Author's Note: for older readers, this is part 2 of "Meeting an Old Friend"

You're Full of Surprises

Once they were back on the ground, they waved and went their separate ways. 'I need to find Impa somehow…it's been too long since we've spoken.' Unfortunately, the chances of simply running into her were next to none, so, using another entrance to the castle, he had a couple of places in mind to check.

First was near Zelda's room, which caught him looks from the guards. 'Hm, not here. But I wouldn't want to hang around these guards either.' He strolled up to the two doors that led to the Princess's room and opened one, only stopping halfway inside when he was yelled at from across the room.

"Just what do you think you're doing!?" The middle-aged guard had his spear pointed at him. Another was on his way.

"Whoa, calm down." 'This feels like getting caught by the guards in my own world…' "I'm just trying to get to Zelda's study and it's right through here," He explained.

"Under what rules are you allowed in the King's daughter's chambers?!" The other spat.

Now that another spear was pointed at him, he started to raise his hands, "I'm Zelda's friend. I also think she'd understand and dismiss me coming through." Before the guards could attempt to stab the weapons forward, he threatened them with the door, "Wait! You wouldn't put a scratch on Her Highness's door, would you? Then she'll be really upset!" Young Link culled the feigned worry as he made a face at them and practically closed the door on their noses. He couldn't sense anyone else in the room so he ran to the other door before the guards could get in.

"Kid?" Came Impa's mildly concerned voice, "Did I actually just see you come from Zelda's room?"

Looking through his peripherals, he found another pair of spears aimed at him. He didn't bother taking a defensive stance, only putting a hand on his hip, "Yeah you did, but I was trying to look for you so…" He shrugged, "Do you have a minute? Here is fine." Halfway through his sentence, she offered him her hand. The second his fingers made contact with hers, they had warped to another part of the castle. It seemed to be a hallway that was located toward the back of the castle, 'Or at least it's one that I don't recognize.'

The Sheikah intently looked back at him, waiting for him to speak.

"O-Oh, right. I just wanted to ask how things are between me and…well…your people." 'Dammit, I planned for that to sound more confident!' He added context, "I was just curious because I was out with Link yesterday and, I could be wrong, but one of the guys at the fort we passed didn't seem to take too kindly to me."

Impa crossed her arms, "Well, it could be that he didn't understand why he saw the two of you out there. However, to answer your question, we've come to realize with each Yiga member you kill that it's very unlikely that you were any sort of follower. If anything, it seems like you hate them. Also, now that they'll eventually know who you really are, like I said earlier, it makes sense why you can speak that language." She wore a small smile, "Basically, you should be fine. I'm sure plenty of them won't believe it, but I doubt the Deku Tree would lie."

He rubbed his arm, "That's nice to hear. Also, I wouldn't say that I hate the Yiga, they're just trying to kill me because they know me." Young Link watched her expression go from content to shocked…perhaps a little mad too.

"They WHAT!?"

Her aggravated tone made him take a step back, "I—you didn't—I thought—!" He facepalmed, "Wait a second! I don't mean that they know me personally!" He quickly explained that they had his story from the Book of Legends, "So, because of that, they've known for a while who I am and that's why they want to kill me." To his surprise this made her look more distressed.

"I know how much detail those stories go into! They practically know everything about you!"

"I know! Why else would I kill them other than out of self-defense!?" He blurted. A moment passed between them before his composure slumped as he sighed, "Believe me, it's mainly out of defense. I don't know when you've last fought one, but they're pretty tricky." Saying it out loud made him look to his left hand, 'That's right…I've probably lost the ability to heal like I used to…'

"What? Why are you looking at your hand?" Impa was momentarily stunned at his previous statement, but now she was concerned.

Young Link bit his lip as he switched his gaze to look out the window, 'I would rather tell Link or Zelda I lost that ability than her.' "Oh sorry, just a bit of reflex when I'm thinking. Uh, feel free to let the Princess know about that. She probably came to that conclusion already, but who knows?" He faced her, "Otherwise, thanks for telling me. It might not seem like a big deal to you, but I was quite close to the tribe where I'm from, so y'know…yeah."

"Will do, and I can see where you're coming from." Impa went to walk toward the end of the hall.

"One last thing."

"Hm?" She looked back.

"Could you…could you teleport me back to the front of the castle? Please?" He put his fingers together, "I haven't been to this part since I'm usually not allowed." In the next moment, Zelda's friend extended her hand, and he was just inside the door that led out. "Tha—" He looked around, hearing the sound of a fluttering piece of paper, "—nks…"

'Eh, oh well. Time to pay that blacksmith a visit.'

"Well well well, look at what the wind swept in," The man greeted as he stuck a sword into a barrel to cool, "It's the youngin' from before, only he looks like he's got an interestin' reason to be here." He smirked as he looked his way, "Did I get that right?"

Young Link chuckled, "Sure did. It must have been the way I walked up, huh?"

"And the youngin' proves his smarts once again." He leaned over the wooden counter, "What can I do for ya? Need your blade sharpened?"

He hopped onto the counter with the intent to swing his legs over to the other side, "Actually, I've got something I want to modify. It's better if I show you, if you don't mind of course." A smile grew on his face as he watched the smith look around before gesturing for him to come. He walked past the anvil to a table in the back, emptying out a satchel that held the silver shards and then placing his boomerang next to it. "Link had gotten me this boomerang as a gift," Young Link explained as he picked up one of the pieces of metal, "And these shards came from my shield that got shattered by the Yiga." He brung it closer to his face, "On that note, ignore the blood. It's just from me, don't worry. Anyways, the idea is that I cover one end in these sharp pieces. I'm pretty sure it won't change how it…flies I guess, but rather than knocking those Yiga in the heads, I could better make heads roll—er—get some of the attention off me."

The smith's face was flabbergasted as he brought a hand up to his chin.

"Oh yeah, they kinda try to attack me at the same time. That's what I meant by attention," He added, bringing the shard toward the boomerang and holding it up, "Sound possible?"

The middle-aged man took the wooden tool and turned it in his hands, "I believe so…however, I'm sure it's no surprise that I'm concerned that you want to do this." He took a seat in the shabby stool beside him, "You have many accomplishments to your name, yet at the same time, next to me is a boy who would be starting his first year at the academy, and he's asking me to stick spikes on the end of his boomerang."

A pool of contempt started to bubble inside the young hero, 'Why am I even surprised? Granted, he has a point, but still.' "Well I never asked you specifically to make it, I was asking if it was possible. Then, if it is, I could pay you for letting me use a hammer or something."

"Ho ho, you got me there." After pondering it for a minute longer, he sat the boomerang down and looked back over toward the barrel, "How about this: it's possible and I can make it for you."

Young Link perked up, "How much? A hundred per day?"

"A hundr—?" The blacksmith grinned as he shook his head, "I think that's crazier than what we've got going on here, hell no. This is a really easy job, so how about you don't mention it to anyone, and then next time there won't be a next time?"

He stuck his hand out to shake it, "Perfectly fine by me! Believe me, I won't say a word. Furthermore, I don't break my promises." They shook on it.

"I'm glad to hear it." He pretended to shoo him away, "Now skedaddle before you've got those kids from the academy thinking they can just come over and talk to me. Should be ready in a couple of days."

The young hero grinned his thanks as he left and hopped back over the counter. Feeling accomplished, he decided to have a look around town. 'I bet it looks pretty different with all the other races around. In fact, I bet they're all here for the ceremony Zelda was talking about.' Thinking of seeing his descendant being up with the other champions made his heart swell in pride, 'Ahh…this is making me feel old. Like geez, I don't even have kids of my own..' He squinted, '..yet?'

Shrugging, he continued past the gates and took in the marvelous festive sights and sounds. He watched as another string of blue flags were hung across the square and heard music in the distance above the buzzing conversations. With a skip in his step, Young Link immersed himself into the bustling streets. With his sights set on the town square, he giggled at seeing a few zora swimming in circles in the fountain. He ran up and leaned over the edge, but quickly pulled himself back at one of them popping their head out of the water. A wet hand pinched his cheek and moved his face around.

"A Hylian child!" The woman cooed, "You're the first one who's come up to the fountain today!" Her light green eyes grew brighter as she got a better look at his face, "Oh hey! I remember you! I think I briefly saw you the last time you were at the Domain!"

"That's right," He smiled, "So are you guys here for the ceremony?" 'Oh my goodness there's water going down my neck!'

Another surfaced, shaking his head, "Absolutely! Isn't it so exciting? All the decorating around town really sells the atmosphere!"

The young hero's cheeks started to turn pink as he realized the zora girl hadn't let go of his face. He lightly put his hand on hers, "Haha, you can let go now. I'm not that cute."

She laughed as she took it back, "Well I wouldn't say that! I can tell you'll grow up to be quite the handsome young man. It's all in the brows as I like to say!"

"Eh? I'd say it's more in the eyes!" The other commented.

"No way! Handsome eyebrows say it all!"

Young Link pretended he didn't see the other zora wink at him, 'Yeah it's time to go.' "Well it was nice talking, I hope to see you guys there!" He jogged in the direction of music and found a small band of Gerudo women playing.

A little girl rocked the bongos, an older woman played the guitar, one played the bass, and another sang while shaking small maracas. Their music was very suave and romantic, yet upbeat. Great for setting the mood for a date or getting people to move their hips at a festival.

He joined the surrounding crowd that bobbed their heads and snapped their fingers to the beat. While traversing the clutter of people to try to get a better view, he once again bumped right into the Gerudo Chief herself.

"My, it's the Hero of Time," Her confident yet teasingly sly manner of speaking was hard to miss. She helped him to his feet, "Enjoying the music as well?"

"It's wonderful! Plus, the Gerudo have always had the kind of music that draws your attention in and makes you want to dance!" He felt his other hand get taken, causing him to look up and catch her piercing green gaze. 'Huh!?'

"Is that so? Care to tango then?"

"Uuhhh…" He pulled his hands back and looked her up and down, "I'm pretty sure I'm a little too short for that!" 'I come up to her stomach! There's no way this would work!' Now that he thought about it, he doubted even his adult body would be tall enough.

She laughed as she retook them, "Nonsense! I'd like to say it's feasible if I think it is."

His heart skipped a beat when her head whipped to the band. She signaled to them with a yell and then spoke to them in Gerudo. Young Link's eyes grew wider and wider as he heard them stop and then saw them all smile at each other. The people around had moved off to the sides to allow them both space.

Her smile was bright when she looked back to him, "I told them to play something spicy. You ready?"

He stood up straighter and forcefully swallowed his many doubts, gaining a fiery glint in his eyes, "I'll follow your lead."

The song started with the rapid strumming of a guitar, a seductive voice following it to set the tone. In the blink of an eye, he went from standing a foot away from her to nearly smacking his cheek against her torso. The Chief had pulled their arms apart, consequently bringing them close together. From there, the music immediately picked up with the addition of an upbeat bassline along with the maracas and bongos going hand in hand.

They both went off, stepping rhythmically to the beat of the music. Young Link managed to stay in time with Urbosa and keep their steps close together. Though, after a minute of traveling around the space they were given, he became less worried about watching her feet and started to smile. 'This is fun!' It was a little awkward with their heights being incredibly different, but it worked. Urbosa's complexion only brightened more with the addition of his infectious joy.

