or four legs?} I asked Gray with a flick of my tail.
{Two legs, fast, smells strange} he sighed. "(Red) {Take me to this creature and I will see what I can do about it.}"
Graystreak turns towards the forest, with a shake of his head and a flick of his ears. {Race you} before I could tell him that he is leading the way, he was already slipping behind the trees.
My wolf abilities were all enhanced by my father, Graystreak was born with an enhanced sense of perception, he can see things in full detail as he is running through the forest. This allows him to run faster than me in this dense area of trees.
Even with our similar sizes, I knew Graystreak was not wiping around trees as fast as he could, so I would not have to crash through the trees to keep up.
Heading for a spot where the trees are spread out more, I ran faster to catch up to him. He did not try and run faster instead he slowed.
{creature near} Slowing to a stop and making sure not to step on anything that would make a sound, I sniffed the air for anything. As I was sniffing the air, Graysteak sighed {Was near here}.
I signed back that I got that the strange creature was in the area and could have just left or had not been here for days.
I was just about to make a wolf call for an older Sunwolf, so they could more easily tell me what the problem is. When we both heard the sound of rustling leaves and someone talking in human English.
"We really should not be out here, the Guardian said that this is Werewolf land." it was unmistakably Jasper's voice. "Yes, he also said Werewolfs would not attack us without reason." Alice said back.
"Yes that, but how do you know that he will be out here?" Jasper asked.
"I do not, but we both saw the larger than normal gray and black wolf with silver eyes. it did not attack us and I asked it about Red Alpha. After it took off, I had a vision that said we should stay here for something to happen." Alice was saying as I sign to Graystreak to approach the two quietly as possible.
We move like shadows through the light snow and over leaves to stand behind the two Vampires. With the wind blowing towards us and not away, the two did not scent us, plus the area already had the scent of other Wolfs.
The two walk a few steps forward in the direction of a native wolf. The wolf bared her teeth and gave a warning *growl*, she did not run away as Alice approaches her.
I could tell Alice meant no harm to the she-wolf, but Graystreak began to tense up to spring at Alice. {No, stand next to me and follow my lead.} of course, Graystreak did what I signed to him to do.
I was about two hundred feet behind Jasper with Graystreak fifty feet to my right and Alice about ten feet in front of Jasper talking to the she-wolf.
"I'm not going to hurt you, I would like it if you could lead me to the Red Alpha or call him here?"
{STAY BACK, KEEP AWAY} The wolf growled and as she was looking around for any more danger she notices the two of us. Most of the native wolfs have never seen me and would not recognize me right away in my current state. Graystreak was a different matter he is the Sunwolf Prince of the forest and without the training to shift his form he is recognized by more than eighty percent of wolfs living in the forest.
{Sun Prince} her head turned slightly to me with surprise in her body language she signs {Shadow King}
"Wait, something is wrong she is no longer feeling, as in danger. It's like she is relieved that someone is here."
"(Red) {Alice do you have to start scaring all the wolfs in the area to get my attention?} you could have waited until school tomorrow, it going to be dark and gloomy the rest of the week."
Alice started looking around the she-wolf for me since thought speak does not give sound direction. Jasper was the first to spot us as he turned around to see what the wolf was looking at.
"Love, they are behind us." Jasper said raising his hand out to the side to block Alice from stepping from behind him and approaching me.
"I was right, the gray one is a Werewolf and they could get you for me."
"(Red) What can I do for you, Alice?"
"I wanted to ask some quested but Jasper would not let me come alone, so they can wait." Alice said.
Jasper spoke up."We are here because the mind-reading sibling has been driving us crazy. Edward wants us to leave when we just got here and has been making this point known since Friday. Edythe argues that she needs to stay in school in order to learn new customs, but Edythe has always hated going to school over and over. The worst part is they fight using their mind reading this has their emotions going up and down. I try to calm them down but they gang up on me."
"The future also keeps shifting to us leaving with and without Edythe, then back to us all staying then it repeats. Some of Edythe's futures disappear and I get a migraine from trying to look into them."
