Chapitre 8: Up the Creek
"The last time on of Total Drama Island. The contestants were forced to confront their deepest, darkest fears. Not all succeeded, but some surprised us and faced their fears head-on! Some had really strange fears, like Duncan, who's afraid of Céline Dion, or Brick, our favorite soldier, who's afraid of the dark. In the end, it was Killer Bass who lost and Dawn who was eliminated because she couldn't eat meat. Will Shawn and Jasmine date and who will be eliminated by Scott? Find out today on TOTAL... DRAMA... After the introductory song, we find Chris and the candidates on the beach.
Bass! Gopher! Today's event is a summer camp experience: a canoe race! Chris points to the beach, where five green and red canoes are laid out. "First, you have to team up! After choosing your partner, you'll have to take your canoes across the lake to Boney Island! "Chris continues menacingly. He holds up a map nailed to a bulletin board as a visual aid. "To answer your question, Shawn. No, there are no zombies on this island" said Chris
"Anyway, let me explain the rest of the challenge," Chris says, forcing everyone to look at him. "You're going to make a fire that will be judged by me! Once I approve your fire, you can paddle back to camp! The first team to bring their canoes back to the beach is the winning team of invincibility! Come on, campers, come on! " said Chris
"Wait, Chris, something's wrong," says Bridgette.
"What's going on?" said Chris.
"If we have to go two by two in the canoes, some of us will end up alone," said Bridgette.
"I think I know how to solve the problem, but I need a volunteer from Killer Bass" says Chirs.
"Me Chris" says Dj
"Okay, Dj is now part of the Screaming Gopher" says Chris.
"What?" say the campers.
"That will solve the staffing problem" says Chris.
"Goodbye my teammates Killer Bass," says Dj.
"Glad to have fought alongside you," says Birck.
"Now let the challenge begin," says Chris.
The teams rush to the beach.
"Oh, wait!" Chris stops the teams. "Legend has it that if you remove anything from the island, you'll be cursed forever," Chris says.
The candidate puts on a terrified expression
"Really?" said Dave skeptically.
"A cursed island! Great!" says Sam. He receives a glare from Shawn, who shushes him.
"Now get in your canoes," says Chris.
The teams head for the beach and start to regroup. Dave immediately thought of getting in with Sky.
"Hey, Sky! How about we team up? You and me," Dave says in a relaxed tone, but Sky understands. She hesitates a little before replying

Dave's a nice guy and he's cute. But I have to keep my head in the game! I can't let his eyes (she blushes) or his smile... or that hair... Uh, what was I talking about? Ah, that's it! No distractions!

"Thanks, but I'd rather go with Bridgette. It's nothing personal, Dave," Sky added, seeing the disappointment on Dave's face. "It's just... it's easier for me to concentrate with girls than with a boy!
"I guess you think talking to me is too tempting," Dave says with a sneer.
"If that's how you want to interpret it," said Sky.
Sky goes to Bridgette

It's not like I fell in love with her! I mean, sure, she's really cute! And totally great at anything and everything! And she has deep eyes and silky hair! Yes, I fell in love with her!

Meanwhile, at the Gophers. Amy and Sammy don't get along
"Amy, I don't want to go with you," says Sammy.
"Come on Samey, how can you refuse me, I'm your twin sister," Amy responds comically.
"But Samey, that's no way to talk to your sister," says Leshawna.
"But you don't see her acting," Sammy replies.
"It's family that's most important," says Leshawna.
"But... I," says Sammy before leaving.
The others watch the argument, Jasmine grabs Sammy.
"Hey Samey, are you okay?" says Jasmine.
"No, I'm more than tired of people thinking I'm the bad guy," says Sammy sadly.
"You know, you shouldn't let your sister decide everything for you," says Jasmine.
"Ah, what's the point, she's everyone's favorite, she's the prettiest" says Sammy.
"The most beautiful? But you're twins, there can't be one more beautiful than the other" says Jasmine.
"Do you think so?" says Sammy who has regained his smile, "Do you think you and I can be friends, if you don't want to it's okay, I'm not really one."
"I don't like the way Amy is, so I don't mind being your friend. I don't have many friends either, people find me intimidating," says Jasmine.