"What's this called?" He asked as they stepped apart for a split second before joining back together.

She laughed as she shimmied, "Sah-salta! A favorite of mine!"

Before he could respond, his hand was held over his head and he was spun like a top. Everything turned into one huge blur. However, he could hear the hoots and hollers that were accompanied by applause. A hand on his shoulder stopped him in place and they continued with what they did before.

"Oh, um, excuse us."

His eyes briefly broke away from the Gerudo champion's, 'That sounds familiar? Though I can hardly hear it over all the music and fun!' His gaze started to return, it made him happy to see Urbosa in a good mood, 'Wait what? Did I just see blon—'

"Um, Urbosa?" The gentle voice came again, "Urbosa!"

The young hero's face turned a light shade of red as they both paused.

"Ah! Mipha and Link!" She started to shift with the beat once more, "Come to join us?"

Mipha's eyes widened at the gesture, causing them to flick between the knight and the both of them, "Oh n-n-no!" She nervously giggled, "We were looking for you two. Could you come back to the castle with us?"

His face turned a slightly deeper shade of red after his eyes connected with Link's, 'What is that face he's making!? Is that bastard hiding a damn smirk!?' Soon his expression turned smug as he perused his way over and tugged at his arm, "C'mon Link! It's really easy!" Just as he grabbed his other hand and started to move them back and forth, his descendant smiled for a microsecond before shaking his head and stepping back, bringing him with, "Aw what?!" 'Damn you, that was clever!'

Urbosa put a hand on her hip and nodded her thanks to the band as she followed them away from the crowd. She walked next to the young hero, "I'm very impressed with how quickly you caught on. I suppose you're not a hero for nothing, hm? Used to going with the flow?"

"That's right! I definitely had to learn a new one here, though." A grin reappeared as he could still hear the music from where they were, "Here I was, thinking you were set out to embarrass me. Then again, I'd call myself a musician before I'd call myself a dancer." The only other time he could recall dancing was when that one guy from Termina wanted to pass on his dance so he could…die? Something like that. 'And that was a weird dance, I can't lie. I'm still surprised those twins liked it.'

"You know, that little girl on the bongos was inspired by you when she said you played her little group a tune. Might I hear what it was?"

Young Link felt their gazes on him as he pulled out his ocarina, "Sure." He played the Requiem of Spirit once more, peacefully sighing once it was over. "I'm a little surprised she wanted to play something like the drums after hearing it, but I'm glad she liked it."

Mipha and Urbosa looked pleasantly surprised by his abilities. Link, on the other hand, gave a small thumbs up. "That was beautiful," Mipha complimented as they neared the door.

"Hm, I almost want to say it sounds familiar, but," the Gerudo Chief shrugged, "it's not ringing any bells." She smirked, "I'd say your dancing was only slightly subpar compared to that display."

He chuckled, "Ha, whatever you say."

It turned out that Zelda wanted to call a meeting to discuss the ceremony that was happening two days from now.

"Right," she said, raising her hand to get their attention, "My father has given me more details to share with you all regarding the ceremony." The princess delved into specific formations that they wanted the other citizens to take in the Atrium and talked about where the champions would all stand.

The Hero of Time's eyes began to get heavy, mainly because he couldn't understand a large portion of what she was talking about. Standing next to his descendant, he started to lean on him as the fatigue got worse and worse. His eyes sat permanently at half-mast.

"Lastly, Link, you'll be in the center with the royal guard behind you." Her eyes shifted over to the young hero's, her expression briefly reading that she was amused before it resumed its serious nature. "Ahem, and you, Hero, where would you like to be?"

"Me?" He asked, pointing to himself.

"Mhm."

Young Link shrugged, "Well clearly it can't be next to this guy," he nudged the champion, "Let's see, you have an important role, the King does, and Impa likely does." His shoulders lifted once more, "I dunno, probably somewhere that's out of the way. You could put me behind a pillar or statue for all I care."

Zelda folded her hands, looking confused, "Do you mean that?"

"The ceremony isn't about me, it's about the rest of you. So if there's some section about the Hero of Time or something, just keep it out. It's not necessary and I'm not a champion." He could tell he got their attention with that. 'Why the wide eyes? I'm just being honest.'

Of course Revali had something to say, "Oh, I get it. You're a hero and so you're too good for the ceremony? Is that it?"

"The exact opposite if you listened to what I just said." He reiterated his view, "If the event is about all of you, and I'm not a champion, it should make sense that I don't have some kind of obvious placement for honor or whatever. Also, that's not to say I think I'm better, I'm just literally not in the prophecy." 'Why must he always react like that!? Maybe I really am glad I'm not an actual champion. Sheesh!'

The Princess looked between them before continuing, "Thank you for clarifying, young one. In that case, how about you stand beside me? Trust me, there's certainly no spotlight on me."

He wore a small smile, "It's fine by me if it's fine by you, Your Highness. Though, I'd beg to differ considering you're the Goddess reincarnate. I don't know that word, but you get what I mean, right?" Young Link ignored the interesting silent reactions he received from the others.

She bashfully waved away his words, "I'll consider them. Anyways, all of you, minus the Hero, should receive a piece of clothing the night before. It will be your official uniform from now on until this whole ordeal is over, so be sure to wear it and keep up with it, please."

Daruk stretched his arms, "Is that all for now, Princess?"

Zelda nodded, "Yes, you may return to your previous activities."

By that point, it was almost invasive with how much Young Link had been leaning on his descendant. He expected some sort of comment from him at any moment, 'But I'm a little too impatient for that.' He stood up more, yawning, "Sorry about that, though, I figured you wouldn't mind."

Link put a hand on his hip but simultaneously remained expressionless.

He smirked, "Well, what have you been up to?"

Only Zelda and Mipha were around at this point. Zelda was simply staying behind and listening to their conversation, whereas Mipha seemed to be waiting on the Hylian champion.

A few seconds passed by with no response, causing the young hero to sigh and shake his head, "Well, you've only got yourself to blame for this." He took him by the hand and started leading him elsewhere. 'At least he's not resisting.' Once they were around the corner and the other two were out of earshot, he made the knight's forelock tickle his cheek, "Hey, what's going on with you, eh? If you're looking for permission to talk to your old old ancestor, you've had it for a while now. Unless," His hand went up to his ear as he turned it in, "My hearing's gone bad? Oh Gods, Link! Don't tell me I've got wrinkles all of the sudden!"

The champion chuckled at his nonsense, "Okay okay, I get what you're saying. Also, there's nothing going on with me. I'd just rather not have them listen to our conversation."

"Fair enough," he crossed his arms, "That was a pretty bad attempt at eavesdropping. Anyways, like I said, what have you been up to?"

Link thought for a moment, "Well, the King came and congratulated me, then I learned that I have a room in the castle, and then Mipha talked to me about being a champion. Oh, and then you and Urbosa dancing."

"Ugh, I don't like that smile you've got. Also, by Mipha talking to you, you mean she tried to talk to you, as in you just listened to her speak the whole time?"

It was obvious that he was unimpressed to hear that, "You're something else, you know that?"

"I do, yeah." An idea popped into his mind, "Also, real quick, do you happen to know where a Goddess statue is? I'm pretty sure I don't recall seeing one in the castle, as strange as that is."

His descendant nodded, "There's one in the Hyrule Cathedral. When you go into town, walk left and you should eventually see it come into view. It's pretty hard to miss."

"Cathedral?"

"Close. Cath-thee-dral."

"Oh okay, but it's still a praying kind of place?" He rolled his eyes at the smile the other failed to hide.

Link tried to explain himself, "I'm just saying, it's fitting that there are words you don't know."

His hand mocked him, "Blah blah blah, because everyone wants to treat me like I'm five, I get it. Either way, thanks for telling me. Before I leave, I suppose my day has been just as eventful as yours. I found out that the Sheikah don't think I'm a Ganon follower anymore, so yay. Also, I truly did enjoy dancing with Urbosa. It's more fun than you might think."

"Hm, I guess I'll keep it in mind. The only dancing I know how to do is ballroom dancing."

Young Link cocked his head, 'Ballroom? What is that?'

"Want me to show you?"

A gut feeling arose as his descendant stepped toward him, "Not…really. In fact, I think I can already guess what it is."

"Great, then you can tell me if this is what you're thinking of." The Princess's knight took his left hand before putting another on his waist. They took one step before the young hero broke away.

"Oh so it's a waltz."

"A what?"

"A waltz. Basically your ball-room-dance-thing."

Link put his hands on his hips, "That sounds so weird that I don't know where to start with trying to say it. I suppose have fun at the Cathedral. Just don't do anything dumb."

He smirked as he turned, "Don't worry, champion, I'm pretty sure I didn't lose my common sense when I passed on that bright triangle to ya, or at least I hope I didn't."

...

'I'm going to bed after this,' he thought as he jogged back and spied the moon overhead, 'That, and this is enough back and forth for today too.' Thanks to the champion's instructions, he quickly found it and made his way up the steps. "I also found that—" He tried the doors, the one the left popping open even though the knob was locked, "—okay cool it's not locked." After closing it behind him, he gazed around the room that was lit by candlelight…meaning it was still really dark. The candles were far, few, and small.

He looked to his hand, wanting to call forth enough fire to light his palm. It still took a bit of effort, but it was better than last time. Now able to see more than two centimeters in front of him, he found the statue toward the back of the establishment. It sat in front of several pews and was adorned in a Hyrulian blue shawl. In front of it sat a decently sized stone dish that had fruits in it. Upon further inspection he saw that they weren't rotten, but they weren't fresh to say the least. "An offering?" He muttered, "Well, I'm not sure it matters or else the fruit would be gone by now."

Young Link walked forward and placed his hand on the statue, 'Dearest Hylia, are you there? Can you spare a moment?' Her peculiar voice echoed around his head as the statue became heavenly illuminated by moonlight. Once again, it felt like a weight sat on one of his shoulders.

Yes. What does my hero wish to speak of?

'Back at Rito Village. What were you talking about? What's sleeping? Surely not the sword?' She giggled.

Mm…yes.

Not the sword indeed.

He could feel his stomach starting to twist into knots, 'Any hints?'

'Is there anything I shouldn't be doing?'

Fret not, my sweet.

But yes, it still slumbers.

Her voice went from soft to grim, causing the hair on his arms to stick up.

Do not speak with me on Hyrulian grounds.

You sense its exasperation, yes?

Young Link gulped as the feeling worsened, 'I can. My apologies.' He felt himself start to sway from drowsiness. 'In that case, I should get going. Goodnight, Hylia.' His eyes popped open at the brief touch of something soft on his forehead. Her voice began to ebb away.

Once more…fret not.

Sweet dreams, my hero…

Soon, after the last echo dissipated, he felt his knees go weak and his limbs grow heavy. 'What the!? Wait! Hylia this isn't what I—you're making me fall asleep!? Right here?!' But he was powerless as his knees hit the stone floor and he slumped against the statue. Before his eyes shut, he could see the flame in his hand still licking at the tips of his fingers.

