Jace Wayland
We never got the chance to finish our talk.
The next evening, I found myself on the deck surrounded by what seemed to be an army of dead people.
I treaded around them carefully, looking around sadly at the many lives taken by his attempt at making a new race. I knelt in front of a girl, who was probably around my age. She was too young to have suffered this fate.
"Jace…" I heard a feminine voice call out from behind me. Lissa?
"Clary?" I asked incredulously. How the hell did she get here? I jogged towards her, "Clary. How did you get here?" All by yourself and without any backup? This is strange…
"I portaled in." she said hastily before looking around to see if anyone could see us, "Come on, let's go. We don't have much time."
Without Lissa? Is she serious?!
"I can't."
"What?" she echoed in a shocked voice.
"Look, we got to get you out of here," I whispered harshly as I tugged her closer so I could quieten my voice before someone overheard us.
"No, I'm not leaving without you," she replied stubbornly. Why does she have to be so stubborn? Why can't she just listen to me for once?
I heard a distinct sound of a seraph blade being drawn. I spun around to see one of the goons running towards us. I grabbed the hilt of the blade and used my elbow to knock his face back. I twisted his arm behind him, grabbed the weapon before knocking him out with my knee. I ran back towards her as I heard footsteps approaching.
"My dear Clarissa. You are tenacious, aren't you?" Valentine remarked as he and the two henchmen flanking his sides approached us.
"Stay back," I warned as I pushed Clary behind me and began to edge us away.
He drew his blade and pointed at me, getting into his stance. My seraph blade slowly began to glow as his did too. He made the first move by lunging forwards and striking towards my knees. I blocked his manoeuvre and began to exchange blows with him. We came to a slight pause as both our blades were pressed towards the floor. I glared at him before restarting the blows. I hit the post beside him, causing a shower of sparks to fly in his face, blinding him. This gave me the perfect opportunity to skewer him with my blade.
I looked him in the eye. That was for Lissa and I. I pulled my blade back out and began to back away in disbelief. I just killed my father.
I'm a monster.
"I killed him."
I heard Clary's distant voice, "Jace, come on. Let's go."
One of the henchmen shouted out in concern behind us, "Valentine…"
"We have to go, now!" Clary continued in a hurry before tugging me away.
"NO! Get 'em!" one of the men shouted as we ran off.
Clary began to lead us through a series of passages as I stayed in a daze.
"The portal is close… I think." that broke me from my daze.
"What?" I asked, startled. "NO! We have to go somewhere else."
"Where would we possibly need to go?" Clary asked in shock.
I shook my head in annoyance and yanked my hand from her arm and began to dash in the opposite direction, "I need to find Lissa. I'm not leaving without her."
I heard her running after me, "Jace wait! JACE!"
I spun around and glared at her, "I'm NOT leaving without her." I pointed in the other direction, "If you want to leave. GO.I'm not going anywhere if Lissa isn't there with me. We've been apart for too long, we're not being separated again if I can help."
She nodded in understanding, "Okay. Let's go" I looked at her oddly, "Let's find her then." she agreed before beginning to run again. This is weird. Why would she even think that we would leave without Lissa?
My thoughts were interrupted as an unknown force pushed Clary and I apart.
I spun around to see… Valentine? I thought I just killed him!
"Miss me, son?"
I looked at him in disbelief. How?
He did some fancy manoeuvres before lunging forwards and restarting our deadly dance between our swords. We exchanged blows as I heard Clary's footsteps as she followed after us. I looked behind him to see a railing. This is going to hurt. I thrust my sword towards his chest, all the while tackling him. My blade pierced his chest as we tumbled through the air.
"JACE!" I heard a shrill voice scream.
Ugh. Owwww. Yeah… That did hurt.
I got up and stared at the bloody figure below. Serves him right. I pulled the sword from his deceased body. But something strange happened. I watched in alarm as the body began to shimmer, turning into a body that didn't look like Valentine. What is going on?
My thoughts were cut off as I heard grunting and roars emitting from behind me. I heard Clary run up from behind me as I stared at Valentine's prisoners in shock.
"What is this place?" Clary asked as she surveyed the room.
They all look like Downworlders. Wolves. Vamps. Fae. And other unknown stuff too. "Looks like a Downworld prison."
