A Blue Angel Born From Love

Chapter 20: Birth of Their Blue Angel

-In the Present-

"I wish I could have known what kind of story your mom told everyone," Poppy hoped as she listened.

"If it had action in it, it should be starred by a hero, kind of like yours truly," Guy Diamond boasted.

Both Branch and Poppy rolled their eyes, knowing how prideful their friend could be, but he means well. "Sure, Guy Diamond. There's definitely not a star like you."

"Thank you," Guy replied. "Hey, what's that supposed to mean?"

"Never mind, Guy. Now, Branch, what happened then?" Poppy asked.

"Right after the party, they had the sleepover, and mom told the story. Honestly, I don't know much about everything that happened that night," Branch admitted. "But everything else continued on as if nothing happened. The last few months have been very productive. During the autumn season, trolls had been busy with their harvests, leaf raking, and having various festivals to celebrate the colorful season. Wood and the other adults had also been busy helping others preparing for the winter, collecting supplies, and storing food, while Primrose grows more and more pregnant."

"With Branch! That's you, Branch! Heh-heh-heh," Guy Diamond laughed.

"Guy!"

"What? It's the truth. Live with it," Guy Diamond shrugged.

"Okay, moving on. After fall, winter came and it was a wonderful winter with barely any problems. Snow began to fall, kids playing in the snow, and on coldest days, the trolls spent indoors keeping each other warm and drinking some hot cocoa. Winter solstice, then Trollmas, and New Hair's Eve...many holidays were celebrated that early winter and Mom and Dad had enjoyed every single one of them with all their loved ones. And it was late January, that the best thing had arrived for Wood and Primrose. The gift that was beyond compare."

Poppy gasped slightly. "You mean..."

Branch nodded with a smile. "Yes. It was time."

-Back in the Past-

When the next morning came the next day, as decided, Primrose told everyone the truth behind the story. Like Wood, they were all surprised the moment she demonstrated her powers again. The only ones who weren't as shocked as the others were Rosiepuff and Joy.

Rosiepuff knew that there was something special about Primrose, but didn't bother to pry knowing how it didn't changed Primrose's character. She loved Primrose like her daughter and was blessed just to have her in her family, with or without these gifts.

Joy has been best friends with Primrose since they were kids and she knew of her gifts but decided to keep it to herself for Primrose's sake. In fact, Primrose once saved Joy from falling off a cliff by using her vine magic, revealing her gifts to her.

Now that everyone knows her secret, they decided to keep it to themselves until Primrose is ready to reveal them to the whole village, with the exception of King Peppy whom Joy will tell once she's home with him. Knowing how understanding Peppy is, there's no worry for Primrose or anyone. Primrose felt a huge relief coming to her, grateful to have such dear friends to consider her family.

The months that followed after the baby shower flew by very quickly and we find the village under a mild blanket of sparkly, glistening snow. The old year came and went and the new year so far has been quiet and peaceful. The Troll Tree may have lost it green leaves, but its branches were filled with special items that has made the tree more lively even in the cold weather. There were shiny icicles that reflected by the morning sunrise, deep snow bundles, and not to mention the colorful lights the trolls hung around them and their pods for winter celebrations.

Winter may be cold, but like the other seasons, it brings its joyful share of fun and holidays. While the adults shoveled the extra snow from their homes and prepare the fire in the fireplaces, the youths spend their time out in the snow. They have snowball fights, sled down the hills, ice skate on frozen ponds, and even compete in some snowy Olympics and contests. And when the sun goes down, they drop their winter garments, snuggle themselves in their warm blankets and hugs, and drink delicious hot chocolate with marshmallows inside. Even so, some winters can last longer than others, making the season quite tiring sometimes. But spring will always come no matter how late it gets.

On this beautiful early morning, inside a specific violet pod, Wood opened his eyes, waking up from a good night's sleep, but his morning wake up call originated from Primrose moaning, wriggling in his arms. Sitting up a little from the bed, he looked over his tired yet beautiful looking wife. She was curled up in the blankets, a pained frown on her face, clutching her swollen stomach. She's already nine months pregnant with his child and lately, she's been waking up from the baby kicking her or just from the discomfort.

Hoping to ease her, Wood just cuddled her and kissed her cheek and forehead. "You alright, my love?" He asked.

"Define 'alright'," mumbled Primrose.