I spoke to Alice alone. "(Red) The migraine is from yours and my future sight overlapping. This happens because we get the same vision and change it to fit our desired outcome, sins the future event is being altered by the other the vision should not have happened this is referred to as a sight paradox. They are quite annoying which is one of the reasons seers do not get along."
Speaking to all I said. "I do not know how I am supposed to help with a fight between two mind-reading siblings. I'm only a wolf.
"I can not see the leading factors to my vision but the one where I was standing here talking to what seems to be a large gray wolf puts me close to the right outcome I could exist with."
"(Red) What outcome would that be and is it something just you could live with or your whole family."
I looked from the two Vampires to Graystreak, then back waiting for Alice to respond.
"It's something we can all live with except maybe Edward, but I can not see so I do not know. I'm not going to be worried about it. Ok, in my vision I was speaking in front of the Gray wolf, you were most likely the one I was talking to but I could not see or hear you in the vision. I talking about you meeting with Edythe tonight around 20:00. I had my phone out and…"
Alice raised her hands to her head and rubbed her temples.
Jasper who was quiet while we talk turned his back to us with concern in his voice. "Love, you should not try to look into the future." he pulled Alice into his arms and I could see the pain in her face and sense his worry.
I notice that Jaspers's back, arms, and neck were covered in healed marts. These marks told me that Jasper is a Vampire berserker or worse a Worrier. Vampire berserker can be fought off with close-quarter hand-to-hand combat. Worriers have training not to just use brute strength but their agility, speed, and witts to fight hand to hand.
If I was a threat to them or if one of the other Wolfs tired anything Jasper would have no trouble with them and from the look of him he could hold me off long enough for Alice to get away or injure me.
I shook off my sudden weariness of danger to speak to the two Vampires.
"(Red) Alice you need to let the event play out otherwise the migraine will continue."
"I know, sorry I have been doing this for a long time with my siblings reading my mind and changing my plans."
Alice pulled out her phone. "We still have a few minutes before I call Edythe about setting up your date." Alice gave a sigh and rub her head. It seemed that she was not going to continue talking until the phone call in order to stop herself from saying something that would give her a bigger migraine.
Graysteak was still nearby and pacing back and forth behind me. Once everyone stopped talking he came over to stand next to me so I could see him and wanted to study the two Vampires closely. The she-wolf had moved off with her pups when Alice was no longer interested in her.
{What now, leave?} Gray signed {No, waiting} I sighed back.
~Time laps~
After what felt like twenty minutes Alice and Jasper walked over to us. I forced myself not to step away when Jasper got within grabbing distance.
Alice was already talking on her phone. "No, Edythe I'm not calling you from a distance so you can not get into my head and find a counterargument. Do not bother to argue I have seen this conversion already so I'll get to the point. I found Red and he would like to meet with you."
Edythe's voice came from the phone. "I would like to talk to him."
Alice stared at me, then said into the phone "how is he supposed to talk to you over the phone?"
Giving a wolf mischief grin leaning forward towards the phone I let out a barking laugh.
Edythe's voice came from the phone exasperated "why do you laugh when I ask you a question?"
There was a pause as if she expect me to give an answer. Shaking my head I spoke to Alice. "(Red) Alice, tell her that Wolfs do not speak, She will understand. As for meeting up, tell her I will see her at the clearing she was dancing in on Wednesday and to wear something good for hunting. Tomorrow at 20:30."
"Red said Wolfs do not talk and I get to dress you for your date tomorrow."
"Alice, I can dress myself for a meeting with my wolf-friend."
"Your wolf-friend." Alice said looking at me and giving me a curious look. Still on the phone and looking at me closely Alice asked "Did you guys do anything on Friday night"
Edythe made a *squeaking* noise on the phone and then said in a higher and faster voice. "Alice look at the time I need to get some sleep for school tomorrow by Alice by Red."
"Edythe you know we do not sleep, now tell me." there was no response from the phone as Edythe had already hung up.
