Chapter Nineteen
It has been a few days since Grom. Things still haven't settled down as certain students and teachers would still go after Danielle. And just like these past few days, Eda has been flying Danielle to Hexside personally to deter any attacks. Looking up ahead, Danielle sees that Hexside is festive again, this time for the start of grudgby season.
"Grudgby season, eh," said Danielle, looking at the banner. "It's not baseball but maybe I'll like it."
"Ah, grudgby season is the best," said Eda, looking at Danielle. "You know, I used to play, back in my gory days."
"Don'cha mean glory days," said Danielle, looking at Eda.
"Well, that too," said Eda, looking at Danielle. "I was unstoppable on the field. I had the best moves and the best cheats."
"Cheating is not a good thing," said Danielle, looking at Eda. "If you had gotten caught, your team could have lost, or worse you could have been benched for the rest of the season for such an act."
"Ugh. What do humans know, with your goody-goody attitude?" said Eda, looking at Danielle. "If "cheaters never prosper", why was I the star player?"
"Hard to reason with crazy," said Danielle, before pulling King out of her cowl. "Bye King, you little cutie."
Heading to class, Danielle dodges spells left and right that were thrown her way. Seeing Willow and Gus, Danielle runs up to them before heading to history class. After having sitting down and listening to the history teacher for a while, Danielle feels the glares of the other students in the class.
"Don't let them get to you. I can persevere, I can handle it," thought Danielle, trying to ignore the glares.
"Still have that bruise on your forehead, huh," said Gus, noticing the bruise.
"I'll let it heal as naturally as possible," said Danielle, looking towards the front of the class. "I don't want to rely on magic all the time."
"Over 50 years ago, Emperor Belos appointed a head witch to each coven," said the History Teacher, talking to the class. "The council headquarters was built and paid for by...? Anyone? Willow?"
"Close call," thought Danielle, thinking she was about to be called on.
"Uh, the Pixie Dust Taxes?" replied Willow, standing up.
"Whoo, yeah!" said an Oracle Student, from the hallway. "Go, Willow!"
"Impressive, Miss Park," said the History Teacher, magically closing the door as he looks at Willow.
"I don't understand," said Danielle, seeing Willow sit back down. "I would have thought anyone that mingled with me would have been ousted and such."
"I thought it would to but since I patched thing up with Amity, they may have thought not to mess with someone associated with a Blight," said Willow, looking at Danielle. "Her mom is…"
"Like walking on thin ice," said Danielle, looking at Willow.
"Something like that," said Willow, looking at Danielle. "But I have also been feeling more confident. I guess it shows."
"Hey," said Danielle, seeing Willow's hairclip float towards Boscha.
"Aw, Willow thinks she's popular now," said Boscha, grabbing the hair clip. "How cute."
"That doesn't belong to you," said Danielle, her eyes gaining a light purplish pink glow. "Give it back."
"It's weird that Amity hangs out with you now. Ever since Grom, she's gone soft. But don't worry," said Boscha, putting the hair clip in her hair. "I'm still here to show you who's boss."
"Here, Willow," said Gus, taking the hair clip out of Boscha's hair and giving it to Willow.
"Oh-ho-ho! The friends wanna get in on this too, huh?" said Boscha, magicking Willow's bag in the air and dumping the contents on Danielle, Willow, and Gus before laughing.
"Is that laughter? Hey, hey!" said the History Teacher, looking their way. "Learning's not supposed to be fun!"
"I assure you, we're having zero fun," said Danielle, looking at the History Teacher as she takes a book off her head. "Boscha is being a bully as usual."
"My apologies, sir. I was practicing my aim for grudgby," said Boscha, tossing an eraser at Willow.
"Boscha, how could you throw things at them..." said the History Teacher, before magicking a bull's eye on Danielle. "When you can just do it to the human."
"What now?" said Danielle, looking at the bull's eye on herself. "Great, just great."
"Uh… thanks…" said Boscha, before throwing gum in Willow's hair. "But I have more than one target."
"Oh!" said Willow, groaning as she touches the gum in her hair.
"Don't worry, let's just dodge her as best we can," said Danielle, assuring Willow.
But as much as they dodged, Boscha was constantly on their tail throughout the school day. Magicking graffiti on their faces. Covering them in garbage and such.
"I can't believe she followed us all day," said Danielle, tossing a banana peel on her head in a nearby trashcan.
"I'm really sorry I pulled you guys into this," said Willow, pulling toilet paper off herself. "We should have just kept a low profile. Boscha could get away with murder if she wanted to."
"What's this? Boscha got away with murder?" said Principal Bump, walking down the steps. "I can't say I approve, but at least she's trying new things."
"What are you talking about?" asked Danielle, looking at Willow. "How is…"
"It's not what just happened at Grom," replied Willow, looking at Danielle. "I don't think Boscha likes that I've gone from Half a Witch to being popular and all."
"That is so not right… hmm, maybe Amity could help," said Danielle, seeing Amity nearby. "I'll be right back."
