"I'm sorry, Luci." Amenadiel finally said after a few awkward minutes.
"For what." Lucifer replied, confused, as he was still not looking at the angel. He was the one who yelled at his brother. He should've been the one to say sorry, but he couldn't bring himself to say the words.
"Luci… you just went through torture, and it looked like you were doing good until I brought the subject back up. I knew what you went through, and I still brought it up."
"P-please leave. I can't." And with that, his brother flew up to the sky, disappearing into the stormy clouds.
Then the devil went back to walking through Hell's halls, making sure the demons were doing their assigned jobs.
That is when he saw something, it was a living thing, which confused him. So he went to it, because being the devil he was, he had to make sure Hell stayed under control.
He walked about five feet before he realized what it was.
"Chloe?!" He whispered, alarmed with her presence. He hadn't seen her for a while, which in his case, was a relief. That is when Chloe noticed him, and began to walk to him. She wasn't very far, so it only took seconds for her to get to him.
"Lucifer." She began to say, closing in the gap between them, and when she was inches away, Lucifer took a couple steps back.
"I am so sorry. I was scared, but not anymore. I got advice from the wrong person, and I am truly sorry." She finished off, while Lucifer was looking her in the eyes.
"No you're not." He said. He knew when she was lying. He still saw fear in her eyes. But that brought him to the question.
"How did you get here, and why…? WHY are you here… in Hell?"
"I-I might've died."
"BLOODY HELL! I ASK ONE QUESTION, AND YOU CAN'T EVEN ANSWER THAT WITHOUT LYING! I.." He said after calming down a bit. "I went through torture, Chloe, and you just stood there, without even suggesting the thought of helping me. I.." He said, but couldn't seem to speak any further. His eyes began to water, and his throat suddenly felt dry.
He tried to keep it together, but he kept seeing both his killer and his lover, standing awkwardly in front of him. He still had some weird love hidden in him for her, and he knew it was there the second Chloe was there, now standing speechless.
"I didn't think yo-"
"Exactly, you didn't THINK! You didn't think of how I FELT. YOU CONTINUED TO LIE TO ME, MAKING ME THINK YOU ACCEPTED ME!" His devil face was among his human face. He was mad at himself, and at Chloe, and at the situation in general. At that point he didn't care what Chloe thought. He finally brought his hands together, asking for Amenadiel's aid, and in just seconds, Amenadiel was there, standing between the both of him.
It took him a couple of seconds till he realized what was happening.
"Brother, bring her back to Earth. She isn't dead, and I don't know how she got here, p-please." He said, with his devil face, and a couple of left over tears running down his face.
The devil's brother decided not to make things escalate by talking so, he just gripped on to Chloe's arm, leaving the devil stressed, looking at the ground.
The devil felt he should move, flying up to his throne, and then when he sat down, he just sat there. Blocking Hell out of his mind, thinking of everything that he was trying to avoid thinking of.
First he thought to think of the feelings he had for Chloe.
He loved her and still loved her, but he also hated her for the fact that she killed him. Now he didn't know how to feel. His feelings were to hard to understand, so he was planning to think about that topic later.
Next, he thought about his choice of choosing Hell over Earth. He was friends with Ella and Linda, and then he just left them. But what would've happened if he had stayed and Ella found out. She was all about God, so what would she think of Lucifer if she found out he wasn't a method actor, practicing for a role.
She was very gleeful, and what if she did find out Lucifer's truth, it would be to much for her. Would she act like Chloe? Chloe had been a detective, someone who helped people, and ended up the one who killed him. So what would Ella do or think of him?
He's already lost a lover, he didn't plan to lose anyone else, but now that he thought of it, he already had lost them. He left them on his own accord without even noticing that he now had nobody. What did that say about him? Did it say that he was cautious, or just a horrible friend? He didn't mean to be. Maybe he should've said good-bye, or maybe he should go up there and visit them. What if they were mad at him, for leaving without any warning whatsoever.
And he's been rude to everyone, helping him or not. They're trying to help him with the situations he had just been through, and as a 'thank you' he yells at them. This wasn't right, nothing was right, none of this is okay.
"WHY?! If dear old Dad didn't want this to happen, he wouldn't have. He would've gone and stopped it… but then I wouldn't have known she was trying to end my life." He suddenly realized.
He didn't want to quite admit it, but maybe his Father….. Maybe his Father was just trying to help. But it brought him pain, and she could've finally accepted him for who he truly was. She could've seen God, and realized he was just as much as an angel, as we was the devil. Perhaps, if God pretended to care about him in front of her, she could've realized how he wasn't devil everyone made him out to be.
He looked up, looking at Hell. This was too much for him. He tried to discover how he felt about everything, and it left him with a dead end. It got him nowhere, and the next time he would think about those dead-end feelings is with the doctor.
If one of his demons saw him like this, pathetic and soft, they would take that to their advantage. He really didn't need even more problems on his plate.
