AN: I'm really sorry for the long wait, I've had these chapters saved for ages I just never have the time to post cause I'm on work placement at the moment.
Jace Wayland
"Hey," Lissa cut off her giggles as she cautiously looked around her surroundings like a lunatic, "did you hear that?"
Knowing her instincts were almost as good as mine, I surveyed the room critically as I slowly replied, "Hear what?"
She gave me an incredulous look, probably thinking I was messing around, "That sound just now."
I gave her a look thinking she was the one messing me with, "What sound?"
"I swear by the angel if you're messing with me…"
I shrugged, "I didn't hear anything." I gave her a smug look, "And I have the best senses in the institute so…"
I watched in amusement as she rolled her eyes and relaxed again, "Never mind."
To pull her further from her thoughts, I turned her attention back to the mountain of bags on my decoy bed at Magnus' place. We'd just come back from our shopping trip around the world. I mean officially, we were hunting for my father, Valentine but as you can see we didn't find him. Lissa argued that it would be a waste of a portal and trip if we didn't do anything so we ended up shopping at every city across the globe that we visited.
"Why was it that we portalled to Magnus' and not our place?"
She gave a small huff as she tried to move the flat screen tv we picked out in Japan. I smirked slightly before getting up from my recline position and helping her.
"Thank you…" she responded with a blinding smile before skipping away to another pile that held all of our clothes. "We just needed to touch base quickly with Malec before we head on over and to lose anyone that could have followed us…"
"I mean the way you were portalling everywhere I doubt anyone could have followed us."
"Shush you…" she scolded as she threw a lace dress at me.
Obviously I caught it before I gave it an appraising look, "Ooh very nice, you should model this for me at some point."
She looked up from her flitting, "Hmmmm. Maybe…"
I think I almost snapped my neck with how quickly I turned to look at her, "Really?"
She gave me a long look. What is this girl thinking? Just as she opened her mouth to respond, the whoosh of a portal opening sounded in the lounge area outside.
"Looks like Malec's home…" she whispered to me just as the sound of very loud music verberated through the walls.
"You think they're…" I wiggled my eyebrows at her suggestively, "Hiding their dirty business?"
Her once flirty look dissolved into a fit of giggles, causing me to join her not long after.
"Come on," She danced her way to me and grabbed my hands, "We should head home and set up the TV and decorate with all this stuff we've bought."
"Good idea," I agreed, "Are we still doing the-"
"Of course dear…" she cut me off with a smirk.
With a wave of her hand, a portal opened in the closet door, "Shall we?"
I grabbed as many of the bags as I could whilst Lis used her powers to lift the rest, "We shall."
Just as we stepped through the portal, Lis waved her hand one final time.
Not before leaving a prank, a recording of them giggling and fake moaning.
Alec Lightwood
Just as I leaned in to give Magnus a kiss, the sound of moaning and kissing interrupted us.
Ugh. I'm glad they're together now and errr- relaxing? But do they need to be so bloody loud?
He stepped away from me and towards the sound of our friends, "I haven't had a roommate this brazen since..." He spun around to look at me, "Well, since Casanova and I spent the night in the Doge's Palace."
I hate when he mentions… others. "Casanova?" I grunted out, "I'll talk to Jace. He can't stay here forever." I stepped around him towards the room.
I get that this is a part of the plan but must they be here allthe time?
"No, no." He said, reaching out to stop me from stepping any further, "Nothing a little magic can't fix."
He snapped his fingers and the music turned on, "All good."
My only response was a grin.
"Damn it," I murmured, looking down at the text I had just received on my phone.
I'm gonna have to stop kissing this man for this? Ugh.
"I need to go."
He waved his hand, "Go do your job, Shadowhunter." He gave me a sly grin, "I'm not going anywhere."
I sighed deeply, "All right." I got up with dread covering my face.
Now I have to go interrupt the lovebirds.
As I approached the door to Jace's room the distant sound of giggling and moaning got louder and louder. I don't want to see this. Please let them be dressed. Please let them be dressed.
I knocked on the door, to be polite of course, and of course, was ignored.
Please let them be dressed.
I slowly opened the door, my eyes half-shut.
Please let them be dressed.
"Guys-" I waved my hand around hoping to gain their attention as the incessant moaning continued, "We have a mission…" When they continued, "Guys-" I was unfortunately ignored, "Fuck sake guys-" my patience grew short and I opened my eyes to glare at them.
Please let them be dressed.
"What the fuck?"