"Oh, Danielle," said Amity, seeing Danielle walk over. "How's your injuries?"
"They're healing," replied Danielle, looking at Amity. "You're still friends in a way with Boscha, right?"
"Yeah, somewhat," replied Amity, looking at Danielle.
"Anyway, can you help us with her?" asked Danielle, looking at Amity. "She's really picking on Willow a lot right now."
"Yeah, this time of year, she's extra unbearable, what with her being the "Star Captain of the Grudgby Team"," said Amity, looking at Danielle. "The hard part is, there's no reasoning with Boscha. She only speaks in grudgby terms."
"This may be harder than I thought," said Danielle, before hearing Willow scream and running over. "Willow! Are you okay? Let me guess…"
"Boscha," said Willow, covered in trash.
"Hey, Willow! I just thought all trash should stay in one spot," said Boscha, before screaming when a bunch of vines, courtesy of the plant glyph, came through the window and pulled her out. "Hey, what do you think you're doing? Let go!"
"I've had it up to here with your bullying," said Danielle, as she walks back into the school and down the halls.
"Do you know who you're dealing with?" shouted Boscha, gaining a teacher's attention. "Where are you even taking me?"
"What the…" said Principal Bump, seeing Danielle walk in with a tangled Boscha. "What's going on?"
"Boscha's bullying has gotten out of hand, that's what," replied Danielle, looking at Principal Bump. "Now I now things are different here, but isn't there any preventions to stop bullying? There is only so much I can tolerate, or any one for that matter before flipping and attacking said bully."
"Well, we do have those School Guards that sniff out trouble," said Principal Bump, staring at Danielle. "I have been slowly trying to get rid of Faust's regime when he was still principal of Hexside. But some parts are still so ingrained that it has been nearly impossible to get rid of."
"There has got to be something," said Danielle, looking at Principal Bump. "What about benching her from grudgby for a while?"
"You will not do such a thing," shouted the Potion Teacher, glaring at Danielle as she enters the principal's office. "Hieronymus, do something about this human. She's hurting our star player. Not only that but is trying to set her ways here."
"Boscha's bullying is getting out of hand," said Danielle, looking at the Potion Teacher. "Plus, she's still bothering me with getting me to be her girlfriend. That's sexual harassment. I feel no attraction to her whatsoever."
"Nonsense, it builds character," said the Potion Teacher, glaring at Danielle. "Also, Boscha, how could you? Wanting a human as a lover?"
"What," said Boscha, looking away. "She's easy on the eyes… real easy."
"Are you kidding me?" said Danielle, looking at the Potion Teacher. "I have seen news reports and other programs back home where the bullying got so bad, that the person commits suicide if not kills their bully."
"What?" thought Boscha, hearing what Danielle. "I don't want to die yet. I still have yet to play professional grudgby."
"Maybe it's time to really look into this," said Principal Bump, looking between Danielle and the Potion Teacher.
"Really?" asked Danielle, looking at Principal Bump.
"You can't be serious Hieronymus," said the Potion Teacher, staring at Principal Bump. "This human…"
"Makes a valid point," said Principal Bump, staring at the Potion Teacher. "I don't want to lose any students in such a way or have their parent's barge in demanding something be done."
"But-but…" said the Potion Teacher, before growling at Danielle. "Just you wait human. Your days are numbered here."
"Uh… Principal Bump," said Danielle, seeing the Potion Teacher leave. "I… uh… may have to leave school early today."
"I have no problem with that," said Principal Bump, looking at Danielle then Boscha. "As for you, Boscha, I'll be benching you from grudgby for a while to reflect on your actions."
"But Principal Bump, I have to lead my team to victory," said Boscha, looking at Principal Bump. "If I'm not there leading them, who will?"
"Skara will be taking your place till then," replied Principal Bump, looking at Boscha. "She's quite the strategist from what I've seen. Now off, the both of you."
"There, you're free," said Danielle, releasing Boscha after leaving the principal's office.
"You've only made the situation worse for yourself," said Boscha, walking away.
"I kinda figured that," said Danielle, walking away as well.
Walking down the hall towards Oracle class, Danielle didn't foresee what was to come. Feeling a blow to the back of her head, Danielle falls to the ground unconscious before being dragged away, her necklace left behind on the floor. By the time lunch rolled around, Willow, Amity and Gus got worried.
"Where could she be?" asked Willow, looking around the cafeteria. "Danielle never misses lunch."
"I don't know," said Gus, looking around as well.
"Well, maybe she's running a little late," said Amity, looking at Willow and Gus. "Let's go find her."
"Where are they going?" asked Boscha, seeing the three leave the cafeteria before following them.
"If I remember correctly, Danielle has Oracle class before lunch," said Amity, running down the hall.
"What did I just step on?" asked Gus, lifting his foot to see Danielle's necklace.
"It's Danielle's necklace," replied Willow, picking up the necklace. "Danielle never takes it off unless she showers. It's too precious to her."
"Something must have happened," said Amity, before hearing a gasp and looking around the corner. "Boscha… what are you doing here?"