I mean, a week in Hell didn't just casually control his demons. It always took him awhile for him to control them, but this time was different. They wouldn't listen to words, so he had to use action.
A couple days ago, he had pinned a demon down and now the other demons can torture him on extra time he would sometimes give them, and a couple days later, he had tears streaming down his face and he was begging for forgiveness, until Lucifer finally ended his life with one of the Hell-forged knives. He let the others take a break and watch, showing what he would do if they broke his rules. This miscreant decided to possess a human's body after death fell among it, and tortured a handful of humans before getting dragged back to Hell.
"Linda, please consider it. Lucifer is breaking, and he promised himself not to come back to Earth." Amenadiel had been talking to Linda, asking her if instead of Lucifer having to go to Earth, she went to Hell instead. She hadn't answered quickly or at all, she was considering it. Lucifer was her patient after all, and he went through the worst of the worst. He has been going through the worst.
Lucifer got kicked out of Heaven, and stayed in Hell for way too long. And when he thinks he has found real love, he ended up finding his death. She had to watch Maze's vision to fully understand his pain. She saw some random priest-type-guy, and Chloe doing what seemed to be a ceremony/ritual thing against him.
She wasn't expecting it to be that bad, because when Amenadiel described his behavior, she thought it was half as bad as the real thing. Which meant that he was bottling up his emotions or hiding behind his mental wall, and either was bad. She had to help him as both a therapist and friend.
"Okay." She said, suddenly pulled away for her thoughts. "Could you fly me down there. No need to wait."
So the angel picked her up carefully, making sure she was secure in his arms, and then flew downward toward Hell.
Linda didn't know what she was expecting, but what she saw was horrible. Storm clouds surrounded them, and once they hit the ground, she saw doors everywhere. Now her objective was to find Lucifer and help him.
"Lucifer." She whispered. They finally found him. He looked horrible, but seemed to be happy once he noticed them.
"Doctor! To what do I owe this pleasure?" He asked.
"Lucifer!" She said, getting his attention. "We need to talk about..." She decided it was good not to mention it. He could probably guess why, anyway.
His demeanor changed. He had wanted to talk to Dr. Martin, but now he seemed disappointed. He was able to forget what happened just enough to do his job right, and then got blasted with emotions he promised to keep deep in his mind until he could talk to Linda, but he didn't expect for Linda to just show up. He didn't know how to respond with anything. He also didn't want to end up yelling at her, like he had with Gabriel, and Amenadiel, and... well.
Linda walked up to him, and he showed her one of the places where they would have privacy. They got there after a couple of minutes, of him showing her the way.
"So how do you feel about everything?" She said as they sat down.
"I... I still love her. Why do I love her? WHY?" He said a little louder.
"Well maybe you still love her, because you remember her as you've always remembered her. Maybe you miss the happy times that you had her, that you think it makes up for the thing that she did to you. And from what I can tell, you somehow blame yourself for what happened before Maze had come to help you. You somehow ended up in your hell loop and that date you had with her, was your hell loop, so you felt guilty for what happened with you and her."
"How did you know?"
"Maze used a tool used in Heaven to project what she remembered so we knew she wasn't lying... I'm sorry Lucifer."
"You didn't do anything, you shouldn't be the one saying sorry. It's really my fault if you think about it."
"Why do you think that?" Linda asked.
"I let my walls down, and ended up dead. I fell in love with her, and used my feelings to trust her word when she said that she was perfectly fine. I should've seen the signs that told me she wasn't fine." He said. "I just wanted her to accept me so much that I believed her words." He said, a little quieter and softer.
That is when he noticed his breathing became more complicated and thinner, and he felt A LOT warmer than it usually was in Hell. He went to walk around a bit, to get his breathing to normal, but it didn't work, he just fell against the wall that was close behind him. He looked at the Doctor, confused, but he couldn't talk.
Linda was focusing on what was happening until she realized. He was having a panic attack, with what he remembered back on Earth.
"Lucifer, focus on what is happening, right now. We're here, you're here in this room with me. It will pass, I promise. I promise." She repeated looking at him reassuringly enough that he believed it. He was looking at her eyes, and found out that she wasn't lying. It took him a couple of long seconds to relax a bit. He was able to breathe enough to ask, "Can... can we do this tomorrow."
Linda just smiled and said "Of course." Before walking out on him, with his thoughts. He couldn't stand them, so he hid them again. In the back of his mind that he tried to avoid bringing attention to. He mostly hides them because they hurt him mentally, and he waits them out until it doesn't hurt him to access them. For example: His fall. His fall hurt him, knowing he was the odd one out. Knowing that he would be stuck there with demons. Knowing the role he played in it all, and right now, it didn't hurt as much to access.
He sat down, exhausted, with his elbows balancing on his knees, as he leaned forward.
The place he hid those memories is going to overflow, and he'd experience them all at once. He totally forgot about them when he was with Chloe. He had replaced those thoughts with the happy ones he reveled in, but now he wasn't sure what to even think of those anymore.