Where the fuck are they?
I follow the sound of moaning to the bed, only to see a voice recorder. Who even has one of these anymore?
"Jace Wayland!" I screamed into the room, knowing they'd somehow hear me, "Alicia Graymark!"
Almost instantaneously, the whoosh of a portal opening sounded in the once empty room. One look at my face sent them into a fit of giggles.
"His face!" They giggled to one another.
"You're so red!" Lissa panted out from her hunched position against Jace.
"Why haven't you turned off the recording?" Jace wheezed out from her side.
The sight of my reddening face caused them to further laugh at the situation we were in.
"Stop it."
They ignored me.
"Guys stop… We have orders. Let's go."
All I got was more giggles as Allie raised a finger to stop me from speaking any further. She waved her hand, causing a familiar glow to encompass the walls.
"We can-" she was stopped by a giggle escaping her lips, "we can speak- hehe, freely now."
I gave them a disappointed look as I shut off the stupid moaning device, "Why are you guys being so immature and pulling pranks? This is your solution? Hiding out at…" I paused, not knowing if I should name the place. They nodded knowing what I meant.
"I wouldn't exactly call this hiding," Jace shrugged with a smirk as he wrapped his arm around Allie's waist and pulling her to sit on his lap on the bed. I watched them with hidden fondness as she whacked him and kept grumbling to herself, completely ignoring us, I swear by the angel that you're the bloody end to feminism. God, you're so grabby… Why are you so bloody needy…
I returned my attention to Jace, "We have obligations."
"Obligations," Jace scoffed, I watched as Allie immediately reached for the hand at her waist, and began to rub it soothingly.
"Aldertree wanted Jace gone, Alec," Allie took over with a shrug, "and he's gone."
"Look…" I sighed out, "So you got demoted. So what? You'll work your way back up."
Jace gave out a grunt, "You don't understand."
Although I don't know if that grunt was for what he was saying or because Allie decided to adjust her position on his lap.
Ignore it.
"Then tell me," I asked lightly. "Whatever it is, it can't be that bad." I watched as they shared a look with one another. Jace tightened his grip on Allie and refused to look me in the eye, "So you're just gonna turn your back on us? You both are?" At that, Allie turned her gaze away from me too, "On Isabelle? Clary?"
"I told you I'm not discussing Clary," Jace snapped out. At those words, Allie shifted away from him, rolling off the bed and towards the bookshelf.
What is she doing? I watched as she grabbed a large book, "She's your family. Your sister," before heading back to bed,
"I don't need a reminder," Jace grumbled out as Allie sat beside Jace, against the headboard and not on his lap. He sighed, "You know, you should go. We don't want you getting benched, too."
"This isn't you," I argued, not moving from my spot as Jace kept poking Allie's sides and cheeks to gain her attention.
Allie kept whacking Jace's hands away from her as she took over the conversation, "Look, Alec… we need Jace to keep looking down in the dumps so everyone does think he's worthless- Jace stop or you're gonna be missing a finger in a minute."
"Come on Lis…"
Jace Wayland
I grabbed Lissa's waist, pulling her to my side. She fought me the whole time, trying to wiggle away like a fish out of water.
"I'm sorry Lis, come on… You know what I meant…"
"Hmmm…" she grunted as she realised she couldn't escape my iron grip, instead, she turned her attention to the third wheel of the room, "He's got more time now," I saw Alec cock his head to the side, "With Jace kicked out of the institute, he has spare time to hunt for Valentine with me."
"How did you get out of duties today?" Alec asked, finally unfolding his arms.
I scoffed, "You mean apart from her being everyone's beloved princess and her being in charge?" I smirked as he rolled his eyes at my obvious comment, "Lissa here…" I squeezed her to me, not minding her position against me, with her one hand resting against my chest and the other wrapped around my waist. "Aldertree wants her to stay away from the public at the moment because of her seeing Cleophas yesterday-"
"Which I don't agree with! She's my aunt… She wouldn't hurt me!"
"Yeah well… Valentine's my father-"
"Shut up!"
I smirked proudly, knowing she hated being wrong.
"Anyway, she bargained with Aldertree. As long as no one from the institute sees her, she's got the day off." I shrugged at my brother. "He agreed as you can see."
I could see the uncomfortable look from his face, "Why don't you ask for help?"
"It's not that we don't trust you, Alec," Lissa immediately knowing what he was indicating, "Out of everyone, you're probably the one we trust the most. Please know that." I nodded along, agreeing with her completely. "If we didn't trust you, we wouldn't be explaining this to you now."