Several of them snarled at us as we continued to stare at them.
Clary walked forwards, commenting in disgust, "More like a zoo."
I shook my head as I looked at these trapped souls, "We need to go. We have to find Lissa before we get to the portal."
For some reason, the Downworlders began banging on their cells and cages more viciously. I turned back towards Clary, only to find Valentine. How many times does he have to be killed before it becomes permanent?
"Your skills may be unparalleled…" he said with a smirk as I was restrained from behind by what-I-assume several other henchmen. I growled at him as he continued towards me, "But your loyalty is sorely lacking." he brought his arm up and injected something in my neck. My eyes began to shut as I heard his last command. "String him up."
I hope Lissa is safe.
Alec Lightwood
There was only one plan I could think of that would help them escape.
Allie once told me that we shared a special bond. Not a bond as close as hers and Jace's, but a close one nevertheless. She told me that when I needed her, all I had to do was call her. Either mentally or verbally, she'd hear both, was what she said. Is that true?
"I know what you're going through, Alexander." Magnus' voice broke my reverie.
No. No one does but her. Oh, Allie. Where are you when I need you?
"No, I… I don't think you do." I stammered out in reply.
"Alec." a voice spoke up from behind us. We spun around to see the missing princess' body begin to materialise in front of us. "Magnus? What's going on?"
"It worked?" I asked in disbelief as I walked towards her.
I stopped just in front of her, wondering if she was corporal. She answered my question by closing the distance and hugging me.
"Oh, Alec. It's so good to see a familiar face. Well, one other than Jace's face. I've missed you" she pulled away to look at Magnus as well, "I've missed all of you."
I held her hand as I pulled her towards the edge of the building. She stood between Magnus and I as she breathed in several breaths of fresh air.
"New York air doesn't smell any different." she looked up at the two of us, "You know, we may still be travelling through New York waters but for some reason, the air didn't smell like New York."
"You're still in New York?" Magnus quickly questioned her.
She nodded her before looking in the distance, "I don't know exactly where we are but I know we're still in or at least near New York." she scoffed in annoyance, "I don't know anything for sure. Somehow, my visions have been cloudy towards anything concerning the boat or its general location. Sometimes I can barely see what's happening outside the boat."
How strange… Hmmm. "And inside the boat?"
She nodded her head as she leant on the railing heavily, "Now that's perfectly clear. I can see what's going on in the boat if I'm actively looking for something. I don't make a habit of looking for things here- I mean back there." she shook her head in disgust, "Too many awful things have happened there." Her posture lightened as she then said, "But I can see Jace. I can always see Jace. Even now if I wanted too…"
Her voice trailed off as she fell into a deep thought.
It was a few moments before she spoke up thoughtfully, "Jace is a part of me." she seemed more relaxed as she talked about her parabatai, "Through this rune," she said as she pointed to the one hidden under her top, resting above her heart. Speaking of her top, is she wearing a man's shirt? I think she is… Never mind. "…We are both physically and emotionally connected. If he dies, a part of me dies, too. It's kinda sad really."
"Why is it sad, little princess?" Magnus asked lightly.
She sighed heavily as she began to clench the railing, "Because he'll never love me like I love him. Even when he tells me he loves me, I feel like he isn't telling the truth…"
Oh, Allie.
"Tell me what I can do," Magnus asked protectively. I guess we're not the only ones that care deeply for the future queen.
"Help me track Jace."
"Aren't you with Jace right now?" I interjected.
She nodded her head but continued with her plan, "I want to use our rune." What? The last time was a disaster. "I just need your magic for the pain," she said, indicating towards Magnus who shook his head in denial.
"I can't help you with this."
She frowned in disappointment "Why not?" she looked to me for my support but all I gave her was a look of confusion so she went on to explain, "If I use my rune to track Jace, nothing can block it. Our bond is closer than anything else. I can find him wherever he or I am. If I track him when I'm with you, I can give you his location, which is where I'll be and then you can send a team to rescue us."
I nodded along with her plan, realising how it could work. But I did think of one flaw.
"The last time you used a rune to track Jace, it almost killed you," I argued. And it almost broke your bond.