Wood chuckled and kissed her forehead again, stroking her very large belly. "Oh, my poor babies," said Wood.

"Oh, shut up, you handsome, baby making grass stain," said Primrose. "This is all your fault. I haven't had a good night sleep in the last few months because of you."

"No, no, no. I'm only half guilty. The other half is on you when you agreed to initiate our 'wild reunion'," he joked.

"Well, you distracted me! Your dreamy figure was hypnotizing, with or without clothes."

"It's a gift," he shrugged playfully.

"And a curse," she remarked.

"Aw, did I ever tell you how beautiful you are when you're grumpy?"

"Yeah, which will turn to gorgeous when my grumpy becomes furious!" She glared.

"Ah, be still, my beating heart."

Primrose tried to be angry but just laughed, reaching up to stroke his face, only for Wood to take her hand and kiss it. She didn't mean any of it, of course. She was just put in a bad mood because of her hormones and discomfort which Wood would never blame her for it. After all, she's giving him something he always wanted. A new member to add to their beautiful, growing family.

"I'm sorry. You know this pregnancy has made me cranky lately. I don't mean the bad things I've said about or towards you. Well, most of them anyway," Primrose softly said to him.

"Hey, it's okay. I know. It's the toughest job for a woman, but the most rewarding in the end," Wood replied, gently reaching her belly, rubbing small circles over it. Primrose gently rests her hand over his to constantly feel their baby kick around.

"Was it like this for Rosiepuff?" Primrose suddenly asked.

"I don't recall much," said Wood. "I know that she was eagerly cooking and knitting. I know that her cravings were off the charts that Dad had to get more food, even during the late nights. Actually, she was surprised I didn't get a ravenous appetite growing up, but my sweet tooth still remains especially when sneaking in for some cookies. Probably inherited my dad's strong figure and metabolism."

Primrose chuckled. "My dad told me that when Mom was pregnant, she felt sick at first but the rest were magical, like living in a fairy tale. I truly was a miracle to behold when I was born."

"Do you miss your parents?" Wood wondered.

"Always."

"I'm sorry. I don't know why I mentioned them," Wood apologized, not wanting to make her feel bad.

"It's okay. You can ask me anything, you know that, right?" Primrose assured him, stroking his cheek.

"Yeah…"

Wood kissed her cheek and kept stroking her belly, hoping to give her a little comfort. It's what little he could do. Primrose had really been through a lot during this pregnancy: morning sickness, bed resting, mood swings, heck, she managed to miraculously survive Trollstice while carrying Branch. But at least their son was healthy and growing right. It wouldn't be long until they get to hold their little angel in their warm embrace, but heaven knows when will that day comes.

"I think... it might be tonight," Primrose suddenly spoke.

Wood's eyes shot open and he sat up fully, suddenly more awake then he had ever been in his entire life.

"Are you alright?" He asked, suddenly concerned. "Do you feel any contractions? Or has your water broken?"

"No, it's just a feeling. You know?" Primrose said. "I just feel like it's going to be soon. I sure hope so because as much as I love our son, I want this progress to end now."

"Right, right. O f course," Wood agreed, only more on the thought of finally bringing their little one into their world. "I wish there was something I could do to help you," he said as he rose up to stretch.

"If you really want to help, put on some rubber gloves, reach on up there, and start pulling," Primrose answered.

"I know you're joking, but I've seen and handled tough situations. I'll do it...or get a professional," Wood chuckled.

"I'll take either one. Whichever would get this done faster."

"Okay," said Wood. "Listen, I know that you went through the bed rest already, but if you're willing to stay a little longer in bed, I'll bring our breakfasts in bed. It's the least I could do for you two."

"As much as I want to get out of bed, I can't say no to a breakfast in bed," Primrose admitted. "Okay, Wood. I'll stay a little longer."

"Great. And as a bonus, how about we spend the rest of our day under our special tree? We haven't been there in a while and some peace and quiet to ourselves might be good for all of us," Wood added.

"Are you sure about that, Wood? At my current state, I don't know if it's a good idea. Maybe not today, at least," Primrose said insecurely. With the baby's due date around the corner, she would prefer being near her home or a doctor's pod just in case. Yet, her husband's invitation sounds very tempting, especially with his charm at work.

"Oh, come on, Prim. It's just for today. We could watch the sunset and enjoy the quiet time we have together before we welcome our newborn. I'll be by your side for anything you need. Please?"