I took over, "Everyone has a part in this plan, yours just happen to be this: trusting us and keeping our secrets."
We could finally see the look of acceptance on his face because he turned to walk away but before he could, Lissa stopped him with further words, "You know you have to leave looking madder than that…"
He shrugged, "I'm not good at faking…"
"Plus he's always grumpy anyway, no one would notice-" I joined the conversation but was ignored.
"I'm feeling pretty good knowing you guys trust me so much. I don't get mad that easily-"
"Oooo. I know!" Lissa popped up from her position beside me and skipped to his side, whispering something into his ears. As whatever she said progressed in his brain, the redder his face went.
"What the fu- Jace!" I flinched away from him as he attempted to lunge at me.
"Woah!" I heard Lissa shout as I rolled away from them, when I peeked from my position at the end of the bed, I saw her holding him back, "Alec. Chill. Just think of that when you're meant to be angry at Jace."
"He doesn't actually-?" he trailed off.
She smiled brightly, "Of course not, if he did, I would kill him myself."
What the fuck did she say to him?
"Go, Alec," she ushered him to the door.
Before he left, he turned back one last time, "You guys haven't gotten that far have you?" Hearing this, I turned my gaze to Lissa and immediately blushed. Why is he asking this? Does he know what we were doing last night? "Cause you're living in a house. Together. On your own."
Is this what it's like being embarrassed by your parents?
"We enjoy each other's presence." I stammered out. Enjoy each other's presence? What the fuck dude? You're meant to be the cool one! What happened there?
I watched as Alec nodded slowly before a smirk began to form on his lips, I know I'm gonna hate whatever he says, "You guys are using protection right?"
If someone could blush even harder than the shade of a tomato, I think I did. Lissa, on the other hand, covered her face, "Alec we haven't done- that!"
Alec raises his eyebrow at us. I didn't even look at Lissa knowing she was doing exactly what I was, nodding my head vigorously in agreement. I saw his eyebrow raise even higher if that was possible.
I felt something in me crack as I felt like I had to confess my entire soul to him, "We admit. We're not doing that. But-" I coughed, "We're errr-enjoying ourselves?" I ended on a question looking at my parabatai who nodded back at me, "As friends."
"Friends who really care for each other." Lissa cut in.
Alec nodded slowly back at us, "Right." He smiled, "Enjoy yourselves."
He probably did that for revenge. Git.
Without any further questions, he walked out, probably to go back to the institute.
Not long after he left, Lissa removed the silencing ward she put on our room and we portalled it back to our place, to continue decorating.
"So can we go somewhere?" Lissa's voice sounded out from her laying position on top of the piano I was playing at.
"Where?" I asked as I concentrated on the keys, "Actually no. You're meant to be staying away from the rest of the institute so we shouldn't be out in New York where they can see us."
"Oh please," Please don't be giving me puppy dog eyes. No such luck, I thought as I looked up at her, "We'll stay low-key. I promise."
"Nope."
"We'll go somewhere they wouldn't go. Please…"
Don't look at the puppy dog- Damn it.
"Fine."
"Yes!" She giggled, bouncing her way to our room, probably to get her stuff.
"Why do I always bloody give in?" I grumbled to myself, giving up on the piece I was playing.
"Because you love me!"
I know.
"Yeah. Yeah!" I murmured quietly, "Hurry up before I change my mind!" I raised my voice.
Not too long after, she hurried down the stairs and grabbed my hand on her way towards the stairs.
"Let's go!"
"Where are we going, Lis?" I questioned in amusement at her excitement.
She ignored me, just tightening her grip on my hand as she lead us towards…
The Hunter's Moon.
"Here?" I whispered in slight disgust as she led us through the front doors.
"Yes here." She murmured back with a smile as she sat down at an unoccupied table in the corner of the bar.
I grabbed us a couple of drinks before sitting beside her.
A few drinks in and I couldn't help the flirty comments I was throwing her direction.
"You're so beautiful," I whispered softly into her ear.
Used to my comments by now, her blush wasn't as deep as it was in the past, "Right back at you handsome."
I don't know what it was that made me ask it but I knew I needed to know the answer to it.
"Is what we're doing okay?"
She stared at me for a long time, looking through my eyes right to my soul, before shrugging, "I've never done what we're doing before. But-" she grabbed my head and made sure I was paying attention to what she was going to say next, "Remember our promise to one another."