GONG. GONG. GON—

The Hero of Time gasped as his eyes wildly fluttered open. A bell called to the town's patrons overhead. After getting a sense of his surroundings, he nearly flinched out of his skin at seeing the fire that had stilled through the night at his fingertips. He got the attention of what looked to be a priest as he vigorously shook his hand to put out the flame. He blinked as the man came closer, "Oh hey, um…long story. I didn't mean t—"

"By the Goddess Hylia herself, do I truly see the Hero of Time before my eyes?" The priest's eyes were dazzled with wonder as he crouched down to look at him.

He quickly did a once over of himself as he was taken aback by the man's words. 'Well it's not like I've physically changed…' Young Link slowly answered, "Yes? How did you know that?"

"The Great Deku Tree said it himself, yes? I learned this yesterday from the Rito champion."

'Great, knowing him, he was probably blabbing about how ridiculous that is.' "Me and him actually go way back, the tree I mean." He stood, starting to see the makings of a crowd through the windows in the front doors. "Is there, I dunno, some back exit I can use? I'd hate to get in the way."

"Or you could stay," The priest suggested with a hopeful smile, "I'm sure the church would enjoy seeing another divine being in the flesh."

Once again, he found himself holding back from making a face, "E-Excuse me?" He looked at his hands, "I'm very human last I checked." 'I think we're getting a little ahead of ourselves!'

"In form, yes, but in spirit I disagree," He went on to explain, "See, it's all up to interpretation. The Hero of Time is a legend we know that takes on the form of a young man. Perhaps your child-like appearance foresees a new beginning of prosperity for these fruitful lands. One that will grow, much like a child does, to see greater prosperity in the future."

This kind of talk made his temples begin to ache. The people who were coming in and starting to take their seats while pointing at him and starting to make conversation between themselves didn't help. "That's um…a very positive idea. However, I really should get back to the castle. I can already see Zelda wondering where I am."

The priest smiled, gesturing to the sitting patrons that he would be returning soon, "This way, please."

Young Link felt relieved once the fresh air hit his face. He thanked him before heading back through town. His head shook as he recounted what the man had said, '"Divine being?" What the hell? And what did he mean by "another?" I'm guessing the first is Zelda? It must be.' The guards at the castle gates confronted him.

"Ah, there you are!"

The voice sounded familiar, "Lucas?"

He took off his helmet and grinned, "Hey dude! You better hurry on through. I heard Her Highness has been looking all over for you!"

The other guard wasn't someone from his group, "Yeah, she seems pretty…well worried to say the least. It could be something about the ceremony, but I don't know." He looked down, "I'll…I'll be on guard duty that day…"

"Thanks for letting me know, I'll try to find her as quickly as possible." He ran past them and went in the direction of her wing of the castle. Coming up on her courtyard, he nearly had a heart attack as he threw himself into a front handspring to dodge one of the claw-like feet of the guardians. He stumbled back a few steps after landing, clapping a hand over his heart as he panted, 'Dear Gods! That nearly scared the shit out of me!'

One of the Sheikah had ran up to him, "Dear Hylia, are you okay?" It was a guy that looked to be in his twenties.

"Yes…that just…phew! I was not expecting that!" He searched his eyes for any inkling of suspicion or vice. Luckily all he could find was genuine concern, and now awe.

"Well that was amazing!" In true researcher fashion, he wrote down his observations, "Though, I guess I don't know what I was expecting from the Hero of Time, no less! Do you think you could show us some of your other abilities too?" Now his gaze started to stare off as he babbled about different possibilities, "Oh, I bet Robbie would love to assess you. I can already imagine what kind of readings he could get. Hmm, so young and agile. Surely he'd start you on the obstacle cour—"

"Okay sorry to interrupt," Hearing the words "assess" and "readings" started to overwhelm him, "but have you seen Zelda? I heard she was looking for me." He watched the Sheikah look as though he was trying to pinpoint her location in his mind, but he immediately hopped back at the hand that was practically thrusted at him, "Wai-wait." Young Link looked him up and down, "I don't let just anyone do that with me." His eyebrows lifted, "Can I trust you?"

He yanked his hand back as his expression melted into one of distraught, "Ahh! You're right! I'm so sorry I completely wasn't thinking!" His head started to shake as he mumbled to himself, "I meet the Hero and immediately break his trust a second later. What is wrong with me!?"

A bead of sweat started to form on the side of his face as he watched the researcher start to nearly break down, 'Oh…my Gods…did I really become that big of a deal overnight? Ugh..' His voice softened despite feeling like he was in a bigger hurry than before, "Listen, you didn't completely break my trust. Just tell me if I can trust you and then prove it by warping me to Zelda. Simple as that." 'I'd also like to get away from these beamos with legs if you don't mind!'

"Sorry—I mean," He straightened up, "Yes, I'll take you to the Princess. I promise!"

The young hero took his hand, and, in a split second, found himself inside the castle. His eyes now watched the flowing train of Zelda's gown getting farther away as she quickly walked down the hallway. "Thank you, I appreciate it!" He whispered before running after her, "Zelda!"

Her distressed face quickly came into view as she whipped her head around at the sound of his voice. "Oh! My goodness there you are!" It was as if she attempted to clean up her otherwise shaky appearance as she now walked toward him with her arms braced for a hug.

"Are you okay? Did something happen?" He fervently asked, not seeing any sort of physical harm. 'She looks like she's been crying. I bet Revali made some remark about her powers.'

"N-No, nothing at all," She stammered as she stooped down and wrapped her arms around him, "I…well I thought you had left."

His tone was gentle, "Left? Of course not."

Zelda pulled away and looked into the young hero's eyes, clearing her throat and sniffing, "I-I realize now how foolish that was to think, sorry."

"What made you think that, Princess?" He brought her over to a bench to sit, holding her hand in his lap. Looking at her now, her expression was uncomfortable, 'Wait, no, embarrassed? Why?'

A light flush took over her cheeks, "I admit, I suppose I'm just stressed about the upcoming event, but," She sighed, looking off, "You are who you are, and last night, after you pulled Link aside, I thought—no, assumed, that it c-could have…well…" Her gaze was filled with uncertainty, "As I am now…would you consider me worthy of my powers?" She whispered.

Young Link was floored to the point of standing, "Of course! More than deserving in fact!" He squeezed her hand, "You do so much all the time! Studying all this tech, praying every day, and now putting together this really huge event! There're probably ten other things you do that I don't even know about!" Feeling passionate about his words, he failed to realize how he'd drifted closer to her face, "Listen, I knew Link was going to pull the sword as much as I know you're going to get your powers. I have no idea when, but I have too much faith to think they won't awaken at all." Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a large figure stumble into the hall from around the corner. They were too far away to see who it was, but they had gone by the time he looked back.

Zelda nodded, wiping a stray tear from her face as the ends of her lips slightly curved upward, "Thank you, Hero of Time. That means more than you may know."

Now he grinned, "As far as Link goes, I'm pretty much just talking sense into him. Not that he needs it considering we're all the same, but I like to mess with him from time to time." He courteously kissed the back of her hand, "Is there anything else bothering you, Zelda? If it's Revali, just say the word and I'm pretty sure I could convince Urbosa to hold him down while I clip his wings."

She giggled at the suggestion, "Actually, now that you asked, it's not bothering me, but I noticed something interesting whenever you did that to my hand back at Rito Village and I'm curious now that it's happened again."

He could feel his cheeks starting to think about growing warm as he broke eye contact, "Oh, I can just not do it then. This is the sort of way I was raised to be around royalty, or at least princesses." It worsened when he glanced back and could clearly tell she was in research mode.

"No no, you're fine, I understand. It sends this interesting feeling, or rather a zap I guess, up my arm," Zelda explained, appearing brighter now that she had something to wrap her mind around.

"It…hurts?"

"Well, no. I wouldn't say that." She lifted her hand from his, bringing it toward his face, "Here, try it again."

Blinking, he did as she asked, 'Dear Goddesses, I hope there aren't any damn guards around!'

She seemed to reach for a notebook before remembering she didn't have one, "Hm, yes. Not a zap, that's my bad, it's more like a tingle I suppose. Though, this is with my left. Would you mind one more, but to my right?"

Young Link scratched his head as he watched her raise her other hand, "Um, I guess I'm just happy there's no one around or else the King would have me killed." He couldn't deny his reddened face once he began to lean down. As his lips hovered over the back of the Princess's hand, he could sense the static coming from it. Ignoring what he otherwise considered a warning, he kissed it and immediately pulled his head back at feeling her twitch, "What happened?"

Zelda's eyes fluttered in confusion as she brought her hand close to her and loosely shook it, "O-ow…that sort of stung…"

He was just as stunned as she was, only he felt terrible about it, "Sorry about that! Does it hurt too bad?"

She shook her head, and to his dismay, now her eyes shined with an even stronger curiosity than before. "A little, but I'm assuming this must be your power I'm feeling. Though…hm, perhaps my right has such an adverse reaction because you're left-handed. Using your right hand isn't plausible, so that could be why the feeling translates as such."

Now he really began to sweat, "So…what's that look in your eye?"

The Princess paused before speaking, "Well, the next thing I would test would be whether distance from the hand changes the intensity. Though," Only now did she begin to seem reluctant with her words, "I suppose that would be an awkward thing to ask of you…"

The young hero internally sighed as he agreed, 'Thank you, I was starting to think tha—'

"…in this hallway."

'WHAT!?'

She stood, "Mind coming back to my study with me? I doubt this should take longer than five minutes."

He put his hands up as he took a step away from her, "You're asking me to come with you, and for it to be the two of us alone in your study, and for me to basically kiss up your arms? While I understand that this is only for your research, all I'm saying is that at one point, you're going to laugh, and then two spears are going to come flying at me through your door, and I'll die." His stomach conveniently lurched right as his sentence ended, "I also woke up like twenty minutes ago and haven't had anything to eat yet."

"Ah, I could ask my maid to bring us waffles! I spent all morning checking around for you, so I understand." Her voice was cheery as she related, "I was thinking of blueberries today. Do you like those?"

'Oh Gods she brought food into this…' He hated to admit it, but his heart and brain were torn. On one hand, there was whatever the Dining Hall had, but also possibly facing the champions. On the other hand, there were waffles and the opportunity to learn something along with spending time with the Princess in general. After last night and then the weird idea the priest had thrown at him, gluttony won.

However, it wasn't regrettably so.

Zelda was true to her word, and it wasn't nearly as awkward as he imagined it would be. For good measure, she compared both sides, and, in the middle of her writing her last observation, her personal maid arrived with the food. Young Link was delighted at how the ever so slightly tart berries paired with the sticky syrup. He also learned that it came from the forests throughout the Hebra region. Their conversation moved on to talking about Castle Town.

"Oh right, I guess I should tell you where I was. See, I wondered where the Goddess statue was since I couldn't seem to find one in the castle. Then, after I got to the cathedral, I was so tired from running back and forth that I ended up falling asleep there!"

The Princess smiled, "Interesting, not that I blame you of course. This is slightly off topic, but I quite like the shawl we put around her. I think it's fitting."

He agreed as he continued, "Either way, I wake up to the bells and then the priest acts like he can't believe I'm real because he knows I'm an old hero. I'm trying to leave, but then he asks me to stay since the people would like 'another divine being' or something weird like that. I don't believe that about myself in the slightest, but, then my question is whether you're the other divine being. Otherwise, I can't imagine what he was talking about or what led him to believe that."

