A little crossover fic I made up where the characters of RWBY are in the story of Yugioh 5ds. This story will focus on Season One, with more to come.

27. Chapter 27

Responsibilities

Velvet started to fade away, her connection long gone. Yang held her in her final moments, neither saying a word. Once she was gone, Yang stood up from her kneeling position, ran to the tower, and turned it off. She looked over the horizon to where the last tower was. "It's up to you now, Ruby."

Ruby rode on, wondering what she would say to Pyrrha, until she arrived at her destination. It looked as though it once was an amusement park, but now it was more accurate to call it a junkyard. She tried not to think about what happened here and drove through.

She found Pyrrha, waiting at the tower, on her duel runner. Pyrrha seemed anxious, impatient. "Let's get this over with, killer." Once Pyrrha said this, she immediately activated Speed World, causing Ruby's to follow suit. Ruby decided not to protest, deciding that actions would speak louder than words for now. The two began their race.

Yang rides into the amusement park, her mark glowing to clue her in that Ruby was starting her duel. She looked up and sure enough, the mark of the lizard was in the sky. A man in Sector Security garb ran towards her. "Yang Xiao Long?" he said. Yang nods her head. "Come with me, please. Cinder asked for your help." Yang gets off her duel runner and runs with him. "What's the problem?" She asks. "You'll have to ask her. She said it was for your ears only." He answered. She's still herself, it seems, Yang sullenly thinks.

The man leads her into a building with the lights off. Same sense of the dramatic, too. Yang walks into the center of the room to get a better look. It was hard to see, as the only light was from the windows, but Yang could feel that the floor she was on was some kind of grate. Not finding Cinder, she turns to the man who is still at the entrance. "So where is she?" The man smiles and pulls a lever, causing the grate Yang was on to open, leaving her to fall in before it closes again. Luckily, the fall wasn't that deep, but Yang still felt angry. "Hey! What gives?"

The man walks over to the grate and pulls off his disguise, revealing his true nature. "You have no idea how long I've been looking forward to this." Roman said. "Torchwick! Where's Ruby?" "She's perfectly fine. In fact, she's started her duel with the dark signer. I'm sure she'll win, she's a big girl. And once she's done, we'll rebuild Arcadia piece by piece." Roman walked back towards the entrance and pulled another lever. "Such a shame that you died to the dark signers, though. Your sacrifice was not in vain." As Roman walked away, water began to fill in from all sides. Yang looked around, but it didn't seem as though there was any exit. The satisfaction that she was right about Roman all along was soured by the fact she wouldn't live to tell anyone.

Pyrrha and Ruby raced along, both trying to gain an edge over the other. Eventually, Pyrrha gained the advantage, and got the first turn. "I draw. I set a monster face-down and end my turn." Ruby looked at Pyrrha with a mixture of pity and frustration. She didn't want to fight Pyrrha, but there was no other way to get the truth out.

"I draw!" (Ruby 0-1, Pyrrha 0-1). "I summon Cactus Fighter!" A green cactus-man covered in spines appears (Level 4/1900). "Cactus Fighter, attack her face-down monster with Needle Shot!" Cactus Fighter points his arm and needles grow from his arm before shooting towards Pyrrha's face-down. A lightly dressed skeleton soldier is revealed (Level 3/1800) before being destroyed.

"When Aquila Scout is destroyed by battle or card effect, I can special summon one of its brethren to the front lines. Come on out, Aquila Flagbearer!" Pyrrha declares. The scout sounds his horn and the flag-bearer answers the call (Level 4/1800). Ruby remembers how bad it was when she had to face that monster last duel. "And while the flag is waved, my company shall be inspired!" (Flagbearer 1800-2300). "When Cactus Fighter destroys a monster by battle, I can summon a Needle token to your field in defense position." One of the needles from Cactus Fighter's volley grows in size (Level 1/500). "I set a card face-down and end my turn."

"I draw!" (Ruby 1-2, Pyrrha 1-2). "I summon Aquila Tributary!" A skeleton in fine robes appears (Level 1/0-500). "I tune my level 4 Aquila Flagbearer with my level 1 Tributary! Endless armies of the dead, march forward and crush your enemies beneath your boot! Synchro Summon! Appear, Aquila Legion!" A skeleton in great armor equipped with a lanius and a shield appears (Level 5/2300). "When Flagbearer is used to synchro summon an Aquila synchro monster, all my Aquila monsters will gain 500 attack this turn." A great flag appears on the back of Pyrrha's duel runner with an eagle on it. (Legion 2300-2800).