Before I could even respond, she already started talking.
I do love her drunken rambling. She's so cute.
"Whether we're friends, best friends or lovers, as long as you are always there for me and I'm there for you, everything will be alright."
She cocked her head to the side as a thoughtful look took over her beautiful features, "Didn't think you would be this right about it but you were right in the end."
I raised my eyebrow at her; she leant closer to me loudly whispered "About the lovers' thing."
I chuckled at her drunken state, closing the last bit of distance between us and whispering, "And how am I as a lover?"
I guess liquid courage is definitely a thing for my girl because she turned her face so our lips were practically touching, "You're pretty amazing…"
"Just pretty amazing?" I teased her lightly, leaning forward for a slow, long passionate kiss.
"I don't have anyone to compare you to but you're the best so far," she groaned out as I released her.
I hummed lightly as I gave her a couple of kisses up and down her neck, "Good." I gave her another kiss on the lips, "It better stay that way." I turned my attention to the spot just behind her ear, "Because only I get to enjoy this beautiful body. Only I will appreciate you the way you need. Only I know your body and how your eyes turn a darker blue when I…" I tugged her hair, making an involuntary moan escape her lips.
"Jay- not here…" she hoarsely whispered back.
"We should head back then." I hinted as I gave her another kiss.
"I wanna drink some more Jay-" she stopped as she caught sight of something in the distance, "Is that… Simon?"
She elbowed my stomach to catch my attention, not that it wasn't on her before, how is this girl so easily distracted?
She grabbed her stele out and runed enhanced hearing runes on our arms, allowing us to hear their conversation.
"Bloody Mary?" I heard Simon ask.
"Minus the Mary," Maia responded. "Eternally underaged, remember?"
"Ah. Yes. Forever in need of a fake ID," I heard him bitterly respond. "Thank you for this."
"Bottoms up."
"Who is she?" Lissa asked in confusion.
I forgot she never met Maia that dreadful day.
"That's Maia. Werewolf." Lissa rolled her eyes when I mentioned her status. "Part of your uncle's pack."
"You don't need to mention that she's Downworlder. That's unnecessary Jay."
When I went to respond, she shushed me in favour of watching her friend's failure of an attempt at flirting.
"Mmm-hmm. Um, you got a little..." We watched Maia indicate to something on the vamp's face.
"Oh. I'm sorry. It's..." I think he was reaching for a napkin but both Lis and I winced in sympathy as he knocked everything in his path over. "I'm a spiller. I should have...
"It's fine. I got it," the wolf tried to interrupt his rambling but he just kept going on and on and on and-
"…Since I was a kid, orange juice, milk..."
"I got it. Hey. Hey."
God, does this kid ever shut up?
"...cherries..."
He finally shut up when she leant over and wiped his upper lip, "I got it."
He did the vampire equivalent to a bashful blush, "Thank you."
"Oh, Simon…" Lis whispered in despair as we watched the trainwreck in front of us.
Before I could change my mind, I got up and started heading in his direction.
"Jay-?"
I whistled as I approached, "Smooth." I remarked sarcastically as I took my place on his left, Lissa following me and trapping him between us.
He seemed to be talking to some god of his as he looked towards the ceiling instead of us as he said, "Is this the only bar in Brooklyn?
The wolf returned to our place at the bar, "Wow, you must have a death wish."
"Isn't it time we kissed and made up?" I snarked back with a smirk.
The lovely wolf just continued her threats, "Or I could just rip your face off."
Lissa reached over Simon to whack my arm. She sure does love doing that. "Behave!"
I grabbed her hand before it could leave me, and tugged her in my direction, "Only for you."
She let out her adorable giggle before giving me a kiss on the cheek. I would have preferred a kiss on the lips but I'll take what I can get.
"I'm Alicia," she introduced herself to the wolf, holding her hand out.
Said wolf shook her hand, "Maia. You're the almost dead girl in Jace's arms the other day."
"That's- err- me, yes."
I growled at the reminder, "Four tequila shots."
"Please," Lissa added on to the wolf before turning to me, "Some of those better be for me."
I nodded at her, "Of course."
"Make that eight shots," I said to the wolf, only to get another kiss, only this time on the lips.
When I went to deepen the kiss, we got interrupted by the vampire that I honestly forgot I had just been insulting, "Since when have you guys been a thing?"
Lissa shrugged before patting my shoulder, letting me take the lead as she said, "We're not-" she shot a quick look at me, "I'm gonna go toilet. If I'm gone for more than five minutes, realistically I have either passed out or been kidnapped again."