"I think I may know who took her," replied Boscha, looking at Amity.
"Who… who took her?" asked Willow, grabbing Boscha.
"Our Potion Teacher," replied Boscha, staring at Willow. "But I have no idea where she would have taken Danielle."
"Well, we have to find her," said Gus, looking at everyone. "Or Eda will wreak havoc."
"You're right," said Amity, before looking at Boscha. "And you're going to help."
Searching around Hexside, Willow and Boscha search one floor while Amity and Gus search another. As for Danielle, she had just regained consciousness. Looking around, she sees that she's bound and gagged, hanging above a cauldron of some kind of boiling potion.
"This is what you get for infiltrating our realm and school," said the Potion Teacher, gaining Danielle's attention.
"This isn't good," thought Danielle, trying to reach for any glyphs in her pockets only to find none. "What the?"
"Looking for these," said the Potion Teacher, holding Danielle's glyphs. "Can't do anything without these. You're just a powerless human now."
"No-no-no," thought Danielle, seeing her glyphs before being lowered towards the boiling potion. "No, it can't end like this! Mom! Dad! Help!"
"One less human out there," said the Potion Teacher, before a vine grabbed the glyphs out of her hand. "What the?"
"Danielle!" shouted Amity, conjuring an abomination to attack the Potion Teacher. "We're here! Don't worry, we'll get you out of there!"
"Oh, my Titan," said Boscha, recognizing the boiling potion. "I thought that potion was forgotten to time."
"You recognize it?" asked Gus, looking at Boscha.
"Well, yeah but…" said Boscha, looking at the cauldron. "It needs fangs from a greater basilisk and they're extinct."
"One attacked the school on Danielle's first day," said Gus, looking at Boscha than the cauldron. "Where were you when it happened?"
"Th-the girl's bathroom," replied Boscha, slightly blushing. "Create an illusion already. Hey, where did… oh."
"I got you Danielle," said Gus, grabbing the rope and trying to pull Danielle close to him. "For the love of the Titan, how much do you weigh?"
"… … …" said Danielle, her eyebrow twitching.
"Gus, hurry," said Willow, fighting the Potion Teacher alongside Amity.
"I'm trying," said Gus, the rope still lowering Danielle. "The rope is enchanted."
"Mmmm," shouted Danielle, feeling the steam from the boiling potion before her eyes started to glow a light purplish pink.
"Pull harder," said Boscha, running over and grabbing the rope as well.
Feeling a weird type of energy coursing through her, Danielle blasts her binds off. The cauldron spills over as everyone within the vicinity are blasted away. Landing on the ground, Danielle removes her gag. Panting and glaring at the Potion Teacher, Danielle sends a stream of multiple stars at her. Hitting against the outer wall of Hexside, the Potion Teacher falls to the ground, in marionette form. Stumbling around a bit, Danielle's eyes go back to normal but a little bit of her hair goes silvery white. Coughing, Danielle stumbles to the ground.
"Danielle!" shouted Willow, running over to Danielle and bending down. "Are you okay?"
"I will-I will be," said Danielle, panting as she coughs more into her hands.
"What happened out here?" asked Principal Bump, walking their way before seeing the Potion Teacher. "Oh my."
"I feel like my body is exploding on the inside," said Danielle, before seeing blood on her hand. "Huh… what the?"
"Is human blood suppose to look like that?" asked Gus, seeing that Danielle's blood was a little more dark blue with sparkles.
"No," replied Danielle, looking at her blood before thinking. "What's happening? Why is my blood…"
"Here," said Willow, holding out the necklace. "Thought you might want this back."
"My necklace," said Danielle, gently taking the necklace and putting it back on.
"I think it's time to get you back to the Owl House," said Amity, helping Danielle up alongside Willow.
"Boscha," said Danielle, looking at Boscha. "What are you…"
"Look, I just didn't want you bullied by any one but me," said Boscha, looking away before looking at Danielle. "But I guess I can see what you were trying to say back there in Principal Bump's office. So, I'm-I'm-I'm so-so-so-sor-sorry, okay."
"Thank you Boscha," said Danielle, looking at Boscha than everyone else. "Thanks, guys, for the save back there."
"I think you kinda saved yourself," said Willow, looking at Danielle. "What glyph did you set off. Or was it an entirely new glyph?"
"I didn't have any glyphs," replied Danielle, looking at everyone. "The Potion Teacher had a hold of all of my glyphs."
"What?" said Boscha, shocked and confused as everyone else. "Then how did you use magic? You clearly used it without even a spell circle."
"I don't know Boscha," said Danielle, before looking at the sky. "I really don't know."
Elsewhere, somewhere out in the universe, someone was peering in on Danielle. Holding a large sphere, a cloaked being watches Danielle and the others walk her back to the Owl House.
"My little star, my how you've grown," said the Cloaked Being, staring at the image of Danielle. "But it looks like my bloodline is beginning to override your body. I wanted you to live a normal mortal life but it seems like it won't be. Oh, how I was to be there to help you… and Jacob as well."