Jasmine's right, I shouldn't let Amy boss me around. I once let my sister shave my head so people could tell us apart.

Scott approaches Amy.
"You've stopped acting ?" Amy tells him.
"What are you talking about?" says Amy.
"I'm not stupid, I can see you're faking it," says Scott.
"Okay, what do you want?" says Amy.
"We need to talk about our strategy," says Scott.
"Okay, let's do it together," he says.
While Scott and Amy take a canoe, the other Gophers choose a partner: Leshawna with Dj, Sammy with Jasmine and Sam with Rodney.
Killer Bass
Unlike the Gophers, the Bass were able to organize themselves easily.
"Hey Gwen, you want to be my teammate," Duncan said.
"Yeah, sure," nodded Gwen, as Duncan was one of the only people she could stand. Duncan and Gwen headed straight for the canoe.
"Hey Dave, looking for a partner," said Idris, turning to see a dejected Dave straighten up at the sound of his name.
Yes, absolutely!" says Dave.
"Well, Shawn soldiers, it's just you and me," Brick says to Shawn.
"Okay, I'll go with you," said Shawn.

It's good that I'm with Brick because he was in the army so he knows how to defend himself against zombies.

With that out of the way, everyone was ready to leave on Chris's signal.
On your marks... "Ready!" shouted Chris, pointing his finger in the air.
BOUOOOMMMMMM
GO! Just as Chris fires, a hawk falls from the sky in the direction Chris is pointing his rifle.
"This is going to cause even more angry mail," Chris grumbles. He'd already received a few regarding Dawn's challenge during Phobia Factor.
As the teams paddled to the next island, a few campers struck up a conversation.
Idris and Dave (Killer Bass)
Dave, can I ask you something personal? "asks Idris.
"I'm listening," replies Dave.
"Do you love Sky?" says Idris.
"No... I'm not in love with her, even though she's very cute and good at a lot of things," says Dave.
"Are you really sure?" said Idris skeptically.
"Okay, I have to admit I'm in love with her" said Dave.
"Then why don't you tell her ?" said Idris
I don't want to ruin it. You saw what happened during the ordeal when we had to survive in a hostile environment" Dave says.
"Yes, but she forgave you" said Idris
"But I'm too scared," Dave said desperately.
"You want me to help you with Sky," says Idris.
"How can you help me? " said Idris
"On the way back, I'll try to convince her to go home with you," says Idris.
"You'd do that for me ?" says Dave.
"Of course, that's what friends are for," says Idris.
"Then you and I are friends," says Dave.
"Of course," says Idris, shaking Dave's hand.
Amy and Scott
"What do you want to talk about?" says Amy.
"We have to lose this challenge," said Scott.
"Okay, but how do you want to do that? " said Amy
"Chris said we have to make an emergency fire" said Scott
"Yeah, so what ? " said Amy
"The oars are made of wood. We'll put them in the fire and that way we'll lose the challenge" said Scott
"Interesting, but how do we do it without getting caught? " Amy
"You need to distract the others while I set fire to the oars" said Scott
"And who do you want to eliminate? "says Amy
"Jasmine obviously, she's by far the strongest person on our team" says Scott.

Scott isn't as stupid as you might think. He's actually pretty smart.

