Chapter 86 (Daily)
Dawn sighed sitting on her living room couch. She stared at her phone for a full minute struggling with the conversation she was about to have. Eventually, she dialed in her number and waited two rings before someone picked it up.
"Dawn?"
"Hey, Mom." Dawn said nervously.
"I haven't heard from you in ages." Mrs. Sawyer said. "What's this about?"
Dawn sighed. "Look, this may be a long shot… but this weekend is a very big event for me and everyone at Xtrema. I was hoping to send you some very special tickets as a VIP?"
"Can't do that, Dawn." Mrs. Sawyer said. "I can't take a vacation from my office."
"Mom, I know you. You take like two PTO days a year for your biannual teeth cleaning. I know you can afford a weekend to see me work."
"Okay, let me rephrase that. I can't take a vacation from my office just to see that ridiculous waste of life that you call 'work'."
Dawn rolled her eyes. "Wow. I saw it coming, but you're still merciless."
"Dawn, I'm not going to lie. I think your professional wrestling career is an absurd job."
"Tell that to the millions of fans that cheered for me when I won the Xtrema World Championship."
"Dawn, this is ridiculous. I've told you time and time again that…"
"I know what you told me! I just wish that you would support me for once!"
"Support you catfighting with other girls while you're half-naked? You would've made an excellent lawyer!"
"No! I'd be a terrible one!"
"How would you know?"
"Because I've been arguing with you for half of my life and I can't get a single point through your head!"
Mrs. Sawyer sighed in annoyance. "I'm sorry, Dawn, but I can't believe that this is the perfect life for you. The only thing I do believe is that you don't really care about that boy you're stringing along. I don't condone how you're treating him, but I'm glad your relationship is just for show."
Dawn widened her eyes. "You mean Kaito? Oh, my… Mom!"
"What?"
"My relationship with Kaito is real!" Dawn shouted. "We really are boyfriend and girlfriend!"
A moment of silence fell to Dawn's ears. "Excuse me? You're really committed to a relationship with someone who even I see as a weak man?"
"He's not weak, Mom! He's getting better!"
"Dawn, you're wasting your time. You need a real man."
"He is a real man! It's bad enough that you're criticizing my career! But now, you want to talk to me about what kind of partner I should have? I should have known."
"Dawn, I'm just thinking about what's best for you."
"Well, you don't know! All you know is what's best for YOU! Well, I'm not your clone, Mom! I can do what I want! I can date who I want! I really wanted you to be at Xtrema Against the World so you can finally see me and be proud, but if you're going to be like this, then I'm sorry for wasting your time! You know what? I'm giving my ticket to Dad! At least he supports me! See you in another year!"
Without any other word being said, Dawn quickly hung up before throwing her phone to the pillow. She gripped the edge of her cusions hard trying to hold in her anger. She took really really deep breaths before talking to herself.
"Well, I tried. If she doesn't want to be there, that's her business. I can get by without her."
Still reeling after her loss the other day, Electra returned to the Daughters of Darkness in shame. She made it to the address of their dark and lair and entered inside. It was mostly dark with no natural sunlight coming from anywhere. At the end of the grim living room, she saw Midnight wearing her hood and Azraella standing next to her. She also saw one of Midnight's brides, Taki, standing next to her.
Once Electra approached, she hung her head in shame. "Forgive me. I couldn't do it. I tried my best… but that woman got the best of me."
Midnight gave a sly smile before turning to her bride. "Taki, dear, how would you judge Electra Sinders?"
"I'd say she passed, ma'am." Taki said.
"What?" Electra asked confused. "But I lost the 24/7 belt. Why…"
"We never said you had to win the belt." Azraella said. "We told you to challenge Cirrus for her belt, that the outcome will determine your position. And so far, we're impressed."