"But Jace and I have been repairing our bond. We're closer than ever. It'll work" she pleaded as she gave me the puppy dog look, "I promise. No one will get hurt."
For some reason, I found myself nodding along in agreement.
"Alright." We turned towards Magnus only to find him shaking his head, "Please." we both begged but he continued to disagree, causing me to get angry, "Why can't you just do this one thing?" I shook my head in irritation as I thought about all the sacrifices I had made, "After everything I've done for you."
I began to turn away from him and faced Allie.
"I'll see you soon Allie," I promised.
She nodded sadly, "See you soon Alec." I turned away from her and began to walk away. I heard her voice fade away as she started to return to her body, "Bye Magnus."
Jace Wayland
Punch after punch hit me in the face, chest and abdomen. Anywhere they could reach really. But I wouldn't give them the satisfaction of seeing me in pain.
After a while, it got harder to ignore the barrage of punches aimed at me. Every time I breathed out, blood would pour out of my mouth. My torturer stopped his attack and indicated for someone beside him. That minion threw a bucket of freezing water at me, causing me to finally let out a roar of pain. This seemed to satisfy the man as he continued his assault. I growled at him, causing the other man to throw a bucket of water on me.
"NO!" I heard a voice scream. "STOP!" they ordered. I couldn't see whoever they were but it was definitely a female voice. Or a man with a very feminine voice.
I heard my attacker begin to approach again, causing the voice to scream, "I said ENOUGH!"
This seemed to cause a stand-still. All the supernatural creatures in cages ceased their wailing at the order and my torturers froze. I heard hurried footsteps reach me, causing me to finally open my eyes.
Lissa.
"You're not real" I whispered as she touched my face.
She stroked my face tenderly, causing me to wince, "You're just another illusion he sent to break me."
"Shhh Jay." she whispered soothingly, "It's me. It's actually me."
I tried to move away from her, "Prove it."
She gave me a conflicted look before stepping towards me and leaning forwards. She leant forwards sightly as if to kiss me but she just brushed the hair away from my eyes and whispered, "I'll always trust you above anyone else Jay".
I sighed in relief and leant in towards her touch. It's really her.
"No." a voice murmured behind us.
It was the man who tortured me. He seemed to be shaking himself from his hypnosis. He steadily grew angrier and angrier and began trudging towards us.
"Enough!"
It was probably the only time when I'd consider myself to be relieved to hear that man's voice.
We all turned towards the approaching shadowhunter.
"The little princess found her captured knight after all."
Lissa's arms circled my waist to keep me from swaying as I spat at him, "I killed you twice today. You want to go for another round, huh?"
"You're a born fighter." was his reply. There was once a time when I may have wanted his approval but not today, "I like it." he brought out his stele saying, "Get dress-"
But Lissa pushed his arm away. We turned to her in shock of her actions. She just shook her head and turned her back on Valentine, focusing her attention on me. You see, she hasn't talked to anyone on the ship but me since we've arrived. She'd indicate to things if she wanted something or she'd write it down. Today is probably the only day she's talked to others but me or talked in other people's presence since we've arrived.
"What are you-" he began to say as Lissa laid her hands on my chest.
She shut her eyes and began to whisper rapidly. She spoke so quietly and quickly that I only heard snippets of her muttering, "integro" "confervo"
Her hands began to glow white.
I watched in awe with the others, but some of their looks were tinged in fear. I looked down at the tiring girl as she healed all the wounds that beast inflicted on me.
"How-" I began to ask.
She looked up at me through her eyelashes, with a smirk gracing her lips, "Combat training wasn't the only thing I've been training in when I got my memories back." she rolled her eyes, "Honestly, what did you think I was doing whilst I was at the safe house? Learning how to play chess?"
I chuckled gruffly. I kept my gaze on my father as Lissa completed her healing.
Valentine tried to act as if what he'd seen didn't awe him. He schooled his features saying, "We have a lot to talk about."
I turn my body around as I watched him walk away. I rotated back around, hearing Lissa withdraw her stele. She smiled grimly before drawing the unlocking rune on the chains attached to my wrist that kept me elevated. As soon as the chains released me, Lissa lunged forward to catch me before I fell to the ground. I nuzzled her neck, taking in the scent that was purely Lissa. Red plum and freesia. She moved her arms so they were around my waist, taking most of my body weight.
