Jack Bauer is on the phone with George Mason, explaining what Gaines wants in exchange for the chip. Mason agrees to call president Keaton and explain the situation. As president Keaton is the only one who can authorize the Skeleton Key. Mason is a patriot, ambitious, and right now he wants revenge against Chapelle for what he did. He might just get all three right now.

Dave is calling Carl Webb.

Carl: What is it Dave?
Dave: Keaton is president, you didn't have anything to do with what happenned to the president's son?
Carl: What do you think?
Dave: I need your help, I can't go to prison.
Carl: We tried to help, but he had to be an honest man.
Dave: I know more stuff, stuff he'd be willing to pardon me for keeping my mouth shut. I just need to talk with you in person.
Carl: Okay, I'll come in.

Tony has finally lost his tail, or maybe Mason was actually able to call them off. Hopefully he can get to Jack in time.

Jack and Gaines wait for confirmation from president Keaton.

Jack: How do I know you really have this chip?
Gaines: You're going to have to trust me.
Jack: I don't trust you. You kill innocent people and don't even have a cause.
Gaines: Well look at it this way, you'll be making sure I retire, that I won't be able to do it anymore. My last attempt to kill innocent people will be a failure.
Jack: I guess I'll just have to live with that.