Gazing upon his innocent, pleading face with those big, luminous green eyes, Primrose knew that she couldn't refuse such an offer from her love. She parked her elbow on the bed, resting her cheek on her palm with a knowing smile. "You just won't quit, do you?" Wood bounced his eyebrows to expressed his determination. She softly sighed with a small chuckle mixed to it. "Oh, alright. But we should pack some necessities, just in case."

"Done and done," he declared as he lifted some packed bags and food baskets.

Primrose was surprised by this. It was as if Wood knew she would accept his proposal and prepared themselves for it. "How did you-"

"Well, I didn't know if you would say yes, but knowing you, I went ahead of myself," Wood said, blushing shyly. Primrose smiled at his cute form. "Now, I'll get breakfast and when we're done, we'll rest and then be on our way."

Once Wood left to get their morning meal, Primrose made herself comfortable and patted her belly. "Oh, Branch, we're both so lucky to have Wood in our lives. He's just so perfect in every way. A loyal troll, a wonderful husband, a magnificent father, and humble chef as a bonus. I can't wait to see you two get acquainted once you're born, my son. I love you, my angel. We both eternally do."

After they've finished breakfast, Primrose slowly got herself ready due to her heavy belly. Luckily, Wood was a patient troll and willing to help her in every need, no matter how small. Once she was done and ready to go, the soon-to-be parents left their pod and strolled through the village. They sported winter clothes once they left their pod and even though it wasn't snowing, the temperature can still be low even on bright sunny days. Wood wore a thick brown coat with a green scarf, red mittens, and earmuffs while Primrose had a hooded purple coat with mittens and snow boots.

As they walked, Wood made sure that he matched Primrose's pace so that she may not be left behind. With the baby near its due date, it can be challenging to walk even if it's just across the living room. But slow and steadily, they arrived at their favorite willow tree, which was covered with ice and snow.

They climbed the snowy hill and sat under it. Despite the lack of flowing branches, the snow does provide some cover and the blanket of snow glistened throughout the day. Wood prepared the area for Primrose, spreading a warm blanket on the ground for her to sit, placing their supplies near them, and even created a small campfire to keep themselves warm.

They spent the entire day under the tree, sharing wonderful stories of their lives and thought of what their future life may bring, especially once their baby is here. Soon the day went on and the sun had set for the day. The sky turned dark, a blanket of stars spread throughout the sky, and the moon shone brightly as ever. It was getting a little colder, but the trolls were warm and cozy thanks to their campfire, blankets, hot cocoa, and snuggling.

Wood and Primrose enjoyed their closeness and the thought of them raising their little one just made the smiles on their faces even bigger than ever. Wood glanced down to his wife and marveled at her beauty. The locket he proposed her with dangling from her neck just reminds himself how fortunate he was since he first laid eyes on her. One minute, he was starting to get to know her and the next thing he knows, he's married to her and about to be a father. Just the thought of that is enough to forget all the misfortunes in life.

Primrose sipped from her delicious, warm hot cocoa as she snuggled closer to Wood to share his body heat. "I wish every day could be like this."

"Be careful what you wish for. You might just get it," he teased, pulling her closer and kissing her softly. His kisses always comforted her, even in the toughest times.

He gazed up into the sky and judging the beautiful scenery, he stood up and went through his stuff. He then appeared with a record player and placed it on a stone. He put the needle in place and soon, the whole area was filled with enchanting music.

Primrose was confused yet the music was magical and it gives her the urge to dance, but how could she in her current state? She saw Wood coming to her and stretched out his hand in a gentlemanly manner.

"Primrose, my love, would you like to dance?"

She giggled. "I wish I could, but I don't know if I can," she replied. Her hand on her swollen belly simply gave Wood the answer why. "I can barely walk as it is."

He grinned and gently helped her onto her feet. "Well, I'm sure one more waltz wouldn't hurt. And you did say that anything can happen at any time. How about one last dance before the baby arrives?" He could tell that she looked unsure about this. "I'll be here to support you and we can stop whenever you want," he said reassuringly.

Primrose smiled at him. Dancing was one of their favorite things to do together.

"Shall we?" Wood insisted. His wife nodded and took his hand. Luckily for her, there's plenty of room for them to dance here. Wood placed an arm around her waist while she placed her hand on his shoulder. And soon, they commenced.