"You're right, that's quite the interesting notion…" She pondered the idea, "I suppose we'd only know if we asked him, but to presume, I guess that would be correct. However, in that sense, I disagree regarding myself, but considering I can feel your power, I'd agree for you."

"I dunno, Zelda. I'm pretty human."

"Though, despite your age, you're quite wise on occasion."

"Still." He sat his empty plate down, "Oh, have you considered talking to Mipha about how she uses her powers? Or are they maybe too separate since yours seems to be awakened through prayer?" 'I mean, if I wanted to, I suppose that even I could attempt to give her pointers. That's simply unrealistic, though. I bet Mipha does something different than me as well.'

"I have, though I remembered the other day that there's a Great Fairy Fountain in Kakariko Village. I thought I might seek her advice there once the ceremony was complete. You're free to come with of course, I figured you'd be interested in it."

"I'm very interested, actually. Thanks for letting me."

"No problem. I certainly hope she's able to help me. My birthday is soon to come and I'm not sure what I'd do with myself if I don't have it by then." Her tone hinted at the contempt she felt.

"Oh, speaking of birthdays, I just had one while I was gone with Link. I originally didn't know when it was, but uh, yeah. I'm eleven now, I guess." He didn't want to get into the details, "I'll say it right now: No. Presents. Please. I'd feel like I owe you something. In any case, how old would that make you?"

"Sixteen," She responded with a sigh.

'Wow, so I'm about two years older than you…' "Interesting."

"Really? How so?"

"Oh, er, no particular reason. I had just thought you were older," He chuckled.

Young Link spent the rest of the morning with her before leaving to go do other things, namely washing his tunics. He refused to rely on the kind castle staff to do his laundry. Not because he felt bad, but more that it gave him a reason to go the washroom, for he'd otherwise be restricted from the area. Afterward, he recalled that Link now had a room in the castle and attempted to search for it without directly asking him. He managed to find all the other champions' rooms, but his descendant's eluded his watchful eyes and ears. Not to mention, he thought of asking the staff, but their bug-eyed looks didn't seem promising.

Before long, the young hero was happy to see his blue sheets and embrace their comfort. He might not have felt the effects of sleeping on the stone floor that morning, however, the mattress reminded him that it would have sucked.

...

Several hours later, his brows furrowed at the soft knocking he heard at the door. "Come in," he croaked, leaning over to catch a glimpse of the time out the window before turning on the lamp.

His surprise at seeing his descendant come through the door was hidden by several layers of drowsiness that had yet to wear off. Once formerly alert, he now had to keep himself from falling back asleep, "Ah, it's my dear descendant. How can I help you at the fine time of five in the morning?"

"Well, when you put it like that, I almost feel bad for waking you," His voice was respectably low to match the wee hours he came in at. He got on his knees at the side of his bed, "Anyways, since it's a special event, you think you could braid that one part of my hair again? I thought it'd look nice."

He could feel his consciousness slipping, "Mmmm…..it…..yeah." A hand on his shoulder made his eyes briefly pop open before resuming their position at hardly half-mast, "Sorry, I meant to say that I agree." Young Link slowly sat up, not that it helped his case. He gestured to the floor in front of him, taking care to pull out the hair tie once the champion sat down. He momentarily thought of Zelda's hair as he ran his fingers through it.

"What are you doing?" Link quite rightfully asked.

The young hero pulled apart a small tangle, "I thought you might have brushed your hair," He explained with a yawn, "It would have kept it from sticking out in other places, but," He started to part the different sections, "that's kind of your thing, so it's okay."

"Um…thanks?"

"Don't worry, that's a compliment. Promise." Young Link glanced at the other's clothing, "Aw, you're making me get up early but won't even spoil what tunic you're going to wear?"

He quietly laughed, "I think it's enough that you were able to guess that it's a tunic."

"Can I at least get a hint at the color?"

"Nope."

He sighed as he moved on to the back of his head, "Damn, well that at least means it's not green. I suppose that's sort of my color after all."

"How about you tell me why Daruk saw you kiss Zelda's ha—ah! Did you do that on purpose?" He hissed. Despite that, he managed to stay looking forward.

He must have accidentally pulled a tender spot, "Sorry! And no, I didn't." Young Link tied his hair back in a low pony like before, "Also, I guess it's uncommon here, but that's how I'm used to treating princesses. Why? Was it that odd?" 'I knew that had to have been him! Dammit!'

"It wasn't that way to me," Link said as he got up and walked toward the vanity, "But the others questioned your intentions, except for Urbosa. She said, 'Of course he does that.'"

"Ha, well go figure, it turns out Zelda either gets a tingle up her arm or feels like she's been shocked based on which hand it was." He shook his head, "Which, by the way, was her idea. She made me kiss both of them and then took me back to her study to do the same to her arms."

"Uh huh," The champion wore a dumb smile as he turned his head this way and that to see in what light the lamp provided, "So your day was interesting to say the least."

"Don't get me started on interesting, Link." He sassed, "You managed to cuddle the Hero of Time for three nights in a row. Did you come to that conclusion yet? Oh, or all the times you've pet me?" 'I swear, he'd dig his own grave and roll in it if he saw what I'm actually supposed to look like…'

Link was just as witty, "You mean comforted? Yeah, I remember that. I also remember the time you practically woke the house those people let us stay in with your yelling. The one that was on the way to the Gerudo Desert."

He playfully pursed his lips, "Fine, I'll call this a draw for now, but I bet you'll wish you bit your tongue later." He laughed at the overtly concerned look that got him, "No, I'm not talking about messing with you today. I was being general." Young Link checked the time again before laying back down, "Also, did I do a good job or not? You've been looking for a while now."

The champion nodded, "Looks just as good as last time. Thanks for doing it again."

"No problem." His eyes became harder to keep open once his head hit the pillow, "In any case, you won't mess it up so long as you don't lay on it or anything." He pulled the blankets over himself, "In the meantime, I'm tired, and you can either quietly stay or quietly leave. I assume we'll have to be there around the same time." Now allowing his eyelids to take over, Young Link could tell he was giving it some thought.

"I suppose I could stay."

'Wait really? Oh. I honestly thought you were going to leave.' "Oh…I guess just don't touch my stuff and…maybe don't move around too much. Pick a place and stay." A blue eye opened at feeling the bed frame move shortly after that. Turning his head, he caught his descendant pausing midway into climbing on the mattress, "You realize I'm trying to sleep, right?"

"I'm picking a place and staying," He simply responded, continuing to get his other leg on.

The Hero made a face, "Staying at the foot of my bed?"

His eyes shifted before locking back on him, "Yes…?" He made a gesture in his direction, "Why are you so surprised? I don't understand what's going through your head. See?" He plopped down with a shrug, "I'm just right here."

Young Link had to restrain himself from growing more astonished as he proceeded to watch the champion lie on his side and look back up at him, "Link!"

"What?"

'Damn him! He looks so convincingly confused!' "Listen here! You don—Why are yo—I did not invite you to sleep in my bed!" He quietly exclaimed. After getting blinked at in response, his face fell into his palms before letting out a semi-serious exasperated sigh, "Y'know what? Fine. Just at least stay there and don't flip onto the side that has your braid."

"That was the plan."

'Bastard!' The young hero curled up into a ball beneath the covers and swiftly fell back asleep. His short-lived slumber was spent recounting the moments of him transferring the triforce to his descendant. It had gotten to where his hand nearly blinded them both before his door was abruptly opened and he immediately sat up.

"G-good morning," The maid was clearly looking past him.

Starting to rub his eyes, he tried to find what she was looking at, discovering that the champion had moved his way up to the pillows and was softly sleeping. "Good morning." He replied in the old tongue, shaking his head as he felt Link rock the bed as he shot up.

"I'm awake. I'm a—" His eyes widened, "Oh."

"Ignore him," Young Link quickly instructed, waving away his existence, "I'm sorry, am I needed for something?"

She shuffled in through the doorway, setting folded up attire on the desk of the vanity, "Her Highness wanted to give these to you to wear today. She also wanted to assure you that you don't have to thank her nor continue to wear them."

He chuckled, "Give her my thanks anyways. I appreciate it." To his hidden dismay, she nodded toward his descendant.

"And the champion, Hero?"

"Eh?" 'Is she giving me some sort of permission to tell him to leave? What does she mean?' Their eyes connected for a brief second, "Don't worry, he'll leave eventually."

Now she looked a little confused, tilting her head, "I'm so sorry. Come again?"

"Wait, what was your original question?"

"Ohhh, I meant to ask what you were going to do with him…" She waved in his direction, quickly adding, "Because he's needed for the ceremony, of course."

"Ah, he's just in here. I don't have any sort of plan for him. So yeah, like I said he'll leave eventually."

"You don't want him escorted back?"

"No?" 'I'm getting the feeling that this room is being treated like Zelda's room. That would be the only reason why she's bothering to ask all these otherwise high-authority questions…right?' "Trust me, that's not necessary. He's my descendant, it's fine. Thanks for your concern, though."

She curtsied and then left without another word.

Now he turned to the champion in question, "Okay what? Why aren't you as confused as I am, and why did she ask me that?"

"Oh, right." Link explained, "So, there are different ranks in a castle, obviously. The King is at the top, then it's Zelda, and then it's all the upper military people, scholars, and the Sheikah, etc. etc."

The corners of his mouth started to turn down as he continued to listen, "Yes?"

"Well, because you're…well a real legend, you've got a new place that's right between Zelda and the Sheikah. She was just doing her job since I'm technically not allowed in your room."

"Pfft, I mean, it's not like I want you in here sleeping all the time, but of course you can come in here. This is a regular ol' room." He tossed away the covers and got up, "Also, don't you dare start referring to me in some over-the-top respectful way." He smirked, "Biting you is not off the table."

Link stopped as he was scooting to the edge, "For that?"

He crossed his arms with an ornery expression, "Unless you want to find out." Young Link giggled at the champion's genuine bewilderment, "Oh, c'mon! I'm messing around! If anything, you probably don't taste very good."

A small smile possessed his lips as he started to pull on his boots, "That's not fair. I'll have you know that sometimes it's ridiculously hard to tell if you're kidding."

"Maybe I'll work on it," The young hero switched to an exaggerated manner of speaking as he motioned to the door with both of his arms, "Dear champion of mine, I would very much like it if you leave my room."

Link's smile turned into a grin as he walked to the door, "Now what the heck is this?"

"Shoo! But worry not! Soon I'll be staring at you the whole time! Proudly!" He dramatically placed his hand over his heart.

Shaking his head, the champion opened the door, "You're really something else. I mean it."

His tone went back to normal as he stuck his head out, "Ha! Better wipe that smile off your face before people think you're entirely someone else! See ya then!"

Once the door was closed, his attention went straight to the clothes, 'Now…just what did you give me, Zelda?' Picking it up by the shoulders, he could see it was another tunic, only this one was a slightly darker green than his own tunic. In fact, it was similar in every way, except that the sides of the skirt were cut, the V-shaped neckline was a bit longer, and there were white Hyrulian embellishments. A shirt as well as a needed pair of pants were provided. His eyes twinkled, 'There's even a cap!'

This earned several enthusiastic nods of approval, 'Wow, I'll certainly have to ask who made this! They did a great job! It almost reminds me of the tunic I wore when I was older…or in my older form, I guess.'

