Mipha sighed as she sagged against her door. She wasn't sure when life had gotten so hectic, only that it seemed as though she had awoken one day to find that everything was going wrong all at once. Her father had fallen ill, and while it wasn't life-threatening, it was serious enough that she'd needed to take over many of his responsibilities. Within a few hours of that, word had come that King Rhoam had called for a council of the leaders of the various tribes. Then, word from the scouts had come that minor flooding had caused damage to nearby settlements. What was more, there were reports of monsters in the area as well. Then there was the matter of new policies on trade, questions of Yiga citizenship, and so many other problems that had all cropped up in a matter of days. And that was to say nothing of the smaller day to day matters that her father also attended to.
Once, a few years back, Link had shared with her a Hylian saying. "When it rains, it pours." Only in the last few weeks had she come to understand what it meant, and why it carried such a negative connotation.
Despite the fact that she was supposed to be done for the day, she couldn't help but continue mulling over the variety of issues. How many knights would they send to help guard the nearby towns, how many resources could be allocated to helping rebuild, who would she bring with her to the summit?
Pushing herself off the door, she made her way deeper into her private quarters. Surely she had some parchment and a quill somewhere so she could start writing her thoughts out.
And then all her thoughts disappeared in an instant as she saw several plates of food sitting at her table. Raw fish cut, rolled, and seasoned in a variety of ways, boiled crab, grilled filets, and even a few treats were crammed on the table's small surface along with three empty plates. In front of two of the plates sat Link and Sidon, whose gazes had focused on her the moment she walked in.
"Big sis!" Sidon cried, nearly topping out of his chair as he rushed to greet her. He hugged her legs, grinning up at her.
Despite how tired she was, she laughed as his charming smile helped lift her spirits. "What's all this?"
"You forgot to eat again," the young prince answered as his smile faded. "That's the second day in a row."
"Oh…" Had she really forgotten to eat? "Well, there's no need for you to worry," she said as she knelt and returned his hug. "I'll be alright."
"Yeah, after you eat and sleep."
"There'll be plenty of time to eat after I…" She trailed off as Link, who had silently approached the siblings, handed her a letter. Taking it, she shot him a questioning frown before unfolding it, but he gave nothing away. Keeping one arm wrapped around her brother, she began to read as her frown deepened.
The first page was a lecture from Muzu, chiding her for working too hard and explaining in great detail how failing to care for herself properly was going to be a detriment to the Domain and herself.
The second page was a missive from Sergeant Seggin, explaining politely but firmly that he would be handling the deployment of troops. He would, of course, take into account any thoughts she had on the matter, but there was no need for her direct involvement.
And finally, the last was a letter from Anora. The old nurse had taken the time to threaten to confine her to the infirmary if she continued forgetting to eat or failing to get proper rest.
Mipha folded the letters and blinked a few times, unsure if she wanted to laugh or cry. "Well, I suppose I could take a small break."
Link raised a single brow, but said nothing as Sidon jumped back. "Yes! Can we eat now? I'm starving!"
"Of course," Mipha replied with a smile. Her smile froze as her stomach emitted a loud rumble, expressing its own discontent. Her face burned as Link and Sidon laughed.
Thankfully, though, they were all too hungry to waste time on any light teasing. Instead, they each took their seats and dug into the feast that Link had prepared for them.
