Yu-gi-oh/RWBY Chapter 23

Anger vs Hate

The beam from Majestic Glass Dragon had just connected with Tyrian, wiping out his life points and his body. Weiss almost felt bad, seeing the destructive spectacle, but then remembered what he did to Whitley. After seeing that her brother was okay, she ran over to the tower and pulled the switch, causing a winding sound and then silence. "One down." She said. "Now it's up to the others."

One of the lights on the candle went out, signaling that a dark signer was defeated. A cloaked figure walked through a dark corridor until she reached a cell. Inside was Hazel Rainart, who looked at his "host". The figure procured keys from her pocket and opened the cell. "It's time for you to play your part." Hazel followed her through the hallway until they reached a large hole with a swirling mass of energy at the bottom. "That is the old Ener-D reactor." She explained. "Now in the process of opening a door to the Underworld. With it, we can finally destroy Cinder for what she has done." Hazel gripped his hands into fists, remembering his previous attempt on her life and how Blake stopped him. "Just tell me what you need of me to make that happen." He said. The figure put her hand on his back, as if to comfort him. "First, you must be reborn." She then pushed him over the edge.

Blake raced along, having progressed from the forest to the sewers. She heard another duel runner behind her, thinking it was Yang or Ruby trying to stop her. As she turned around, however, she realized that wasn't the case. Hazel was gaining on her in his own duel runner. She had to swerve to the right just to avoid being overrun. "Hazel? What are you doing here?" She asked.

Hazel turned to her, revealing his eyes were blackened, and showed his arm, which had a whale mark on it. "I've joined the dark signers. Now I can finally get my revenge you so denied me." He activates Speed World, forcing Blake's own duel runner to do the same. "Starting with you." Blake seethed with anger, realizing the implications of what he was saying. "If you're with the same people who just destroyed Satellite, then I'll kill you, you damn hypocrite!" A blue flame follows them, forming the shape of a whale. Ruby, Weiss, and Yang notice the imprint on the sky this makes and the glow of their marks.

She blazes past him, giving her the first turn. "I draw! I summon Howling Dancer!" (Level 4/1800). "I set a card and end my turn. Go ahead, attack, you murderer!" Hazel ignores the comment, assured of his cause. "I draw" (Blake 0-1, Hazel 0-1). "I summon Trap Reactor Y – FI!" (Level 4/800). "I then discard Diving Exploder to activate its effect, swapping the attack and defense of both of our monsters!" (Trap Reactor 800-1800) (Howling Dancer 1800-1200). "Go, Trap Reactor, attack Howling Dancer!" The machine shoots the dancer to ribbons (Blake 4000-3400). "I set a card and end my turn. Since a monster was destroyed by battle, Diving Exploder's effect expires." (Trap Reactor 1800-800).

Blake recovered from the impact with more effort than she remembered from her last duel with Hazel, proving that he was indeed a dark signer. "I draw!" (Blake 1-2, Hazel 1-2). "I summon Sharp Claw!" (Level 4/1700). "Sharp Claw, destroy Trap Reactor!" The beast launches towards the machine, causing a great deal of smoke. Blake realizes what Hazel has face-down, so she doesn't fall for it. (Hazel 4000-3100) "You remember Fake Explosion, don't you? My monster isn't destroyed, and I can summon Summon Reactor SK from my hand!" (Level 5/2000). "I end my turn."

"I draw!" (Blake 2-3, Hazel 2-3). "I summon Spell Reactor RE from my hand!" (Level 3/1200). Blake overlooks the three machines, and knows what's coming next. "I activate Summon Reactor's ability to send my three reactors to the graveyard and bring out Flying Fortress SKY FIRE!" The three machines went through their usual dance, combining into their union (Level 8/3000). "I use SKY FIRE's effect to discard a card to destroy one of yours! I destroy your Sharp Claw!" A missile launched from the monster's chest, destroying the beast. "SKY FIRE, attack directly! Sharp Shooting!"

"I discard Kuriboh to negate the battle damage!" As the machine launched its salvo, Kuriboh appeared and lead the missiles away towards itself. Hazel chuckled at the sight. "I end my turn." "I draw!" (Blake 3-4, Hazel 3-4). "I summon Shadow Synchron!" A small tombstone with cartoonish eyes, arms, and legs appeared (Level 4/1000). "Have you forgotten about SKY FIRE's ability? Let me refresh your memory!" The machine flies over the tombstone and drops a bomb from its lower compartment, destroying the monster (Blake 3400-2600). "Actually, I was counting on it." "What?" "If I control no monsters, I can use Shadow Synchron's ability to synchro summon using monsters in my graveyard! I tune my level 3 Sharp Claw and my level 1 Kuriboh with my Level 4 Shadow Synchron! Shadows dance upon the midnight plain. Rise and lead them to victory! I synchro summon Gambol Shroud Dragon!" (Level 8/2500).

Hazel beholds the dragon with awe, but is uncertain what Blake plans to do with the weaker monster. "I activate my face-down, Night Army March! For every one of my Dark monsters that were banished this turn, your monsters lose 500 attack." The ghostly silhouettes of Shadow Synchron, Sharp Claw, and Kuriboh fly towards SKY FIRE, who bats them away (SKY FIRE 3000-1500). "Gambol Shroud, attack SKY FIRE with Mad Shadow Dance!" The dragon flew around the machine, scratching it mercilessly, sharing Blake's rage. (Hazel 3100-2100) (Hazel 4-3). "You need new tricks. I set a card and end my turn."