Wood made sure to dance gently so that Primrose was steady on her feet. They danced gracefully to the rhythm. She sighed with content, leaning her head against Wood's heart. He responded by holding her close. As they continued, he took the time to think that he was very lucky to have Primrose as his wife and wondered what would have happened if he'd never met her. But he shook that thought away. She was here with him and that's all that matters, especially when she's carrying their pride and joy inside.

"Not much longer now," he whispered as he felt his baby's kicking as they danced closely.

Soon enough, the music began to dim. Even Primrose was feeling tired as she yawned. Wood pressed his lips on her forehead, happy that they shared this moment together.

"Thank you," Wood whispered.

"No, thank you. For not only this, but fore everything you've done and will do for us," Primrose said.

Both trolls then felt a chilly wind being blown towards them. They gazed up to the sky and saw the moon being covered by some dark clouds. A gentle snow fall descended onto the tree and the area.

"That wind is a sign that it's gonna be a cold night tonight," Wood indicated.

"Yeah, I think you're right," Primrose agreed. "It's a good thing we came here early."

Wood nodded, pulling Primrose closer as they watched the snow fall. He believed that they would overcome anything as long as they were together.

Suddenly, Primrose's eyes widen and felt a strong discomfort in her abdomen. Her belly was hurting, really bad. She hissed with pain, gripping her stomach. "Oh my..." she said nearly a whisper.

Wood heard her groans and tended to her. "You okay? You look kinda pale."

Despite her pain, she could only face him with a smile. "Never better."

He took a moment for the information to sink in before his eyes widened and gasped. "You mean..." Primrose nodded, the only answer he needed to know. "Are you sure?" She nodded frantically. "Any contractions yet?"

"A few," she winced. "But nothing serious yet... There still might be time left, but I would prefer that we leave now."

"Okay." Wood didn't need to hear another word. He packed all the stuff quickly while trying to keep himself in control. "Finally. It's finally happening." Once he's done, he joined his wife. "I'm ready. Now let's get you to the doctor."

"I-I don't think I'll be able to walk back home," Primrose said.

"Don't worry. I'll carry you."

"How? You're carrying all of this stuff!"

"With my hands, yes. But..." He stretched his hair and gently wrapped her waist and lifted her up. He held her tightly yet gently enough like a strapped chair as they began to make their way back home. "Hang on."

Primrose winced but managed to answer, "I'll try. Just be careful. You carrying a precious cargo who's delivering a precious cargo!"

"I know one thing: Mom's gonna love this, especially since she's the one who packed the baby bag for us. I'll never hear the end of this when this is over, especially the countless 'I told you sos'."

The journey was becoming difficult. As if hearing his wife's constant groans from her contractions wasn't stressful enough, the snow they walked on was deep and the weather wasn't helping either. Wood was surprisingly strong for a troll which was good to carry both his pregnant wife and the stuff they've brought.

"Be strong, Prim. We'll get there as soon as we can," he assured her. He hated hearing her in pain and not being able to comfort her now.

"I'll try. And it's alright, Wood," Primrose smiled, trying to comfort him when she could sense the anxiousness in his voice. "This is good. It means we get to finally see our beloved Branch. That will be wonderful, won't it?"

"Yeah," he agreed, managing to smile for her. "It will."

Primrose felt another contraction and grabbed her belly. She resisted to scream, knowing it'll make Wood panic. She wants him to stay focused and calm. Instead, she looked up and saw the snow flakes falling. "Is it me or is the snow fall getting heavier?"

"Relax. Winter nights snow like this all the time. I'm sure that's all we'll face tonight," Wood assured her confidently. But then, a sudden blizzard appeared out of nowhere, covering the area with nothing but wind and ice. "Oh, me and my big mouth! We have to deal with this sudden force of nature!"

"So am I!" Primrose yelled for she experienced another pain.

"Oh, this isn't good!"

-Back in the present-

"The blizzard started blowing a typhoon of ice and snow like crazy! It was majestic, blinding, and hazardous. All of it at the same time," Branch described the event with dramatic flare. "Sorta like you, Diamond."

"You flattered me, good sir," Guy Diamond said proudly.

"Enough of that! Then what happened? Then what happened!?" Poppy eagerly pleaded.

"Okay, okay."

-Back to the past-

The sky was blanketed by white, freezing snow. The air echoed with howling winds. And the frozen ground kept piling up with deep ice, blocking the troll's path to home! Snow and hail came flying down around the duo as they try to avoid the cold blizzard.

