Chapter 1: A New Mission
Somewhere in Harajuku, a pair of shop owners from the city's local jewelry shop opened up a wooden box to reveal a large strand of turquoise beads. They had a pearly luster that was luminous like the full moon on a clear night.
"What is that?" his wife questioned, as her brown eyes gazed into the beads.
"This must be a new necklace that we haven't seen before," he answered her. "I found it lying around somewhere while I was on break. We should definitely sell it in hopes of earning a profit."
"Are you sure? They could be priceless!" she assumed.
"I'm sure," he answered her with a big grin. "I can guarantee that this will be the store's rarest item that will earn us big bucks. This time, we will be able to afford a vacation built for two."
But as they were ready to close up for the night, little did they know that a horde of cursed spirits slowly emerged from behind them, and the leader was a colossal special grade Finger Bearer. They chuckled sinisterly as a deep purple aura shrouded them, ready to prey upon their new targets…
At Tokyo Jujutsu High School, Yuji Itadori and his friends Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki had returned after a day of shopping. They had recently completed their previous mission, which was to exorcise the curse of the Yasohachi Bridge. However, their duties as jujutsu sorcerers were far from over, as they had received a call from their mentor, Satoru Gojo, regarding a new mission. They were eager to take it on and succeed, as they always did.
The three students opened the doors and stepped inside to see Gojo, alongside Kanao Tsukiyama and her best friend, Kotori Yamato. The girls had been asked to tag along with Yuji and the others by Gojo, since he felt that they could use some support and the girls could use some work to make their progress as jujutsu sorcerers.
"Ah! Welcome back!" Gojo chirped optimistically. "You've made it just in time to hear the details of your new mission. And also, Kanao and Kotori will come with you since they could use some work themselves."
"I heard you guys did well in your last mission," Kotori said to them with a big grin. "Nice work!"
"I was worried you wouldn't make it back safely, but I'm glad you did!" Kanao added.
"No need to worry about us," Nobara said to them proudly. "It was a tough mission, but we handled it well."
"And we managed to get a finger of Sukuna," Yuji added, "though Sukuna ate it shortly after we met up with Fushiguro."
The thought of seeing Sukuna eating a finger in front of her left Kanao feeling uneasy, and she felt a tight knot in her stomach as Kotori shuddered in disgust.
"Yech. Eating fingers like that is not appetizing," she grimaced. "But because you're Sukuna's vessel, I'm surprised you can handle that awful taste."
"Well, Sukuna's fingers are special grade objects and they are extremely dangerous," Megumi explained to her. "That's why Itadori is here. He was the lucky one to have avoided a potential demise, but at the same time, he's got a huge bounty on his head."
"Alright, enough of that," Gojo said, grabbing the students' attention. "Let's talk about your incoming mission. Your task is to find a special-grade object and bring it back here."
"A special grade object?!" All five students exclaimed, their eyes widening in astonishment.
"Yes. It shares the same grade as Sukuna's fingers for a reason: it has tremendous amount of cursed energy, and it will easily attract cursed spirits like metal would to a magnet."
"And what is that exact object we should be looking for?" Nobara asked, raising an eyebrow.
"That special grade object is a large strand of beads known as Beads of Hisako," Gojo explained. "They once belonged to a woman named Hisako, who was said to have died of a broken heart during the golden age of jujutsu sorcery. Her spirit is sealed within these beads, and there is an extremely rare chance that whoever wears these beads will become her new vessel."
Just like me, when I ate Sukuna's finger! Yuji thought, as he recalled swallowing the first finger of Sukuna when he and Megumi were fighting off cursed spirits to save his classmates.
Kanao was left intrigued by the spirit of Hisako, as she wanted to know who she was and she had never even heard of her until just now.
"So, where do you think we should find the beads?" Kotori questioned.
"That's when you five come in," Gojo said to her. "I'll send you downtown to search for them. They could be around here somewhere in this city, and because Tokyo has multiple regions, you'll have plenty of areas to search for them."
"This could be like some treasure hunt," Kanao assumed.
"Yeah, since the beads are a special grade object," Kotori replied to her best friend. "We have to take caution when we find them."
"I have a feeling that this could take forever," Nobara grimaced with a low sigh, as she massaged her temples with her fingers.
"Don't sweat it, Kugisaki," Yuji said to her optimistically. "I'm sure we'll find the beads and bring them back to the school in no time!"
"I don't know exactly how long it will take us to search for them, so don't think it'll be an easy task," Megumi reminded him, sounding serious.
"We will find them, Fushiguro! Don't take it too seriously!" Yuji protested, earning sighs from Megumi, Nobara and Kotori. Kanao, on the other hand, chuckled apprehensively as a sweat drop ran down the left side of her head.
"Alright, kids, off you go!" Satoru said to his students, waving farewell to them. "I wish you the best of luck in your mission, and be careful out there! The cursed spirits that are attracted to those beads may be dangerous. There may be even a special grade spirit."