Leshawna and Dj
"So Dj, how does it feel to be on another team?
"Honestly, I'm a little nervous because I don't know anyone," replies Dj.
"Don't worry, almost everyone on this team is nice," says Leshawna.
"Thanks for reassuring me," says Dj.
"Thanks for coming, you're the best possible candidate," says Leshawna.
"Thanks for flattering me, you remind me of a girl from my neighborhood in Brockline," says Dj.
"You used to live in Brockline too ? " says Leshawna.
"Yes, just before I moved to Canada," replies Dj.
"Have five my new best frends" said Leshawna
Sky and Bridgette
"So, can you tell me the truth?" asks Bridgette.
"The truth? ", replies Sky
"I see you're avoiding Dave, why?" says Bridgette.
"It's just that... I really like him but... I can't" says Sky
"Why can't you? You used to get on well together" said Bridgette.
"Yes, that's true but... there's a reason I can't" said Sky.
"You don't want to tell me? " said Bridgette.
"Theoretically, I'm still in a relationship with someone, I was planning to leave him just before I got to the island" says Sky.
I see, it's quite an annoying problem, you certainly shouldn't get involved in a relationship with Dave" says Bridgette.
"I'm glad you understand Bridgette" says Sky.
As the teams approach Boney Island, a mist rises from the lake.
"Hey, was this here before? "says Zoey.
"No..." says Sky
It had become so thick that no one could see anyone but their partner. After a minute of sailing through the fog, it finally disappeared. The atmosphere had changed radically. The sky was now dark gray, even though it was midday. The campers could see why it was called Boney Island. A large skull-shaped rock formation stood atop the mountain. Ghostly moans seemed to come from the caves that formed its nooks and crannies.
One by one, the campers arrive at Boney Island.
"Wow! Look at that rock! It's a skull! It's so cool! "says Duncan.
"You're crazy! Chris sends us to a cursed island and you think it's cool! You won't think it's cool when you get eaten by a zombie! "says Shawn
"Wow, you know you're crazy," says Duncan.
"The Gophers got a bit of a head start. They stowed their oars in their canoes so they wouldn't fall out. They hoisted their canoes upside down over their heads and raced through the jungle. Jasmine, Dj, Rodney and Leshawna kept up a good pace, but Amy, Sammy and Sam slowed the team down. It wasn't until the Killer Bass caught up with the stragglers that they were motivated to go a little faster.
The Bass had chosen their partners more wisely, at least in terms of physical strength. The weaker members, Dave, Bridgette and Gwen, each had a stronger partner who bore most of their weight.
Eventually, the teams evened out and mixed. Duncan and Scott collided frequently, trying to derail the other and send him to the mat. Finally, Scott avoided a Duncan blow and it was Sammy who took the blow. She stumbled to the ground and was accidentally trampled by the campers. Amy, eager for revenge, did it on purpose, just for fun. Only one group was far enough behind the pack to spot her in time.
Whoa!" shouts Idris, coming to an abrupt halt.
"Idris, what are you doing? We're losing them! "Dave complains. Idris points at Sammy.
"Oh, my God! Are you all right? "Idris says.
Idris and Dave help Sammy to his feet.
"Thank you... "Sammy's back was covered in muddy footprints. His forehead was completely covered in mud.
"Now, let's go or we'll lose our teams!" said Dave.
Both teams failed to realize that they were missing members. As the Gophers took a slight lead, the path to the traveler became less constraining but more frightening. Animal skulls on wooden spikes became commonplace, putting everyone on edge. The path was wide enough for the teams to continue without crashing, and when the teams stopped fighting, Jasmine noticed that Sammy was gone.
"Wait a minute? Where's Sammy?" asked Jasmine worriedly.
Let's go ! You heard what Chris said! We have to take the canoes back to the beach" said Scott
ACCIDENT!
Suddenly, a tree falls across the path, stopping both teams in their tracks. The teams are confused until the culprit reveals himself. Beavers with tusks the size of bears emerged from the foliage and surrounded the campers like hungry lions.
"Three beautiful giant beavers," says Sam.
Confessionnel : Chris
The woolly beaver, which dates back to the Plastocinian era, is a diurnal rodent that lives on Boney Island. Oh yes, they're carnivores!