After getting dressed and thoroughly checking himself out in the mirror, the Hero of Time sought out the Princess, 'We're standing together after all,' He thought as he headed toward the stairs, 'She's also the only one who knows where we'll be haha.'

When he left his room the day they were heading to Korok Forest, he noticed that all the champions happened to be staying in the same hallway as him, 'What's more, they're either being extra quiet in their rooms or they left already, because I don't hear a single one of them, including Daruk.' Though, he'd be lying if it didn't give him the impression that he could possibly be late. He was outside of Zelda's door before he could give it too much thought.

The young hero knocked, "Zelda? Can I come in?" 'Or actually,' "Are you there?" He looked to the guards across the room, "Did she leave already?"

They both shook their heads.

He knocked again, a little harder, to be sure. But after a couple of minutes, he pretended the guards weren't there and went in anyways, quickly slipping between the opening before closing it behind him.

"Zelda?" Young Link managed to walk in right as she was slipping off her gown. Redder than a tomato, he immediately whipped around and stared at the floor.

She yawned, seeming unphased, "Ah, young one, good morning."

"Your Highness!" Her maid hissed, "Is that genuinely going to be your response to this young man barging into your room?"

"Oh please, it's not as if I'm entirely naked. Besides, we'll be leaving together." Zelda called to him, "You don't have to stand over there. Please, go have a seat at my desk." She giggled to herself, "This will take a bit longer than a few minutes."

"Um, will do, thanks." He kept his head toward her fireplace and bookcase as he walked by, "I'm glad to see you're doing well this morning."

"You as well. While you're here, it's a good time for me to propose that we eat together when it's over. Sound like a plan?"

"With all the champions? Sure, I'd like to. Though I guess I imagined there'd be a big dinner instead." 'I wonder what we'll eat…I wonder what Daruk will eat….' He naturally turned his head at hearing her stutter, incidentally locking eyes with her maid before holding up a hand to obstruct his view as he snapped his gaze back to the desk. 'So scary!'

"W-well…yes actually. Because there'll be a dinner party as well, I meant maybe you and I will eat together."

"Ohhh, then of course! Forgive me, my head's been all over the place this morning." He started to peek at the papers that cluttered her desk, "First Link wakes me up super early, and then I finally go back to sleep only to wake up again and get asked questions like 'Do you want him escorted back to his room?' I'll be frank, Link explained it to me, but I still don't know what's going on with that. Apparently he can't just walk into my room now." 'Actually, I'd just like Zelda's explanation as well.'

"Ah yes, that's right. You're considered official personnel, much like me. So, like Link, for example, he couldn't simply walk into my room either." Zelda sounded curious, "It is interesting that she suggested that he be escorted. But wait, you said you went back to sleep? And he was still there?"

Young Link brushed off her question, "Long story, but yes. I told him he could go if he wanted, but my mistake was giving him a choice," He laughed. "I don't actually care, though. It's all in good fun." He remembered what he was wearing, "Oh! I wanted to ask who made this tunic? I'm very impressed!"

"I'm very pleased to hear it. Yours was certainly a last-minute creation."

"You made it?" He was starstruck as he faced her once more, ignoring the death stare he received from her maid. "I'd hug you, but I think she'd kill me."

"My goodness, I simply don't have my gloves on yet." Zelda opened her arms with a playful smile, "You're permitted one hug."

He ran over and gave her a meaningful squeeze, "Thank you!" His eyes met hers, "Honestly, I'm happier that you gave me a cap too, hehe! I'm not against my bare head being shown, but then I'll have to look out for the both of you!"

Her cheeks turned pink at the mention of it, and, even then, she still placed her hand on his cheek as her smile beamed back, "You're too kind! Also, you've got nothing to worry about in that regard. Give me another minute here, and we'll be off."

Young Link stepped back and patiently waited, soon joining hands with her as they left her room and began the trek to the Atrium. Her gown was special for the occasion as well. It was still blue and white, but it was certainly more blue, and the red velvet accents appeared more often.

Each time they passed a pair of guards, he was reminded again that the Princess was next to him, not someone named Zelda who he helped and talked to from time to time. 'But then, wouldn't it not matter considering this "Hero" rank and whatnot? Or is it controversial for any guy to hold Zelda's hand?' He concluded that it was likely the latter, and simply ignored them. 'I'll consider letting go if we come by the King.'

Their arrival was greeted by a group of sounding trumpets from below. The Hero looked to the Princess for clues as to what this meant considering the ceremony hadn't started, but her unbothered demeanor led him to think that it was possibly for practice. He took in the surroundings.

The center of the room was in the shape of a large circle. In the middle was the Triforce set in stone as red carpet surrounded it. Long red flags draped from above and two long staircases sprouted from the platform at the back of the room. Perfect for the King to stand and make announcements from. The sun hadn't completely risen yet, so the room was mainly lit via torches around the room. Looking up past the flags, he quietly gasped at seeing two beautifully sculpted horses that appeared to jump out of the balconies with their riders faithfully at their backs. Lastly, above the platform was a sculpture of the Triforce, surrounding it were bars similar to a staff on a sheet of music, and to his delight there were notes as well.

He smiled as he recognized them, squeezing the Princess's hand, and pointing to it, "Would you look at that! Those are the notes to your lullaby, Zelda!" Seeing them now, he wanted to pull out his ocarina and play it. However, it may be a bit too early for such a thing, not to mention it'd draw attention to him.

They both walked to the center of the Triforce on the floor, "This is where I'll be for the ceremony."

"Huh?" The young hero took a step away from her, "In the middle of the room? Really? This makes sense, of course, but the way you described it, I thought we might be off to the side!" His expression was bashful, 'Aw man, now it seems like she wanted me to stand next to her for emotional support!' He didn't want to leave her side, but he didn't want to become the center of attention more.

"Oh so the little hero gets to hold the Princess's hand?" Came a familiar, snarky voice, "I assume you're enjoying becoming the castle's favorite new thing?"

Much like it was too early for music, it was too early for getting annoyed by Revali, "Oh? I guess this means that you don't have a hand to hold back at your village? I'll hold it if that's how you really feel." He offered his hand to him, getting a hostile look in return.

He huffed, crossing his arms, "I don't recall even denoting the idea in the slightest. I, Revali, reject your proposal. They're probably sticky with sweat anyways. You hide your nervousness just about as well as that other so-called knight."

Young Link cocked his head, tapping his foot to the beat of each passing second, "Gonna add anything else? You've already spent a minute and forty-two seconds talking. Waste some more time while you're at it."

Zelda moved between the both of them, nodding her head toward the group of Rito warriors who were beginning to talk amongst themselves, "Ah, Revali, it looks like they might need you over there." Her eyes lightly scrutinized it, "Oh dear, I think some of them have fallen out of line."

The Rito champion left at once, already scolding them from afar.

He glanced up at her, "Thank you, Princess. I know it might seem like I'm letting him get under my skin, but the only one I'm humoring is myself. Honestly, I doubt he'd try to pick on me so much if I looked how I'm supposed to."

This piqued her interest, "Please do tell, since we still have a while."

The Hero of Time smirked, "So, imagine Link, but with a thinner face, my hair but a bit longer, and then my eyes. My nose would be a bit pointier than his, but that's just me. I might look stronger too, which is nothing against him, I'm just being honest. Though, it has been a while, so I could be wrong."

"You went from looking like a child, to looking like an adult, and then back to looking like a child? How?"

"Like I said back in the forest, it's a very long story. It's very confusing as well." He shrugged, letting go of her hand, "As much as I'd love to look like how I actually am, I get the feeling it'd cause more problems somehow. I'm not sure why, but that's my gut feeling."

"Interesting." Zelda's smile was small as she briefly glanced at where they stood, "I get the sense you'd rather stand against the wall than stand out here?"

His expression was mild, "Sorry, Zelda. I truly am."

"No worries, Hero. I understand. You're doing so to be respectful, and I appreciate it."

"You look like you've got something else to say, Your Highness." His hands were behind his back as he peered into her eyes, 'What's this coy face going on here? I'm not sure I like what it implies...'

Her chin lowered to her chest as she held out her hand, "Might it be too inappropriate to ask for some luck? Pray tell if my father has something good to say about me."

His eyes flicked between the champions and the King, but especially the champions, and, of course, Link was standing no more than twenty or so feet away from them and simply gazed on with his usual stoic mannerisms. "Uhm, I would if your dad probably couldn't spear me from here with the candleholders up there." He winced, biting his lip, "How badly do you need the luck? Is it dire? I only have so much."

This made her giggle, which unfortunately only drew more eyes toward them, "Hm, I'm not sure. I suppose it's not dire, per se, but it'd be much appreciated."

"And if I didn't?"

She retracted her hands to her chest, "Why, I'm not sure. Though, I am sure it'd make me feel better about standing in the center of the room…all by myself…in a big ceremony."

He gave in.

"Ah, Princess~," He softly sighed as he gingerly picked up her left hand. Young Link sincerely looked her in the eye as he gently, but quickly, kissed the back of her gloved hand, "You're going to get me killed by someone in this room today."

Still, her smile was just as infectious as it was endearing, "Is that so? Well, I get the feeling that things will run smoothly now."

"Ha. We'll see about that. I'll be just over there." He strolled toward the back of the room where Zelda's tutor stood, avoiding eye contact with everyone. 'I originally wanted to talk to Mipha or Urbosa, or even see if I could get Link to utter something to me, but my loyalty to the Princess's wishes, whether it's my Zelda or not, seems to shine through no matter what. Goodness me…'

The teacher nudged him, "Who would have thought that the little boy following the big knight around that one day was the Hero of Time himself?" He recounted, "Now it's no wonder you could only speak the old language, you're technically probably hundreds of thousands of years old. Amazing!"

Young Link shrugged, "Well, I'm not too terribly wise despite that. That may be my age technically, but I can definitely say that I haven't lived that long." He brought the focus back to the event, "What do you think of the ceremony?"

"It's fine and dandy. I'm certainly glad to see that we've gathered all the champions. I was almost worried we wouldn't."

"Oh really? I suppose I can see what you mean." They didn't continue the conversation from there. Several minutes later, the trumpets sounded again to signify the start of the ceremony. Nearly everybody in the room stood up taller and gave their full attention to the King. His voice resounded in the open room.

"Welcome Warriors! Before I carry on, it is a pleasure to see you all and it must be clear that you have my sincere thanks for joining together with me today…and for accepting this fateful task." He gestured to the Princess and the five champions standing behind her, "It is with utmost vigor and passion for this cause that I officially appoint you as Hyrule's Champions and bestow upon you this sacred garb."

Young Link stared ahead at Link like he promised. Watching the Hylian champion's eyes briefly look his way made a small smile take form.

"That magnificent blue is a symbol of the Royal Family, one that has been passed down for countless generations that came before us. The garments you all wear now were hand crafted by my daughter, Zelda."

As the King carried on with each of their duties, the Hero of Time suddenly felt a weight come over both of his shoulders, making him shift ever so slightly. His eyes glazed over as he became focused on Her presence, "I thought you said we cannot speak here, Dearest Hylia," He whispered.

Her voice was soft and calm.

A distinction is in order, then…

Hero of Time, you must not approach meon castle grounds.

I go where I must, my sweet.

He felt his bangs getting messed with, "Yes, Your Divinity. I understand. In other words, I presume you're watching over this ceremony?"