Wood didn't know where to go now. If he keeps going like this, they might end up being lost or worse. And if they stop, they'll freeze to death and Prim needs medical attention now! The cold and Prim's cries of pain were beginning to stress him out.

"Wood!" Primrose cried out so that he may hear her through the blizzard. "We have to find shelter!"

"But Prim, we have to keep moving forward! If we stop now, we might be too late for any of us!"

"I am not letting you go any further, Wood! You might get us lost or worse. What if we end up falling down a cliff?" Primrose argued. "Think of our son!"

Wood looked ahead. He could barely make out the shrubbery and trees through this blizzard and the darkness of the night just makes this journey extremely dangerous for anyone to go through. He knows that she's right. This is no time to argue. Primrose might wait for a while but the baby will not.

"Okay. You're right. But where do we go?"

A pattern of soft crushing sounds were heard. They sounded like footprints touching the snowy ground. They looked ahead and saw a shadowy figure with horns. Wood braced himself to defend Primrose. The shadowy figure came closer and revealed to be a swag stag and its offspring. Primrose sighed in relief that it wasn't anything too dangerous. She grunted once more from the pain.

The adult stag noticed the discomfort from the pregnant troll and glanced at Wood. He was making a huge effort to carry not only his stuff, but also his heavily pregnant mate to safety. The animal slowly lower his head, his antlers facing Wood. It grunted to Wood. Wood wondered what it wanted. He looked at his luggage and then to the antlers. "You want to help?" The animal snorted in agreement. Wood then passed the luggage and the bags to the antlers and hanged them like a coat hanger. The animal easily lifted himself and the stuff up and motioned ahead. The fawn trotted to Wood and nibbled at his coat and pulled.

"I think they want us to follow them," Primrose realized.

"Should we?" Wood wondered cautiously.

"If they insist. But the sooner we're out of this, the better."

"Alright," Wood agreed. He then followed the two animals through the icy wind. It was getting hard to see but Wood still followed their glimpses and kept moving forward while making sure Primrose was warm and secured.

They've walked for a while until they came across a rocky wall covered with a curtain of plants. The adult stag lifted the plants, revealing an opening to a cave. The two trolls walked inside with the animals following them.

Once inside, they were amazed by the luminescent lights coming from some mushrooms and walls along the tunnel. They've reached the heart of the cave where they could see a small spring with fresh, clear water, moss growing from some rocks and ground, and some plants growing around. But what amazed the trolls most was that the cave was full of various critters whom took refuge here to get away from the cold. There were some birds, swampkins, swag stags, fireflies, adult cuddlepups, and a mother cuddlepup with her pups, all sharing spaces without conflict.

The animals looked up to see the new arrivals. Instead of feeling scared or cautious, they understood that, like them, the trolls just needed to escape the freezing weather. Some of them even noticed Primrose and realized that she's in labor. The swampkins gathered some moss in formed them together into a bed for her to lay on. Wood placed her on it and began to gather some firewood. Once he had enough, he tried to kindle a flame. Primrose knew that they needed warmth, so despite her pain, she managed to make a small flame on her palm and threw it into the wood, where it slowly began to grow into a big flame.

"Thanks, Primrose. But I think you should save some strength," Wood suggested.

"I know. But I thought I could help a little. I hate to see you do all the work," she said.

"Yeah. Same here. I wish I could help you with your situation, but, you know, I'm a guy, so...the only thing I could do for you is to provide comfort and moral support." He then took out a blanket and covered Primrose. Later, he took a bowl and went to the spring, taking some water, which was surprisingly warm. He then soaked a small cloth and rubbed it across her face to remove her sweat. "How ya doing?"

"So far, so good," she grunted, grabbing his hand when she felt another contraction.

Wood felt the pain, but she didn't dare complain, knowing her pain is ten times greater. "Okay, you're doing fine. Remember, breathe, breath. Just like in class!" He repeated making breathing sounds to soothe her, but it wasn't helping her.

"Grr, dear, would you just shut up, shut up, shut up?!" She yelled. He flinched at her outcry. Even some of the animals became startled when they heard her. "I'm sorry. You know how this pain makes me grouchy."

"Grouchy? Naw. But I dare say that I hope this weather clears up soon, so I can get help. If not, then we'll just have to deliver the baby right here, in this lovely spot!"

