Authoress Note: Welcome to Chapter 7 of The Winter Soldier and the Luna Wolf. I want to thank those who have left reviews for this story. It truly means a lot to me that you guys are enjoying it. I hope that in future chapters you all will continue to enjoy it. I know the path that I have planned out. I have until Chapter 26 all planned out and all is for Captain America the First Avenger. It's much more than what I wanted to write, but things happen. There will be no chapters for The Wolverine after I thought it over some and there will also be no chapters dealing with the series Agent Carter either. I hope that you guys enjoy this next chapter. Without further ado Chapter 7. ENJOY!
Chapter 7
Violet moved around the lab making sure that everything was in order. She was helping whichever doctors she could with what needed to be done. She knew that this experiment was something that they needed to try and do. She turned her head to see Steve coming into the room. She saw him looking around the room, seeing the rebirth device and the observation booth. Her lips quirked a little bit. She could tell that he was rather surprised by how many people had been running around doing their work and seeing how many people it would take to make Erskine's vision a reality.
Violet's ears picked up on the noise above her in the observation booth. She let out a scoff as she moved next to the Doctor like she was supposed to.
Dr. Erksine helped Steve into the device. "Comfortable?"
Steve looked up at the Doctor. "You save me any of that schnapps?"
Dr. Erskine winced knowing that he hadn't saved much of the schnapps. "Not as much as I should have." He nodded his head to Violet and the attendants who began to hook him up to the machine. He turned his attention to a man dressed finely in a suit. "How are your levels, Mr. Stark?"
The man stepped out from the device.
Steve blinked in surprise. He wasn't expecting Howard Stark to be there.
"Coils are at peak, levels are 100%. We may dim half the lights in Brooklyn, but we're ready. As we'll ever be."
"I was you at the Expo. Did you ever get that Cadillac in the air?" Steve questioned eyeing him warily.
"Had her flying three full minutes."
"Then what happened?"
"We landed. Technically." Howard patted Steve on the shoulder not reassuring him.
Doctor Erskine looked at both Violet and Peggy. "Agent Carter, Agent Howlett wouldn't you both be more comfortable in the booth?"
Peggy got the hint and smiled at Steve which caused him to smile back.
Both women headed up to the booth.
Violet stood as Peggy took a seat watching the scene below.
Dr. Erskine pulled down an overhead microphone looking to the booth and waiting for Phillips to stand near the speaker. He then tapped on the mic hard.
Phillips winced holding his head.
"Ladies and gentlemen, this morning we do not take another step toward annihilation. Today, we take the first step on the path to peace."
Violet's eyes landed on Senator Brandt seeing that he looked rather skeptical of what was going on.
"We will begin with a series of micro-injections to the subject's major muscle groups. The serum will cause immediate cellular change. In order to prevent uncontrolled growth, the subject will then be saturated with Vita Rays."
Violet watched with her brows furrowed as a nurse injected Steve in the arm. Her ears could pick up that Steve thought that it was actually the serum that he had gotten and he was wrong. It was just a tetanus shot.
Erskine and the nurse took six blue vials into the injector. He then nodded his head to a tech who deployed the pads. "Beginning serum infusion in five, four, three, two...one." He then pressed the switch.
Violet watched with her lips pursed together. She could only hope that this experiment will work out in the end. She still had a sinking feeling inside her chest. But she couldn't quite put her finger on what could be causing such a sinking feeling inside of her. And she always known that it was something not to ignore.
"Now, Mr. Stark."
Howard pulled a lever and the table slowly tilted upright.
Violet bit her lip softly her canines pressing against the soft tissue.
"Steven, can you hear me?"
"Is it too late to go to the bathroom?"
Violet tried not to laugh at what was being said. Of course Steve had to be nervous.
"We shall proceed."
Violet watched nervously gripping her hands at her sides. She was hoping that this would end up going well and not harming the young man that they had stuck into the machine. She could hear the EKG machine shrieking knowing that his heart was going erratic. Suddenly she could hear Steve screaming from inside the machine.
Dr. Erskine moved quickly to the window of the machine. He couldn't see in but he had to make sure that Steve was alright. "Steven? STEVEN?"
Peggy rushed out of the booth with Violet right on her heels. "Shut it down!"
Violet brought her hand up to shield her eyes from the lights getting brighter in the room.
"MR. STARK, KILL THE REACTORS!"
"No… Don't… I can do this."
Violet put her hand on Peggy's arm as Erskine nodded his head to Stark.
Howard turned the dial to the final percent which was 100.
A whine could be heard through the air as the chamber went to orange then white and went dark. The whine died out as did the EKG machine.
Dr. Erskine's face went ashen. Had he killed the poor boy?
The EKG started once again and the lights rose.
Dr. Erskine rushed to the device. "Mr. Stark!"
Howard hit a button allowing the hood and panels to retract releasing a blast of steam.
Violet's eyes went wide as she watched the technicians undo the straps to only have the young man fall into the Doctor's arms causing him to stagger.
"Steven?"
"Doctor? Did it...?" Steve's voice came out fairly softly.
Violet moved towards Dr. Erskine to help him.
"I think...yes…"
Howard helped Violet and the Doctor steady Steve on his feet. "You did it, Doctor. You really did it."
Peggy brought over Steve's clothes to him. "How do you feel?"
Steve put his shirt on that was much smaller than before. He groggily looked down at her. "Taller…"
Violet heard a clicking of a lighter her brows furrowing together.
Dr. Erskine turned to face the person that flicked his lighter open. "Please, do not smoke in here." He saw the man with glasses and remembered the man. "No…"
The man pushed the button and there was a loud boom sending fire and glass down into the lab.
Violet's eyes went wide as she moved quickly to help the doctor noticing that the man was making his way toward the serum.
The man drew a pistol shooting Dr. Erskine and hitting Violet in the shoulder causing her to snarl as she grabbed Dr. Erskine to lower him to the ground.
"NO!" Steve yelled.
Her eyes widened as she smelled Steve coming close to her as the man escaped. She carefully put Erskine's head onto her lap.
"Doc!" Steve kneeled next to him.
Erskine stared through his broken glasses. Taking the last bit of his energy, smiling weakly proud of how Steve became his best creation. He reached out and tapped Steve's chest before his hand fell down.
Steve stared for a moment before looking up, his eyes darkening in rage before getting up and moving fast.
Howard rushed over to Violet. "Agent Howlett…" He helped carefully move Dr. Erskine from her lap and helped her up to her feet. "You need to have your wound looked at."
Violet moved her shoulder and the bullet that was embedded in her shoulder popped out.
Howard looked at her with wide eyes noticing that there wasn't any blood coming from her shoulder. "What…"
"I'm fine," Violet said moving her shoulder as if she hadn't been shot. She looked at him. "I know you've seen a bit of my file and know that a bullet wound won't hurt me."
"But…"
"Mr. Stark. I can't explain it to you. I don't know what this is." She pointed out shaking her head lightly.