"Yes, dear," I smirked at her as she wobbled on her way to the bathroom.
"How long?" the vamp continued to ask.
I shrugged, "Since the ship." I mean technically that's true.
"You're being serious about this right. You're not gonna hurt her?" he innocently asked me.
I finally turned my full attention to him, pausing for a very long time, "I'd never- I wouldn't-"
Happy with the sincerity of my voice, he cut me off from the embarrassment of spilling my guts to him, "Guess some girls are immune to your charms, huh?"
I hummed, "You know, there's always that one rare exception, yeah."
"Hmm," he responded as he began to rip apart the napkin in his hands, "Why are you here?"
I smirked at him, knowing it would get on his nerves, "I'm on a date."
He gave me an incredulous look, "You date?" He then began to rapidly shake his head, "Wait. She just said you guys aren't dating."
I shifted uncomfortably, knowing he was right and that she and I needed to talk soon into labelling what we have, "Yeah. We aren't." I gave him a fleeting look as I shrugged, "But who says we can't go out on our day off?"
"You guys have day offs?"
I gave him a glare, "We're not slaves!"
This time, he gave me a look, I relented and lightly shrugged, "No but with Lissa's position, she can do whatever she likes."
"And you took her to the bar as a date?" Why so judgy vampy?
I shook my head, "Nah. She wanted to go out 'cause apparently she hadn't gone out for drinks in a while so… she dragged me here and… here we are."
I looked to my left at the wolf who was previously occupying my seat, before chuckling, "You know, I didn't think hot-tempered wolves were your type, Simon."
"You know my name?" was his first response. Before I could respond he continued to ramble on, "Maia? No, we're just, um..."
At his pause, I completed his sentence for him, "Friends." I shrugged, "Shocking." If Lissa was here she would probably hit me for what I'm about to say, "It's the Simon Lewis sweet spot. Just ask Clary."
From the corner of my eye, I saw him square his shoulders as he got a bit riled up, "What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means..." I spun my head to look him in the eye, "...you're the safe choice, Simon." Poor guy doesn't even realise it yet. "You're non-threatening, you're easy to talk to, and you never seal the deal. Am I right?"
"No," he immediately denied as Maia began placing my shots on the bar.
"Thank you."
Perfect timing because here comes Lissa.
Maia bared her teeth at me, "I spit in one."
"Ooh." I tsked her, "Delicious. Don't tease me." I pushed four shots towards the tiny girl by my side, "Here, Lis."
"Thank you," she hummed and she kissed my cheek in gratitude.
"Sure took your time didn't you? I thought you were kidnapped and I'd have to leave and rescue you," I winked at her teasingly.
"Oooo my knight in shining leather," giving me a wink in return as she downed a shot. She's so hot…
"Maybe, but..." the vamp spoke up from my side. I sighed at his interruption. This guy is such a cock block. "What does it matter to you?
I saw Lis' look of disbelief as I responded, "I am willing to share some of my wisdom. I'm feeling charitable." To be honest, I'm surprised by my words too.
All I got was a scoff in return, "Like I need your know, I'm perfectly capable of making a good impression on my own, thank you.
"Oh." I gotta admit, I'm surprised he rejected me. No one ever rejects me. Maybe he is alright… "I like that confidence." I chuckled, patting his back and reaching to drink a shot before grabbing my final three in one hand and Lissa's hand in the other, "Good luck."
"See ya Si," Lissa said as I began to lead us back to our table in the back.
"Thanks," he murmured in response.
Not two seconds after we sat back down, the vamp decided to occupy the seats opposite us, "Wait."
I sighed, "Dude you could have said that before we sat back down in the secluded corner where I plan to feel my girlf- girl up." I could feel the heat resonating from Lissa's cheeks as she hid herself in my chest, despite this, I could feel the smile she hid from me, on my chest. That feeling alone made me happier and all-too-willing to help this geek.
He cringed back but didn't back down, "Will you be my Obi-Wan?"
What the fuck? What in the angel is that?
I stared at him blankly, he still refused to look me in the eye, "Who?"
My response caused him to turn to me incredulously, "Obi-Wan. From Star Wars?" I continued to stare at him blankly, wondering if this was one of the things Lissa said we would watch at some point, "It's a movie. It's..."
I raised a finger, shutting him up immediately, "Yeah. Don't make me regret this."