I shall spectate with you, yes.

This form you take is quite interesting, Dear Hero.

Sweat dripped down the side of his face as the sensation continued and the weight on his shoulders increased, "Hardly. I'm sure your own beauty outshines the sun itself. However, is that to say that I can control my form?" Her warping giggles filled his ears as a hand cupped his cheek.

I did always enjoy your splendid manners, Hero of Time.

Otherwise, I believe you understand the answer to that question yourself.

But yes, a cute and noble form indeed, my sweet.

His cheeks had grown warm over the course of their conversation as another bead of sweat trickled down, "One last question, if you please. Are you always this endearing? I'll admit, I'm not familiar with this sort of kindness." Once again, he felt something soft momentarily touch his temple, "Like that. What did you just do?"

Hm…

I suppose I treat those of my kind with the same warmth they show me.

He couldn't help but subtly raise a hand at that concept, "Let's not get ahead of ourselves, Hylia. Please, I'm very human. In the meantime, I'm not sure that referring to you, as I do, warrants your affections." Young Link figured out that she must have pecked him.

I suppose I won't argue with you, Dear Hero.

But.

Another kiss on his forehead made him flinch as his mind was sent reeling.

It's adorable that you see simple notions of respect the way these humans do.

Let us watch the ceremony.

In a flash, his eyes rolled back into view and his vision was sharply back on Link across the room. He knew She was still there because the weight hadn't left him. Much to his relief, it seemed as though no one was looking at him…Until he realized a pair of eyes were staring his way.

Impa looked intrigued as her brown eyes cut across the clearing when compared to the reserved gazes of her peers that surrounded her.

'Huh, well I'll find out what that's about when this is over.' He suddenly felt his knees find the urge to bend forward as the Goddess weighed him down even more, 'Hylia please! I'm not as strong in this form as you might think! What are you doing?!'

My apologies, my sweet Hero.

Her yawn echoed around his head.

I grow weary here.

Until we next meet, Hero of Time.

His shoulders felt relieved at her incredibly heavy weight melting away. He rolled them out as he looked around the room, finding that Impa, now Link, and now Zelda's tutor beside him were all looking straight at him. He frowned out of curiosity as he turned his head, "Do you need something, teacher?" He asked.

The response to his question was the scholar taking a couple of shaky steps away from him as he tried to utter out a sentence. "Y-You….you were! I—" He clapped a hand over his mouth in astonishment despite him speaking in a low voice.

Before he could try to press him further for what he was talking about, the King was making his closing statements.

"And together! We will all protect our Kingdom from the fated threat Calamity Ganon!"

The young hero tried to look as normal as possible as he joined in with the applause that erupted around the room, feigning a believable smile.

The King signaled for it to die down, "I thank you all once more for being here. You are dismissed."

Young Link immediately turned back to the tutor, politely speaking, "Sorry can you say that again? I couldn't hear you over the King's speech." Out of the corner of his eye, he spied Link jogging his way, 'Dammit! I need to know why the hell this guy is acting skittish! Link, this is bad timing!'

He still looked as if he couldn't believe the world goes 'round, "I apologize for eavesdropping, but I just managed to catch some of your conversation."

'What.'

"I um…well I suppose it's just interesting that I caught you talking to yourself in such a way, Hero. That's…all." A smile for show crossed his face before he took his leave.

'Talking to myself? After saying you caught some of my conversation ?' His irises grew dark, 'You'll need to lie better than that, teacher.' He tried to calm his rising unease, 'You know what? Maybe that isn't a big deal. There's no way he understood everything I said in the first place. Plenty of it was formal speaking, which I know for a fact would be harder to listen to than read.' He sighed as his descendant came to a stop in front of him.

"Hey!" He greeted with a smile, feeling his pride start to swell, "I know I said I'd stare at you the whole time, but y'know, I figured about halfway through that it'd make you uncomfortable." The young hero beamed as he continued, "Ahh, seeing you out there with the Master Sword in front of you. I couldn't be prouder than seeing you get recognized."

"O-Oh." Link seemed almost taken aback by his words, "Thank you…very much. That was a lot kinder than I was expecting."

"Aw what?" He grabbed his hand and used it to shake his arm, "I'm your ancestor! Even then, I'm not technically easy to impress, so you should know that you're doing good." His hands went to his hips, "Anyways, you looked like you wanted to talk about something else. What's up?"

"Right," The champion nodded toward the group leaving together, "Let's head to the pavilion first."

Young Link snickered, "You sure you'll actually talk to me there?" He got nudged to the side by the knight's hip.

"Yes, I will, thank you."

...

They were the last to join the Princess, Impa, and the other champions. Zelda was talking with Mipha and Revali about the Sheikah slate, and Daruk and Urbosa had started a conversation right as they stepped under the shade.

To his slight dismay, he caught the Sheikah's eye as he followed the Hylian champion toward another part of the pavilion, 'Geez, I could tell she was hoping I'd look her way as well. This better not be something weird…' He put his focus on his descendant, "You were saying?"

Link grew serious as he seemed to search for anything that was off about him, "Are you okay? I looked over at one point and your eyes had completely rolled into the back of your head. Then it looked like you were muttering about something, but otherwise you didn't seem bothered by any of it." His voice was soft but concerned.

The young hero nodded, "I'm fine, but er…yeah that's weird. I thought I just zoned out for a moment."

Impa hopped in from where she stood, "Zoned out while speaking in the old tongue to yourself? Odd indeed."

This put the entire group's focus on him.

Urbosa nodded, "I'll admit, you did look a little possessed there, young one."

Mipha agreed, "Yes, I was worried about you. Are you sure you're okay?"

Revali rolled his eyes, "Just wait, he'll say it's some party trick he can do."

Daruk shrugged, "I mean he seems fine now. What's the big idea?"

His hands raised in defense as he took a step back, "Well then…I appreciate the concern. Otherwise, yes, I'm fine. Yes, I'm still me. No, I don't understand what the heck that was either. Again, it seemed to me like I zoned out. I don't remember talking to myself or anything like that." 'Damn you, Impa! I understand wanting to put the spotlight on me to pressure me into telling the truth, but that simply isn't going to happen!'

The Zora champion looked him up and down, "And none of that hurt you?"

He shook his head, "No, like I said, I feel completely fine. Content, even."

She turned to the rest of them, "I personally don't get the feeling that we should worry about it. That's my 'gut' feeling, as Hylians say." They all appeared to share the same opinion.

Revali put a hand on his hip, "Hm, well if it turns out that some evil spirit has possessed him, I'll make your death quite quick." His snooty gaze was met with a harsh, unimpressed face.

"Glad I could count on you, thanks." He sat up on the handrails, wondering if his descendant had anything else to say. If anything, the champion looked to be deep in his own thoughts. Meanwhile, the Hero was starting to question what the Goddess Hylia said earlier about his 'form.' 'She made it sound as if I could control how I looked…is that really true?' Trying to speculate further made his left hand begin to ache, "Ugh…ow." He muttered under his breath as he brought it up to look at it.

This made Link peer at his right hand before stepping aside to let Mipha through.

"Can I see?" She sweetly asked.

"Sure…" Young Link placed his left hand in hers, "It just decided to ache, I guess."

The Zora Princess closed her eyes, a blue glow started to emit from under her hand as she began to lower it toward his, "Hopefully this might help some."

He nodded, but he couldn't help his eyes starting to squint as it hovered nearer and nearer. 'Why is this bothering me?' He internally questioned, 'Sure, I know a few spells, but she's just trying to heal anything that could possibly be hurting my hand. I should feel grateful, not queasy.' Yet the feeling persisted.

"Interesting," Mipha spoke, "I suppose there's nothing wrong with—oh!" She pulled her hand away and shook it as if it had gotten close to a fire. "Pardon me, you were just very hot for a moment!"

His mind instantly thought of how the triforce would feel like it was burning into his hand, he also thought of his fire spell, but after flipping the appendage around, he certainly didn't see any flames, "Oh sorry!" He was internally happy that she didn't appear offended in some sort of way.

"Hm, now I'm curious. What did it feel like when I was trying to heal you?" A finger rose to her lip, "Most people say that it feels cooling. Like as if they stuck their hand out over a river."

Young Link's brows lifted at the comparison, "I didn't feel anything at all, actually."

She blinked in surprise, "N-Nothing? Really?"

"Really, I was expecting to feel something, but then you pulled your hand back." He scratched his head, "I guess it doesn't work on me." 'Which is concerning…I thought the Triforce stopped healing me.' Frowning, he drew his sword and quickly ran his right finger across the edge, drawing blood. He ignored their stunned reactions as he put the sword away and licked off the pooling crimson to get a better look. Keeping his expression plain, he was intrigued to see the skin pulling itself back together in a timely fashion. It was completely healed by the time the Zora champion pulled his hand to take a look.

Mipha gasped, "It's as if it never happened!" She showed the rest of them.

Urbosa was impressed, "I'm honestly not surprised. Of course a Hero can naturally heal."

Young Link quickly added another tidbit of information, "But if you're wondering if you can chop off my arm and it'll reattach itself, I don't think that's a thing. I'm pretty sure I'll still bleed out and die."

Daruk appeared to agree, "Glad to know that even you can't be reckless. I can only use my protection so much as well," He smiled.

Before they could continue the topic, Purah came sauntering toward the pavilion with her well-known smirk accompanying her. "Hi!" She loudly greeted as her shoes touched the marble, "If you don't know me, I'm Purah! Now, I'd like to discuss the possibility of gathering information about your abilities. Since the lab is only a hop and a skip over that-a-way, I was hoping we could set you up with a test and collect some readings."

No one seemed interested.

"You came here to ask us to work? What do we get out of it?" Revali asked.

She pulled a blank. Impa could be seen shaking her head as she looked for her words, "Um….experience? Fun? Results? Aiding the castle in stopping the Calamity?" She gestured to the young hero, "I mean, who doesn't want to see what his results are? Don't lie to yourselves! You know you wanna know!"

'She's not wrong, but what if those results end up in the hands of the Yiga? Wouldn't I just be more screwed than before?' "What if the Yiga obtain it? They already tore my legend out of a book." He crossed his legs, "I'd rather not feed them more information about me, thanks."

Purah quickly shook her head, "They what!?"

An audible slap came from him facepalming, "It's been gone this whole time! How did you not know that!? I thought the historian would have told you by now!"

Meanwhile the researcher just had the realization of a lifetime, "Dear Hylia! No wonder they want to kill you!"

Young Link managed to snag the sleeve of Link's tunic and pull him close enough to where he could plop his head down on his shoulder. "Yep…that's right," He mumbled from the fabric. His eyebrows lifted at hearing her chuckle.

"Well darn," Purah said with a knowing grin, "You easily gave everyone a reason not to do it." She sighed as she put her hands together, regaining her cheerfulness moments later, "Anyways! Is there a way that I could be of use before I go?"

"Actually yes," Mipha answered, looking back at Zelda, "We were discussing getting a picture of the group, if you don't mind."

"I'd love to!" She instructed the Princess and champions while Impa and Young Link stood off to the side.

"I'll be frank," her voice was straightforward, "I'd believe what you said earlier if it didn't look like your face got red in the middle of whatever was happening to you. It's just too strange of a combination to be convincing to me."