"Come on, Jay," she said as she began to lead us away. "We gotta get you some clothes." she looked down at herself and wrinkled her nose, "And I gotta change, I don't want to wander around with blood on my shirt."
Valentine himself soon came to find us, retrieving us from our room.
I walked behind him, my arm around Lissa's waist and her's around mine. I won't lie. She was really helping by taking away some of my body weight.
"Mmm." I looked around, noticing he had led us to the kitchen and he had tasted something that was cooking, "Needs pecorino, hmm?" he turned towards us and looked directly at me, "Do you remember your fifth birthday? And I made you spaghetti? Your absolute favourite."
I gave him a deadpan look as Lissa used the hand at my waist to rub it soothingly, "Michael Wayland used to make me spaghetti."
"Just try some." he indicated to the steaming pan.
Is he serious? I asked Lissa mentally as we shared looks, "You really think I want to have a meal with you?"
He sighed looking away from me. I looked to my left, noticing an array of knives. I released my grip on Lissa's waist and grabbed a knife, lunging to swipe at him. He noticed my move, just in time, as he moved out of the way causing me to fling the knife at the wall instead.
"Didn't I teach you not to play with knives?" he scolded lightly as he pushed me back towards the only female in the room. "Look, I know that head of yours is full of questions. So, go ahead. Don't be shy."
I stared at him in silence for several seconds. I opened my mouth to ask but shut it again afterwards. Lissa must have sensed my distress so she grabbed my right hand in her left and spoke my question for me, "Why did you fake your death and pretend to be Michael Wayland?"
He immediately answered back as he gave a nod of approval at our linked hands, "To protect you from my enemies. As Michael Wayland, I knew you'd be safe."
"Safe?" I blurted out.
"Mmm-hmm."
"You made me an orphan. I spent my entire life mourning a father I thought died in front of my eyes." I argued back hotly.
"Well, it made you stronger, didn't it?"
"No," I shook my head vehemently, "Lissa, Aunt Vivienne and Uncle are the reasons why I am who I am today. After your men killed them, the Lightwoods made me strong. They took me in, they trained me. If anyone's my parents, they are."
He seemed adamant in his beliefs, "I had no choice, Jonathan. My enemies were closing in. I sent you to a place where I knew you would be cared for."
I heard Lissa scoff lightly from beside me, "Father of the year."
He shook his head in annoyance, "Look, we had ten years together, and sure…" he inhaled sharply, recollecting his thoughts before continuing, "I may have been hard on you, but… It's because I loved you, son."
"No." I shook my head in denial and clutched Lissa's hand harder, "All you've ever done is lie to me." I pointed my finger at him accusingly as I moved to walk around him, "You told me I never had a mother."
He grabbed Lissa's arm as we walked around him, causing us to halt. I yanked her away from him, shielding her behind my back.
"What did you want me to say?" he asked, ignoring my glare aimed at him, "That I saved you and that your mother deserted you?" I shared a look of confusion with Lissa before looking back at Valentine, "She left you to die in Idris."
"What?" I heard Lissa distantly ask. She didn't want me. My own mother didn't want me.
"Why would she do that?" I asked heartbroken.
"Because you're different. You're special. Look, I know that you have always felt more powerful than everyone else around you." he looked at Lissa carefully before amending, "Maybe not including Alicia here but other than that, you always feel more powerful because you are."
He reached for his stele and drew a rune on his arm. Valentine then latched onto my left and Lissa's right arm, bringing us into a vision.
I watched as a redhead woman slept, must be Jocelyn. My mother. The vision flashed, showing a teal tonic on her bedside table. The vision flashed again to see the tonic being injected into the sleeping mother's womb. As the vision faded, I saw the culprit behind the experimentation on me. Valentine.
I panted heavily as Lissa leant against me for support. "You experimented on me?" I asked in disbelief. Is there no end to his demonic ways?
He didn't seem to realise how monstrous he'd become, "I made you stronger, faster…" I stared at him in horror, "More lethal than any other Shadowhunter."
"Why?" Lissa voiced or the both of us.
"To create the perfect weapon, the ideal marriage of good and evil. A Shadowhunter with pure demon blood."
The petite girl by my side growled, "You monster."