Simon led us back to the bar, probably to prevent me from doing anything to Lis in front of him. We followed him back to the same seats. Simon and I took the only two seats at the bar, causing Lis to pout heavily at me.
"If you were a gentleman you'd give up your seat for me," she tried to convince me.
I gave her a wink, "I'm not a gentleman."
Her head tilted back to release one of the first real laughs I have heard in a while. She jumped on to the bar in front of me, twisting around to quickly ask the wolf, "Is it alright if I do this?"
The wolf promptly replied her agreement as she rushed by, "Sure."
Lissa smiled before turning back to us, settling in her position so that I was sat between her legs.
"I don't get how you can get people to like you so quickly," I gazed at her in awe as I drank down another shot.
She shrugged lightly as she took another shot, "This is why we're parabatai. I'm the nice innocent approachable one that everyone loves whilst you're the handsome arrogant unapproachable one that everyone wants to punch." She patted my cheek before giving me a quick kiss, "We make the best team."
Still uncomfortable with our closeness his laugh was a bit frigid but he still agreed to her statement, as he nodded along, "That's true."
Before they could even attempt and take more jabs at me, I turned the focus on our resident vamp, "Why do you think women are so attracted to me?" I gestured to my beautiful angelic features. "Apart from the obvious."
"Okay, um..." He sighed, rubbing the space between his eyebrows, "You literally slay demons. All I have is fangs."
"The fangs don't matter," I dismissed, "Look, you gotta stop feeling sorry for yourself, and figure out what's..." I sighed waving a hand in his direction, "Lacking."
"Lacking?" He responded quickly in a panicked tone, "I'm lacking?"
"Are you kidding?" I asked him incredulously, "You know what, let's, uh... Let's start at the top."
"Be nice…" Lis whispered lightly as she drank another shot but nevertheless, leaving us to our uh- bonding.
"Okay," he agreed. I quickly pointed at the mop on his head, "What?"
"Your hair," I clarified for him as he looked up.
"What's wrong with my hair?" he naively asked.
I stared at him for a while, not really understanding how he didn't see what I saw, "You know, we'll circle back to that. Why don't you just start by telling me, uh, what you do when you approach a girl."
"Okay. What do you mean?" Do I need to explain every single detail to this boy?
I pointed at myself, finally allowing him to understand what I was indicating, "You mean, like, act it out?"
I sighed before nodding, "Yeah."
"Here?" This is going to be a long day.
"Dazzle me." Is he always this annoying?
"Okay, um..." he looked around, self-conscious of anyone that could be looking at him at this moment. Let me tell you, there wasn't anyone looking in his direction. I gave him an odd look as Lissa let out a giggle when we saw him wiggle around before turning to us with a large wimpy smile, "I'm Lewis." He snapped his fingers at me, "Simon Lewis."
"No." I frowned, cutting him off. What was that? Who taught him that? That was disgusting- "Don't do that."
"Do what?" he objected with the most confused look I've ever seen. And that's saying something.
"Any of that," waving my hand in his direction
"This is my James Bond impression," he complained lightly.
I shook my head incredulously as Lis chimed in, "It's nothing like James Bond."
I took over, "The face and the snap…" I shuddered, "No."
He sighed but decided not to give up, "Okay, so what am I supposed to do? Like..." he leant against his elbow on the bar and clenched his jaw, looking away from me and into the rest of the bar.
"What is that?" What is going through this boy's head?
"It's me being you," I heard Lissa choke on her shot and her immediate string of giggles followed after that was cut up by a gaggle of coughs, "Dark. Mysterious."
I gave him an incredulous look as I grabbed Lissa by the thighs and pulled her onto my lap so I could give her a solid whack in the back to help her little cough, "It looks like you're low on fibre."
That immediately set her off on another laughing fit.
"Okay, I'll try again. Um..." the guy adjusted himself, even more, leaning further back onto his elbow, his shoulders were hunched as he gave me the freaky smile.
"Perfect," my voice dripping with sarcasm, "If you're a serial killer." The grin on his face immediately dropped, "Look..." I sighed, looking at him with slight, and I mean slight, sympathy, "You gotta learn to play hard to get, okay? No girl wants a guy with his cards already on the table." My voice dropped despite knowing he could still hear me, "No girl wants a guy who can't shut up."
He laughed, "I can shut up."
I gave him a long look, causing him to stutter out his next words, "So I... I have to change my hair, stop talking, stop smiling. Essentially, just..." he stopped as the realisation came to him, "...stop being myself."
