Kim blinked her eyes open and stared at the steel gray ceiling. Good, she had gotten back to the Dino Lab, she hadn't been sure if that would be possible after she got injured. She slowly looked around easing into any movement that might reveal more injuries and saw Tommy asleep against her side. Her arm felt so heavy, but she dragged it across her body to where she could run her fingers through his hair. She felt the pain on the other side and knew that the injury must have been worse than she realized at first, but they had obviously patched her up. Tommy turned his face towards her and she watched him relax even more as she ran her fingers over the stubble on his face. He slowly opened his eyes and then kissed the inside of her palm. She watched him as he realized that she was awake and he jerked upright.

"How long have I been out?" Kim croaked as he sat up and he patted her down to see if anything else was hurting. She had forgotten that this was something he did whenever she was injured, especially if she lost consciousness. It always brought comfort to the both of them, even if they had never talked about it in the past. "Tommy…it's just my side."

"I know…I just…" Tommy wrapped his arms around her and he let himself lose it for a bit. This was a side that no one else saw of him and she knew it. She was the only person that he ever was this vulnerable with. "I had to check."

"I know and it's one of the things…" Kim trailed off, catching herself right before she told him that she loved him. They hadn't even gone on a real date. She couldn't say that to him now, even if she felt it. She was the one that broke them apart and she wanted to give him all the time he needed to figure out how he felt. "Aisha get Ollie?"

"Yeah, he's upstairs. He didn't want to go home with them," Tommy said as Kim nodded and then tried to sit up. "Hey, hey, hey. Easy."

"I need to get moving, I'll be careful," Kim said as he glared at her and then let out a sigh. He helped her slowly sit up and she leaned against him. She felt woozy and was struggling to keep her lunch down. She didn't know what tipped Tommy off, but he grabbed a bucket and placed it in front of her as she threw up. His other hand rubbed her back as she threw up a couple more times and finally felt her body settle.

"You just want me to carry you upstairs?" Tommy asked as she shook her head and he waited. He knew that she was not up to walking that far, but he hoped she wouldn't be stubborn enough to push against him on this. "Kim."

"I'll let you, I just need to sit a bit longer," Kim whispered and he relaxed. In the past this would have ended with her in a heap on the floor before she'd let him scoop her up. "I've learned a few things in the last decade."

"I'm glad," Tommy said as he sat down next to her and she curled into his arms. "Do you know what happened today?"

"I know enough. Can you explain to me what I did to Hayley?" Kim asked as Tommy let out a long sigh. He had hoped she wouldn't ask about that right away.

"You didn't do anything. I thought I had gotten the point across after I got hurt," Tommy whispered as she watched him. What had happened that he would have this much regret? "We dated for a bit back in college and it never got that serious for me. Nothing really ever got that serious for me. I thought she was good with us being friends and nothing else and I was wrong. I've never seen her act like this before. I thought I had handled it on the ranger side though. She teleported you in without your morpher on purpose that night and I basically told her if she ever did that again- she'd have to face you. She's going to have to face you on this, frankly you're safer to face than I am right now."

"Jesus, Tommy. We're not even…we haven't even gone on a date," Kim blurted out as he just nodded and she let out a groan. It explained a lot about how Hayley had acted towards her since they'd met. "She's also your friend and she's hurting and…"

"You have a lot more empathy than I do." Tommy stood up and she looped both of her arms around his neck. He picked her up and he tried to ignore how right this felt. He had done this a few times since she had moved back and every time he struggled to keep his mouth shut about how this felt for him. How it felt to have her back in his arms, even if it wasn't for the best reasons. She closed her eyes and leaned against him and he tried to keep his smile hidden.

"Tommy?" Kim whispered and he felt her breath tickle across his neck and he fought to keep himself in check. He locked eyes with her and saw how much pain she was in. Pain had always led to revelations for them in the past, neither of them was able to fight against their deepest desires when it was in the equation. "Can we…can we take a weekend just us?"

"Are you sure you want to do that?" Tommy said as he walked past the guest room and saw that Ollie was dead to the world. He was grateful that he was actually getting some sleep tonight. He doubted that he would be able to sleep well, even with Kim being awake, he knew he still needed to keep an eye on her. "I can figure out something for us and Ollie-"

"No, just us. There's so much we need to talk about and we keep getting interrupted or pulled into some fight or just…we need time to be able to just talk," Kim forced out as he put her down on his bed and then sat down next to her. He felt her shaking as she tried to get the words together, but he didn't push her. He knew that she was still working through it- he was still working through it. "And I also…I need time with just you."

"I need time with just you too," Tommy whispered as he gave her a kiss on the cheek and she let out a sigh. "It'll probably take me a few weeks to clear some room in my schedule and we're going to have to convince Ollie to stay with one of the rangers, but we'll figure it out. Right now though, I need to get some food. You want anything?"

"Just sleep," Kim muttered as he helped her lay down and then tucked her in. He tried to ignore how right she looked on that side of his bed, but it was useless. That was her spot and no one else was ever going to sleep in it. Even if they didn't work out. Even if they just were brilliant co-parents. That was her spot and he'd always welcome her there.