The teams are pursued, the Gophers on one side and the Bass on the other.
Oh, shit! It's a dead end! "says Jasmine. The Gophers had broken into a nest near a cliff, leaving them trapped. But the woolly beavers miraculously turned around and left. They breathed a sigh of relief.
Why did the beavers abandon us?" asked Sam. The answer was not long in coming. Numerous eagle-sized birds appeared. They whistled at the Gophers.
Maybe that's why! said a panicked Jasmine.
The Gophers fled again for their lives. After losing the giant birds, they spotted the Killer Bass who had caught up with them.
Killer Bass
The Killer Bass are faced with a dilemma: whether to take the left or right path.
Which way should we go?" says Sky.
"Let's take the one on the left," says Brick.
"No, the right-hand path is better," says Sky.
"Sky's right, the path is straight and wider" says Dave, who has caught up with the team.
"Er... Okay," said Brick.
As the Bass moved forward, the Gophers had caught up with them.
"I see the other team" said Leshawna "He's taking a right".
"Then let's go left! "said Jasmine. The Gophers took the left path and Sammy joined them.
"There," exclaimed Jasmine, relieved.
"Wow Samey, you look a bit worse than usual," said Amy.
With the teams no longer facing each other, the competitiveness faded and both teams felt comfortable walking.
Gophers walked calmly Dj after a tired didn't see he'd fallen into quicksand.
"I don't want to alarm you, but I've fallen into quicksand ! " said Dj
His team-mates gasped

I don't know what quicksand looks like. So I'm forgiven
Confessional: Chris
(Laughs) They came right in! It was my idea to put it there. But I didn't think they'd fall in (Laughs).

"Dj! " says Leshawna.
"I'm coming," says Leshawna, who drops his canoe and runs towards him.
Leshawna, be careful," says Dj, but it's too late. Leshawna has made the same mistake as Dj.
"Oh shit!" says Leshawna as she sinks into the sand.
Jasmine finds a rope and gives it to Dj and Leshawna.
"Dj catches" says Jasmine as she throws the rope to Dj. He catches it and the Gophers pull on the rope.
"The guys pulled with me," says Jasmine. The Gophers had trouble pulling on them, but with a little effort, they managed to pull on Leshawna and Dj.
The uninvolved Gophers breathed a sigh of relief.
Meanwhile, with the Killer Bass
Killer Bass had taken a comfortable lead, but that was until Dave broke his leg.
"Dave! "Sky yells.
"It's... it just hurts a little! Dave lied, trying to sound tough.
"You have to go on without me! " said Dave.
"We don't leave a man behind. You're our teammate," says Brick.
Confessional: Dave
I'll be honest with you. I thought I was going to die! I thought a giant beaver was going to come and eat me! But I must have looked like a tough guy.

I have a precious code of honor: "Never leave a man behind".

I've seen a lot of athletes break their legs, but this one scared me.

The man kept going... He's got a lot of courage!

Dave tries to stand up, but he's in a lot of pain.
"Soldiers, you'd better sit down," says Brick.
"It's just a chip," says Dave.
"It's coming out the other side of your leg, so you'd better sit down," Idris tells his friend.
"Okay, let me take care of it," says Shawn. Shawn grabs the fragment and pulls it out.
"AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH," he cries out in pain.
"Are you feeling better?" says Shawn to Dave.
"Yes, much better, but I don't know if I can walk," says Dave.
The Killer Bass set off again until they reached the beach. The Screaming Gophers were already there, gathering wood for their fire. Jasmine was grinding stones and Sammy was rubbing sticks to try and start a fire. Finally, they managed to light a small flame. Immensely proud of themselves, they turned to the Bass and gave them a smug smile, but their jaws were surprised. Duncan and Shawn had already lit a fire. Shawn sighed to stoke it.
"How did they do it so fast?" asked Jasmine. Duncan had an unlit lighter.
"I never said we couldn't use a lighter," says Chris.
"Shit, we're in trouble," says Jasmine.
"I may have an idea," says Rodney.
"Express yourself," says Jasmine.
"It's a technique I learned on the farm," says Rodney.
"You mean the death bullet," says Scott.
"Yes," says Rodney.
"Then hurry up and do it," says Jasmine.

I know this technique, it's effective for starting fires, but maybe it's a little too effective.

