The Crimson Dragon Awakened

Cinder was practically ecstatic. After all her searching, after all she had gone through, after what happened to her sister, there was the Crimson Dragon, right before her very eyes. As a bonus, all the signers were right here, right where she wanted them. For once, everything was going according to her plan.

Yang and Ruby could only look on in awe. A massive, red dragon had burst out of the ground and flew around them. At first, they thought it was some secret ace monster the other player had summoned, but as they looked at each other, it was clear that wasn't the case. The dragon flew over the stadium, leaving the crowd to wonder what was happening. It then flew straight towards the two duelists, swallowing them both whole.

Yang and Ruby found themselves in a place like a dream. The road they rode on was nothing more than a strip of light, and the night sky surrounded them both. As they examined their surroundings, they noticed Blake and Weiss flying in the air above them, equally surprised at this new phenomenon. Below the light-road, some kind of ritual seemed to be taking place. A crowd of people were praying in front of a temple that Yang recognized as the same temple Cinder showed her. Near the top of the crowd were five people with their hands to the sky, showing five marks on their arms.

The scenery below them changed to a nightmare. Both Satellite and Neo Domino City were in ruins, with a blue flame in the shape of a spider over Satellite, and a lizard over Neo Domino City, with Arcadia in the center of the flames.

Ruby was so transfixed by the vision, trying to determine what all of this meant, that Yang had to call to her multiple times to get her attention. "Hey! It doesn't matter where we are! This duel is still in play, and our monsters are still in battle!" Ruby looked towards Yang, then forward to see that Yang was correct. Both their monsters, Crescent Rose Dragon and Celica Burst Dragon were still locked in battle. But it seemed as if once she had noticed, the two dragons finished their present bout. (Yang 900-800).

Wait, why didn't she activate Forever Burner's effect? Ruby thought until she realized the answer. Of course. She wants more damage so Celica can grow stronger. (Celica 6100-6200). Ruby still wanted to look down at the vision below them, but something told her that she had better finish the duel between them, or they wouldn't be able to leave. "I end my turn."

Yang was just as confused as Ruby, but she hid this behind a mask of confidence, both because that is how the Queen of Duels should act, and out of a protective desire to assure Ruby that everything would be alright. "I draw!" (Ruby 4-5, Yang 6-7). "I activate my speed spell, Speed Conversion! By paying any number of 500 life points, I gain that many speed counters." (Yang 800-300) (Yang 7-8). "As such, Celica becomes even stronger!" (Celica 6200-6700). "Celica, attack Crescent Rose Dragon! Heartbeat Burst!" Celica lands a punch that would have sent Crescent Rose flying, but Thorn Barricade keeps it in place (Ruby 1000-500). "I end my turn."

"I draw!" (Ruby 5-6, Yang 7-8). "I banish Rose Girl to power up Crescent Rose Dragon! Crescent Evolution!" (Crescent Rose Dragon 6200-7000). "Crescent Rose, attack Celica Burst Dragon! Red Rose Flare!" Crescent Rose Dragon shoots out a red beam that overtakes Celica. "I activate Forever Burner's effect to reduce the damage." Yang states. Ruby starts to worry. Can she keep up with this? "I set two cards and end my turn."

Yang draws (Ruby 6-7, Yang 8-9). "I activate my speed spell, Blustering Winds! By removing 4 speed counters, Celica gains 1000 attack until my next turn!" (Yang 9-5) (Celica 6700-7700) "It's over, Ruby. Heartbeat Burst!" Celica winds its claw, readying to attack Crescent Rose one last time.

Ruby chuckles to herself. "I haven't allowed that to happen." She says in her best impersonation of Yang. "I activate my face-down, Power Wall!" 7 cards from the top of Ruby's deck fly out and form a wall around her. "The damage is reduced by 100 for every card I send from the top of my deck to the graveyard." The attack from Celica bounces harmlessly off the seven cards, which then explode. "I then activate my other face-down, Power Tax!" Two dark bindings of energy appear and wrap themselves around Celica. "I can only activate this card after a monster with more than double its original attack attacked. Now Celica's attack drops to its original attack." (Celica 7700-3000). Yang lets out a small laugh. It seems that her title of Queen of Duels is over. "I end my turn. Go ahead, Ruby. You've more than earned this."

Ruby nodded, and drew her last card (Ruby 7-8, 5-6). "Crescent Rose Dragon, let's win this duel. Red Rose Flare!" Crescent Rose lets out another red beam, aimed for Celica. Yang looks away. She could use the effect of Forever Burner, but it wouldn't do anything. She would still lose.

(Yang 300-0).

The announcer is stumped. Just as that giant red dragon appears, a bright flash of light made it so he couldn't see anything. The next thing he knows, the light is gone, and not only are Yang and Ruby stopped, but Crescent Rose Dragon and Celica Burst Dragon both look as though they are encased in stone. This doesn't last as they both disappear, indicating that the duel is over. "Well? Go on and do your job. Ruby Rose won." Cinder says in the terminal next to the announcer. He wonders how she knows that, but he's worked for her long enough to know better than to ask.

"uh… RUBY ROSE HAS WON! YANG XIAO LONG HAS BEEN DETHRONED! WE HAVE A NEW QUEEN OF DUELS!"

The fanfare resumed, and the crowd, now assuming that this was all just a part of the show, immediately starts cheering. Ruby wasn't paying attention, though. She kept thinking about what she saw in that vision, what it meant, and if it was even real. She knew only one thing. This was only the beginning.