I smiled at him, finally, he gets it, "Exactly."
Awww. The poor guy looks like he's about to cry, "It's never gonna work."
"You wanna bet?" I ask him teasingly. Maybe this guy isn't that bad after all.
"Oh, dazzle me, please." At least sarcasm isn't that bad.
I look up at the beauty above me, an eyebrow raised, You mind if I-?
She shrugged, waving her hand, Go ahead.
I got up from my seated position and placed Lis in my vacated seat. I grabbed my stele and quickly drew the rune to change my appearance into Simon's, "What are you doing?" with his frantic voice shrilly asking questions in the background, "Jace. What are you... Lily-Allie what is he doing?"
I messed with my/his hair before heading to these girls at the bar behind us that I caught eyeing the vamp earlier. A little flirting here, a little flirting there and I've got a new phone number for him.
"That's how it's done," I proudly claimed as I removed my glamour.
Lissa rolled her eyes, "I think Simon should be himself." She gave him a good look before proclaiming, "He has a certain charm."
I shared a quick look of disbelief with Simon/the vamp before looking back at her in shock.
She just shrugged, "Good luck, Simon."
Without even letting me give my usual final insult, she dragged me back to our table.
"So, you think Simon's cute," I asked her curiously, wrapping my arm around her shoulder, she reached up to grab ahold of my hand.
"Yeah…" she shrugged, "He is cute."
I gave her a small pout, "Cuter than me?"
"Hmmmm."
Before I let her fully respond, I started giving her kisses in her sweet spot again, "Ohhhh… Of course not…" She turned her head, I leant forward and gave her a long kiss, "Wow."
"Good," I smirked, leaning towards her again for another one, "I haven't lost my touch."
"Jace- Ahhh… You're gonna have to wait," her breath hitched, "Until we get home."
I gave her a pout, "Aw…"
Before I could even so much as make a complaint, Luke, I know! Of all people, why Luke, appeared at our bloody table.
"Luke!" I grinned at her happiness as she jumped up to give him a hug, "I'm sorry for not coming to see you but I had a vision of aunt Cleophas being around-"
"It's fine," Luke smiled softly as she stepped away from him and backwards, straight into my lap. I wrapped my arm around her waist and she immediately cuddled herself towards me, making Luke growl aggressively at me.
This is the worst time to have a boner. Stop dude.
"Jace," he growled my name aggressively before doing a 180 as he carried on, "Lissa… We gotta go."
"Oh, let me guess. Alec sent you?" I scoffed at him before turning back to my gorgeous date, "Tell him I'm off duty."
Lis got yanked off my lap when I leant in for another kiss, Damn it! "Stop your flirting." I rolled my eyes at Lissa, only to jerk back into reality by his next words, "It's Clary. She's in trouble."
The both of us shared a look before jumping up and heading out of the bar.
"Shotgun," we chorused as we caught sight of Luke's beat-up car.
I turned to her incredulously, "I said it first!"
She shook her head at me, "No, I did!"
"I did!"
"No, I did!"
"No, I did!"
"Woah!" Luke called out from beside the car, "Neither of you are getting shotgun! You're both in the back-"
"What!" we chorused.
"Get in!" he snapped at us. After a quick look with Lissa, I immediately followed his orders and got in.
Just as we strapped in and Luke started the car, Lissa clutched her head, headache maybe?
"Ahhhh!"
"What in the world?" Luke wondered aloud as he looked back at us with a look of disapproval.
"There's a voice!" Lissa cried out, clutching her head as she hunched over in her seat, "They need help!"
I shared a look of confusion with Luke, is she going coo coo?
"Ughhhh!"
I just ordered Luke, "Drive," before turning my attention back on my parabatai.
"What is that sound? He's in pain…"
Just as we started driving down the street, Lissa waved her hand causing a portal to appear in front of the car. I guess Luke didn't expect that because he ended up driving straight through, I guess we just cut our journey short by however many minutes.
Luke rushed out the car and started heading in the direction Clary's scent was coming from. I followed after him once I helped the stumbling Lissa towards her fleeing uncle.
"Cleo, you hurt her," we heard Luke from somewhere in front of us, "I'll drop you where you stand."
"Wait, no!" the redhead cried out, jumping in front of the criminal.
"Clary, get out of the way!" I warned her as Lis and I reached them.
She ignored me and turned her beseeching eyes on her father figure, "Luke, don't! We need her."