Yuji's eyes lit up the moment he heard the words echoing in his ear, as the students headed out of the room. A feeling of determination had taken over him, as a confident smile plastered across his face.
A special grade spirit! he thought, fire burning in his eyes. That one belongs to me, because I have Sukuna!
"Don't forget, brat, that you need to follow the conditions of our Binding Vow when you want to switch with me," a mouth of Sukuna reminded him, as it formed on Yuji's left cheek.
"Yeah, yeah," Yuji said to him. "I know the conditions, so I'll have to rely on you only when I'm in need of your help."
"Hmph. You think I can comply so easily? Well, you should know that with my power comes great responsibility."
"I do! That's why we're going to find a special grade object called the Beads of Hisako!"
The Beads of Hisako…, Sukuna thought, a devious smirk forming across his lips. That name sounds familiar, but those beads will be mine! And I will make sure to find a vessel for Hisako, so we will be together again!
"Hey, Yuji," Kanao said to her friend, snapping him out of his secret talk with Sukuna.
"Yeah, Tsukiyama?" he asked her.
"Let's all do our best together!" the Bladed Fan wielder said to him, sounding confident.
Yuji grinned to her in response and nodded optimistically as the five students finally headed out of the school and into the city, where their mission would commence at long last. The fate of their city's residents would depend on them, due to how perilous the beads would be, and the students were determined to keep them safe by returning the beads to Tokyo Jujutsu High.
Elsewhere, in a rundown building somewhere in the city, Mahito had arranged a meeting with his minions, and it was considered as urgent. Like the Tokyo High students, they were also intrigued of the beads and were willing to go after them due to its status as a special grade object.
"The Beads of Hisako…," he said to them. "A special grade object that holds the spirit of Hisako herself. We should lay our hands on it as soon as possible, before those pesky sorcerers do."
"But we have yet to determine where exactly they are," Jogo pointed out.
"Jogo is correct," Suguru Geto added, nodding in concord. "That depends on where the beads' cursed energy is coming from. The stronger the cursed energy, the closer we will get to them."
"Hey, Mahito," Hinako said to him, as she was playing with a plush Lolita doll. "Who is this Hisako? I'm not familiar with her."
"Why, Hisako is Sukuna's lover," Mahito explained to her.
Hinako's three eyes twinkled like stars, as a gasp of delight escaped her mouth. A squeal of excitement soon followed, as she swung her doll around and swirled in circles, to Jogo's annoyance.
"Here she goes again, unleashing her excitement," Jogo grimaced with a sigh.
"Oh, lighten up, Jogo," Suguru teased, sticking his tongue and shrugging his shoulders. "That's just how Hinako is. She can't help but unleash her excitement when romance is mentioned."
Jogo shuddered in disgust, as he detested the romantic feelings in general. He was the one who doubted Hinako's feelings toward Mahito, though Mahito himself yet had to feel the same way towards her since he was unsure if he ever felt romantic.
"Sukuna and Hisako are lovers! That is so sweet, just like our love!" Hinako chirped, as she continued to twirl past Mahito before coming back to him, her Lolita doll tucked in her arms. "Please, Mahito, tell me more about Hisako!"
"Long ago, Ryomen Sukuna had a wife named Hisako, and they were deeply in love during the golden age of jujutsu sorcery," Mahito explained to his minions. "They had two children together, and they taught them the art of jujutsu sorcery. One day, Sukuna was sealed away by jujutsu sorcerers, leaving Hisako heartbroken. Out of grief, she took her own life by stabbing herself to death with a katana, sealing her spirit inside of the beads she wore as a special present from Sukuna."
A gasp of astonishment escaped Hinako's mouth, and she could feel her own heart shattering into tiny shards, as her body began to quiver as sobs could be heard from her.
"And there goes the drama queen," Jogo sighed, rolling his one eye.
"How tragic," she described, sounding dramatic as tears streamed down her face. "But now that she's a spirit, I'll make sure we'll find the beads and ease her broken heart!"
"But what if Sukuna retrieves them first?" Hanami questioned, abruptly putting Hinako's excitement to a screeching halt.
A devilish smile plastered across the rag doll-like spirit's lips as she removed the handle of her parasol, revealing the hidden blade from underneath.
"If he does, then we'll hunt him down and take the beads from him by force!" She replied, sounding dark as she aimed the blade at Jogo.
"That won't be a simple task," Suguru pointed out calmly. "He just prefers to do his own thing rather than comply to others' orders. And please, save your blade for a later time."
Once she settled herself from her psychotic side, Hinako willingly complied, placing the handle back onto her parasol.
"I apologize, Geto," she said to him, respectfully bowing to him.
Mahito rose up from the leather seat he was placed upon, as he declared to his team:
"Alright, my minions. Without any further delays, let the hunt for the beads commence!"
"Yes, Master Mahito!"