Taki gave his tablet to Midnight who looked over the notes on it. "You blindsided Clementine Cirrus, struck her relentlessly with your guitar, choked her while she was down, threw dirt in her eyes, and made her scream beautifully for a long minute. I don't know about you, but I'd say that means you have quite a dark heart. And a heart consumed by darkness is all you need to be one of us."
"So… that means…" Electra said with great expectancy.
"That's right." Azraella said. "Electra Sinders, you are hereby a Daughter of Darkness."
Electra felt and overwhelming feeling of pride wash over her. She smiled before walking up to them. "I'm honored."
"Don't celebrate just yet." Midnight said. "We'll make you an official member after Xtrema Against the World. Until then, keep harvesting your dark heart by using it against Britt Baker."
Electra snickered wickedly. "Don't worry. When I'm done with her, she's the one who'll be in need of a dentist."
Carly X had entered Matsuda and Juli's looking around for her mother. She found her in a far-off booth wearing a hooded trenchcoat and a pair of sunglasses. She almost didn't recognize her. She sat down across from her.
"Hey, Mom." Carly said.
"Hey, Carly." Miss X said. "Look, about everything that happened between us…"
"Mom, what's this about?" Carly asked. "You sounded serious on the phone and I'm beginning to worry."
Miss X sighed. "I'll be honest. I feel like I'm losing control."
"What do you mean?" Carly asked.
"Exactly as it sounds. Between Tiger Mask showing up, Tiger the Dark getting crippled, this war we have with NJPW, and Mr. X and Tiger the Great taking over, I feel like I'm losing everything I worked so hard to get."
"So you're calling me here to vent out your frustrations?" Carly asked.
"No. I just…" Miss X took a deep breath. "I just need to talk to someone. Anyone. Even someone who wouldn't want to see me."
"Mom, I've always wanted to see you. I just thought you didn't want to see me."
X sighed. "Yeah. Looking back at it now, I can see why you'd think that. In fact, I've been thinking a lot about myself now that I think back at everything I've done. I've seen and done terrible things that would have you see me differently. The truth is, I never made time for you because I didn't want to introduce you to my world, to the dark side of GWM. In all honesty… I hope GWM loses."
"Really? But you seemed so proud of everything on TV."
"I had to. I have Tiger the Great and Mr. X over my shoulder and they want to get rid of NJPW and Tiger Mask. It's hard to get away from them. I even had my assistant, who I just learned was Mr. X's niece, to a work-related business so I could be here now with you."
"Carly?" a familiar voice asked making both customers flinch. Jun Juli approached in her waitress outfit. "Carly X? I thought that was you."
Carly's eyes widened. "Oh. You're… Jun Juli, right? The girl with the legs?"
"You know it." Jun said proudly extending her leg a step forward. "Haven't seen you here before. Who's your friend? She seems familiar." Miss X panicked and tried to keep her identity hidden.
"She's… A fan." Carly said.
"Yes, I am." Miss X complied. "Yep, I loved how she and Thunder Mana tangled against the Killer Kitties at Supernova."
"Oh, okay. Nice work getting in touch with your fans, Carly." Jun said before taking their orders. Once she was done, she headed off back to the kitchen. That was when Carly turned back to her mom.
"Did you see me and Mana at Supernova?" Carly asked. "I had no idea."
Miss X smiled. "Honestly, after our talk at my car… I kinda kept up with all your work at Xtrema. You did pretty good. I'm… proud."
Carly lost her breath for a second returning the smile. "Thanks, Mom."
"You're welcome."
The two of them kept up their conversation taking up an entire hour of catching up.
Late in the night, Sayuri and Jackal met up in the latter's room with two glasses of wine between them.
"To us." Jackal said raising her glass.
"Cheers." Sayuri agreed tapping her own glass with Jackal's. She chuckled. "I know this is old for me to say, but we've come quite a long way since when we were rookies."
Jackal smirked. "Tell me about it. Remember our first sparring match after our first match?"
"AAAHHH!" screamed a young Jackal while the young Sayuri held her in an extremely painful armlock.
