Yu-gi-oh/RWBY Chapter 14

Light vs Shadow

Ruby waited in her room in Arcadia patiently, not sure what to think about. Between what she saw in that vision and the truth about Yang, Ruby felt like nothing was certain anymore. When Roman came in, she half-thought he was going to reveal she wasn't really a psychic or something equally ridiculous. "They're finally gone. I thought I'd appreciate us having some good press, but they felt like rabid dogs. I was ready to just run and hide in my room." Roman was surprised at the silence. He thought that get a giggle, or at least a smile, but Ruby didn't even seem to hear him.

He sat on the bed next to her. "Are you still thinking about all that happened during your duel with Yang?" Ruby shifted in her position, trying to hide her face from him. "Why don't you talk to me about it? Tell me what you saw in that light and maybe it'll help you sort through how you're feeling." Roman was also curious to learn what she saw, but he kept that to himself. Ruby, thinking it over, relented. "We were both in this weird path of light…" She began.

In a dark corridor under the streets of Satellite, 4 hooded figures sat over a table. Their marks glowed in a dark-purple aura. "The battle has begun. A signer has begun a duel with one of our own." "They shall make a great sacrifice to the God of the Underworld." They all began to laugh, with the exception of one. He hoped that Blake Belladonna didn't lose this easily. He had plenty of suffering yet to give her.

Blake beheld the monster in front of her, and didn't like what she saw. A dark-synchro monster. It seemed like a bad joke, or a nightmare. She hoped it was the latter. Then she could just wake up. Grady ceased his laughter to taunt her. "Now you shall now true fear! Dark-synchro monsters have negative levels and are much stronger than their light counterparts. Allow me to demonstrate. Since Dark Catastrogue was used to summon a dark-synchro monster, I can destroy one of your cards. Say goodbye to your little kitty cat!" The dark jester from before appears, this time with a scythe, and cleaves Den Guardian in two.

"Frozen Fitzgerald! Attack directly with Blizzard Strike!" The icicles are released, hurtling through the air. "I activate my face-down-" "Too bad! When Frozen Fitzgerald attacks, you can't use spells or traps against it." Blake is pushed back, almost to the flames surrounding her. (Blake 3700-1200). "I end my turn. But the suffering is just about to begin!" I have to take it down now before I'm either frozen solid or charbroiled.

"I draw. I activate my face-down, Descending Lost Star! Den Guardian is brought back, but with its level reduced by one, its attack and defense at 0, and its effects negated." Den Guardian is returned, its colors faded a little (Level 7-6/2600-0). "I then summon the tuner monster Gambol Cat." A small cat with small dragon wings appears (Level 2/200). "I tune my level 6 Den Guardian with my Level 2 Gambol Cat! Shadows dance upon the midnight plain. Rise and command them to victory. Synchro summon! Gambol Shroud Dragon!" (Level 8/2500). "Gambol Cat's effect activates. When it's used to synchro summon Gambol Shroud Dragon, it becomes a continuous spell on my field." The small cat reappears, resting on Gambol Shroud's shoulders.

"Gambol Shroud, attack Frozen Fitzgerald with Mad Shadow Dance!" The dragon charged forward, ready to collide with Frozen Fitzgerald in a double knockout. The totem formed a barrier of ice, but that didn't stop Gambol Shroud one bit. They both were destroyed. Blake let out a sigh of relief, but looked closer. The icy remains of Frozen Fitzgerald started to reassemble. "Hehe. Did you think that dark-synchro monsters were so easily destroyed? I activate Frozen Fitzgerald's second effect! If it's destroyed while I have no other monsters, I can bring it back in defense position!" Grady explained. The totem finished reassembling, no evidence of the previous fight on it (2500). Blake was disgruntled at this development, but kept her cool. "I end my turn, bringing Gambol Shroud back!" The dragon reemerged from the shadows, letting out a small roar. Blake noticed a stinging in her arm, drawing her attention downwards, thinking one of Frozen Fitzgerald's icicles hit her. But instead, her mark began to glow brighter.