"Aquila Legion, crush her Cactus Fighter with Legion's Might!" The skeletal soldier marches forward and engages the fighter. Cactus Fighter swings at the soldier, but its attack is blocked by the shield and the soldier runs him through. (Ruby 4000-3100). "When my legion destroys your monster in battle, I can summon another legion from my extra deck!" Pyrrha proudly boasts as another legionnaire joins the one on the field (Level 5/2300-2800). Ruby is quick to act. "I activate my face-down, Uproot! When my plant-type monster is destroyed by battle, I can discard a card to special summon another plant of the same level or lower from my deck. I summon Lord Poison!" (Level 4/1000).

"My second legion, attack Lord Poison!" The second legionnaire destroys Lord Poison before it has a chance to react. "Now for my third legionnaire!" A final legionnaire appears (Level 5/2300-2800). "When my Lord Poison is destroyed by battle, I can special summon a different plant from my graveyard!" Ruby interrupts. Pyrrha scoffs. "Your Cactus Fighter can't stop me." "Who said I was summoning him?" Ruby says. Pyrrha is confused at first, but realizes Ruby discarded a card for Uproot.

"I summon Tytannial, Princess of Camellias!" A large Camellia flower appears before blooming, revealing a beautiful woman (Level 8/2800). Pyrrha thinks it over and makes her decision. "My third legionnaire, trade your life for Tytannial's! Legion's Might!" The two monsters trade blows, with the soldier slicing the woman's vines as fast as she can make them. Inevitably, both are destroyed. "Once the battle phase is over, my second legion is returned to the extra deck." The soldier bows before fading away. "I set a card and end my turn." The flag on her duel runner disappears (Legion 2800-2300).

Ruby sighs, glad that's over. So if I can deal with the first one, the second will be gone as well. "I draw!" (Ruby 2-3, Pyrrha 2-3). "I activate my speed spell Fragrance Storm! If I have 2 or more speed counters, I can destroy one plant on the field to draw a card. Then, if I draw another plant, I'll draw one more card." The Needle token on Pyrrha's field is destroyed and Ruby draws Red Lotus. Satisfied, she reveals it to draw another card.

"I summon Red Lotus!" (Level 3/1300). "Red Lotus will let me bring out a level 4 plant from my hand. I summon Bird of Roses!" (Level 4/1800). "I tune my level 4 Bird of Roses with my level 3 Red Lotus! Appear, Thorn Crusader!" (Level 7/2500). Pyrrha scowled. "Not summoning your dragon? Coward. I want you to really fight me, so it'll be more satisfying when I get my revenge." "That wasn't my fault. I would have helped Jaune if I knew." Ruby protests. "Liar!" Pyrrha rams the side of her duel runner into Ruby's. "Even if you didn't know, that just proves your arrogance and conceit. You'll suffer for what you've done. And the sooner you own up to it, the sooner we can get it over with."

Ruby tries to shut her words out, but some part of her doubted. What if she could have saved him? She shakes her head. There was no time for that. "Thorn Crusader, attack Aquila Legion!" The knight attacks Aquila Legion, the two trading blows until Thorn Crusader finally gets an opening and cleaves its opponent in twain. (Pyrrha 4000-3800). "When Thorn Crusader destroys your monster in battle, you take damage equal to that monster's level times 200. Thorn Volley!" Thorn Crusader transforms his axe into a bow and fires 5 arrows at once towards Pyrrha. (Pyrrha 3800-2800). (Pyrrha 3-2).

"I'll drag you into the underworld. I activate my face-down, Aquila Reinforcements. Since my Aquila monster was destroyed, I can summon two Aquila tokens!" Two smaller soldiers join the fray (Level 4/1000). Ruby tenses at the sight of them. Is she going to summon her Earthbound Immortal again? I better get ready. "I set a card face-down and end my turn." Pyrrha laughs. "Time to show you the power of darkness."

The water rose to Yang's waist, and if she was in a joking mood, she would have cursed her body for not being taller as she couldn't reach the gate to open it. She heard someone approach. Was it friend or foe? After some time, which seemed to stretch agonizingly long for Yang, the door opened to reveal Blake and Trudge.