"Oh sweetheart," he cooed, "Imagine how your children will be…"
So this is the reason why we're betrothed? So he can create even more powerful beings for him to control.
I shook in anger, "This was your plan all along."
He ignored my question; instead of turning away to leave the room.
"Gear up," Valentine commanded the two of us. "…and meet me on the deck."
I took Lissa back to our room, only to find outfits laid out for us. Shadowhunting gear.
"Finally!" Lissa cried out happily, rushing towards her outfit. "Clothes" she turned to me, beaming, "Actual clothes!"
I chuckled and walked to the bed and grabbing my own gear.
"That's great Lis." I quickly ran into the bathroom, "Baggsie a shower first!"
"No fair!" I heard her muffled voice complain.
"If you're slow, you get to shower second!" I said with a laugh before opening the door to poke my head through, "I'm gonna miss you wearing my clothes, they looked way better on you than they did on me." I said with a wink, causing her to turn that rosy colour that I love.
"Oh shut up!" she said, throwing a pillow at me, causing me to shut the door whilst laughing my head off.
I took a quick shower since I'd already taken one earlier and changed into my gear before letting Lissa take the bathroom. I was laying down on the bed when I heard a scream from the bathroom. I jumped off the bed and rushed to the door.
"Lissa. Are you okay?" I asked in worry.
She moaned in frustration, "No. I'm not okay."
"What's wrong?"
"Your father, is what is wrong!"
"What? I don't understand. What did he do this time?"
I heard the door unlock, causing me to step back and watch as a very sexy-looking but angry Lissa stepped out.
"This is what he did," she said gesturing to her outfit. I looked at her dumbfounded. "I look like a slut!"
I continued to survey her outfit unfazed.
"I think you look great!" I said slyly.
She growled at me before stalking to the wardrobe and pilfering though it.
"Of course you'd say that you perv!" she said huffily before taking out one of my leather jackets. "I'm wearing this," she said briskly before going to the bed again and sitting down. She began putting on her knee-high boots as I watched her in amusement. Her anger was still simmering on the surface.
"Alright let's go." she ordered before leaving the room.
"Left! Right! Left! Right!" I heard a voice instruct the shadowhunters below as Lissa and I approached my father, once again holding hands and her anger gone. I think.
"Impressive, aren't they? But they still don't have the inherent gifts that you have. You took to a seraph blade the way a baby takes to a bottle." Valentine commented proudly.
I turned to him in anger, "What kind of a father experiments on his son with pure demon blood?"
"A father with perspective." I felt Lissa tug my arm, causing me to turn towards her, she gave me a comforting look as Valentine continued to talk, "We both want the same thing. To save this world from demons."
"The Clave fights demons," Lissa argued.
He looked off into the distance, "The Clave has grown soft… Protecting Downworlders with the Accords. All Downworlders, one day, will give in to their violent tendencies. It's unavoidable. Even a single drop of demon blood running in your veins makes you a threat to humanity."
I continued to look down in shame at the thought about how I was a monster. Lissa continued to argue beside me. I'm glad she got her fire back. "I… I know plenty of Downworlders who play by the rules. They control their urges."
"You're thinking of Lucian Graymark, warlocks like Magnus Bane, and even… Clarissa's and your little vampire friend Simon?" he asked rhetorically. Lissa glared at him, "No matter how good they try to be, Downworlders cannot control their demonic blood forever."
I finally reached the peak of my irritation, "If that blood is so evil, why did you put it in me?"
"To fight fire with fire," he said before walking away.
I followed him with Lissa by my side, to a lower deck. I leant against the railing, considering whether it would be worth jumping in. Lissa grasped my arm, causing me to look down at her. She shook her head violently but didn't voice her thoughts.
As if he could read my thoughts, Valentine said, "I wouldn't jump if I were you."
"Why?" I snarked back, "Because I'm your ultimate weapon?"
A man walking by us was grabbed by the neck by Valentine and forced against the side of the ship. His face began burning off as he met an invisible force field. I jumped back in shock and pulled Lissa further away from him. I flinched as she began to desperately plead for the man's life as he screamed in agony. Valentine soon released him and the man fell to the floor. Dead.
"This warlock is infamous for crimes against mundanes. There's something else I want you to see."