"Keep screaming, blondie!" Sayuri taunted wickedly.
Jackal gritted her teeth angrily before bending her arm smacking her elbow into Sayuri's face. She let go which gave Jackal the opportunity to get back up and chop at Sayuri in the throat. They growled at each other before grabbing onto each other's hair. They rolled around the ring fiercely until their overweight coach stepped in and forced them to celebrate.
"That's enough, you two! This is a sparring match, not a porno catfight!"
"You can't blame me, Coach Kazumi!" Sayuri yelled out. "Blondie here's just jealous because I beat her the other night!"
"You only won because you cheated!" Jackal argued.
"A win's a win!" Sayuri shot back.
"And a punishment's a punishment." Coach Kazumi said. "You two, run twenty laps around the parking lot outside!"
"What?" Sayuri asked.
"But it's scorching hot outside!" Jackal shouted.
"Don't backtalk me! Outside now!" Coach Kazumi ordered.
Back in the present day, Sayuri and Jackal continued their laugh.
"Yeah, we were stupid." Sayuri said.
"No, I was stupid. You were just a bully." Jackal said.
Sayuri sighed. "I guess I was. Anyway, would you like to know who my roster is bringing with their VIP passes?"
"I don't see why not." Jackal replied.
"All right." Sayuri pulled out her phone to check. "Well, Queen Bee just sent an invite to her father, Clementine is inviting her sister, Kyoko Natsumi is inviting one of her relatives, La Calavera is bringing her boyfriend, Mercy is bringing her cousin, Scarlette is bringing… a fan of hers, Kaito Marx is inviting his mother, Sam Hamilton is bringing her tailor, Clover's inviting someone else, and Poison is inviting a friend of hers named Roxy. Some of the others wanted to bring someone, but they weren't available. Everyone else just didn't bother."
"And where do you fall into that category?" Jackal asked. "I noticed you didn't include yourself on that list of people who's giving away VIP tickets."
Sayuri put her phone back in her pocket. "Well, I know none of my relatives have the time to make it."
"What about one of our friends at Shangri-La?" Jackal asked. "I'm sure they'd love to be invited."
"Well… Honestly, I never felt like I was that close with them. At least, not as close as I was with you. To be frank, whenever I think about who in Shangri-La I'd want to invite, I can't think of anyone else but you."
"Oh, stop. You're making me blush." Jackal said before looking at her watch. "Yikes. Is it really that late? Sorry, Sayuri, but we're both going to have to turn in at our own homes. We both have got busy schedules ahead."
"All right." Sayuri said getting up. She picked up her stuff and headed out the door. The turned to give one last smile to Jackal Tojo. "I'll see you in Tokyo, Jacky."
"You too." Jackal said. "I'm looking forward to beating the hell out of you."
She shut the door leaving Sayuri with an amused chuckle. She gave a warm smile while thinking to herself. "What a woman."
The day of departure has come. In mid-morning on Thursday, the Xtrema roster finished their packing. Some took their cars. Others rode the train. Some were nervous, but they were also really excited about the upcoming weekend.
Both Dawn Sawyer and Kaito Marx went into the same car with the latter at the wheel. He turned to his girlfriend with some concern.
"You okay? I know I kinda pushed you into talking to your mom and I'm sorry…"
"Don't worry. It's not your fault." Dawn said. "If she didn't want to support me, so be it. For now, let's go. I've got a grudge to settle and you've got a Keijo girl to make quit."
"Okay." Kaito said as he changed the gear shift. "By the way, thanks for helping me come up with a finishing move. I hope it works."
"I'm sure it will." Dawn said. She put on a very determined face as they drove down the path to Tokyo. "Be prepared, Kaito, because we are about to wrestle the world."
*Xtrema Shorts*
The crowd gave their loudest applause yet for Chibi Monica Everly who paraded onto the main stage. She gave peace signs with her fingers before sitting down next to her guest, a Chibi version of La Calavera.