"Blake! Trudge! Get me out of here!" Yang cried out. Blake rushed towards her while Trudge pulled both the levers, stopping the water and opening the grate. Blake reached her hands down, pulling Yang up. "What happened?" Blake asked. "It was Roman. Somehow, he's still alive, and he's after Ruby. We've gotta hurry." The three ran off to find him.

"I draw!" (Ruby 3-4, Pyrrha 2-3). "I activate the effect of my Aquila Tributary in my graveyard! Once per duel, if I control another Aquila monster, I can bring it back from my graveyard." A dark portal appears, and Aquila Tributary walks out of it. "I then summon my dark-tuner Aquila Traitor Guard!" A skeleton in armor and a purple cape appears. (Level 4/1000). "When Traitor Guard is summoned, all my other Aquila monsters grant it a level." (Traitor Guard Level 4-7). "I then activate my speed spell Warrior's Medal! By removing one speed counter," (Pyrrha 3-2) "One warrior I control has its level increased by one and its attack increased by 500!" (Traitor Guard Level 7-8) (Traitor Guard 1000-1500).

"I dark tune my level 8 Traitor Guard with my level 4 Aquila token! The dishonorable dead who leads with the sting of the whip, express my dark hatred! Dark Synchro! Appear, Aquila Discipliner!" A skeleton in black armor with a whip appears (Level -4/2200). "While Discipliner is on the field, all level 5 or higher monsters lose 500 attack and defense. Iron Rule!" Discipliner lets out an unearthly wail, which causes Thorn Crusader to clutch his head in pain. (Thorn Crusader 2500-2000).

"Aquila Discipliner, slaughter Thorn Crusader!" Pyrrha orders. Discipliner obeys and strikes Thorn Crusader with his whip, destroying him. (Ruby 3100-2600). "I'm not finished. When Aquila Discipliner destroys an opponent's monster by battle, you take damage equal to half that monster's attack. Dark Punishment!" The skeletal sadist cracks its whip again, hitting Ruby this time (Ruby 2600-1600) (Ruby 4-3). "I end my turn. Now, stop playing around and bring your dragon out so I can destroy it!"

Ruby draws her card. (Ruby 3-4, Pyrrha 2-3). "If I control no monsters, I can normal summon Rose Crusher without tribute!" A large muscular man made of vegetable matter appears (Level 6/2200-1700). "Then, I activate my speed spell Seed of Deception! If I have 2 or more speed counters, I can special summon a level 2 or lower plant from my hand. I choose Glow-Up Bulb!" (Level 1/100). "I then tune my level 6 Rose Crusher with my level 1 Glow-Up Bulb! The flower of evolution blazes forth. Grow and grow ever stronger! Synchro Summon! Appear, Crescent Rose Dragon!" (Level 7/2400-1900).

Pyrrha grins in satisfaction. "Now I can finally have my proper revenge!" Ruby ignores this and continues. "When Crescent Rose is synchro summoned, I can destroy 1 card you control. I choose Aquila Discipliner! Rose Shoot!" The dragon forms a vine into a rifle and fires a shot at Aquila Discipliner. "I don't think so. I activate the effect of my Aquila Decoy in my hand. If my Aquila monster would be destroyed, I can discard it instead." A skeleton in the same garb as Discipliner appears to block Crescent Rose's shot.

"Then I activate Crescent Rose's other ability. Crescent Evolution!" Tytannial is consumed by Crescent Rose who lets out a triumphant roar (Crescent Rose 1900-4700). "Now, attack Aquila Discipliner with Red Rose Flare!" The dragon lets out a red beam that obliterates Discipliner. (Pyrrha 2800-300). (Pyrrha 3-1). Just barely, but not enough, Ruby thinks. "I end my turn."

"Now, it's time to properly destroy you. I draw!" (Ruby 4-5, Pyrrha 1-2). "I activate my speed spell Inherited Tribute! By removing a level 5 or higher monster from my graveyard, I can summon a level 7 or higher monster without tribute!" Ruby gasps in fear, and Pyrrha catches this. "Oh yes. It's time to give it its due. I summon Earthbound Immortal Ccarayhua!" Out of the flames, the same large lizard that destroyed Arcadia crawls out (Level 10/2800).

"Now, you shall be punished for your crimes. Deny it all you want, but you were responsible for Jaune's death!" Pyrrha shouts. "You'll die tonight!" Ruby shakes her head. "No, no, no." She desperately searches her memory for every interaction she ever had with Jaune, trying to find an answer.

