The next day, the group are currently walking down Route 6. Now that the Eds, Sarah, and Jimmy have completed all the trials on Akala Island, they are following Maxiley who is leading them the way to Diglett Tunnel which they have to go through to get to the Ruins of Life where the Grand Trial is taking place.
Right now, Edd is facing a girl trainer in a Pokemon battle.
"Tauros, go!" said the trainer, throwing the pokeball and releasing a Tauros.
"Magneton, please assist!" said Edd as he throws Magneton's pokeball, releasing it.
"Tauros, use Horn Attack!" said Tauros' trainer. The Tauros charges at Magneton and rams its horn into it, barely doing any damage.
"Magneton, please use Spark!" said Edd. Magneton's body becomes coated in electricity, and it charges at the Tauros, ramming into it. The Tauros suddenly starts to twitch as static electricity covers its body.
"Tauros is paralyzed, Double-D!" said Ed.
"Now would be a good time to use Electro Ball. Magneton, if you'd please." said Edd. Magneton gathers electricity and forms it into a ball, then launches it at the Tauros, hitting it, and knocking it out.
"Tauros!" said Tauros' trainer.
"Fortunately, paralysis greatly reduces the speed of the Pokemon inflicted with it, which makes Electro Ball more effective." said Edd. Both trainers return their Pokemon to their pokeballs.
"Good battle." said Tauros' trainer. "I should've expected that would've been the outcome, considering I was facing one of the Eds." The trainer then hands Edd pokedollars, then starts walking away.
"Good work, sockhead." said Eddy. As he looks at the pokedollars in Edd's hand, he sees something written on one of them. "What's that on that pokedollar?" Edd looks at it and sees a phone number written on it.
"I...think she gave me her phone number." said Edd. He looks over at the trainer and sees her winking at him, making him blush.
"Anyway, let's get going." said Eddy. They all continue walking down Route 6 until they arrived at Heahea City.
"It seems just like yesterday we were here." said Edd.
"So, where's Diglett Tunnel, Maxiley?" asked Sarah. Maxiley points down a road, heading west.
"If we go down this road, we should see it to our left." replied Maxiley.
As they go down the road, they see a large building with a satellite dish near it.
"Boy; I wonder how many channels that could pick up?" asked Eddy, pointing at the satellite dish. He looks at Edd to see him staring at something, blushing. Eddy looks to see Lillie and Cosmog.
"Lillie." whispered Edd.
"Go, Cosmog! Use...use Splash!" said Lillie. Cosmog looks at Lillie with a confused look on its face.
"Heh... I was just acting like Double-D." said Lillie. She then walks over to Nebby. "You always seemed to end up getting hurt, Nebby. Seeing that pained me just as much as if I was the one being hurt. But if I can be as strong as the Eds are... then maybe things can be different." Nebby looks towards the Eds and starts floating towards them, making Lillie look to see them as well.
"Hi, Lillie." said Edd with a blush.
"Oh, hi, everyone." said Lillie. "It feels like it's been a while since we last met."
"Yes, it has." said Edd. He then looks at the building behind her. "What is this place?"
"This is the Alola Dimensional Research Lab." said Lillie.
"Dimensional research?" asked Edd with interest.
"Yes. In fact, Professor Kukui is inside, and he wants to talk to you and your friends." said Lillie.
"Well, we shouldn't keep him waiting, and I'm quite interested in what this laboratory is like." said Edd.
"Okay, then." said Lillie as she grabs Edd's hand, making him blush, and starts leading him inside, with the others following after them. They enter a lobby and head over to an elevator. They go in, and Lillie pushes a button to the third floor.
"So how are you all doing in your trials?" asked Lillie.
"We're doing quite well." said Edd.
"Yeah, we completed all three trials here." said Eddy.
"It was so fun!" said Ed.
"I'm glad to hear you're all doing well." said Lillie. They soon reach the third floor and exit the elevator. Edd's eyes lit up with delight as he marveled at all the books, computers, and on-wall screens that were there.
