Chapter 14
Violet came into Howard's lab seeing the mess that was inside the room. Her brows pinched together in confusion. "What on Earth…" She looked down seeing Howard getting up to his feet. "What happened?"
Howard looked over at her, wiping his hands on his pants. "Just a minor incident," Howard said, giving her a cheeky smile.
"A minor incident? Looks like something exploded in here." Violet said her brow rising before shaking her head lightly. "Agent Carter went to go and gather Captain Rogers for you."
"I thought that you were the one that was to get him?" Howard questioned, raising his brow and looking over at the brunette woman.
Violet shrugged her shoulders. "Honestly Howard, I don't know what is going through her mind. I think she likes him more than she's letting on." Her brows pinched together as she heard Peggy scolding Steve about not knowing a thing about women. She let out a breath shaking her head before turning her attention to Howard. "You will have to explain what fondue is to him."
Howard looked at her with his brows pinched together. "What?"
"Captain Rogers doesn't know what fondue is." She said moving towards the door opened it allowing Steve to come into the room.
Steve came into the lab.
Howard came over to Steve. "Fondue huh? Fondue Is just cheese and bread, my friend."
Steve looked up at Howard, blushing, staining his cheeks in downright embarrassment.
"And it looks to me like she thinks you've got a lot more going for you than that," Howard said, leading Steve and Violet down the lab.
Steve blinked seeing new futuristic machines being revealed and workers working hard on trying to make sure that the glass was replaced. "Really, I didn't think…"
"Nor should you, pal. The minute you think you know what's in a woman's head is the minute your goose is well and truly cooked."
Violet cleared her throat giving Howard a look.
Howard cleared his throat before looking at Steve once again before coming to a stop at high-tech fabrics. "Me, I concentrate on work. Which at the moment is making sure you and your men don't get killed." He unrolled a metallic weave. "Carbon polymer. Ought to hold its own against your average German bayonet. Of course, Hydra's not likely to come at you with a pocket knife…" He turned his attention to the battered shield on the worktable. "I hear you're sort of attached."
Steve ran his fingers across a bullet hole. "It's handier than you might think."
"So's the hotel chambermaid, but I wouldn't take her into battle." Howard pulled up a cart with several shields some were complete others weren't. "I took the liberty of coming up with a few options." He picked one up with a smile. "This one's fun. It's fitted with transistorized relays."
Violet watched curiously as Steve pulled out a plain round shield from the lower shelf.
He spun it between his palms, testing it out. He pinged it and it sounded like a bell. "What about this one?"
"Oh, that's just a prototype. Now this one…"
"What's it made of?"
Violet let out a soft giggle knowing that Steve had found the shield that he wanted.
"Vibranium. Stronger than steel and a third of the weight." Howard explained his brow raising slightly, noticing how Steve was enjoying the shield.
Violet could only hope in her mind that the shield was exactly as Howard had explained. They didn't need to treat wounds on the field in gunfire.
"It's completely vibration absorbent. Should make a bullet feel like a cotton ball."
Violet heard the footsteps of heels and turned her head.
"How come it's not a standard issue?" Steve asked curiously.
"It's the rarest metal on earth. You're holding all we've got."
Violet nibbled her lip knowing Peggy was upset with Steve for what he said. Honestly, she would have dug her claws into the person who disrespected her and disemboweled them without a second thought.
"Are you about finished, Mr. Stark? I'm sure the Captain has some unfinished business." Peggy said rather, cooly.
Steve smiled, holding up the shield. "What do you think?"
Violet moved quickly as she saw the look on Peggy's face. Her face is close to Howard's ear. "Duck." She said forcing him down along with herself. She heard the gunfire and the bullets flattening against the shield before falling to the ground.
"I think it works." She said before stalking out of the room.
The two men watched her go and Violet shook her head before moving to follow Peggy.
"Peggy," Violet called out catching up to her.
Peggy turned her attention to Violet.
"I know you are mad at him, I don't blame you."
Peggy let out a breath shaking her head. "He still doesn't know a bloody thing about women."
"Of course not."
"You know?"
Violet nodded her head. "Yes. He wasn't having an easy time talking to me. He wanted me to join their team."
"And you're willing to go in?"
Violet let out a breath. "I do not mind. I want to help where I can. He even talked to Colonel Phillips about my file. That's the reason why he wanted me to join."
Peggy let out a soft breath. "You're not worried about death?"
Violet shook her head. "No, I'm not." Violet put her hand on Peggy's shoulder. "I'll explain why later." She said before she walked away, her heels clicking on the floor. She knew that Peggy would start questioning soon why she wasn't afraid. But she knew that she was doing the right thing.

This is the end of Chapter 14. I'm kinda glad that I was able to finish this chapter. It took me a while to finish this chapter since I'm still in a cast. I hope that you guys enjoyed this chapter. Please leave a review and let me know what you think of this chapter. Hopefully, I will be back to my normal schedule of updating weekly. I'm going to be getting my cast off on Tuesday and will be in a splint-type brace to keep support on my wrist while it finishes healing. I'm about halfway through my healing process for my right wrist. Until next time.
