Chapter 5: Carrie arrived to Miss Desjardin's home

(At Westover Doctor's Hospital…)

While in the ambulance, Carrie had not left her mother, Maragret for one second, nor taken her injured of her for a microsecond, though she was still unconscious, until they were told to wait outside until she'd been examined and awakened. Once there, the doctors who rushed Maragret in and examined her, were Sue's father: Edward Snell, who were informed of what had happened to Maragret, and rushed straight into the Radiation Room, to see what kind of damage may have been done to her from the ghost revenge gone wrong, they even had to take a sample of Maragret's blood for testing… also reluctantly, Edward had had to ring Carrie to inform her of what had happened, though Edward had also had suspicions of Carrie…

"Hello, I'm Dr. Eleanor Snell, what's your name, honey?" Eleanor asked in concern.

"Carrie White." Carrie replied.

"Carrie, are you okay?" Edward asked in concern.

"I'm fine." Carrie replied.

"What happened to her?" Eleanor asked in concern.

"I… I do not have any family here… Can you call Miss Rita Desjardin?" Carrie replied nervously.

"Rita Desjardin. How do you know this person Carrie?" Edward asked.

"You know her." Carrie replied.

"Yeah, Eleanor know Rita." Edward replied.

"Mrs. Snell?" Carrie asked in concern.

"That's right." Edward replied.

"She's my school gym teacher." Carrie replied, still in a shy tone, before Eleanor left to find Rita's details and call her…

"It's okay, honey. You are in the waiting room. And my wife came here." Edward replied.

"Sure. Thank you, Dr. Snell." Carrie replied.

Edward with Carrie going into the waiting room.

(Sometime later…)

Carrie was sitting in the waiting room, waiting to hear any news about her mother, just as the nurse came in, before both sitting down next to her…

But before Carrie could give her answer, Miss Desjardin came out to inform her…

After Miss Desjardin was called from the Westover Doctor's Hospital, informing them Carrie was there, Miss Desjardin wasted no time and drove down to the hospital, where Carrie was waiting for room, as she pulled up…

"Honey, what happened?" The nurse asked in concern.

"There… There's… There's something really wrong with… I mean the voice…" Carrie replied nervously.

"Voice?" The nurse asked in confusion… "Honey… are you hearing a voice or something in the ghost?"

"Yes…" Carrie replied nervously, almost about to cry…

After Miss Desjardin was called from the Westover Doctor's Hospital, informing them Carrie was there, Miss Desjardin wasted no time and drove down to the hospital, where Carrie was waiting for room, as she pulled up…

The other nurse then took Miss Desjardin to Carrie, where she was waiting for room…

"Oh God Carrie!" Miss Desjardin called, as she grabbed and hugged Carrie, as Carrie cried into her. "Thanks for calling me, what happened to her?"

"Carrie called us, telling us that her mother had been brutally injured." The nurse replied.

"Oh my god! What kind of person would do something like that?" Miss Desjardin gasped while stroking Carrie's hair.

"Carrie called the ambulance. We believe from Carrie's description of the suspect, it was the voice." The nurse replied.

"Voice? Wait a minute, the ghost isn't real, the ghost in Chamberlain, and why would the ghost come here?" Miss Desjardin asked in concern.

"I'm … I'm hearing a voice in my mother… I also seem to have… a ghost coming out of my mother's body…" Carrie hesitantly replied, not sure Miss Desjardin would believe her, or think…

"Carrie, we know what happened to you, what you girls did to you in the gym lockers was wrong… but it's done now, you can't blame yourself for everything that Chris & her friends do to Carrie… Besides, you can't blame yourself for everything Chris does…" Miss Desjardin replied, trying to keep Carrie calm.

"But what can I do Miss Desajrdin? No matter how many times it happens, nothing changes… what can I do to make things right for me? For everyone even?" Carrie said, almost about to cry…

"Hey, I know how you feel, but I do have an idea... why don't you take Carrie to Prom, that is if she feels up to it…" Miss Desjardin suggested, as Carrie looked at each other, but couldn't deny that their feelings for her mother, knowing of some past times they'd had caring feelings for her…

"I want to go to prom?" Carrie asked in concern.

"Good." Miss Desajrdin replied.

But before Carrie could give her answer, Sue's mother: Eleanor Snell, came out to inform Rita on Margaret…

"Hi Carrie, Hi Rita." Eleanor said to the spy girl and gym teacher…

"Oh, Hi Eleanor." Miss Desjardin replied, as she turned to Eleanor.

"Is Carrie okay?" Eleanor asked in concern.

"She's fine." Miss Desjardin replied.

"Good. Carrie, are you okay?" Eleanor asked in concern.

"I'm fine, so, Mrs. Snell." Carrie replied.

"Right." Eleanor replied.

"Mrs. Snell… Is… Is my mother okay? Is she alright?" Carrie asked with urgent worry.

"Don't worry Carrie, she's okay, we're just bringing her out now." Eleanor replied, as they saw Edward and another doctor bring Maragert out on a hospital bed, before taking her into the next room, where visitors were allowed… "Do you both want to see her sweetheart?"

"Mrs. Snell, there's something… unusual happening to the voice…" Carrie tried to explain to Dr. Snell.

"Okay when did this all start Carrie?" Eleanor asked calmly in concern…

"I was just taking my shower after gym class… but then, this… Telekinesis like things appeared underneath the girl… then it latched on to invisibility… before it sank into I through my skin…" Carrie nervously described what she could remember… before she was mocked by Chris and the Ultras…

"Did you see anything Rita?" Eleanor asked in concern.