"Rapture." said Edd as he gets a close look at everything. They soon see Professor Kukui who was waving towards a woman with tan skin, white hair with a green headband wrapped around it, wearing a gray tank top, a black skirt with blue trim, over black leggings, and black and green sandals.
"Hey there, honey!" Professor Kukui says to the woman, who turns to look at him.
"Oh, hi!" said the woman who walks over to him. Professor Kukui turns to see the Eds' group standing there.
"Alola, everyone!" said Professor Kukui.
"Alola, Professor Kukui." said Edd. He looks over at the woman Professor Kukui was talking to. "Who is this?"
"This here's Professor Burnet; she runs the Dimensional Research Lab." said Professor Kukui. "And she's also my wife." The woman now identified as Professor Burnet walks to the group.
"Lillie has told me so much about the Eds, especially Double D." said Professor Burnet, making Edd blush. Professor Burnet looks at Lillie. "Three months ago, I found Lillie lying on a beach." A look of concern appeared on Edd's face. "Cosmog was also unconscious in Lillie's bag."
"I brought the Eds here because I wanted you to tell them about some of the mysterious phenomena here in Alola." said Professor Kukui.
"Mysterious phenomena?" asked Edd.
"Yes; the Ultra Wormhole." said Professor Burnet.
"Ultra Wormhole?" asked Edd.
"Yes; they're rare, but sometimes a hole opens in the sky over Alola." said Professor Burnet. "It appears to be a rift that leads to an unknown dimension."
"Intriguing." said Edd.
"People think there may be a mysterious dimension is because of the legends of fearsome Pokemon appearing from the Ultra Wormhole." said Professor Burnet.
"Fearsome Pokemon?" replied Jimmy, nervously.
"It is very weak as proof, but it cannot be ignored. There is already plenty of evidence in the pokedex for the existance of different dimensions, correct?" said Professor Burnet. "But even normal wild Pokemon attack people, correct?"
"I guess." said Eddy, remember the flock of Starlies that tried to attack him, Ed, and Edd on the day they arrived at Sinnoh.
"But the Pokemon that appeared from the Ultra Wormhole went way beyond that." said Professor Burnet. "They were called Ultra Beasts and they were feared."
"They sound scary." said Sarah, worriedly. Maxiley puts a comforting hand on her shoulder, helping her relax.
"It was believed the guardian deitites fought desperately against them." said Professor Burnet. "But they're most likely folktales, so it's hard to know how much is true. But I would be so happy if I could somehow unravel the mysteries of the Ultra Wormhole by studying the dimensional disturbances."
"It would be so fascinating." said Edd.
"We've recorded several relationships between Pokemon and different dimensions in books." said Professor Burnet. "You can find them in the books here in the lab." An excited look appeared on Edd's face, and he runs to a bookshelf and grabs a book; he immediately begins reading it. "Seems like your friend's already interested."
"Double D is really into scientific stuff." said Eddy. Professor Burnet then walks off to another part of the lab to continue her work. Professor Kukui looks at Maxiley.
"Is this a new friend of yours?" asked Professor Kukui.
"This is Maxiley." said Eddy. "We met at Royal Avenue."
"It's nice to meet you, sir." said Maxiley.
"Nice to meet you too." said Professor Kukui. "Why are you with the Eds?"
"They're helping me get stronger as a Pokemon trainer." said Maxiley. "One day I hope to end the undefeated streak of the Masked Royal."
"That sounds like quite the lofty goal there." said Professor Kukui. "From what I heard, he's quite formidable."
"I know." said Maxiley. "That's why I'm training super hard so I can beat him one day." After they chat for a while, the group then exit the lab, with Edd being reluctant to do so.
"So, off to Diglett Tunnel then?" asked Edd.
"You bet, sockhead." said Eddy.
"Ooh, look at that star!" said Ed as he points at the sky. Everyone else looks and to their surprise, they see the sky opening up a bit.
"That's not a star, Ed!" said Edd.
"What is that?" asked Eddy. But just as soon as he asked it, the opening disappears.
"What was that?" asked Sarah.
"I don't know." said Edd. "But I think our trip just got a bit more interesting."