Valentine led us through a portal. We stepped out in front of a Reggie's, a pizza shop I'd seen when I was bored and walked around New York for no real reason.
"We're stopping for pizza?" I asked incredulously as I stopped beside him. Lissa wasn't paying attention, too busy admiring her jewellery/weapons that Valentine had unknowingly given back to her.
"Reggie served the best pie in all of Brooklyn. Note the past tense." he inhaled sharply before continuing, "When Reggie's wife, Maria, turned into a vampire, she slaughtered Reggie and created a den inside."
"What does this have to do with me? Us?" I asked with a roll of my eyes.
He placed his hands on my shoulders, led me away from Lissa slightly and began whispering to me, "You think love will keep you from hurting your family and friends?" He let go of my shoulders but all I did was stare at Lissa as his words began registering, "No matter how hard you fight it, demon blood will make you kill. It starts in a small way. Urges." I turned my gaze back to him, "See, that's why you want Clary, and that is why you always will." I saw Lissa flinch in the distance. How could she still hear us? Why is he saying this? I only just got her trust back. I only just got her back.
I snapped back into attention as I heard a woman scream in the distance. I quickly ran in the direction of Reggie's pizza shop, feeling Lissa run beside me. This is how it should be. How it should have been if we weren't separated all those years ago.
I yanked the door open, allowing the two of us entry. We stepped inside to see rooms cluttered with cobwebs and dirt. We walked side-by-side and surveyed the room carefully, making sure we had our eyes on everything, searching for any sign of movement. We both snapped our attention to a room in the distance as a woman's scream began emitting from that direction. We hurriedly ran in the direction of the screams, leading us to a room filled with screaming people as they had their blood drained from them.
I clenched my fists in anger at the sight of these innocent people.
From the corner of my eye, I watched a Lissa grabbed two long wooden sticks before she handed one to me.
"HEY!" we called out simultaneously.
We gathered the attention of the two vampires closest to us. I stabbed the one closest to us whilst Lis did a run-up before jumping on the other vamp running at us and stabbing him in the heart. I snapped my stick in half whilst Lissa yanked hers out of her vamp. We watched as they began to turn into dust.
"Everyone run," Lissa ordered. "Get out."
"Out, now," I said as I helped one of them up. "Hey, out!" We threw our sticks on the pool table and I asked them, "Hey! Which one of you is Maria?"
The vamps continued to snarl at us as we glared at them solemnly.
"Who's asking?" a woman, who I assume is Maria, asked as she rounded the corner wearing a blood-stained white dress. She began to walk towards us, stalking us as if we were her next prey. More vampires began to emerge from the back of the room, all their faces stained with blood. They snarled at us threateningly but we just stared back at them impassively. When I noticed that there began to be too many of them, I grabbed Lissa's hand before running out of the room, vampires hot on our tail.
As soon as we exited the room, we barred the door shut, using our own bodies to stop them from entering.
"Lissa," I said as I looked down at her hand. She knew I meant her ring; when the jewel was rubbed, the ring would turn into a bow.
She quickly stepped away from the door, causing me to try and brace the door by myself, and rubbed her ring, transforming it into a bow. She stood in the far side of the room, in perfect sight of the door. She nodded at me, to confirm that she was ready. I looked to my side and noticed a pizza peel on the table. I snatched it as I ran away from the door. I spun around with the peel outwards and smacked a vamps head, I felt as an arrow whizzed past my ear, embedding itself in the neck of a vampire, a second arrow soon followed and pierced the same vamp's heart. That vampire began turning to dust as I snapped the peel in half. Another vamp approached me, I smacked her with the flat, wider side of the peel before stabbing the other half of the peel into a vampire approaching me from behind. I felt Lissa approach me and we stood back to back as more vamps entered the room. We worked in sync to despatch of them. Her using her bow and arrows: her bow to smack them away from her and she pulled the string of the bow, allowing an arrow to appear but she didn't release them, instead she used them to stab oncoming vamps near her. I continued to stab vamps with my makeshift stake.
I looked up to see Maria approaching us with a group of vamps behind her. Those vamps ran towards us but Lis spun us around so she fought them head-on. She kicked and punched them away from my path as I stared at the approaching female vamp.