"Welcome to Xtrema Shorts! We're here to welcome our final guest from the Xtrema roster! Please, welcome our masked luchadora, La Calavera!"
Chibi Calavera waved to the cheering crowd. "Happy to be here."
"We're happy to have you here." Chibi Monica said. "So we'll be giving you a set of standard questions followed by some personal questions asked by our readers, specifically, Awesome ax10."
"I have nada to hide. So fire away."
"All right. Now, How long have you been wrestling?"
"Twelve years."
"Do you have any dream opponents?"
"Well, I heard that Maria's daughters, Selena and Maya, have joined the professionals with Berserk. They'd be good opponents for me. I'd go with her son too, but I don't do intergender matches."
"How do you feel about your fans?"
"I love them. There's nothing I wouldn't do for them."
"What's the toughest match you've had so far?"
"If you mean here in Xtrema, that would have to be against Sarah Abulaziz. She was tough to keep down. But no matter what, it was nothing compared to this opponent I faced back in Mexico called Loco Coco. Like the name implies, she's loco. I don't want to get into it, so you'll have to take my word on it."
"What do you do for fun?"
"I like playing guitar."
"What do you think makes a great wrestler?"
"Hard work and dedication."
"Do you have any interests besides wrestling?"
"I am an avid movie watcher. Sometimes, I get my boyfriend to watch classic movies for the first time with me. They're always romantic evenings."
"All right then. Now, for the personal questions. How did you feel about working for Mammy before the bankruptcy of your promotion?"
Chibi Calavera sighed before answering "That woman is so inconsistent. She blamed GWM for taking her male wrestlers, but she's not exactly without fault either. She tends to nag whenever she doesn't get her way and she always came up with the most convoluted plans that would obviously not work. And I certainly didn't like the way she treated the Saboten, her own son. I swear, if I ever face her in the ring, I'll enjoy beating her."
"When and how did you meet your boyfriend?"
"I met Mitsuki Sakamoto back when I first moved to Japan. I didn't know my way around and only had a crash course in Japanese on the plane ride. I went by a coffee shop where I bumped into him. When I told him how everything was new and strange to me, he offered to show me around town. I don't know why, but I instantly trusted him. He was so nice during the tour and wanted to know if we could meet at a later date. One date lead to another and… Well, I'm sure you can figure out the rest."
"Do you enjoy collecting masks from defeated opponents? If so, could you provide a list of masks you wish to collect?"
"I only collect masks if I have to. It's not my first choice for a stipulation, but it is mandatory in some cases in lucha libre. And if there's anything I pride myself on, it's my honor."
"What can you tell us about your relationship with Maria Hirano?"
"We met back at Mexico when I was working for Mammy. We had a match against each other and it really excited me. She won, but despite the competition, we remained good friends. Mammy forbad it because Maria was 'the enemy', but it's not like I listen to her anyway."
"Well, thank you for your cooperation, Ms. Calavera. And to you, our readers, this appears to be everyone on the current Xtrema roster who we can interview. We decided to exclude Charlie Hart because she was Awesome ax10's character and they already gave her a Q&A segment. We'll eventually be doing second interviews with the Xtrema characters along with questions for our Hardkor OCs, so if anyone has any new personal questions for them, feel free to ask.
"On another note, as much as this pains us, Epiclot214 has some news regarding this fanfiction. We'll be taking a break from the main plot for a few months, so don't expect a continuation to the story until 2022. The reason for that is because of how long Xtrema Against the World will be. With Fall coming up, we wouldn't want our Halloween and Christmas specials to get in the middle. We'll have our Halloween and Christmas specials before 2022, but you'll have to wait until the new year for us to get to Xtrema Against the World.
"Also, we have decided to hold off on the Xtrema awards show until after the Christmas special as well. Probably until New Year's to kick it off. So if anyone has any nominations for the following categories based on the fanfiction so far, let us know and we'll decide among five choices.