Blake races through the park, looking through every nook and cranny. She looks to the radio tower above and sees Roman walk in. Blake sneaks her way forward, climbing up the scaffolding, deeming the ladder too loud not to be noticed. Once she gets in, she sees what Roman is doing. He has a set of binoculars, letting him oversee the duel.

"Yes, yes, Ruby. Once you destroy her, we can rebuild Arcadia together." he monologues. Blake crawls in through the window and attempts to grab him, but her arms seem to go straight through him. "Hologram." Blake grumbles as the real Roman hits her from behind. The two struggle for some time before Blake pushes him away. "So what's the plan, here?" Blake demands. "You were gonna kill all of us to get Ruby on your side?" As she says this, she puts her hands behind her back and presses a button on her duel disk. "Like you did with Jaune, I bet."

Roman laughs a little. "Him? He was weak. I pushed him so he could grow stronger, but he just didn't have it in him. Lesser minds would call what I did heartless, but pain is the ultimate teacher. Ruby will soon find out." Blake smirks and shows her duel disk. "She already knows." Roman panics and rushes outside. Ruby and Pyrrha are stopped and looking at him, the former in disbelief and the latter in rage.

"IT WAS YOU ALL THIS TIME?" Pyrrha yells. "Now wait a minute." Roman begins. "That was a trick. Blake manipulated that. I would never do something like that. Ruby, tell her." Ruby stares on in silence, remembering what he said in the hospital about the Profiler. Pyrrha's eyes glow and she points to Roman. Ccarayhua lets out its tongue, wrapping Roman up and pulling him closer. "No, no!" Roman protests as he is drawn closer to the monster's mouth. "No!" are his last words as he is swallowed whole.

Pyrrha hangs her head, then turns to Ruby. "I'm sorry. All this time my rage was misplaced. I surr-surrend-" As she tries to finish her sentence, Ccarayhua turns to her and yells. Pyrrha's eyes glow again and she starts back up her duel runner. "I shall claim you, signer." Ruby, reluctantly, follows her. "Now, Ccarayhua, attack directly!" The monster draws its hand closer to Ruby, but Ruby is prepared.

"I activate my face-down, Fertilizing Sanctuary! This will increase my life points by 200 for each plant in my graveyard!" All the plants in Ruby's graveyard appear and dance around her (Ruby 1600-3000). The lizard's hand just barely misses her, causing the ground to shake (Ruby 3000-200). "If I gained 2000 or more life points this way, I can special summon a Seed token." A small seed appears (Level 1/500). Pyrrha says "I set 2 cards face-down and end my turn." Go ahead, little signer, The thing controlling Ruby thought. Even if you re-summon your dragon, you can only destroy one of my face-downs. And if you destroy Ccarayhua, it will destroy your monster as well. I win.

Ruby looks at Ccarayhua, then at Pyrrha. "Pyrrha, I don't know if you can hear me. But I promise, I won't let what happened to Jaune happen to you. I won't give in to hate like Roman did. I will carry on Arcadia's legacy and save you!" At this point, all the signer marks disappear only to reappear on Ruby's back. "I draw! I summon Majestic Dragon!" (Level 1/0). "I tune my level 7 Crescent Rose Dragon and my level 1 Seed token with my level 1 Majestic Dragon! A light from heaven descends and revitalizes the flower of hope. Bloom and show that hope! Synchro Summon! Appear, Majestic Rose Dragon!" A dragon covered in flowers of all colors appears (Level 9/3700).

"When Majestic Rose Dragon is synchro summoned, I can destroy all other cards on the field. Rose Rebirth!" The dragon roars, and its flowers let out many lights that destroy Pyrrha's cards. "Foolish. When Ccarayhua is destroyed, all cards are destroyed. Your hope is lost!" "Majestic Rose Dragon can't be destroyed by card effects." The lizard devours Majestic Rose Dragon, but the dragon bursts out from the lizard's chest, letting the monster fade away. "Now, Majestic Rose Dragon, attack directly with Full Light Bloom!" The dragon lets out a multicolored stream from its mouth that destroys Pyrrha (Pyrrha 300-0).

Ruby looks on in regret, hoping that things could have gone better between the two of them. As the blue flames die down, the souls trapped within are released, including Roman back on the tower. Blake captures him and brings him to Trudge. Ruby attempts to get to the last tower in time, but a light shines from it and a great earthquake knocks Ruby off course, forcing her to stop. "We're too late."