"Uuuaaagghh!" Primrose yelled.

Wood was getting more nervous every time he hears her screams, but seeing the weather outside, he has no choice but to stay and prepare for the delivery that will come.

Several hours passed and Primrose's contractions grew more frequent and painful. The trolls didn't exactly know how long they've been inside the cave or what time is it, but Wood hardly paid attention to anything else. All his focus was on Primrose. He acted cool and calm. Yet, as the contractions progressed and the pain worsened, even he could not hide his worry. Honestly, he was scared, mainly because he had no idea what was going to happen. He didn't know if the baby would be okay or if Primrose could handle the birth. But it didn't matter how he felt. There was no turning back now. The baby was coming, whether they were ready or not.

"Breathe, honey, breathe," coaxed Wood. "You're doing so well."

"I don't think it's supposed to hurt this much," said Primrose with gritted teeth. "What if something goes wrong?"

"Don't think like that. Whatever happens, Prim, I'm here. I'm with you. I won't let anything bad happen to you or to our baby."

"I know you will. I'm just glad I'm in here with you, in this warm, beautiful, and quiet place despite all the critters in here."

"Yeah, surprisingly quiet," Wood wondered. "Quiet?" He realized that even though the animals were with them, there was one noise he hadn't heard in a while.

He looked out the opening and saw no ice or snow. When he pushed the plants away and gasped when he realized that the blizzard had disappeared. The night was clear as the dark clouds flew away, revealing the bright moon that lit the sky. The area was covered with glistening snow, making it look like everything's made of glitter.

"Look! The blizzard's gone, Primrose!" Wood happily exclaimed. "We can go back home!"

Primrose smiled but then grabbed her belly in pain, letting out a sharp yell. Wood quickly ran to her side, comforting her. "I...I don't think I can move. The pain's too much!" She gasped.

"Shhh, I know, I know," said Wood. "It's going to be okay. It's almost over. Almost over."

Primrose held his hand tight and looked up to his face. "You have to go alone."

"What? No way! That's out of the question! You need me here!" He argued.

"But we need a doctor more! I hate to think of what might happen to him!" She cried in distress. "Please, Wood."

Wood thought for a moment. "But I can't just leave you here alone, not when our baby's arriving any minute."

Suddenly, the mother cuddlepup came towards Primrose and laid behind her, letting her rest her body in her fur for support and warmth. A couple of swampkins cuddled besides the troll to provide extra warmth, and some swag stags offered their antlers to Primrose for her to grab on in case she needed to push.

"I guess I'm not going through this alone," Primrose felt relieved by the animals' help. "The sooner you go, the better it might be for all of us. If not for me, then for our little angel," she grunted. "Please!"

Wood could see the pleads in her eyes and knew that if she was willing, he would have to fulfill her wishes with no arguments. "Okay. I'll go. But I'm gonna need some help."

He then put on his winter garments and went outside, searching for something until he found it. He ripped out a long, thin piece of bark from a tree and dropped it in front of him. From his supplies, he grabbed some rope. His needed help was provided when he asked for some assistance from the adult cuddlepups which they agreed. He tied the rope around them and they formed a sled team. He even asked some fireflies to light the way. Once he's done, Wood came towards Primrose and held her hand.

"I won't be long. I hate leaving you like this. Are you sure about this?" He asked. She replied with a sure nod. "If that is what you wish." He kissed her cheek and forehead with plenty of love. "I love you. I'll be back as soon as I can."

"I know you will. As soon as you return, I'll probably have our baby to present to you. Be careful on your way, my love," she said with a tired smile.

Wood nodded and then proceeds to kiss her belly. "Daddy can't wait to see you, my son. Try to avoid giving your mother such a hard time. She's strong and beautiful and we're both lucky guys just to have her with us." He then gazed upon the surrounding animals. "This is my loving mate and I trust her in your hands, I mean, paws. So, take care of her for me, please."

The animals gave out reassuring growls, barks, and noises in agreement.

Knowing that she's safe with them, he went on his way, but not before looking back at her one last time. How he hated leaving her, but he had to find a doctor for both their sake. He managed to get on his sled and held on to the rope.

"Are you ready?" Wood asked to the cuddlepups in front. They all barked in unison. "Then let's go! Hike!" Then his journey began.