The Hero was taken aback, "R-Really? Dear Goddesses! That's…that's embarrassing to hear, I'll admit. To me, I heard the King speaking, and then everything became fuzzy, and then I could hear him and see again for the last ten minutes of his speech." He crossed his arms as he appeared to think about it more, "I really don't have an explanation for that."

She still didn't seem to believe him.

"How about this? If it ever happens to me again, and I recognize that it does, I'll let Purah and Robbie do some kind of study, and you can oversee it. We can all find out what's going on together."

Her weight shifted to her left, "Deal. I suppose it's just easy for me to think you know everything since you're a Hero," she sighed, "even though I have several memories where it appeared that you didn't know anything at all. I apologize."

"It's okay, I don't blame you." 'Buuut, now I know to close my eyes any time Hylia decides to suddenly drop by and talk to me. Which I hope isn't too often, even though she's a Goddess.' He thought back to her calling him one of her own, 'She must mean the Fierce Deity's mask. Maybe that's what she meant about my form too. Goodness, it feels like she makes sense when she's here, but then it seems like it's impossible when she's not.' His hand covered his mouth.

'…I still don't know how I feel about these kisses either. "The same warmth?" I'm fairly certain that I haven't kissed her. And then apparently, to her, they're just seen as signs of respect. Odd…but I feel like if I ask her, I won't expect nor like the response.'

"Click! Snap! Aw! This one turned out great!" Purah handed the slate back to the Princess, "I'll be off! Still, um, consider the testing though!"

Young Link joined Zelda, his eyes showing that they could both leave if she wanted.

She waved to the group, "We'll be off. I look forward to seeing you all at dinner tonight, should you choose to stay."

He purposefully put some distance between her as they remained within their sights. Once inside, he could tell that she felt relieved to leave them as well. He cleared his throat, "So, did I give you any luck? I know I said I only have so much, but sometimes it honestly doesn't work."

Zelda smiled, "Hm, it seems that it must have, considering whatever was going on with you, Hero. I'm most interested in why my tutor seemed…what? Afraid?" Her head tilted one way, "Well, then again, I suppose I would have been concerned as well. However, I did see nearly the same thing occur back at Rito Village, hence why I'm more assured that you're alright. Do you know what set it off? There aren't any Goddess statues in the Atrium that I'm aware of."

"I have no idea. It came out of nowhere." Which was the truth, "I just hope nothing else odd happens for the rest of the day. Right now, that's taking the cake for me." They continued to her quarters where they were served some of the most beautiful sandwiches he'd ever seen.

"It's ham on goat cheese from Mabe Village, with a honey-nut sauce," The chef explained, "Please enjoy." He bowed before leaving the room.

"Oh yeah," Young Link took one from the plate that sat between them, "I'm still not used to this status-stuff. One day it's 'Stay out of the way,' 'Don't let the kid stray off,' and 'Make sure he doesn't get too hurt.' And now it's Hero-this and Hero-that."

The Princess understood his point of view, "Yes, I see where you're coming from. I can relate, actually." Her eyes fell to her open palms.

"Believe me, it really annoys me whenever I hear someone talk about your powers. It's as if they haven't taken just a second to think about how you might feel." Despite the rather serious topic, the sandwiches were delicious.

"Father thinks that I simply haven't worked hard enough for them."

His eyes narrowed, 'This King! I swear!' "Do me a favor and don't listen to him. If he had the same destiny as you do, he wouldn't be talking." He smiled, "Besides, I remember that part of your family tree you showed me. All the Kings are married into the family, so, in the long run, you run the show, Princess."

Her expression brightened at hearing his words, "I…I suppose I never looked at it like that. Thank you."

They ate before eventually devolving into telling stories and laughing together. Young Link had taken off his shoes before he hopped onto her bed and hung off the bedpost, painting the scene as he described it, "There I was! I had bested the Fire Temple's traps and puzzles, and all there was left was to defeat the dragon from within the cavern! It's days of eating the Gorons would be over!"

Zelda giggled, "Don't leave me in suspense! What happened next?"

"I was just getting to that part!" He front-flipped off her bed and acted it out, "I went through the door and found myself on a rock that was surrounded by lava. Before I knew it, WHOOSH! Volvagia rushed out of the lava and nearly burnt the tip of my hat off! After he landed, I saw that a hard shell covered his face, but, unfortunately for him, all it took was smacking it with a hammer to send him flying back into the air. From above, he tried to burn me to a crisp by breathing fire at me. His anger caused the ground to shake and send boulders falling from the ceiling too."

The Princess was invested, "My goodness! Did he ever manage to get you?"

"A couple times, yeah," He nodded, "And yet, when he landed once more, I leaped into the air and dealt the final blow. Ironically, he attempted to flee but was consumed by fire not long after he took flight. His head dropped to the ground and turned into dust." Young Link smiled as his hands went to his hips, "After that, I stopped by the Sacred Realm and was glad to see Darunia safe and sound. Another sage had been awoken, but there were still several more to go. The End. For now, anyways."

She clapped as he took his seat, "That sounded incredible! Surely you've been told that you're a good storyteller!"

"Aw!" His smile widened, "Thanks! I tried my best, even though I don't know some of the words in this language."

"That's quite alright, I don't think it hindered the story at all." Zelda motioned to the window, "I just realized that it's been a while. Would you mind telling me the time?"

"Can do!" He strolled over to the one that was above her desk, "Looks like it's nearly three in the afternoon. Which reminds me."

"Yes?"

'I didn't expect her to ask.' "Oh, I just need to pick up something." Young Link started to pull his boots back on, "I'll see you at dinner! Is there anything I should know in advance?"

Zelda stood, "Just that it's formal, so you'll likely end up near me or the King."

"I'll be sure to keep it in mind, thanks." With that, he left her room and made his way to the castle blacksmith. 'So…are these guards staring at me because I'm a hero or because they could hear us in there? Whatever, not my problem.' He was met with several more gazes of varying nature as he walked around the castle grounds. It wasn't a stretch to say that he was happy to see the smith react normally to his presence.

"Hey there!" He called, waving a hand.

"I assume it's done?" The young hero asked as he placed his hands on the desk.

"You bet! I know I said that there won't be another next time, but I'll be damned if one of these spikes come loose! They should be in there pretty good." He reached behind the counter and pulled out the boomerang.

"Should I show you how it works? Believe me when I say I'm experienced." Young Link was beginning to wind up his arm when he heard the man laugh.

"Ha! Hell no!" He gestured for him to go off, "You take that thing elsewhere before you start throwing it around. Obviously, I don't need to tell you to not throw it around other people."

"I understand, thanks anyway!"

"You just keep my name out your mouth, ya hear!"

"Yep! Bye!" He ran off to the dirt arena he used to ride Grace around. He happily let her out to graze while he tried out his new weapon.

'Now then,' Young Link flipped it around in his hands, 'Normally you can catch it and throw it either way, but naturally I'm reduced to using one side.' Feeling cautious, he reared his hand back and let it fly out straight in front of him, intently watching the path it took. As it started to come back, he started to inherently feel like a ninja star had been thrown his way. His body wanted to dodge away, but his mind kept his arm outstretched to catch it.

Whpf!

"Phew! I was really starting to consider that this was a bad idea!" He laughed to himself. A grin appeared as he looked off with an ornery expression, 'Link would be admittedly disappointed in me if he saw what I did with his present…' He wound up his arm once more, 'It's a good thing he's not here then!'

Over the course of the next couple of hours, there were certainly some near misses and "oh shit" moments, but it was nothing that the young hero couldn't shake off and move on from. As he would say, "It's all a part of the learning experience."

"I'm also realizing that it would be best if I were completely by myself when I use this." He muttered as it flew back into his hand, "Not throwing it around people is one thing, not throwing it around in fear of hitting your teammates is another." Now he aimed at the trunk of a tree, slinging it forward with all his might. He grinned at the satisfying sound it made when it stuck right where he wanted it to. 'Dear Goddesses, the Yiga Clan is screwed if they ever catch me with this in hand.'

Seeing that it was about time to head back to the castle, he pat Grace's nose before he left and managed to plant a kiss on her muzzle for good measure. Her nickering in response and her attempts to lick him through the bars showed him that his affection came through, "Don't miss me too much, girl. I'll be back before you know it and we'll be on the road again."

His good mood remained with him as he went back inside and followed the crowd of people to the Dining Hall. In the midst of bodies, he recognized the Master Sword's sheath and tried to politely push his way to his descendant, taking his hand upon meeting him.

"Ah, it's you." His voice was hardly audible over all the talk that echoed in the halls, "You nearly startled me for a second."

"Haha! Sorry about that," He pulled at his new tunic, "By the way, I meant to say that I think the blue is really fitting! I like that it has the sword on it." His smile brightened upon his eyes catching his hair, "I'm glad that braid has held up too. Gotten any compliments yet?"

Link's attempt to hide his smirk was laughable, "I have actually. I've received far too many, in fact."

"Any from Mipha?"

"Yes," He hissed.

The Hero covered his laugh, "Sorry! You know I had to ask! Don't worry, I know you're both friends, but I've got to tease you about something." He looked back up at the champion's eyes at his hand getting squeezed.

"You won't be laughing for long when I have to find your nametag for you."

His eyes widened, "I suppose we're no longer at a draw then. You really got me there." He nudged him with a playful grin, "Don't talk back to your ancestors. I'll ground you from the sword."

Link was momentarily stunned as he had to use his other hand to conceal his smile. He shook his head, "We are speaking after this! You're not getting away with saying that!"

"We'll see about that!"

Their pretend squabbling ended once they stepped into the decorated hall. In place of the several long tables and benches was a grand and ornate, dark-wooden table. Around it sat chairs whose backs were regally tall and just as detailed. A long rug with the symbols of the Royal Family and Triforce adorned the center of the table, and off to either side of it were lavishly decorated plates and silverware.

Speaking of which, based on the dinnerware alone, it was obvious where the King and Princess were to be seated. The King's goblet at the head of the table was bejeweled beyond compare, and to the left of it was one that was smaller with sapphires and emeralds. Then, strangely, next to it was one that was slightly bigger with rubies. It wasn't clear who that was meant for.

Luckily, they both were able to squeeze by the others who were busy finding their seats at the lower end of the table. 'Geez, just how high up are either of us sitting!?' He thought, squinting his eyes at the folded papers that disclosed the seating chart. 'All I know is that one goblet is getting too close for comfort!'

"Here you are, this is your seat," Link instructed.

The red jeweled cup sat in front of him, "You sure?" He helplessly watched his descendant walk around to the other end of the table and sit across him and to his left.

He nodded, "Mhm."

Even then, the Hero reluctantly pulled out the chair and lowered himself into it. Without giving it much thought, he took the nametag to his left and tried to make out the incredibly loopy letters. The only thing that helped his recollection determine it was Zelda was briefly remembering how she wrote her name in a letter. Setting it back, he couldn't help but scrutinize between the two cups. 'This makes no sense…clearly the Princess should get the one I have.' Seeing as neither her nor the King were there yet, he simply switched them, hearing several gasps come from the lower end.

His descendant blinked at him, bringing his hand up to the side of his face to cover his mouth as he leaned forward, "What are you doing?" He fervently whispered.

"Simple, that should be Zelda's."

"But now you have hers!"