Hazel smiles. "Oh, I have some new tricks for you. I draw!" (Blake 4-5, Hazel 3-4). "Since I control no monsters, I can summon the dark-tuner Doom Submarine from my graveyard!" A grim submarine surfaces from the graveyard, with a black energy core in its center (Level 9/0). No, not again, Blake worried. "I then summon Deep Sea Rescue!" 3 drowning men on a lifeboat appear, with two nightmarish figures rowing (Level 1/0). "I dark tune my Level 9 Doom Submarine into my level 1 Deep Sea Rescue! When the shadows are devoured by even darker shadows, the curtain pulls back and reveals a world without light! Dark Synchro Summon! Come forth, Dark Flattop!" A large aircraft carrier appears, with two metal prongs on its back (Level -8/3000).

"I use the effect of my Deep Sea Rescue. Since it was used for a synchro summon, I can draw one card, and since Dark Flattop was summoned in defense position, I draw another card!" The appearance of a dark-synchro monster unnerves Blake, but her worries are somewhat assuaged by the fact it's in defense position. What abilities does it have, though? She wondered. "I activate Dark Flattop's effect, bringing back my Flying Fortress SKY FIRE!" Energy crackles between the two prongs on the carrier's back, forming a portal that SKY FIRE flies out of. "I then activate SKY FIRE's effect, discarding a card to destroy your Gambol Shroud Dragon!" A missile launches towards the dragon, but Blake commands "Shadow Close!" and it disappears into the ground.

"Too bad, Blake. Now you shall be one with the shadows. SKY FIRE, finish her off with Sharp Shooting!" "I activate my face-down, Dark Reflection!" A mirror appears, with Hazel's reflection on it. "If you attack on the turn my Dark monster was banished, half the battle damage will be sent your way! Now you can share my pain!" (Blake 2600-1100) (Blake 5-4) (Hazel 2100-600) (Hazel 4-3). "Sneaky, aren't you, Blake? I set a card and end my turn." As he does, Gambol Shroud returns.

"I draw!" (Blake 4-5, Hazel 3-4). "I activate the speed spell, Unfair Penalty! If you control two or monsters with greater attack or defense than my monsters and I have 4 or more speed counters, I can destroy both of your monsters!" A beam destroys both SKY FIRE and Dark Flattop. "I can't conduct my battle phase the turn I activate Unfair Penalty, so I'll set a card and end my turn." Hazel laughs again. "I activate my face-down, Contaminated Earth! Since at least two of my monsters were destroyed, including a level 8 or higher monster, I can summon an Earthbound Immortal from my hand, deck, or graveyard! Appear, Earthbound Immortal Chacu Chalhua!" A great whale appears, flying overhead (Level 10/2900).

Blake beholds the monster with fear, remembering the last time she saw one of those monsters, and how none of her cards seemed to work on it. Hazel noticed this fear. "Yes, tremble at the almighty Earthbound Immortal! It shall claim your soul! I draw!" (Blake 5-6, Hazel 4-5). Blake intervenes with no hesitation. "I activate my face-down, Dark Cannon, banishing my Dark monster until the end phase to deal 500 damage to you!" A large cannon appears, with Gambol Shroud turning into a black ball of energy that is loaded into the cannon before being fired at Hazel. (Hazel 600-100).

Hazel brushes off the damage. "What good will that do you?" he asked. "I can then activate the effect of my Ebony Curtain in my hand!" A fiend holding a curtain with a star pattern flies over Chacu Chalhua. "If I control no cards, I can discard Ebony Curtain to change all monsters you control to defense position, and they can't be changed back until your next turn!" (Chacu Chalhua 1600).

Hazel views the spectacle with frustration, and then spots something. In the body of the whale, two figures could be seen. On closer inspection, he realizes that they are the children from his village. Blake notices that too. "That's impossible!" Hazel protests. "If that's true, then that means that Cinder didn't destroy my village, the Dark Signers did." The scowl from his face disappears, and as Blake can tell, he's lost the strength to fight. "I-I surren-" Before he can finish his surrender, a dark aura appears around him, controlling his movements. Eventually, his body stops convulsing. "We shall continue the duel!" His voice had an unearthly echo to it, hinting to Blake that Hazel was no longer in control.

"I activate the effect of Chacu Chalhua, forgoing its attack to deal half its defense points to you as damage!" The monster submerges into the blue flames as though they were water, and swims past Blake, bringing a wave of force with it. (Blake 1100-300). "Also, while it's in defense position, you can't conduct your battle phase. I end my turn." Gambol Shroud Dragon returns again.

Blake places her hand on her deck, ready to draw, but hesitates. Destiny or no, what can she do against such an overwhelming force? She couldn't beat it then, and she can't beat it now. "Blake!" She turns to see where that came from, and sees Ruby Rose riding in from the side. "Blake, don't give up! You helped bring out my courage when I doubted myself, so I want to do the same to you! You can overcome this, I know you can!" Blake smiled, remembering her time with Ruby at the Fortune Cup. Thank you, Ruby Rose. "I draw!" (Blake 6-7, Hazel 5-6).

"I summon Nightmare Crafter!" A man carrying various tools appears (Level 4/1000). "I activate his effect, tributing himself to activate a trap from my graveyard." The man fiddles around with his tools, reconstructing Dark Cannon. "Now, I can use Dark Cannon to tribute my Gambol Shroud and deal 500 damage to you!" The dragon is loaded into the cannon again, and is once more fired at Hazel. "Nooooo!" (Hazel 100-0).

The whale fades away, dragging its master with it, and the souls trapped within are released, including Hazel's kids, though all the way across the world. "You did it! I knew you could" Ruby cheered. Blake thought over the ordeal, seeing how consumed Hazel was by his revenge. I can't let that happen to me again. I'll face Adam, but I'm going to do for him what I couldn't do for Hazel. I'll save him.