"No, But Carrie came running towards Chris and the others, the girls were screaming in fright, saying something had got her, and it was making her bleed to death… I think she was having her period when it all happened… but we all made fun of it… Sue doesn't throw tampons at her… I did stop before Chris and everyone else stopped and screaming… but I'm just as guilty as they all are…" Miss Desjardin explained with guilt…

"Telekinesis destroyed Chris's phone." Eleanor replied.

"Yes." Miss Desjardin replied.

"You sure?" Eleanor asked in concern.

"Yeah." Miss Desjardin replied.

"We'll discuss that later Carrie, we think we need to give your mother an MRI scan, maybe that will help us see if there's anything unusual with your mother's body from inside." Eleanor said, knowing despite what Carrie had done, she was still a nice person, much nicer than her mother, Margaret…

"Thank you, Mrs. Snell." Carrie replied.

"My pleasure." Eleanor replied.

(A few minutes later…)

Margaret had changed into a hospital gown, and was now lying inside an MRI scanner tube, Eleanor, and her husband, Edward, were at the controls for the scanner, while Carrie and Miss Desjardin were waiting outside, back in the waiting reception…

"Dr. Snell, how is my mother?" Carrie asked in concern.

"She is fine." Edward replied.

"Is she dead?" Carrie asked in concern.

"No, not yet. Your mother is still alive." Edward replied.

"Thank God. Thank you." Carrie replied.

"No problem." Edward replied.

"Carrie, come with me. We are going home." Miss Desjardin replied.

"Okay. Thank you." Carrie replied.

"It's okay." Eleanor replied.

"You're welcome." Edward replied.

"You called me, okay. Thank you." Miss Desjardin replied, as she and Carrie were escorted out of the hospital…

"Sure." Eleanor replied.

(Later that night, at Miss Desjardin's home…)

Miss Desjardin was comforting Carrie, it was bad enough Carrie was treated badly by nearly everyone at school, but then her mother getting injured by the ghost, from another part of the USA, felt enough to put her sanity over the edge…

"How are you feeling Carrie?" Miss Desjardin asked her student, who was still in shock, but curious and confused…

"Miss Desjardin… I know I should not be asking you this… But you know the ghost?" Carrie asked nervously.

"Carrie, I don't think now is a good time to be asking about who is hitting your mother, I understand you're in shock…" Miss Desjardin said to keep Carrie calm, but Carrie needed to know… "Ok… Eleanor Snell and I were young, I drowned at Chamberlain Junior High School in 1977, I was only 10 years old… The school counsellors had neglected him, we watching the ghosts when they should have been… the following years later, those school counsellors, along with several others, were then all screamed on numerous occasions to reopen the ghosts, monsters, and the others…"

"Ghosts?" Carrie asked in worry.

"That's right." Miss Desjardin, trying not to frighten Carrie…

"Oh God…" Carrie squeaked with worry… "I don't know if I'm gonna be able to sleep tonight…"

"I understand Carrie, if you have any ghosts, just come and get me, I'll look after you, I promise." Miss Desjardin said to comfort Carrie again. "I called Principal Morton."

"Okay." Carrie replied.

The advertisement then gave an address and contact details. Miss Desjardin scribbled them down in a notebook. She then picked up a phone and called Principal Morton, the head educator at Ewen High School.

"Hello?" Principal Morton grunted by way of answering the phone.

"Henry. I'm coming in tomorrow. I'm using one of these days." Miss Desjardin declared, in a tone that brooked no dissent.

"Is everything okay?" Principal Morton wondered.

"No. One of our students was arrested and charged with injury last night. They have no guardian, so I'm going to apply to be their guardian for the duration of the proceedings. I'm also going to the hospital." Miss Desjardin stated.

"My God…who? Who is it?" Principal Morton stammered.

"Carrie White. She stabbed her mother to hunt. She says she was beating her and locking her in a closet! Poor thing. She probably thought there was no way out." Came the reply. A stunned silence stretched out over the phone line. Eventually, Principal Morton began to speak again.

"Maybe you should take one of those days, Rita. Because you just said that Carrie White, who as recently as a fortnight ago was scared of her own shadow, could think of a plan to pick up a knife, hunt her own mother in cold blood, and then abscond from Chamberlain." Principal Morton scoffed.

"Don't believe me?" Miss Desjardin asked in concern, coldly.

"Sweet Jesus…this is going to be a ghost…" Principal Morton gasped in shock.

"I know. Tell you what, Henry. You handle the media, and I'll handle Carrie who's sitting in a cell right now frightened out of her mind. Okay?" Miss Desjardin snapped, tersely.

"Yes. You do that, Rita. I'll ring in a substitute for your classes." Principal Morton agreed.

"See you tomorrow, Carrie and I are going to Ewen High School." Miss Desjardin replied.

"Good. We understand, see tomorrow, okay?" Principal Morton asked in concern.

"Okay, bye, Henry." Miss Desjardin replied.

"Bye, Rita." Principal Morton replied, before hanging up. Once the call was terminated, Miss Desjardin sat down at the kitchen table and let out a shaky breath. It wasn't until now that she realised the enormity of the task she was about to take on. Carrie's freedom – and perhaps life – had just been placed on her shoulders. Miss Desajrdin was determined to show her that there was someone out there who cared about her and who was willing to fight for her.

(Later…)

Carrie was asleep in Miss Desjardin's spare bedroom… But as Carrie slept…

"Carrie, going to bed. Tomorrow at school, okay." Miss Desajrdin replied.

"Okay." Carrie replied.

Miss Desajrdin reached and switched off her bedside light, settled down under the covers and pulled Carrie a little closer to her, allowing her to rest her head against her right shoulder.

"Good night, Carrie." Miss Desajrdin replied.

"Good night, Miss Desjardin." Carrie whispered back quietly. And with that, they both fell into a deep, appreciative sleep at once, exhausted after their unexpected evening together.
