Summary: It's raining on Remus and Sirius' wedding day, a day that should be perfect. Sirius reminds him that all needs to be is just them two.
It's always been me and you
Remus stood in a library, by the patio doors leading out to the large French style garden of the manor house they'd been staying in, ready for their big day. The building itself, dating back to the twelfth century, was more tall than wide, but their gardens were what made them decide to get married there. Especially the one he was currently looking at.
It had a large found in the centre – a focal point of the artwork the garden was – and the basin had been painted to give the water the illusion of being a vibrant viridian colour. Swirling pathways had been cut into four neat, rectangular pieces of grass, the symmetry perfect, with wide stone paths going around the fountain and grass. And around the entire thing was a border of potted bushes trimmed into neat spheres of tiny leaves.
At the other end of the garden four rows of twenty chairs, five on each, no more, no less, had been placed in front of a large archway of flowers – roses in white and red.
The moment Remus saw the garden years ago, when he was barely out of Hogwarts, he knew that he would like to get married there one day. Should he let himself even think about marriage, because who would want to marry a werewolf.
But he was getting married. In a garden he'd fallen in love with nearly twenty years ago.
The problem was it was raining.
It wasn't delicate drops or even the fine rain that would make you wet in no time but didn't feel like you were taking a shower. These were fat, manic drops of rain. A downpour. Remus had to squint to see the archway he was meant to be getting married under.
The wedding party that had come with them, to share this day, could be heard stomping around above him on the old, creaking floorboards. Laughing voices sounded haunting in the building. None of them seemed to be bothered that he couldn't get married in his favourite garden in the whole wide world.
He sighed heavily, using a hand to push the door open before shoving it into the trouser pocket of his wedding suit; an expensive woollen outfit in a rich chocolate brown colour that Hermione and Harry had helped him pick. The rain's volume intensified immediately, drowning out the voices of his friends.
Remus smelt his aftershave before he heard his footsteps coming into the room. He knew it was Sirius from his gait; a little uneven in sound due to his left knee having never been right since Azkaban. He smiled when Sirius' arms looped round his waist from behind, pulling Remus tightly into him, resting his chin on Remus' shoulder. With that one small gesture, Remus' nerves were soothed and his heart soared at his husband-to-be being so close once more.
"I know what you're thinking," Sirius whispered, his breath tickled his cheek. "I'll still get married in that garden if Voldemort himself was trying to kill us all right now."
Remus let go of a slow breath, leaning back into Sirius. He pulled his hands out of his pockets and held onto Sirius' arms. "What if it's bad luck?"
"Hermione says it's good luck," Sirius said without hesitation.
"What if it all goes wrong? So much has already?" Even though Sirius had settled his nerves, the nagging questions haunting his mind didn't go away.
Sirius placed a light kiss on Remus' neck. "We've come a long way," he said, moving to stand by Remus' side, taking Remus' hand and holding it tightly. "We can conquer anything together. As long as we're always together."
Remus nodded. He was right. So much had happened since they'd been in Hogwarts, so much had stopped Remus from living his life the way he wanted, to allow himself a shred of happiness like he'd had in those carefree days with Sirius. Somehow, through it all – the betrayals, the deceptions, the mistrust – they'd found each other again. Found that love they'd had once.
A mischievous glint appeared in Sirius' grey eyes, like he knew what Remus had been thinking about being carefree once upon a time; them against the world. "Come on." Sirius tugged at his hand, taking a step towards the open patio door.
"Sirius, no. We're dressed for the wedding now."
"The wedding that we'll be having out there anyway? Why delay the inevitable?" Sirius hand slipped out of his, a grin on his lips and joy in his eyes. "You don't have to join me, but I'll be out there. I'll be waiting."
Then he was out there, his dark blue suit soaked in seconds. Remus watched him step out into the garden, no escape from the downpour. Sirius tipped his head back, his curls plastered to his head and face, eyes closed and held his arms wide open. It had been a long time since he'd since the love of his life so free.
Sirius dropped his head, finding Remus immediately, squinting through the rain. "I love you, Remus Lupin and I can't wait to see what our future holds."
Remus laughed, making a split decision to join him. He gasped at how cold the rain was, his clothes clung to him within minutes, but he didn't care as Sirius pulled him in for a kiss, his body heat all the warmth he needed.
"Imagine it, Remus," he whispered when he pulled away from the kiss, a puff of breath disappearing in a small steam cloud. "Us, the whole world to see, Harry's children to spoil… maybe a child of our own."
Remus felt a hot tear slip down his cheek, mixing with the rain, but Sirius didn't miss it. He cupped his face, his thumb stroked his cheek. "I'm looking forward to it," he whispered to Sirius. "All of it."