"Pretty strong, even for a Shadowhunter." Maria praised me as Lissa finished off the last of the vamps.
"You're feeding on innocent mundanes." I snarled.
She sighed before licking some of the blood from her fingers, "A girl's gotta eat."
"No Jace!" I heard Lissa warn but I was focused on Maria. I saw Lissa's hand glow with a white light before it was aimed at the window, smashing it into a million pieces. Milliseconds after that, Maria lunged at me, tackling me out of the now shattered window.
Maria got up and was about to run away but I heard Lissa jump out of the window after us. I watched as she ran after the final vamp before jumping and kicking her in the back, causing Maria to end up sprawled on the floor. I joined Lissa's side, my body slightly in front of hers, noticing that her bow was back into its original form leaving her defenceless.
I hand my stake still pointed at her, "You're done." she spun around to face us, "You're done." she was now cornered between me and Lis with Valentine behind her.
She snarled at us before warning, "You can't kill me."
"Watch me," I said, lunging towards her.
"I surrender to the authority of the Clave," she said smugly. I grunted in irritation as she began laughing, "Aw, look at you. You got your stick all ready to go and now you can't use it."
"No," I heard Lissa say from behind me, "you broke the Accords. You killed innocent mundanes." Magnus must have really drilled in the laws during her Princess Lessons. She's been spouting them left and right for some time…
I finished off her sentence, "And now, you're gonna die just like your friends."
"But unlike them, I'm no longer a threat. I know my rights." she continued to say.
"Your rights?" I said incredulously.
"Yeah, my rights. I might have broken the Accords, but I know you won't."
I shook my head, "You don't know anything about me."
"I know you're weak." she turned her head to sniff me, "Mmm. I can smell it. And you'll do whatever the Clave tells you to do." I pressed the stick closer to her chest, to put more distance between us, "Now, get off of me." she commanded as she swiped the stick away.
"Jonathan." Ahhh. The almighty father finally speaks. "Are you going to let her mock you after what she did?" I placed the stick at her neck again, " This thing in front of you…" I began to circle the vamp, Lissa still behind me until we stopped in front of Valentine, "She was once Reggie the pizza guy's sweet and loving wife."
"You leave my husband out of this!" she snarled.
"Whoa. You mean the man you murdered?" Lissa said sarcastically from behind me. "You mean the man you devoured?" Lissa continued to taunt her, "That's what you mean."
Maria glared at the girl behind me as the words began to sink in. The vamp snapped deeply before lunging towards her, I quickly stepped in the way, stabbing the stick into her heart, causing her to turn into dust.
I looked at the place she stood in horror. I just broke the law. What is happening to me? Valentine sighed happily behind me, "Ah, that's my boy."
I felt Lissa step up from behind me, to grab my hand. She began to rub my back soothingly, "It's okay Jay. You only did it to protect me. I shouldn't have provoked her. You know how I get when an injustice occurs."
I was comforted by her words but I soon ignored her in favour of listening as I heard the sound of a crossbow being set from my left. I turned my head to see what was going on.
I heard Lissa gasp in shock, "Mom? You're awake? What are you-" she quickly stood in front of me, as a thought seemed to have occurred to her.
I watched as an arrow began to fly towards my vulnerable parabatai. I grabbed her waist, hoping to drag her to the ground before it was too late, but something else happened. I witnessed as my father jumped in front of the arrow, intended for me, striking him in the shoulder. He collapsed onto the floor as Lissa screamed in horror, her hands quickly flying to her mouth.
I looked at my mother in shock as she began to put a new arrow into the crossbow.
"No!" I heard Clary's voice? scream. Yeah, it was Clary's voice. I watched as she and Simon ran passed us towards Jocelyn.
"Run, Jonathan. They want you dead." Valentine warned from the ground as Lissa and I looked around in confusion.
I made up my mind quickly and reached onto the floor to pick my father up, I helped him to the portal before realising that Lissa wasn't behind us. I turned around to see her eyes had begun to tear as she looked at her now awake mother.
"Mommy," she whispered brokenly, as I used my free hand to grab her waist to drag her into the portal.
"Mom, stop!" I heard Clary yell as we disappeared through the portal.
What a great way to meet your mother for the first time.