Putting her phone away Alice opened her mouth to ask me but I turned my face to the right and used my left eye to glare at her.
Alice seemed to change her mind and asked "why did you come to me first?"
Jasper spoke defensively from behind her. He had positioned himself to her left with his right hand around her waste. It looked like he was ready to pull her behind him and fight at any moment.
I am resisting the urge to go into a fighting stance. I could sense his sense of my readiness. This tension between Edythe's family is something we are going to have to fix.
"What do you mean he came to you?" Alice looked at me to say something but I just waited for her. She opened her mouth to say something when I saw her eyes get wide and she looked confused for a second before lifting her left hand and pointing to her head.
Speaking just to her "(Red) What is it Prophetess, what did you see? Do not look surprised, you know I'm a Clairvoyant."
Alice waved her left hand and pointed to her head. She apparently wanted to speak privately using thought-speak.
"(Red) Ok, we can speak this way now but from a distance, it is difficult to block an empath from reading you. If you are unaware there is one with its hand around you."
"(Alice) He, is not an it and He is my mate so play nice. Now would you answer my question first, why did you come to me not Edythe or Carlisle."
"(Red) That is an easy answer. I told you that Seers can not see other Seers. You are an unknown in the future of possible outcomes. I can not see if your actions or inaction from seeing the future you have or have not seen.
In my experience over the Winters, intruding myself to the Seer of the Pack, Coven, Family, Etc. it is much better than trying to sneak around them.
"Hey do not leave me out, what are you two talking about?" Jasper's tone was a bit aggressive and he shifted himself closer. This small movement causes me to take a step back and put up my defenses.
Graysteak being just past his first winter did not have the experience to realize how dangerous this Vampire Warrior is. Instead of stepping back, he steps forward and lets out a menacing *growl* that would have a human running. The forest went quiet and I could hear the sound of birds and land animals scattering.
Jasper reacted quickly letting out his own *growl* pulled Alice behind him and step up to Graysteak. causing Graysteak to *snarl* and show his razor-sharp teeth.
"No, we are not doing this. Jasper back up." Alice said wrapping her hands around his waist and pulling. "Red, get him to back off."
Speaking to everyone around the area including the two wolfs running towards us and the three pacing around the clearing.
"(Red) Graysteak, you need to back off. That goes for the five of you. Alice, tell me what you saw in your vision that way you can go, and I'll deal with the wolf misunderstanding."
Graysteak was not backing off so I stepped next to him on the left. Ignoring Jasper's *snarl* I lean my right shoulder into him. He did not budge so I shifted my weight into him, and me being too heavy he staggered sideways trying to replant his right paws.
The two SunWolfs came up behind us flanking to either side of me so they could lunge at the two Vampires. The two SunWolfs were in their true forms making them light gray, eyes moonlit silver and they stood at roughly 5'8" making them taller than all of us except for Jasper being 6'3".
Even though the Sun is not penetrating the clouds as long as the Sun is facing this side of the earth, SunWolfs are much stronger at this time.
This is not going well and I'm about to make it worse, but SunWolfs are not under my command, they are under the control of the SunWolf King, and I do not sense her presence.
Speaking to Jasper and Alice only. "(Red) I going to shift so do not freak out or try anything. Understand?"
Alice nodded her head and afterward so did Jasper. Still leaning on Graysteak I shifted from my current 3'8" to my full 6' Wolf form. I did not just get taller my bones and muscles in my legs and the rest o my body showed. In this form, I simply move the shoulder and shove Graysteak over onto his side.
The group looks at me with shock even Graysteak who has seen me in my full Wolf form before. One of the SunWolf signs to me {Speek}.
I opened my mind to speak with just the Wolfs. "(SunWolf1) What is going on, we heard the Prince. We find you and him standing off with a creature that gives off a sense of danger. It looks like you are protecting them as well and pushing the Prince around."