Lissa suddenly reached out to her uncle and latched onto his arms, causing him to drop his hold on his gun, "It's the truth, Luke," I caught her as she collapsed from the pain once again, "Ahhhhh!"
"Bonum illud."
"Lis!" I shouted trying to regain her attention, "LIS!"
"Nos servabit te."
"You are her parabatai, right?" I heard Cleophas ask. When I hastily nodded she continued, "Put your hands on my niece's head," I immediately did as she said, "It should calm the voice down," just as she said that, I could hear the voice the girls' were talking about.
"Can you hear his voice too, sweetie?" Cleophas asked the girl I helped stand up properly.
Lissa only nodded her head in agreement, "He's in pain." I flinched at a particularly loud scream, "So much pain." She looked off into the distance, "He wants to be free." She zoned out completely, "Ithuriel… Ithuriel…"
"Who's name is she saying?" I heard Clary ask as Lis continued to speak quietly to the angel, "Ithuriel. We're coming."
"She's talking to the Angel," the ex-iron sister shrugged, "Ithuriel I assume. We need to go."
Clary and I stumbled after Lissa as she led the way to the voice in our heads.
"If Valentine needs lightning to activate the Sword, he probably put Ithuriel up on the rooftop." Clary reason as we made our way to the roof, (I assume at least).
I decided to play devil's advocate, and put forward the idea, "Cleophas could have been lying, Clary."
My parabatai decided to argue for her aunt, "She's not. Not about this."
"How do you know?" Clary asked curiously.
"I just know," she reassured us as she burst through the door, "Trust me."
When did she get her bow and arrows out?
On the roof was the angel, Ithuriel who was being guarded by six other shadowhunters. Lissa didn't even wait for us before shooting an arrow at the hunter closest to the angel. She changed her weapon back into jewellery before whipping her seraph blade out. She was already leaping into battle towards the angel as my own blade glowed at the touch of my angelic grace.
I focussed on the two that tag teamed me. I kept Lissa in my peripheral vision as she raised her glowing hands, the angel's cuts and bruises disapearing not long after.
"Lil! Watch out!" I heard Clary shout out from somewhere behind me.
I knocked out one of my guys before quickly checking up on my parabatai. She was whooping ass of course. She knocked her guy towards me just as I knocked my other guy out.
"We have to hurry!" Clary yelled over the crashing of thunder above us. She and I grabbed our steles and started runing the chains to let Ithuriel free.
"Nothing's working," I panted out after trying to cut the chains free with my seraph blade.
Lissa's glowing hands hand disappeared and was firmly latched onto the angel's head. I assume she was communicating with him as she continued to heal him.
"Why can't we break the chain?" Clary screamed.
"I don't know," I shook my head, looking at the chains intensely, "Valentine must have used a warlock, some kind of dark magic."
Just as I said that, the angel opened his mouth and a pained scream emitted from him.
I watched Clary lean towards Lissa and the angel, "What's happening? What are you doing?" I questioned her.
Lissa seemed to ignore what we were doing in favour of completing her treatment.
"He's communicating with me," the girl proclaimed as she started to write a new rune on the chains.
"He's..." why though?
With a snap of his wrists, the angel was free of the chains, his glowing wings unfurling from behind him. He reached up towards Lissa's hands and pulled her to his front. I rushed forward as her eyes glowed white when Ithuriel placed his hands on her head.
Some sort of forcefield blocked me from stepping any further.
Instead, Lissa slowly spun around before reaching out her own hands to us. Immediately trusting her, I grabbed the hand closest to me.
I couldn't help the gasp that escaped me as a vision took over what I was seeing:
A sword.
No.
The Mortal Sword crashed down from the heavens.
A demon hand reaching out towards the sword.
Runes appearing up the length of the ancient blade.
The sword and the demon disappearing in a puff of dust and ashes.
"What was that?" I heard Clary ask as I blinked myself back to the present when the vision ended.
When I finally came back to reality, I caught sight of Lissa being given a hug by the angel.
What in the-
Ithuriel released her with a sad smile. Why is grandpa looking so sad all of a sudden? He's free… I watched as he placed his hand on her head one final time, making her freeze in her place. Tears soon started to stream down her face.
When he freed her, she bowed her head.
Feeling like we should do the same, Clary and I also bowed after her.
Ithuriel gave us all a smile before bowing to our future queen.
I shared a shocked glance with Clary as the angel began to lift himself up into the sky. Lissa just ignored our look as tears continued to fall down her pristine face.
What did she see?