"I draw! I then activate my spell card, Envy of the Lowly! Now, when monsters battle, the monster with the lower level gains attack equal to the difference times 200." (Frozen Fitzgerald 2500-4900). "How did it gain so many attack points? But I thought their levels were so close!" Velvet protested. "Frozen Fitzgerald is level negative 5, so that means that there isn't a difference of 2, but 12." Blake explained. That also means that no matter what I throw at him, Frozen Fitzgerald will always gain a huge advantage. "Frozen Fitzgerald, attack Gambol Shroud Dragon with Blizzard Strike, and welcome Blake into the underworld!" Frozen Fitzgerald launches a barrage of icicles at Gambol Shroud.

"I activate Gambol Cat's ability! Once per turn, when Gambol Shroud is attacked, I take no damage!" The small cat leaps off the dragon's shoulder and flies across, creating a blanket of darkness around the dragon. Gambol Shroud Dragon is still destroyed, but Blake is unharmed. The cat returns to its place atop Gambol Shroud's shoulders. The smile from Grady disappears. (Frozen Fitzgerald 4900-2500) "You're only delaying the inevitable. I end my turn."

"Actually, everything is already in place." Blake says, which surprises both Grady and Velvet. "I draw! I first activate my spell, Level Pruning. By lowering Gambol Shroud's attack to 0, its level is increased by 1 for every 500 attack it lost." (Level 7-12/2500-0). "What are you doing? Now Gambol Shroud is powerless!" Velvet protested, but Blake smiles all the more. "I then activate my second spell, Double Stakes. By paying half my life points, Gambol Shroud can not only attack twice, but all battle damage either player takes from its battles is doubled. (Blake 1200-600). "You're mad! You want as much damage as possible?" Grady asked.

"Gambol Shroud, attack Frozen Fitzgerald, with Mad Shadow Dance!" The dragon flies towards the totem. "Come then, embrace death willingly!" Grady was incredibly proud of himself. He was going to beat one of the Signers! Master would be so pleased! "I then activate Gambol Cat's second ability. When Gambol Shroud attacks, I can send it to the graveyard to redirect all damage I would take to you!" Gambol Cat leaps forward and into Frozen Fitzgerald, who's colors invert. (Frozen Fitzgerald 2500-5900).

"Wait, but then that means…" Grady realized. "Yep. You're about to take a whopping 11,800 damage! Inverse Shadow Dance!" Gambol Shroud Dragon attacks Frozen Fitzgerald, who summons icicles to defend itself. However, the icicles fire in reverse, hitting Grady instead. "NOOOO!" (Grady 4000-0). The flames disappear and the crowd drops unconscious. Velvet leaps up in celebration. "Hooray! You saved us!" She jumps over to hug Blake, but Blake walks over to Grady, and pulls him up by his shirt.

"Talk! Why did you attack me and Velvet? Who are you working for?" Grady stirred awake, groggy. "Huh?" His eyes gain focus. "Blake? Where are we? What is this get-up I'm in?" As Blake explained the situation, unbeknownst to either of them, the spider mark on his arm faded away, and a spider crawled out and away. The sound of sirens alerted the three of them, and out of a police car stepped none other than Tetsu Trudge, the officer who had been pursuing Blake ever since her latest attempt to escape Satellite.

"All of you are under arrest for disturbing the peace!" He shouted through a microphone as other Security officers arrived to arrest the crowd. When Blake walked towards him, Tetsu expected a fight. So when Blake put her hands up as if to ask him to put handcuffs on her, he thought it was a trick at first. "Well?" Blake asked. "Neither of us have all day. Take me to Cinder. I have some questions for her, just as she surely has some questions for me." Tetsu wanted to refuse, but he remembered that he did have orders to bring her in. He still put handcuffs on her, just to have a small sense of satisfaction.

"Well, that is surprising." Roman said, after hearing Ruby's description of her vision. "What do you think it means?" Ruby asked. "I think," Roman answered "That it means Cinder Fall has finally gone off the deep end, and We're all about to pay the price." His phone buzzed, and he answered it. "Mr Torchwick? Some visitors are here to see you." "I've have enough interviews to last a lifetime-" "It's not the press, sir. One of them is Ms Schnee." Roman was interested to hear that, to say the least. "Bring them into the guest room. I'll be right there." He hung up. "Some of your friends are here. Let's say hello to them, shall we?" The two of them stood up, hoping to get some answers.

The woman in robes saw her spider mark regain a leg. "Grady has failed. Time to switch targets." She exerted her will, and the spider crawled onto Tetsu's car as it drove off.