His expression was plain as he smiled, "Trust me, she won't care. Calm down."

A few minutes later, the champions all took their places with Impa sitting in front of him. Revali in particular had a hard time concealing his astonishment at seeing where the young hero was. He crossed his arms as Urbosa sat next to Young Link.

"Now just who did you bribe to sit by the Princess?" He scoffed, "Pertaining to that awkward display before the ceremony, I'm sure they plan to marry you off. Ugh."

"Oh…my Gods." The Hero of Time was expecting a number of things to come out of the Rito's mouth, but that wasn't one of them. "I couldn't disagree more, but because you insist on continuing to push my buttons, we could always, I dunno, settle this some other time? Let's be happy and eat."

"Do you really want me to take you up on that offer?" His pupils narrowed, "You're rather vertically challenged, no?"

"You clearly don't know anything about me. I love a good challenge." He looked him in the eyes, "So. Yes or no?"

Mipha tried to intervene but was interrupted by Revali's sassy reply, "Yes. But when I win, I want zero whining about how 'you're just a child' or some other foolish excuse."

"Done."

Right as the answer left him, their attention turned to the other set of doors that led inside. In walked Zelda and the King who donned stunning jewelry and crowns. The entire room oohed and ahhed at their entrance.

Young Link's eyes glittered as he watched her take a seat beside him. He immediately wanted to gush about how she looked, but her father in such close proximity made him contain the urge.

Moments after the King sat, he clapped his hands, and, on his command, several servers poured from the kitchen into the hall and began setting the table with food that looked to come from every region. Interestingly, everyone's glasses were filled with wine, including the young hero's.

The King's voice filled the room, "Because this is a formal event, it is custom that we thank the Goddess Hylia in prayer. I shall lead it."

He'd been looking to Link for cues when his descendant suddenly began to come in and out of focus. Not wanting to draw Impa's attention, he quickly closed his eyes and joined in bowing his head down.

'You're quite active today, Your Divinity. Might I request that we keep this conversation short?' Her voice was admittedly soothing to hear, though there was a hint of fatigue in it.

Of course, my sweet Hero.

'And um…while I very much appreciate your respect, it means a lot, let's not do that this time.' She giggled.

Oh? And why is that?

It felt as if a thumb was running over his cheek, 'Because I'm not beneath the consequences 'these humans' will give me! Surely you can see why I'd rather appeal to them?'

Hm…

No, I can't.

Young Link was appalled, 'Despite how you might see me, even if I don't agree, they definitely don't see me the same way!' The tip of his nose tingled at something resting against it.

You could always change that, Dear Hero.

'How?' Her playful laughter filled his head once more as his nose was gently pushed in. The feeling spread to his cheeks and eyebrows.

Oh darling, the way you play by asking me questions you know the answer to.

I quite like this game.

He bit his inner lip, 'I'm glad to hear it, but I really meant it, sweet Hylia.' He hoped that using some of her language might get his point across. On the other hand, she was still being lighthearted.

Prove it, Hero of Time, the Fiercest Deity of the Sacred Realm.

For a split second, his eyelids flew open, and he could see his glowing white eyes reflect off the metal of the goblet in front of him. In those moments, every hair stood up on his arm and he felt the same way he did when he briefly held the Master Sword, only it was amplified enough to make him tremble. It felt as if his own being couldn't contain himself.

He forced his eyes shut, releasing a silent sigh as the overwhelming sense of power went with it. However, with it came a new development.

'I can see you.' Young Link had to make himself keep his hands on the table or else he would have taken the Goddess's cheek into his palm like she did to him. He also could see that it was in fact her nose that was pressed against his. Granted, her face and being, in general, was quite larger than his. However, he was determined to keep a straight face for the sake of the dinner.

Her eyes turned toward the King.

It seems his prayer is coming to an end.

He could only blink as she rubbed her nose against his.

But I love how you're full of surprises, my sweet.

It's impressive how easily you contained your power just now.

Of course that's to be expected from one of my own.

Until we next meet, Dear Hero of Time.

"May Hylia bless us all!" Came the King's resounding voice. He was met with clapping and cheering that echoed throughout the room. "Let's eat!" A powerful encore of the previous reaction followed this.

It was almost too loud. Young Link turned his initial wince into a smile, though he couldn't help but cover one ear. Then, as he was able to catch the start of a conversation and be able to pinpoint exactly who it was, he realized what had happened. 'But…just to be sure. I'll check if it's still there…' Without trying to seem obvious, he reached back to his left hip for the mask.

It wasn't there.

Under other circumstances, he would have immediately down-spiraled into worry and despair over where it could have possibly gone or what could have happened to it. And yet, heightened senses such as sound and sight were exactly what he felt while wearing it in the previous universe. He could hear Urbosa shift slightly in her chair, and Daruk's lips squeeze together into a smile as the servers hauled in a ginormous slab of rock roast. The sight from his peripherals were crystal clear.

'She awakened this in me…' His mind felt at a loss for words as he was passed a spoon. He blinked, 'I need to focus on the now. I'll think about this later.' A grin appeared as he scooped the rice-based entrée onto his plate and then handed the utensil to Urbosa. He turned to Zelda, his eyes were on her crown, "I have to say this, but your crown is absolutely beautiful!"

She smiled, "And quite heavy! I'm glad I don't have to wear it very often. Could I entrust it to you if I take it off?"

The King laughed behind her, "Ah, Zelda, how wonderful it is to see your smile." He nodded to the Hero, "Also, you may hold her crown if she permits it."

His gaze flicked to Link, "I dunno, because then I'd want to see what it looks like on my descendant, y'know?" He could hear the champion's heart begin to beat faster, "Just for fun, of course. Perhaps it's safer with the Princess."

Zelda giggled at the idea, "No please, now I'm curious as well." She took it off and lightly handed it to him.

In the blink of an eye, Young Link was beside his descendant. After noticing that he'd caught all of the champions' attention and seeing the surprise on the Princess's face, he brought a hand to his chest, "Oh my goodness, sorry about that." His focus started to drift to the knight, "I…wasn't thinking, hmm…" He gestured for him to lower his head as he twisted the crown until it was facing the right direction, "There we go." He sang the jingle in his head.

"Mm, quite stylish, I'd say," Urbosa said as she sipped her drink. "I think it goes well with the braid." Mipha joyously nodded in agreement while the Princess's eyes had a small twinkle to them.

From where he stood, he could see Zelda's tutor in shock as well as the Head of Command and several captains, including Charlie. They didn't seem as humored as the Princess or King did. The young hero chuckled, "Alright, I can tell that Her Highness's head is getting cold from here, but you were an excellent model." After retrieving it, he made sure to walk back to his seat.

"I'm glad to see that you get along with my daughter," The King genuinely looked pleased, "She recently told me of her plans to see the Great Fairy and I was wondering if I could ask you to accompany her, seeing as you're already well acquainted."

"Sure!" His expression turned thoughtful as he faced her, 'We already discussed this earlier, but it doesn't hurt to ask again.' "Zelda, can I come with?" He watched her general character illuminate.

"Of course, young o—Hero. Sorry, my bad."

He waved it away, "You're fine! No worries!"

Young Link made sure to keep an eye out for how much food he was putting on his plate. He wanted to try it all, but his stomach simply wouldn't permit it. A couple of bites into the seafood dish, he grabbed the goblet and, at first, took a full swig of wine. 'Ack!' He swallowed it down, 'I forgot this wasn't water!' He expected the Gerudo champion to comment, but instead he saw the Princess's hand reach for it.

"Ah, you were given mine," Her cheeks appeared to warmly glow, "and I have my mother's. That's interesting." She set it back, "Not that I mind, of course. It feels quite nice to use hers without stealing a sip like I used to."

He could feel Link's stupefied gaze as he bobbed his head, 'THEY TRIED TO GIVE ME HER MOTHER'S!?' He felt relieved that he switched them as he took another swig. He would have felt awful if he didn't and then had learned that.

Throughout the feast, he tried to talk to Link but couldn't get him to do anything other than give confirmation with his head. It admittedly got on his nerves before he became swept up in whatever Daruk was talking about. Seemed like it had to do with rocks.

An hour and a half later, he started to feel the effects of the wine getting to him. However, he could certainly say that he was the last to experience this. Even Zelda, Link, the champions (minus Urbosa), and the other captains and guests were getting loose and laughing more. He yawned into his hand, muttering, "I should head to bed before I make a fool out of myself."

The King had had quite a few by then and looked more relaxed than he likely cared to admit, "You are dismissed. May sleep find you after you reach your room."

Young Link stood, "Goodnight." Losing the affinity to care, he let himself zip to the doorway. Most of his energy by that point was distilled into making sure he didn't stumble around as he more or less walked back. He'd collapsed into his mattress before, but if it were possible, he could have fell right through it. As his eyelids began to play a set match of Tug-a-War, his ears perked at hearing the door open. He could already tell by the footsteps that came from outside who it was, "Link. This isn't your room."

"Wh-…huh?" He closed the door behind him, "I was gonna ask you to take this brai—"

"Just come sleep. I'm too tired to be bothered with that right now." His arm flopped as he made the general motion for him to come over.

Link yawned, "Well, that is easier than going back to my room. Sure."

Soon he felt the bed frame shift. For now, the champion had plopped down at the end of his bed. Moments after, the young hero began to drift into a deep slumber.

Perhaps the Hylian champion had partaken a bit too much in the wine as well. This was amplified when he watched the Hero begin to stand and push out his chair, blinked, and then rubbed his eyes in shock as he watched him walk out the double doors. 'It seems he said it best, I should go before this gets any worse.' He raised his hand to excuse himself and bowed to the King and Princess.

'Alright,' He gained his bearings as he strolled through the halls, 'This isn't too bad after all I've drank...it could be worse.' Link caught his younger counterpart practically warping around the corner, '...maybe it is that bad. There's no way...' He wanted to make sure that Young Link made it back to his room to start with but catching his reflection in the window reminded him of the last time he tried to undo the braid on the side of his head. Maybe he simply had it in for so long and his scalp had grown tender, but it really hurt! 'I bet he wouldn't mind undoing it before he goes to bed.'

And thus he continued to follow the young hero back to his room. Soon enough he stumbled across his door. He was greeted with a slew of tired sounding Old Hylian. He squinted his eyes, "Wh-...huh?" Link pulled the door shut, "I was gonna ask you to take this brai—"

Now he sounded a little irritated, "Oost amé ormeer. Im fateeré tro detre boskaiyé vith ca rees-gah."

His fuzzy mind drew a blank on that meant or what it could imply until the Hero lazily gestured for him to come sleep. 'To be fair, his arm flopping over could be anything…but I think he just closed his eyes.' He yawned with a stretch, "Well, that is easier than going back to my room. Sure."

Maybe it was just that morning, or maybe the little guy jumps around on the mattress, but he was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the Hero's bed was. 'Well,' He thought, 'I don't like how it shifts every time I get on it, but slightly worn in beds are certainly far superior. They're not so stiff!' He left his boots next to the chest at the foot of the mattress before plopping down and curling up.

The champion quietly sighed in comfort, 'I'm definitely waiting for him to fall asleep and then moving up again. He might be frustrated with me, but in the end he won't care enough to bite me for it.' His eyes closed, 'Maybe I should watch how much I push my luck...'