With the fireflies leading the way and the pups traveling in a bursting speed, Wood just might make it back in no time, hopefully. Just the thought of his wife and child is enough to give him the strength and determination to go home. He thought of how she's waiting for him and the fact that she's delivering the baby possibly right now. What will happen to both of them if he never returned? He shook that thought away, not wanting to even think of such a thing.

The moon still remained in the sky, even though it wasn't at its peak. Could be already after midnight or later since they left the village. Wood hoped that his mother wouldn't be too worried sick. Just then, Wood felt joy when he caught sight of the troll village in his sight. He urged the team to pick up the speed, hoping to reach there in time.

Despite the darkness and deep snow, Wood finally arrived to the village and hurried to his pod. He banged the door rapidly, hoping that the pod wasn't empty. The lights inside lit up and the door opened, revealing a tired Rosiepuff in a warm robe. When she saw Wood, she gasped and in a burst of joy grabs him in a bear-crushing hug.

"WOOD! Oh my dear! When the blizzard stormed in, I've been worried sick! Are you alright? What happened and where's Primrose?" Rosiepuff asked worriedly.

"I'm sorry, Mom. We had to take shelter away from the snow. I'm okay and so is she. But she's having the baby right now! We have to get the doctor now!" Wood exclaimed.

"What?! And you left her alone?!" She frantically said.

"Not completely. Some critters are keeping her company and she's safe. But we must hurry!"

"Then what are we standing around here for? Let's go! Let me grab my coat," Rosiepuff hurried inside.

"You're coming?"

"Well, I'm not gonna miss my grandchild's arrival now, am I?"

Wood just smiled. He's not only lucky to have Primrose in his life, but also lucky to have a mother like Rosiepuff. Despite her age, she's as strong and active as any young troll. As soon as she came out, they both headed towards the doctor's pod to get her.

Meanwhile, back in the spring cave, Primrose breathed rhythmically. A firefly soaked some moss and dabbed her forehead while the mother cuddlepup gently nuzzled her cheek.

"Oh, Wood," she softly panted until she cringed from the pain of labor. "I think it's time."

She sat up, gasping for breath and grabbed the swag stags' antlers. Primrose slowed her breathing and pushed for ten seconds. At least, that's what she learned from her books. Though now, she is here alone without help. She was frightened, not for herself, but for her baby. No, no, she wasn't alone. These wonderful creatures were with her. And Wood will come back. He always will for her. Primrose pushed again and this carried on for a while.

"Aaaaaaauuugghh! Ah! Aaaah! Ah... ah... ah! Aaaaaaah!"

Her screams echoed through the cave but the animals didn't scurried away. They remained in place, not leaving her side.

Despite all the pain she's baring, there's nothing that could compare to a mother's strength and love.

"Hike, hike!" Wood commanded the canines as they pulled the sled in a hurry. Behind Wood was Rosiepuff and Doctor Plum holding on so they wouldn't fall off. Despite the added passengers, the dogs were still strong and fast enough to keep going.

Rosiepuff understood his worries. Any soon to be father would tremble at the thought of their wife going through labor on their own. It's a normal situation but even the bravest trolls need a mother's advice.

"Wood, I know you're nervous. I am too. It's a lot of work she's going through, but it'll all be rewarded. All childbirths are. A new life is something to celebrate whether they're royal or not," Rosiepuff explained.

"Mom, was Dad nervous when I was born?" He asked.

"Well, yes. It was sort of different. I mean he even tried to burst into the room when you were about to be born. Gave the doctor a hard time," she chuckled.

"It's true. That's what he told me when I was his apprentice," Doctor Plum mentioned.

Wood slightly smiled but he couldn't help feeling unprepared and helpless. "But...what if I'm not a good father? What if the baby wouldn't like me?"

Rosipeuff hugged her son. "Wood, you're a wonderful troll. Why else would Primrose marry you? Any moment now, you're gonna be a father and me, a grandmother. You only need one thing in order to raise the baby."

"What?"

"Love," she surely replied. "The baby will love you as much as you love Primrose."

He felt better after hearing those helpful words. If his love for his family is strong and pure, then he'll have no worries. "Thanks, Mom. I do love Primrose, but I also love you, too. And I know I'll love my child. I already do."

Soon enough, they reached the cave. The entrance was covered with plants yet they still see the light of the campfire piercing through it. Wood got off and thanked the cuddlepups for their journey. He released them so that they may go inside.

"This way. Primrose is inside here!"