"(Red) The Sun Prince came to the Wolfhouse and informed me that these two were looking for me. He led me here we were discussing something and the Prince got jumpy and started this stand-off with the tall one. His name is Jasper and his mate is the small one her name is Alice. It would be great if you take Graysteak away so I can finish my talk with these two and then I can go home.
The two SunWolfs look at each other and then at the rest of us. {Prince we are going} trying to be smart or playing dumb Graysteak sighed back {by then}.
One of the SunWolfs thumps his tail onto the ground Jasper gets jumpy from the sound it makes but does not move from his spot with Alice behind him with her hands around his waist.
{Your coming Prince} Graysteak seam to get he is in trouble and his shoulder, tail, and ears droop. He makes a weak sign and then walks off into the tree fowled by the two SunWolfs.
After a minute or two, Alice speaks up. "That did he say?"
I looked at them confused for a few seconds before Jasper spoke. "We noticed that you would flick your ear or swoosh your tail when talking to the smaller wolf. Moreover, what are they and how come we have not seen them in the time we have lived in Forks?"
Sensing that the other three Wolfs had moved out with the SunWolfs. I spoke to the two Vampires.
"(Red) First his name is Graysteak. He is young and has not picked up human English yet, but he basically signed that he was sorry that he snapped at you. They are SunWolfs, the human residents of Forks call them SilverWolfs because they all have glowing silver eyes. If you integrated with humans you should ask them about larger than normal Wolfs with silver eyes. As for not seeing them during your time that's hard to believe. Answer me what time does your family normally hunt?
"We hunt late at night to make it hard to be seen." Alice said moving from behind Jasper to standing on his left with her right hound around his waist and head under his right arm.
"(Red) Well then the answer is quite simple SunWolfs are diurnal. This means that at night when the nocturnal predators are out the SunWolfs hide and their nocturnal cousins protect them. If one of you is out hunting and stumbles into a SunWolf den during the night run as fast as you can. Ok, Alice now that I answered your questions and other Wolfs and mammals are gone. What was it that you saw in your vision?
Even sitting Alice had you look up at me now that I was 6' she still reminds me of a Fae Pixy.
"The vision was not normal. I usually see stuff play out live in a movie, I watch a scene, rewind it change something then watch it again until the movie has the ending I want. This vision was like a concept scene from a script, the images were still without sound then it would flip like a PowerPoint. It seemed like a lot of important information was missing.
It started with an image of Forks high school, light flakes of snow are falling, but the trees and school have ice covering it. The parking lot has spots where snow is not sticking to it. That is all I could tell then the next image was of a Chevy Van, Ford Mustang, and Nison sedan they looked to be entering the parking lot or stopped I could not tell since the vision was still.
The next image was that the Chevy Van seemed to be parked really close to an old red pickup truck. The next image was the school parking lot pull of police cars, an ambulance, and a dually wrecker was hooked to the passenger side of the Chevy Van. looking like it was going to pull it sideways.
There is one more this that is strange about this vision but it is only for Red to hear." "[ Jasper do not worry he will not hurt me.]" With that Alice stepped away from Jasper walked up to me and lifted her hand. I lower my head and she put her hand on my jay, it was, of course, cold as a freezer pack.
"(Red) Ok, Alice you are free to talk. I'm blocking you from any mental prying."
"(Alice) The vision did have sound, well it was a woman's voice. The voice said the Shadow Wolf Lord should not reveal his false self to his soul. That Earth and Night shall deny their name in turn. Do you know what that means?"
I step back from Alice so she was no longer touching me. My tail swishes back and forth in annoyance. If it was just Night asking this I would ignore it and probably tell everyone.
If Earth is agreeing with Night and Night would never say Earth is in agreement falsely, that would start a fight and the other would not like it.
Speaking to Both of them. "(Red) Yes Alice, I understand what it means. I have to go ill see Edythe tomorrow at 20:30."
"Then what does it mean?" "(Red) It means Alice that I can not tell your family my secret identity nor can you."
With that, I ran across the clearing into the now darkening trees.