He invents a strange ball made of fir gum and twigs. He asks everyone to move back a meter.
BOUMMMMMM
The ball produces a huge explosion. All the campers saw the explosion.
"For fire, I think we have our winners. It's the Howling Gleaners," says Chris.
"Wow Rodney, they're so cool," says Sam.
"No, guys, it's not cool, that bastard destroyed our oars," says Scott.
During the explosion, Scott hid the oars.
"Well, playing Rodney is how we're going to get home," says Amy.
"But no... it wasn't supposed to be like this, Amy, do you believe me?" says Rodney.
"I only believe you made us lose the challenge" said Amy.
Rodney couldn't believe it, the girl he had feelings for had just accused him of a crime he hadn't committed.
"Okay, guys, let's calm down. I may have an idea. One of you push the canoe with me," Jasmine said.
"Okay, I'll do it," Scott said with a smile.
As the campers head for their canoes, Idris stops Sky.
"Sky, I think you should go out on the road with Dave," says Idris.
"Why?" replies Sky.
"You know, to see if his leg is any better," says Idris.
"Okay, I'll do it," says Sky.
"Hey Bridgette, I'm going on the road with Dave. "said Sky.
"But who's going on the road with me?" says Brigette.
"I'll do it," says Idris.
"I see you've done it, you've brought them together," says Bridgette.
"It's possible," says Idris
The campers all set off, the Killer Bass having a head start, but not by much. All the Killer Bass made it to the beach, except Sky and Dave, as Sky was rowing alone. The two teams were neck and neck, and Sky was able to catch up very quickly. But Jasmine and Scott caught up, pushing with all their might, but it wasn't enough.
"Killer Bass wins this challenge," says Chris.
"Uh Chris, how do I do my leg?" asks Dave.
"Don't worry, Chef will take care of you," says Chris. Chef goes to get Dave and takes him back to a tent because of his injuries.
"Screaming Gopher, I'll see you tonight" said Chris
"It's your fault, Rodney" said Scott, pointing at Rodney.
Guys, calm down, we'll fix you up tonight," says Jasmine.
Confessional: Rodney
It was the worst day of my life, Amy betrayed me, even though I was sure there was something between us.

Tonight
"One of you will have to take the loser's boat and never come back. And now it's time for the long-awaited marshmallow ceremony. When I call you, come and get a marshmallow.
"Jasmin"

It's the same thing, Rodney. I only have one marshmallow left, and anyone who runs out of marshmallows should pack up and never come back. Rodney, you can leave because you burned your team's oars, and you, Samey, can leave because you abandoned your team.

"I guess I've earned it, but first I'd like to tell Amy and Jasmine that... " says Rodney
"Girl... Love...Hesitation" said Rodney before leaving, crying, for the losers' boat.
"Uh... did anyone understand what he just said?" says Jasmine.
"No idea, but it shouldn't matter" says Amy.
Epilogue
In the infirmary tent, Dave sits on a cot, reading a book. His leg is bandaged and he has been confined to the tent for the night. What was shaping up to be a dull night is interrupted by Sky's entrance.
The tours aren't over yet, are they? asks Sky.
Oh, they probably are, but who cares?" replies Dave.
"How's your leg?" asks Sky.
"The chief told me I wouldn't know there when the next challange starts," says Dave.
"If you're injured to the point where you can't compete, we'll have to eliminate you the next time we lose an event! And that would be a shame" said Sky
Wouldn't it? " said Dave, blushing.
"I brought you some food," said Sky, handing Dave a bowl.
"No thanks, I've already eaten. And it wasn't too bad actually" said Dave
"Really," said Sky.
"Yes, I suppose Chef does more for those who are injured."
"Maybe we should all be injured and spend some time here."
While Sky and Dave were talking, something else was happening in the forest.
The forest
Shawn was sitting alone in his tree, eating fruit and looking for zombies. Suddenly, Shawn was startled by a vision.
"A voice says to him: "Are you looking for zombies again? Shawn looks down and sees Jasmine.
"No zombies yet, but he can swim, so he can swim to the beach" said Shawn
"You're right, it could be anywhere," says Jasmine.
"I'm a little tired, so I'm going to get some sleep," says Shawn.
"See you later," says Jasmine.

Usually, when I meet a girl, I talk about it, but with Jasmine, it's different. I'm glad I met her.

Author's note: Wow, another new chapter. Hope you enjoyed it, let me know. Rodney wasn't supposed to be eliminated so late, he was supposed to take B's place, but having a character who doesn't talk is hard to make interesting.
What I thought of Rodney: Rodney is a character I like, but his shyness with the girls annoyed me a bit, so I tried to make him a bit shy.