But as he touched the plants, a new sound echoed from the cave. They all suddenly stopped. It was the sound they all been waiting for: a baby's cry. But it sounded quite melodically, like an angel's.

Both Rosiepuff and Wood gasped, filled with joy and happiness, as the three trolls entered the cave slowly. Once inside, they were amazed by the most beautiful sight they've behold. All animals were gathered around the teal troll and fell silent once they heard the baby's cry. And there was Primrose, so exhausted yet strong as she cherished the beautiful miracle in her arms that she brought into the world.

Primrose kissed her newborn once he's stopped crying. She turned her head and when she saw Wood, she smiled. "Hello, Wood." He just stood there, speechless, and gulped nervously. "Well, come and meet our son. I promise he won't bite. At least not yet."

With a little nudge from Rosiepuff, Wood came towards her. Some of the animals moved away for the new father to join his mate. Once there, he sat beside her, tears in his eyes threatening to fall, and nuzzled their heads together. He then looked down at the newborn in her hands and his heart soared. The baby boy has his mother's gleaming teal skin and bright, beautiful, sky blue eyes.

"Oh, Primrose, he's...he's so beautiful...just like you."

The baby yawned before his father booped his nose gently. It tickled the baby and let out a cute sneeze, causing his cobalt blue hair, that he inherited his father, to pop out.

Primrose smiled adorably at her husband. "And you," she said.

Wood nodded and both trolls shared a loving kiss together without caring of the audience before them.

Doctor Plum came in to check on both the mother and baby. "The baby sounds healthy and his colors are bright. Truly a sign of good health. And Primrose has no signs of health problems. Both of them are and will be fine."

"Thank you, Doctor," Rosiepuff appreciatively said and clamped her hands together once she saw her grandchild. "Oh, he's gorgeous."

"You mean it, Mom?" Wood smiled.

"Look at him. A mixture of both your beautiful colors. It shows that you two are truly meant to be," she joyfully said.

"He sure is one special and beautiful baby," Wood caressed his cheek. "Our little baby."

"A miracle baby... Branch," Primrose agreed.

"Branch? That's his name?" Doctor Plum asked. The parents nodded. "Branch. I dare say that he's a good-looking boy."

"He is a handsome boy, isn't he? With the voice of an angel's," Rosiepuff happily said. "I think it's a wonderful name for him. Branch."

Wood smiled, silently shedding his tears as he touched his son's hand. Branch held his father's finger tightly as he cooed. "Hey. Hi. Hi, Branch. My name's Wood and she is Primrose. But to you, I'm your dad, so you may call me Dad. And this is your lovely mom. She is Mommy. We love you forever, Branch."

"Yes, we do," Primrose then spoke to her newborn son. "Hello, my love. You are finally in the world now. The world is beautiful and you are the most beautiful creature there, my angel. You truly are, just like your Dad. We will protect you every time and we will love you unconditionally, no matter what color you are. We love you forever and always more, never less."

Rosiepuff and Doctor Plum decided to leave the new parents share a moment together alone.

Wood then spread his arm and wrapped around Primrose's shoulders, leaning on her as they glanced their son dozing off. "You did a great job, Primrose. I admit that I was scared for both of you. I'm sorry for leaving you to do all the work."

"Don't be. It was my wish and thankfully, we're both fine. I'm just so thankful that he's healthy," she softly said while watching her baby.

"Yeah, healthy and beautiful just like his mother," Wood agreed.

"I hope he has a gentle heart," Primrose hoped.

"And a good mind to go with it," Wood finished for her.

"What will he grow up to be?"

"Whatever he wants, he can be anything, because for him the sky's the limit."

"All I want is for him to be happy. That's my wish for Branch." She saw her baby stirred softly in her arms before falling asleep.

"Then it's up to us to make it come true. Together, we'll take care of him until he grows up. This I promise," Wood told his mate who smiled at him.

"I love that idea."

The new parents surely had an eventful night that sleep was probably out of the question. It was the start of their new parenthood which is a bonus since it was around 5 in the morning when Branch was born. Still, a winter day will arrive late in this cold season. Boy, will everyone be surprised when they see the new member of the village, especially their friends and King Peppy.

Little Branch sure is lucky to have such great parents such as Wood and Primrose, and even a grandmother like Rosiepuff. But he's not the only one. Wood and Primrose are also lucky for they have a beautiful baby. A blue angel born from love named Branch.
